The Commitment Chronicles: The Power of Staying Together

Rate this book
Relationship expert Dr. Cheryl McClary has created a unique book that combines her own story and the lessons of twenty years as a women's health expert, wife, personal advisor, professor, attorney, country music songwriter and judge. The Commitment Chronicles, unlike many books, says committed relationships are possible - and anyone can make a marriage work. "Too many of these books," says Dr. McClary are filled with you go, cheerleader tricks to be all you can be without actually telling you how. To have a truly successful relationship, you have to find Real Love for yourself and that takes hard work.

I know this woman. SHE IS A LIAR and DIVORCED. Cheryl McClary is a worthless drug addict and neglectful mother. Her book is full of embellished lies about how good of a mother/wife she is. She is a narcissist and a hypocrite, who puts her own "needs" and desires above those of her children and their future. She is willing to humiliate anyone who has wronged her, such as her son and her husband countless times. Both of her children have experienced immense amounts of trauma due to their drugged out mother falling down stairs, passing out at the wheel and informing them at any time she is proved wrong that their father never wanted them. She is full of hate and is now a divorcee relying solely on her husband's alamony simply because she cannot be bothered to get a job for herself for she is too far gone in her addiction. She is addicted to painkillers, valium and alcohol, for which she has attained multiple illegal prescriptions. She has wasted millions of her ex-husbands dollars on rehab that she has been kicked out of and continues to lie and deny anything remotely bad about her.

If this book has helped others, Im glad, but keep in mind that she is selfish and sexist and her book is nothing but lies. She is DIVORCED because her advice flawed. Please, do not listen to this woman's advice, for Im certain it will create future issues in your relationships as it has for her.

I bought this book in 2005, and threw it in a cupboard after slowly s-l-o-w-l-y managing to read halfway through. It seemed abstract, too chatty, and the points being made were not clear, nor reiterated in point form for easy reference, which one would appreciate in a self-help tome such as this. Having finally finished it now, 2007, I feel that I have to re-read it, and perhaps pencil in the margins or write summaries or something, as the original problems with its content still prevail. The message is good, but the "how to" bits are lacking. I will have to re-read this one later on.

I picked up this book to see what it was all about after a friend had mentioned it to me and figured "What the hey I need a easy read". It is ehh if my marriage was suffering this would not be a book I would pick up on my own or even mention to another. The author gets off course and I find my self skimming paragraphs at a time..
