Ok, I am going to start this off by saying that book 2 was a lot better than book 1.

The story does unfold and the pace of the book does pick up. However, some things bug me a lot like characters saying things like "yes my love" (might not have said that exact phrase) but any phrases like that just make me cringe and put me off a character. In my world you just do not go from being a strong sexy man and leading lady to spouting cringe worthy phrases because you have feelings.

The thing that really bothered me was Craig got shot in the cheek and had half his face bandaged up and it even smashed a molar. Yet other than the description in the chart there was no mention of it in the story. Most people would freak out if there faces had suffered that, would there be scarring etc. In addition anyone who has had a tooth out, let alone someone that got shot in the face would not be kissing like a made person within a few days -it would hurt a lot.

All that aside, I think the book was again a good idea and developed a lot more in this one. The plot gets more twists and turns which is always great even though some were just a bit predictable. There is a happy side to and a great message within these books and I did find them an easy read. I would have however preferred more depth to the dark side and the corruption to be detailed a lot more to take the focus away from the romance side. Do not give up, you have left lots of ties that need tying off. Keep going with book 3. x

This story ties up the loose ends we were left with in book one. I really loved book one; I’m not sure if it was because it was an audiobook, but book two left a lot to be desired.

First there was amnesia, a long lost sister, a kidnapping, oh and let’s add in cancer. Good lord! On top of all of that there was only one romantic scene and that was just “meh”. I was starting to wonder why I loved book one so much. Let’s not get me started on Craig, who I am beginning to think is the worst FBI agent ever, especially with how many times Norman gets the drop on him.

Book two ties up Emma and Craig’s story, so I am sure the other books must be about new couples, and uncovering the rest of the corruption in West Harbor. Alas I don’t really care to read more....Sara

Emma find her twin sister Vivian. They already feel a bond to each other and became best friends quickly.

Jerry helps Emma out of a sticky situation and Norman plans to kidnap Emma and flee the arrest coming his way.

Emma and Vivian figure out a plan to save themselves from Norman's clutches while Craig and Hawk are on Norman's heels.

There is a lot of action in Book #2 and it still continues.

This is a fast paced book! I loved it. I loved how the character evolved into a more self assured woman after all she had been through. This was a super fun read!! I want more!

It has action and romance together in a book that you start strong and it keeps on strong till the end.

Read my review of the first book!

The couple: Craig and Emma

Romance trope: romantic suspense
Series: Edge of the Heat
Length: 228 pages

Plot: This book takes place immediately after the cliffhanger of the first book. Emma is sure that Norman has done something to Craig and that Craig is in danger if he's even still alive. So she discharges herself from the hospital and goes back to the forest fire to find him. But it can't be that easy, can it? There's a lot of healing and danger to get through before their happy ever after.

Commentary: Norman is the bad penny that just won't stay down! We also meet Vivian in this book and she will be integral to Emma's life and the series as a whole. Emma and Craig get all those pesky misunderstandings cleared up (honestly, lol Emma with her visions!). Fun story.

Previous book in the series: Edge of the Heat
Next book in the series: Edge of the Heat 3

seems disjointed ….spoilers

I started out enjoying this book but there were some things that really annoyed me. The biggest was when Craig was nearly poisoned by his food in the hospital and Hawk tells him not to eat anything unless it comes from him. Then leaves to go do something else for the rest of the night and craig goes to sleep. That was supposed to have been his first meal since coming out of a coma, they take it away and never bring him anything.

The next morning, Vivian comes by to go to breakfast with Emma. Emma asked Craig what he wants for breakfast and he tells her a bunch of meat and eggs. Jeanne is FBI guy has forgotten that somebody tried to kill him by poisoning him for food from the cafeteria the night before.

Not to my taste; writing and characterisation immature and unclear why it took a whole book to tell a story that could have made a good couple of chapters. Won't be reading any more of this series.

3.5 stars, Better than the first one. The main character is still kind of whiney, but better. This one tied up everything from book one, however it was pretty sudden.

Absolutely incredible just like the first book by Lisa Ladew.

I love how the relationship w/Craig & Emma developed. There was some ups & downs w/them but all in all I enjoyed getting there with two of my favorite characters. :) I am going to post some of my favorite quotes from the book. I can't wait for book 3 to come out. I'm dying w/anticipation.

*SPOILER ALERT*

This is right after Emma finds Craig in the wildfire & has him transported to the hospital. " She squeezed his hand & whispered in his ear, Please come back to me my love." I felt like this was the first time Emma really started to feel love for Craig. I liked how sweet & innocence her love for him was.

Craig was in a induced coma and this is what Emma spoke to him. "Come on baby, wake up please. I want to squeeze your hand & feel you squeeze mine back. I want to see you smile & laugh & hear your voice. I want to see those luscious dimples light up our face. " It so made me want to be in that hospital room & see his sexy grin as well. I loved being able to imagine what my Craig in my head looked liked.

"Emma, I'm starving." "Oh yeah? Starving for? she trailed off, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. She walked over to his bed & an her fingers down his bare chest in between the two halves of the gown."

"He growled & grabbed her around the waist, pulling her onto the bed. Starving for a big plate of bacon & eggs that I can eat off your bare ass."

"Ewwww, gross. Emma laughed."

I do believe this was my all time favorite quote throughout the entire book. The silliness & sexiness of Craig & Emma just made me wanna crawl into the hospital bed w/him. I so want to be Emma, cause damn Craig is such an ultimate fantasy boyfriend for me!

I have already written about the first book in the series and I really enjoyed that and I must say that I enjoy this book too but it is very different. Emma turns from a strong independent, a bit naive, woman to become really stupid. She dont take anything serious or even if she does she dont act like it. She just runs head first into whatever without thinking a second about what she does. How she acts and talks at the hospital with people around her and she knows that her ex-husband is a pshycopathic cop who has it in for her and still she dont stop for a second about what she say or whom can hear here.

The story is very different from the first book, this is more romance even if it still has a lot of humour in it and is very thrilling. there are good parts in this book that I really enjoy. I cant say I dislike the book because I laugh, I cry and God knows I hate parts of it and just want to throw the book into the wall. It has everything a book should have and it makes me feel. Its good. I also like that this book dont have a cliffhanger like the first one. It make it sort of an end even if ther is more books in the series to be read.

We also get to see different perspective from the book. We get to see things from Emma, Craig and Normans view and that makes the book really good but it also makes me hate Norman even more and I think that is a bit of the point.

I will buy the third book in the series because I really enjoy this series. It is not like other romance books I have read. I really enjoy this in another way. It has a good story line but a bit stupid and naive characters. The book itself is very well written and a well written book with a good storyline makes the journey a lot better for the reader.

The action, suspense, mystery was well written, kept me clued to my Kindle. It has some curves to it that were surprise, angles that made it all interesting. The strong point of the series!

The romance still feels a bit clumsy, but better than in book one. There is something about calling each other 'my love' that makes it sound foreign. Heat level of the story also arises with a love scene. I don't know how it is possible to make love just few days after life treading injuries and surgery, but here they do.

The male characters are true alpha, strong and capable, but not afraid to show their feelings (yes, they cry).
The heroine, Emma, seems to be run by her emotions, a bit excitable. Tends to forget everything and everyone else except the focus of her current emotion.
The villain is truly evil sociopath. When some parts of the story is told by his point of view, it made my skin crawl.

The book does not end with a cliff hanger, but with a possibility of more to the story.

I honestly had no idea where I would be taken in this next book, surly Emma couldn’t be going through more tough times when it comes to her ex, however it’s not the case in this book. The guy from Emma’s vision turns out to be fellow firefighter Craig Masterson, she really messed up in the first book, however little did she know that the guy she was searching for was right in front of her. I found myself really engaging with the story a lot more in this book, it had everything you could ask for. I felt bad for both Emma and Craig as all they want is a break however there’s the problem of Norman hanging around and trying to kill Craig but also attempting to get her back. However they both learn a lot more about each other in this book as they figure a way to deal with Norman.

Honestly this is such a breathtaking book which will leave you with mixed emotions, honestly though I think it’s worth a read. I seriously love Lisa’s writing style as it’s completely different to other authors, I would recommend you to try reading her work, however it’s entirely up to you.

A fitting second book for this series. Emma and Craig have finally resolved their differences and are becoming a couple when it all goes awry. Emma, as an EMT, doesn't usually work wild fires, but she does this time just to keep herself busy. She drives a huge tanker of water up into the middle of the fire. Before she goes back for a second load of water, she embarks on a search for injured to get out of the line of the fire. Sure enough, she finds a hunter with a compound leg fracture right on the leading edge of the fire. She has to stabilize him, splint his leg and build a travois to get him out. She's doing a great job staying ahead of the flames when a huge old tree comes down and whacks her with one of it's branches. Craig finds her and saves both her and the injured hunter. Emma discovers her twin sister in this one, too. The suspense toward the end will keep you reading full tilt. I really liked this book, and you will too.

This one kept me in the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading.

I loved seeing Emma start standing up for herself and not cowering at the thought of her corrupt cop ex husband.
It continues off where the first book ended. Craig found Emma in a forest fire and forgave her for her stupidity and she found out that he is the man in her vision. She was taken to the hospital and when she woke up she finds her no-good-dead-beat-corrupt-cop-ex-husband by her side and not her loving Craig. This is where are story and drama starts.
Craig and Emma's love gets put to the test. Emma finds her long lost twin sister. We get to see and learn more of Hawk, Craig's friend and FBI partner. He's a hoot.

The best thing about drama's, their lives are more chaotic and more crazy then your so you are thankful for your small crazy circus and little monkeys.

Well, this seems to wrap up Craig and Emma's story, but there are five more books and supposedly 3 more couples, so I'm not so sure what's up.

This book had much more excitement, although we spend the first three chapters or so reliving moments from the last book. Craig's been shot, Norman's still psychopathic crazy, and kidnaps Emma. Also, we finally find her long lost twin!

While Emma and Craig finally consummate their relationship, in one long scene, there's little to no romance in the rest of the book. It's all action-thriller-suspense until the end. Things seem to be resolved with Norman, but he's not dead and the rest of the peeps haven't been prosecuted, so I hope that's all resolved by book 7 at least.

Reading these in the Collection of #1-7: Made it to the end of book 2 - stepping back from this set for now because I really can't take anymore of Emma Hill at the moment. I find her to be a whiny, overly emotional, dramatic, woe-is-me, naive brat. Everything is her crying and in tears - ENOUGH ALREADY! You'd think that after what you have been through in life, between your childhood and piece of shit ex-husband, you'd have a bit more of a freaking spine! Put your Big-Girl Panties on and GROW UP!!!

Edge of the Heat 2

By: Lisa Ladew
Narrated by: Anya West
Series: Edge of the Heat, Book 2
Length: 5 hrs and 16 mins

I listened to this book at 1.40x. To 1.50x
I did have a problem with the big deep breath taken before every sentence. It would have been nice if it was edited out. Very distracting .

Surprisingly good. Couldn't put down. Very much going on. Firefighting, FBI involved, crooked cops. EMT. doctors.

Looking forward to book 3.

Vocal artist Anya West did a really good job being it to life. But I had to listen to it at 1.40x or 1.50x to make it more exciting.

I didn't leave the best review for the first book,

this book picks up from the cliffhanger left from the first book.

I am not a fan of cliffhangers, or non-first person points of view.

but if you ended up reading the first book, I think you will be satisfied with how the second book ends up.

not my favorite series, but I liked it enough to read the second book, so I guess that means something.

Simply couldn't put this down. Fast paced short read full of excitement & suspense. Some of it was totally obvious & in my head I was screaming at them not to go back to Emma's place, willing Craig to live (twice) & that Emma & Viv could escape & thus survive. Also found it a little surprising that Hawk didn't realize they were trying to attack a booby trapped house with no villain actually inside. Looking forward to reading part 3.

I should start with I borrowed the 4 Ebook set from kindle and if it wasn't for the set I would have stopped at book 1 but cause it was a set I got to really enjoy book 2 which was 10x better then book 1 but I still found Emma annoying and I still loved Craig but I wish that there was more interaction with Jerry and Hawk cause they seem like such a great characters. The story became more fast paced in this book and the plot thickens. I really enjoyed it.

This is the second book for Emma and Craig. Again, I thought it had action and suspense and romance. I thought it was a great continuation of what was started in the first book. The only thing that seemed a little rushed to me was Emma and her sister figuring out they were twins. That seemed to happen awfully quick with not a lot to go on. Otherwise, it was another great read. I'm looking forward to continuing on with the series.

Great Series

Note: I read up to book five, before coming back to write my reviews on the series thus far.

All of the stories (too book 5) have a great plot, great leading characters, great supporting characters and the hidden villain you hope gets caught but seems to slip through until he makes a fatal error.

You'll mostly like see my same review on the other books as well.
