Sister Where Are You

Rate this book
FBI Special Agent Patterson Blake has accepted that the disappearance of her sister Julie sixteen years ago will never be solved. Until shocking new evidence comes to light that makes her question everything she thought she knew.

When the grisly dumping ground of a twisted serial killer is discovered, it looks like she may have found her sister's final resting spot. This sadistic murderer has been taking girls for decades and leaving them chained up, alone and terrified, to die a slow and gruesome death. Was her sister a victim of this deranged psychopath?

Now another woman has been taken, and time is running out to save her.

In her quest to find the killer and discover the truth about her sister, the young FBI agent will soon discover that the past is a dangerous place, and those who dwell within are still out there, waiting for new prey.

And in Patterson Blake, they might just have found it...

A taut, edge-of-your-seat psychological crime thriller with a twist you won’t see coming.

If you’re a fan of Jeffery Deaver, Greg Iles, or Thomas Harris, you will love Patterson Blake.

Excellent

The prologue almost scared me away from this book. It shows the unknown killer chaining their victim in an old abandoned car and leaving her to die. It was vile and scary and there was already another dead body in the car. I can't think of anything worse. So the heroine is looking for her sister that has been missing for 16 years. She is now an FBI agent with some time on her hands so she takes a personal trip to find out what happened. During this she becomes a victim herself. I kind of saw where it was going but it was still very good. The ending was very intriguing. Can't wait to read the next one.

I found this book to be intriguing and well paced until Patterson Blake suddenly seemed to forget to pay attention to her surroundings/instincts, and turned into a victim herself. I get that she ventured off "on her own" from the start, but she did initially have allies helping her to discover what happened to her sister. I found it even more annoying that the character basically admits she shouldn't have been so stupid. 3/4 or so through the book, I would have rated this 4 stars, but the book as a whole was 3 stars for me because I had a difficult time grasping that a trained FBI agent would be so careless when she knew a killer was still on the loose. I had intended to read the rest of the series, but am now hesitant to do so based on the stupidity of the main character.

Engaging enough but if I had realized the whole series would be about Patterson searching for her sister, I wouldn't have started it. I will complete the next book since I already own it but don't plan on continuing the series.

Boring, Predictable and Tedious

This book started so good and then it all went down hill from there. ***SPOILERS AHEAD***

The entire reason to start the book is to find out about a missing sister but this case has nothing to do with the sister. The bad guy is obvious from the first second. There are entire chapters where the main character does nothing but check into a hotel and eat. Maybe 30 pages of this entire book contain any action. I really want to know what happened to the sister but I don’t think I can force myself to read another trash pile like this.

A well written mystery thriller with plenty of action. Patterson is a likeable, sometimes aggressive character who finds herself in sticky situations due to her determination to find out what happened to her sister. Plenty of action from start to finish. A good read, well recommended.

I was given a complimentary copy as an ARC reader and my review is voluntary.

Won this kindle book through Goodreads. Not the worst story, but doubtful I will continue with the series. I'm definitely on opposite end of the spectrum with my rating, but I didn't find the story engaging or suspenseful. I appreciate a story that is more believable.

I get that this is fiction so things are not going to be "real" but this is outlandishly far fetched and I do not care enough to read the other 5 books in the series just to see who killed her sister. Boo.

Boring

I thought it was boring. I kept expecting something different to happen and it didn't. I think I like books that are more suspenceful.

This book promised to be a "A taut, edge-of-your-seat psychological crime thriller with a twist you won’t see coming", however I found it to be none of these things.

Don't get me wrong, the opening two chapters were fantastic. The first one set the scene from the killer's point of view, showcasing the exact horrors that this individual was capable of. The next gave us some insight into Agent Blake's personal trauma at having lost her sister sixteen years ago and not having any closure or even answers as to what happened to her. In fact, she messes up so badly that she is put on leave. Leave that she decides to use to try and figure out what happened to her sister all those years ago.

What follows however, was an absolute mess of a story. To begin with Patterson is such an unlikable character that I found it very hard to care about her or what happened to her. To begin with, she is dating her direct supervisor (which I would have thought would be heavily frowned upon in the FBI but whatever), and when she isn't using him and their relationship to gain favors, she is angry with him and/or arguing with him because he won't against the rules and potentially lose his own job to help her. When she gets to Oklahoma City, she checks into the same seedy hotel as the one her sister once stayed in. And immediately starts harassing the manager for the registration card from her sister's stay all those years ago. When he keeps putting her off (and why wouldn't he), she first wishes she could arrest him simply for being a jerk. Then later, she pulls out her FBI credentials (after promising she would lay low and NOT do that exact thing) in an effort to force his cooperation. Finally (and by this point I was starting to have more sympathy for the hotel manager than her), he gives her the information she requested, only to have her request even more, essentially forcing him to go outside to the dumpster and retrieve it (when she could have easily done that herself if she wanted it that bad).

Her being an absolute nightmare of a character isn't her only flaw however. You see, dear Patterson also seems to think that she knows better than everyone else consistently putting down other law enforcement agencies (even if its only in her own mind) and believing that they didn't a good enough job investigating this crime or that crime. Either they didn't ask the right questions, or they didn't push, or they just "did nothing".

It got old. Fast.

Maybe not as fast as constantly reading about her going back to her hovel of a rented room, or her eating takeout, or washing her face and cleaning her teeth. There were literally so many examples of this that could have been deleted altogether and the book would have lost nothing except the word count.

The plot as a whole was...... meh at best. It had its moments, but on the whole was overshadowed by inconsistences and plot holes. At one point they think they have a suspect due to trail cameras, but those same cameras don't show the actual dump site being approached, yet they still send FIVE people to a man's home to bring him in for questioning? Someone who may or may not have a direct link to one of the victims is allowed to be looped in on what's going on? And then later given clearance to continue to investigate her own sister's disappearance? Come on.

And while the Julie's disappearance was interesting, I'm not sure I want to continue on for another six books before finally finding out what happened to her. But never say never, I may find myself in a reading slump at some point and find myself picking up another book in this series just to see if Patterson grows as a character or not.

This mystery/thriller was so good. Patterson Blake, an FBI agent, just can't let go of discovering what happened to her sister who's been MIA for 16 years. It's started to affect her job and her life in general. She just can't let go until she finds out what really happened to Julie. At one point she's given to "go ahead" by the FBI and has support so she sets out to find out. The way she does this is by following in her sister's footsteps as best as possible. She unfortunately finds her way to a serial killer and lands herself in a very precarious situation; however, she's not the only one. She keeps discovering things that indicate her sister is most likely dead but then finds other things that bring her hope that there's a chance Julie is alive. But if so, where is she?

It got so intense towards the end that I was truly sitting on the edge of my seat (metaphorically). I was so scared for Patterson and all that she was going through, plus she was in the situation that prompted her necessity to help a hostage.

I was so ready to find out what happened to Julie and then Patterson got something that I thought was going to lead her to the answers she was looking for, but the suddenly it ended in a huge cliffhanger. In fact, at that point I thought I'd missed something and had to go back and reread it but nope...it was a major cliffhanger so I need book 2 NOW. Literally!

This is a series of books about FBI Special Agent Peterson Blake. This is the 1st. Sixteen years ago, her sister, Julie, went on a cross country trip with her best friend. When they found themselves in Oklahoma, someone robbed their room of their clothes and money. Julies' friend decided to go back home, but Julie wanted to continue on this trip of a lifetime, so she went on own way.

That's the last that anyone heard from Julie. Now, Peterson is an FBI Agent and with the latest case she has been assigned to desk duty, but she decides to take some vacation time and find out what might have happened to Julie all those years ago.

When she arrives at the last motel that Julie was out before she disappeared, Peterson finds herself involved in an ongoing case that the local FBI are investigating. Bodies have been found of women that have died in a kidnapping. Was Julie one of them? Will Patterson finally find out the truth about where her sister is and if she is still alive or dead.

A.M. Strong is fast becoming a favorite author for me. This is the second book in the Patterson Blake series. In this book, Patterson gets herself in hot water with her SAC and is forced to take some time off. With nothing to keep her mind off her sister that went missing 16 years ago, she decides to do some unofficial investigating and ends up in Oklahoma City, where he sister was last seen. But Patterson finds more than she bargains for. In this edge of your seat thriller, Blake comes in contact with a psychopath that has been killing young women for more than two decades.
I LOVED this book! I had to keep myself from skimming ahead to find out what was going to happen! Patterson Blake's character is great...who doesn't like a kickass female FBI agent?! Lots more answers to questions about her sister's disappearance and some great new characters we meet along the way. One of the better thrillers I've read this year! I highly recommend you check out this series!

Sister Where Are You? - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

FBI Special Agent Patterson Blake is the MC in Sonia Sargeant and A.M. Strong's chiller-thriller mystery, Sister Where Are You?
While investigating a serial-killer case, novice Agent Patterson is also on the hunt for her sister, Julie, missing for more than a decade and a half. Police thought she didn't want to be found...her right as an adult.
Yet Patterson fears her sister may be one of the victims in her current investigation...is she right? The only way to find out, seems to be to put herself in deadly danger. Does that work?

Recommended to fans of Dean Koontz, Willow Rose and David Leadbeater.

Alchemist

Patterson Blake is a young FBI Special Agent attached to the New York field office. Her older sister has been missing for sixteen years. Since Patterson has been put on desk duty anyway, she decides it's time for her to find out what happened to her sister Julie sixteen years ago. Have you ever noticed how police officers and FBI agents get themselves caught by the bad guys by not paying attention and reading the signs that we the readers can read so easily? Maybe we should be the agents. I do want to say that I am so pleased that writers now use good proof readers. Mistakes are almost a thing of the past. Yea!!

“Sister Where Are You” is Book 1 in the Patterson Blake FBI mystery/thriller book series. Special Agent Patterson Blake is an agent with the NY FBI office. Her sister went missing 16 years earlier. This book takes us on her journey to try to find her sister.

I found this story to be fast-paced and needed to make sure I put it down so that I could accomplish other things in my day.

While I highly recommend, readers should be aware that this is a series in which all answers will not be resolved in one book.

Thank you to West Street Publishing and the author for providing through a Goodreads giveaway. The above comments are my own opinion.

I won this in a Good Reads giveaway

This one had me clutching my pearls almost right away. The problem I'm finding with such a climax happening almost right away, the rest of the story tends to plateau and lose its spark a bit. While the story wasn't as suspenseful as I had hoped, it did keep me engaged and wanting to find out what happened to her sister. Well, surprise surprise, this is a series and she doesn't find her sister- just a clue giving her a new place to look (and more than likely a new killer to catch). I am curious to what happened to Julie, so I may just skip to the last book and see what happens

I downloaded this series because I liked another book by these authors. The other book was better. But one thing I’ve realized in the two books I’ve read so far is that the pivotal scene interacting with the bad guy falls short. That was the case in both books. Here’s why: all critical info is relayed via dialogue with the bad guy(s). So the critical scene ends up feeling more like a chat in a coffee shop instead of the nail-biting, intense scene it’s supposed to. Also one other thing that fell a bit short in this book was too many descriptions of what the main character was eating. Granted it’s not as bad as some others I’ve read, but it did make it a bit draggy at times. Otherwise, it was a fun, engaging read. And I do plan to finish this series.

The explosive sadistic suspense just blows you away.

Slow slide for first half of the eBook. But when the author wanted the reader engaged, WOW,... couldn't read fast enough. At one point I thought it was over. However, all along I also thought the sociopath was the killer. Your memory keeps your imagination captured spiralling you in hard and twisted. This was a fast and furious read. The characters were caring & had each others back. My mind just about exploded; bah, booom! PottsvillePA_SUN; 05132023. Thank you A. M. Strong for your creative professionalism at it's best.

The first outing of FBI Special Agent Patterson Blake is a great suspense thriller, with just a slight hint of horror. It is a nice good paced story- not too slow, not too fast. The clues are are all there you just have to follow them. The villains in this are truly twisted and terrifying, which makes Patterson an even better heroine.
I would definitely suggest this to fans of Alex Kava's Maggie O'Dell and Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme novels.

An absolute Masterpiece Of A Thriller! From the first page to the last I simply could not put down this book! Patterson Blake is a fascinating character who evolves along with the plot, which is very well thought out, suspenseful & thrilling as well as humorous and shocking, and at times literally had me on the edge of my seat! All I can say is at this time of the year being close to Christmas is "Please Sir can I have some more?" 5****

I loved it. Patterson Blake is an FBI agent who is forced to take time off. She decides to use this time to find out what happened to her sister 16 years ago. What she finds had me turning the pages to learn if she finds answers. This story had believable characters with flaws and enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. I would recommend it to mystery fans. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Lost

An FBI agent takes leave to solve the mystery of her sister's disappearance sixteen years before. With her boss and boyfriend's support she tracks the sister's steps and attracts some unwanted attention.

Not especially believable but a decent mystery. Obviously the old adage "don't s**t where you eat" doesn't apply to the FBI.Similarly her quasi private, quasi official status was clumsy and incredible. The killer part was good. Not a bad read.

Great twisty thriller

Excellent thriller for those that love lots of twists and turns. Patterson Blake, a smart, blonde FBI female agent is haunted by the loss of her sister Julie 16 years earlier and seeks to find her. Patterson must show how strong she is while dealing with this aftermath that has destroyed her family, dating the boss, politics on the job, and dangers in the line of duty. The first in the series will leave you wanting more.

Wow!

This book was actually a Goodreads Giveaway! I'm so glad that I was chosen to read it! Even though it is not a stand-alone book, I can't wait to dive into the rest of the Patterson Blake series.
Patterson Blake is an FBI agent, determined to find out what happened to her sister sixteen years ago. As she embarks on her journey, without any help from her peers in the FBI, she finds herself in some dangerous and nearly fatal predicaments.
