They all apply to this beautiful book, too! Absolutely stunning tattoos, they look like 3 D and the colors are gorgeous; there are some accompanying excerpts from Japanese history and culture, too.
The meanings of the tattoos; what kind of person would wear it; and the surrounding controversy- you are either proud of your tattoos if you are Japanese, or you hide them, or, somehow, BOTH!
And the relationship between the artist and the recipient of the tattoo?? Is that of an intimate friendship, the art planning and executing usually taking years.
A fascinating read !

As a lover and wearer of symbolic tattoo art, I am overwhelmed with the magnified beauty of the Irezumi art, knowing the meaning behind many of the traditional symbols and pairings.
I am in the process of getting a large tattoo to tell the story of my life's journey and am fully clear and inspired in my next body art concept.

Really nice book with some great history of Japanese tattooing through the ages, interesting facts, reinforced through some excellent photographs of tattoos. The meanings behind some of the tattoos I found utterly fascinating. Highly recommended for anyone interested in tattoos or Japanese history and culture.

Wow, Tokyo Ink is the best book I’ve ever seen on tattooing. It not only gives a thorough history and the meaning behind the symbolism, but the imagery is absolutely stunning. I’m going to buy a hard copy— as a fan of Ink Master, and art in general, how could I not?

Vibrant and stunning!
This book captured the history and meaning of specific tattoo motifs clearly and concisely. The photographs were gorgeous! I highly recommend viewing this on a color display like an iPad or Kindle fire. Viewing in an epaper display would not do the images justice.

Artistic culture of japanese tattoos
This book gave me an interesting insight about japanese tattoos and what certain designs represent. There wasn't much to dislike about this book. It does what it says on the package. I particularly liked the meaning behind the the Koi Fish swimming up stream and the Snake and the Sword.
