Through a handheld mirror connected to another world, college student Ichika shares a friendship with a boy named Cecil―one that only her older sister, Karen, knows about. When Karen and the mirror disappear one day, Ichika is devastated. But grief turns to shock a year later when she, too, is sent to the world on the other side, only to find her lost sister and a grown-up Cecil! Except…why are her sister’s first words to her “I’ve missed you, Karen”? And why is everyone else calling her “Ichika”?!
In a world where her name and her past have been stolen, Ichika must find a way to forge her own destiny!
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of love triangles at all. However this one? I'm all on board because I LOVE both the guys! They are as opposite as night and day but that's WHY I love them both! And while it is VERY complicated and this technically may not be a love triangle, I don't see how it's not setting up one due to how things unfolded in this volume. I can't say more on that due to spoilers, but it spoke VERY highly to me personally that I was okay if this gets pretty messy because right now I don't want either guy to "lose." LOL!
The story itself was very very good! I really love Ichika and how amazing of a heroine she is in light of her sister really stealing her name in another world! I felt she handled things far more calmly than I ever could as well as didn't let herself cave into discouragement because it felt like her freedoms had been taken from her.
I'm not really sure how things will unfold moving forward because that ending was a HUGE cliffhanger and I have no doubts made her sister furious and has completely changed things moving forward. I'm sure she will still be enraged and I think will even see Mr. Grumpy Swoonworthy continue to warm up to Ichika, but I think she is going to gain a lot more favor with the people overall. In the short time she's been in this new world, she's already won over many hearts with her earnestness to learn more about this new world.
I know I already mentioned but I really really really like both the male leads! I genuinely hope my heart won't be too devastated later on! LOL!
After reading this once, I went and skim read it again because I enjoyed it so much the first time! Definitely another series I desperately need volume two to hurry up and release!
Two books in a row with awful sisters? Apparently that's a new theme in English manga licensing. But this one was very good - Ichika's older sister Karen shows her true colors when she effectively steals Ichika's isekai experience, and she's not pleased when Ichika is brought to the other world as well. Everyone appears to be lying in one way or another (except Ichika), and the intrigue adds a nice tension to the story.
That's the sound of my teeth gnashing together, because I really really cannot stand Karen.
It was a little slow at the start... but maybe that's because I was so hyper focused on hating Karen, that it was distracting me from the story... It finally hit its groove about half way through and the the ending. THE! ENDING! I hate cliffhangers. But now I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.
Thank you Yen Press for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Fantasy- shoujo mangas like this one can be very toxic and misogynistic instead of empowering & thought-provoking for the sake of glorifying the royal imperial life but so far this one is doing... ok. At least so far, the Female Lead did not have to suffer much to get this shiny Prince Male Lead as a reward (◔_◔)
Since I do not enjoy "family/sister drama", I have mixed feelings about this one. Seriously, for once I wanna see more a strong healthy sister duo in this genre where the one sister isn't a white lotus green tea bitch that can easily exploit and backstab her naive guillable softie sister!
Part of me wishes that the FL's sister, the real Karen isn't as mean as we are being lead to believe and she is a pawn in the Queen's schemes to protect her own sister from the Queen but if the story goes with this route the execution will be bad, if it doesn't the story will be bad so... we shall see where it goes. However, if there is no twist and the sister is the real bitch well, I don't think I'll continue reading this.
I also think that
I have mixed feelings about the characters but I quite liked that MC still thought about her original world. The art is above average: it is not incredible, but it is quite detailed.
Overall; It’s a standard shoujo isekai, but somehow it’s not boring and too generic. Nothing groundbreaking but it’s solid. Dont expect much but definitely give it a try.
This was so good! Ichika is a strong character. She's intelligent, kind, and not passive at all, even when she finds herself pretty powerless in this new world thanks to her horrible sister. I adore both love interests and cannot decide who I'm rooting for more. This ended on a cliffhanger that's sure to drastically change the narrative and relationships, so I'm eager for more.
So, I’m not really a fan of these isekai-adjacent stories.
I can understand the appeal to an extent—but, they don’t really do much for me personally. I find the storytelling to be rather lackluster.
Here, for example, the story ostensibly revolves around two pairs of siblings—one pair of sisters from our world and one pair of half-brothers from another world. When the sisters are transported to this other world through a magic mirror, their lives become more complicated as they discover their magical abilities and find themselves engaged to the royal brothers. As none of these siblings seem to get along with each other, there is a great deal of strife that propels the story forward. The sisters have switched places as well in this other world which leads to much miscommunication and confusion. (But, honestly, that plays a very minimal part in terms of the plot.)
That’s a huge simplification—but, I’d say it’s more descriptive of the actual story than the cover would have you believe.
This story and others like it, I find, tend to have very fraught premises. These stories aren’t based in any logic—and aren’t really meant to, per se. But, I struggle to identify the audience for these stories.
Though there’s a magical world here, there’s no plot that might attract a typical fantasy reader. More, the characters themselves are so stilted and illegible. If readers weren’t told these characters are siblings, there’d be no way to understand their relationship. These characters are just kind of plopped into these ready-made sets with minimal context. Reading stories like this one very much feels like entering a new video game—particularly one of those otome games.
It doesn’t make for a great reading experience.
Anyway.
I don’t think this book is for me. But, if you’re a reader who enjoys a very simple fantasy romance manga or if you are a reader who likes isekai-like stories, then maybe you would get more out of this series than me. Aside from some pretty character designs, I don’t think this one has much going for it~
In Summary Don’t let the “In Another World” portion of the title fool you. Technically this is an isekai, but the isekai aspect is mainly a plot device to throw two modern-day sisters into a fantasy world palace drama. So there is magic, but the meat of the story revolves around sibling rivalries and a love polygon.
The Review This isekai is a bit different from the ones where protagonists get transported into a videogame or novel they’re familiar with. In In Another World, My Sister Stole My Name, modern-day college student Ichika has been communicating for a few years with a child prince of another world via a magic mirror before she abruptly gets sent over. However, the primary conflict of this story is not Ichika dealing with some disaster in her new world. Rather, it’s the feud with the sister whom she thought she got along with.
In other words, the heroine is pitted against her diabolical sister, whose true stripes emerged after gaining magic powers and status in their new fantasy world.
In order to accomplish this situation, the story begins with a ton of plot contrivances. Karen just happens to be the only person to know about Ichika’s mirror and conversations with Prince Cecil. Karen just happens to get transported a year prior to Ichika. The isekai process just happens to twist time such that Prince Cecil is an adult when the sisters cross over. Assuming Ichika’s identity just happens to be convenient for Karen’s purposes, and circumstances just happen to make it easy for Karen to bully Ichika into silence when she arrives.
Plot contrivances aren’t unusual for isekai, but this is a lot even for this genre.
However, if you don’t really care about details and what you really want is a heroine versus her villainous sister in a fantasy story with a love polygon on the horizon, this title may be worth considering. The main players in this drama are two sets of polar opposite siblings. The heroine Ichika is the model student aiming for med school with an honest, pleasant personality liked by everyone. Her sister Karen has no interest in studying, is a smooth liar, and never had qualms about using her sister. Our other siblings are the half-brother princes, Cecil and Noah. Cecil is your stereotypical Prince Charming – good looks, gallant demeanor, and dedication to duty. Prince Noah, on the other hand, is rude and unmotivated. However, because he’s also darkly handsome, sparks are sure to somehow fly with this grump.
And just as Karen’s sister threatens her vaunted position as Saint, Noah is viewed as a threat to Cecil’s position as heir to the throne by individuals such as Cecil’s mother.
The romantic stakes get jumpstarted by the fact that, in this world, otherworlders marry into the royal line. Thus, Karen is already engaged to Cecil when Ichika arrives. Not long thereafter, Ichika’s pushed into an engagement with Noah.
So no Demon Lords, monsters, or fighting scenes. But there are balls, conversations over teacups, and significant looks aplenty. If you like frilly gowns and bishounen in European-style garb, you’ll enjoy the visuals.
Extras include the first two pages printed in color, creator afterwords, and bonus art.
This is an intriguing start to a new series, though it stays true to many hallmarks of a romantic Isekai. A young woman finds herself transported to a parallel world, where she’s soon engaged to a handsome but aloof character who wants little to do with her—a common trope. In that sense, there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking here.
However, there’s an added layer of mystery that sets it apart. The protagonist isn’t the first from her world to arrive; her sister had already made the jump before her, adding a twist to the plot. Another refreshing element is that the protagonist knew about this parallel world in advance, thanks to her communication with a character from that realm via an enchanted mirror. This plot device feels reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast, which adds a nice touch.
The art and mystery element are appealing, and of course, the classic love interest—handsome, arrogant, and mysterious—ticks all the right boxes. I’ll be picking up the next volume to see how the story unfolds and if it manages to break away from the familiar tropes that dominate the genre. I'm hoping for some real character development, such as the protagonist actually needing to learn magic, rather than being instantly perfect at everything. It would also be great to see villains with depth, rather than being just jealous or petty. Fingers crossed for more nuanced storytelling as the series progresses.
Fairly typical isekai, with evil sister. The premise is pretty familiar: a girl gets pulled from our mundane world into a fantasy where she's expected to gain incredible magical abilities and become the lauded savior of the fantasy world. There's a couple of twists here. One is that there's magical communication between the worlds before anyone physically crosses over, between our heroine and one of her apparent love interests. And then the big one, that the vain and greedy older sister of our heroine is the one who crosses first, stealing her sister's identity in the process. This feels like it's borrowing a page from all those manga and webtoons with a meek and abused family member, but this isn't exactly that. Our heroine is being treated very well, and while she isn't exactly fighting her sister off, she's making an active choice to lay low. She also hasn't entirely forgotten her home, and several times thinks about how she needs to return to her parents. So overall, points for cobbling together a few different tropes into something a little more original. Unfortunately, I didn't feel any chemistry with either of the apparent love interests, and although the lead is pleasant enough, I didn't get attached to her character.
24/12/2025 3 ⭐ I think if my library ever gets this series, I'll continue reading, but for now I'm going to leave it here. The plot sounds pretty interesting, but I just read it way too quickly to justify the price tag, unfortunately.
College student Ichika has a magic mirror through which she's been speaking to a boy named Cecil. She hasn't told anybody about it except her one-year-older sister Karen. One day both Karen and the mirror disappear, devastating Ichika's family. But then a year later, the mirror reappears and sucks Ichika into the world on the other side - where her sister Karen is living under Ichika's name, and engaged to Cecil - who turns out to be a prince! Now Ichika has to build a new life as 'Karen'.
This reminds me of the Goose Girl fairytale, with the impostor jealously doing everything to keep up the pretense. It's a typical 'saint' isekai setup so far, but I am interested to see how the truth (hopefully) gets out, and how the real Ichika will adapt to everything the new world throws at her.
Content concerns: no nudity/sex at this point; no swearing, no drugs, presence of alcohol at parties but no habitual drunkenness; strained relationships between siblings (not just Karen/Ichika); arranged marriages without choice or consent
as of today i read the first 6 chapters of this which i think is volume 1 + 1 chapter of volume 2
interesting premise! haven't really seen not one but 2 people getting transmigrated to another world randomly, espeically not siblings. don't get why she just went with the lie her sister told (completely switching their names and lives) instead of clearing it up- the reasoning given doesn't seem strong enough to me. think they're gonna do another twist with having noah actually be the guy that she was talking to through the mirror but i guess we'll just have to see. not really a fan of the typical hardworking white lotus mc and unjustifiably evil sister trope so i hope in the future they'll expand on it since everything right now seems very average despite the different premise. also hate how the mc snapped at those guys trying to console her like girl they were trying to make you feel better bcs they know how noah is why are you getting mad at them for talking shit????

What if your sister stole your identity and went isekai to the world of the boy you were talking with for years? Say hello to Ichika and her horrible horrible sister Karen (even her name is appropriate though I did think it was hilarious how the parents named one sister Japanese and the other an English name). Karen has disappeared a year before Ichika and when Ichika comes along her sister is engaged to her Cecil, everyone loves her (or so it seems because Karen is an absolutely bitch), and then there is Ichika trying to get used to being called Karen and finding out how the world works and gaining the love/trust of those around her. Come along Noah who is just an asshole and should be a bit less horrible and who turns out to be engaged to Ichika (our one). *sighs* I did like the ending and now I desperately need more. Especially since I seriously want to see Karen get thrown of a cliff. Bye.
Are you in the mood for a story straight out of a soap opera? We have rival sisters, love triangles, identity theft, secrecy, deceit, and MORE in this little, unassuming-looking shojo volume disguised as an isekai. I’m so glad I read this manga, I LOVED it and it’s going to live rent-free in my mind for a while.
Who is this series for? This manga is perfect for fans of isekais and historical fantasy stories! In Another World, My Sister Stole My Name has sibling jealousy, identity theft, misunderstandings, and blossoming romance.
The main lead knows when to push and when to back off, making her point of view in the story easy to empathize with. The plot is complicated, but not too complicated. It’s a fun read if this is something that’s up your alley!
okay wow - this is a cautious 4.5★ rating because I can't tell yet if I was swept off my feet solely because the art is absolutely STUNNING, or because the story was really that great. the art here is seriously gorgeous and all the people are too dang beautiful. I love the close up face shots!! the story here is also a fun twist on the isekai genre with a sneaky sister who has stolen her identity. I love the tsundere ML right now, and real ichika's saints power at the end are hinting at something crazy next volume!!

top tier shoujo isekai <3 the fml is a ball of sunshine and the ml is kinda tsundereish but we'll see. I have a thousand fanfic scenarios in my head of how we can t-orment Noah waiting for the new chapter <3333
This was a fun twist on the isekai genre, with pre-isekai-ing contact with the other world, the main character's identity being stolen by her older sister, and royal intrigue to boot! The art is quite pretty, as is the cover. I'll definitely check out volume 2. 4 stars.
9/24 Frustrating premise and began a little fast but ultimately engaging with interesting characters and with that cliffhanger end I'm definitely eager for vol. 2!
Stunning artwork, great range of characters, and clever story plot! The ending left me begging for more so time to run to the store and pick up the second volume!
An interesting premise for this one with lots of mysteries getting built up. I don't looooove it and a lot of the plot hangs off of the protagonist being a pushover, but it's a fun read so far.
