What is it: little book, big animals. —— Why 4 stars: I love whales. This little book is all about whales. What else is there to say?
Ok, a little else—this is an extremely fact-dense prose-spare book, so it’s great for informational value but would risk being a dry reading experience. However, that dryness is mitigated by it being structured in microsections, each subtopic getting a few paragraphs and a couple illustrations before *flip* onto the next page and its next subtopic. That enables covering a lot of ground rather than getting bogged down, keeps the focus of the facts on the most interesting details rather than comprehensive surveys, and allows breaking up the reading into convenient bits of time. —— You might also like:Blue Whales: Return of the Giants (my review here).
