My first love is now my sworn enemy, and I'm about to become his new boss.I’ll never forget the last football game of my career. Instead of getting offers from NFL scouts, my dreams were crushed, along with my leg. All because of one man. A man I now hate. He betrayed me. Broke my heart. Shattered my life. Now I finally have the chance to destroy his. It won’t be quick and painless. As the new owner of the Cincinnati Crusaders, I will make him suffer every minute of every day, waiting and wondering how it will all crumble. Matt Harrison may be even more gorgeous than I remember but even his all-American looks and seductive charm can’t hide the real man inside, the one who bullied me out of an NFL career and stole it right out from under me. Every time we’re thrown together, the anger and rage forces me to do things to him…things that make me feel like I’m taking back some of the control I lost years ago. There’s a fine line between love and hate, and it blurs more and more with each day that passes. But Matt has a secret…and it’s big enough to flip my world upside down. And I don’t know we can survive the truth.
Hot Receiver is book three of the Red Zone Series. It’s a second chance hate to love angsty MM coming out sports romance that has high heat, forbidden love, and a villain to keep things really interesting.
-mm romance -football star/team owner -second chance -coming out story

✍︎ Football 🏈 Player X Team Owner ✍︎ Hate To Love ✍︎ Second Chance ✍︎ Forced Proximity ✍︎ Hurt Comfort ✍︎ Homophobia ✍︎ Secret Relationship ✍︎ Regrets & Guilt ✍︎ Heatbreak/Betrayal ✍︎ Mental Health/Therapy
✎ This the third book in the Red Zone series, and the series just keeps getting better and better each book,I’m tempted to say this is my favorite one in the series but I will wait till I read the fourth one.
✎ Matt is a man with a good heart, put between a hard place and a rock. Because of his father’s addiction ,he has to choose between betraying the man he loves or not fulfilling his obligations to his family. So he chose the former and he has been leaving with the guilt of that betrayal for the past 8 years. He’s also a man of secrets but is world of lies and secrets is about to crumble in because the man he betrayed 8years ago turned out to be the owner of the Football team he’s been playing for.
✎ Zak is a broken man, with a lot of hurt, bitterness and anger,it’s understandable when the man you love betrays you,the teammate you thought had your back band together and destroyed the one dream you had, because they found out you are gay.So when Zak father died and he inherited the football team his ex boyfriend plays for,he swore to get revenge, but Zak forgot that that heart always wants what it wants.
✎ Matt and Zak put me through it,their story was very emotional, there was hurt, betrayal, broken hearts, guilt, lies and secrets.Nothing about their love was easy but they push through all the adversity and got their happy ending.
Matt and Zak first met when they both played football in college. They were both closeted at the time and began secretly hooking up. Then Zak was outed, and his team didn't protect him during a game, leading to a career-ending injury. All of which he blames Matt for. Matt went on to a successful career in the NFL and pretends to be a charismatic, straight playboy in his personal life. Zack walked away from football and became a very successful hedge fund manager.
Unfortunately, Zak’s father bought Matt’s football team right before he died, leaving Zak as the new owner. As soon as Matt and Zak are near each other, their chemistry is evident despite the volatile nature of their relationship. It isn't long before they’re having angry hook-ups that neither man can resist. They both know it's bad for them, but they’re still drawn to each other.
”Hot Receiver” is an angsty enemies-to-lovers romance. Zak has every reason to hate Matt and Matt has every reason to avoid Zak. The author did a great job of telling the story and revealing the character’s motivations. Matt’s friend Anna was an interesting side character, although I did feel bad for her since she had real feelings for Matt. The spicy scenes between the two men were hot, even when they were angrybeith each other. I enjoyed this book and rated it four stars.
This book was really good with characters you will definitely love! Matt and Zak have a history, one that is takes them back to their college days. Matt made one decision and it changed everything for Zak. Zak has had to live with that everyday since then. It was a slap in the face when Matt got drafted and is living the NFL dream. With this, these two guys need to face each other and talk about what happened. Heal from the past and move on. Zak is now the owner of the team that Matt plays for. There's alot that goes on with this. He gets a lot of crazy fans with crazy ideas for what going to happen with the team. The press love to make up stories and while this is going on, Zak is exploding on anyone who looks at him wrong. He has some hard decisions to make including what to do with Matt. These two are sneaking around and rekindling their romance they had in college. This was a good book and despite the back and forth, will they or won't they finally get together, it wasn't annoying like it is in some books. I liked both characters and it was nice to see one step out and make a statement while the other gets the help he so desperately needs.
"Hot Receiver," the third book in the Red Zone series by Brooklyn Cate is a gripping and emotional read. This was my first encounter with this author's work and I'm pleasantly surprised by the depth and intensity of the story.
The book kicks of with a few emotional chapters. As the story progresses, more layers are unveiled.
Zak and Matt have a deep understanding of each other and find peace only when they're together. Many years ago, they were each other's first love. After a terrible event, they lost touch but still longed for each other. When Zak becomes the owner of Matt's football team, they are thrown back together. They can't resist each other, and what starts as hate sex or revenge quickly becomes comfort and peace.
I did miss some more depth or explanation about the start of their relationship years ago and the terrible event that separated them, but overall, it was a very good story. The spice was also very tingly.
I am addiced to this series and really enjoyed my time with this book. It's really easy to connect with these characters.
Zak has had a tough run of luck, but managed to turn things around for himself, until the unthinkable happens, leaving him with a responsibility he doesn't want.
This author is really good at grabbing and keeping my interest focused on the story and the dynamics of the character's emotions! There is crazy chemistry between Matt and Zak, but their past doesn't allow anything other than animosity. Unfortunately, Zak's angry outbursts and difficult attitude has hurt his team, and his PR people have some ideas on how to fix it - that involves Matt. (Throw Anna into the mix, and misunderstandings run rampant!!) I couldn't put this down!!
The passion of this couple is super steamy and the roller coaster of their emotions kept the pages turning. Their connection and HEA was very satisfying and I finished the read with a smile! Love that!
I do recommend reading this series in order for the best experience. I look forward to the next one from this author.
At the end of the second book, Matt Harrison is openly talking to Jace and Lucas about how hot he thinks Vance is. Jace mentioned at some point prior to that how he felt Matt was probably going to come out soon. Suddenly the third book starts at the same place and Matt’s deep in the closet and says the only guy who knows his secret that was in the room was Zak? If you’re going to make such a plot change, it would be nice to acknowledge that you felt the need to do so for some reason as a note before the book starts. I have seen that before and it was for much smaller changes.
I really wanted to enjoy this but the whole plot seemed far fetched—are we really to believe all these random people are around with bats to beat down members of the team (2nd book) or the team owner (this book)? And similar to how the second book used the same trope as the first, this one took the same plot point of a homophobic beat down with a group of guys and then the two MCs getting flack for it.
This is the first book that I've read from this author and is a MM hate to love, sports romance, second chance romance, hate to love romance coming out romance that's part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
This is book #3 Red Zone Series.
Zak and Matt will grip your heart. Matt is such a good soul and has been hurt so bad. Zak is broken and after making a hard choice has to live with his decision. My heart. My heart. My heart with these two guys. (NO SPOILERS)
This book will pull your heart strings and rip your emotions all over the place.
This author brought these characters to life perfectly and on how my heart ached for Zak and all that he is going through. These characters had a very strong connection and This book is full of angst, secrets and lies and drama and betrayal you will be totally hooked throughout and you will be rooting so very hard for these guys. I highly recommend this book.
Book 3 of the Red Zone Series did not disappoint. This was a dark, 2nd chance, hate/love football sports romance that had an MM coming out story but also had a player/owner power taboo and had a revenge feel to it.
There was a lot of angst with this one but I also felt like their family lives as well as their history really played a part in all of that. Both of these guys are “broken” for different reasons and there was a lot of hurt and betrayal along with all the secrets they were both keeping. I loved that Zak and Matt were able to put some of the guilt and lies aside as the chemistry felt real to me like they could literally jump right off the page. It takes a really strong creative mind to make the characters feel realistic to a reader and I feel like Brooklyn Cate did that with this one for me.
Ehh idk I mean... if was just okay you know? But you can't fault an author who's new to being an author. We need to encourage and pour into authors.
Not everyone is going to love and appreciate you. This author's obviously just starting out in her journey but I want to be there for her and support her! (Or him or they I honestly didn't even check).
It's so important to acknowledge the homophobia in Texas but write a love story about it anyway. If 2 college football players fall in love, they fall in love. Being gay is a scientific and proven concept that you are being with. I felt I had to address that since so many have gotten it wrong about... the MC who was known around the NFL streets as a homophobe but isn't. It is a wild ride. Enjoy
Hot Receiver is the third book in the Red Zone series by Brooklyn Cate. This second chance/enemies to lovers story will have you turning the pages to see how these two discover all that they are meant to be. Matt and Zak's story was very emotional, there was hurt, betrayal, broken hearts, guilt, lies and secrets. Nothing about their love was easy but they push through all the adversity and got their happy ending. Their connection and HEA was very satisfying and I finished the read with a smile! Love that!
They fight the attraction, they fight each other, they get together, they break up, they're back together. A lot of instances where they have to fight how homophobic everyone else is. Tbh, it's put me a tad bit off reading the next story, but I'm also committed. The setup in the epilogue for the next book I liked. This story has me wondering about a couple of things. It just seemed odd the way they played out. I'm hoping the next book is different because they others have played out pretty much the same.
Oh the way these characters will tug on your heartstrings. This is a wonderful second chance romance full of angst. Both Matt and Zac have a lot going on individually and the character progress was so fulfilling. I have really enjoyed this series and love the way these stories are all interconnected but can still be read as fully standalone books. Be sure to check content warnings as there are some sensitive scenes.
I believe the author is secretly homophobic with the crap she makes characters deal with. This book is threats and unhappy storyline. Yes it ends happy but you have drudge through the most homophobic and depressing stuff for some that's fine but not for me . I finished book one but won't be finishing this one or next.
Hot Receiver is the third book in the Red Zone series and it's another great book. This is a hurt/comfort, second chance, boss/employee book about Matt and Zac. These two have to go through so much to get to their HEA.
I really enjoyed this book, and the characters were great. Even though there are bad characters in it. There were more good characters to outlay the bad. I normally don't go for sports stories but I enjoyed this one, love it.
Hot Receiver is a blending story of love, betrayal, and revenge that will keep you hooked from start to finish. Zak and Matt are torn apart after heartbreak and betrayal, shattering their college romance. Years later, they find themselves in each other's lives when Matt is set to play on the team that Zak owns. The tension radiated off the page, and I was wholly gutted for Zak.
Both of these strong MMCs are stirred by buried emotions and growing intensity, but deep down, they still care for one another. The plot twists are well-crafted, especially the shocking secret that threatens to turn everything upside down. The emotional depth is so bittersweet - this is my favorite of the series so far! I loved it so much.
I really enjoyed this book. The love they felt was real and heart breaking they had to hide it. The book was well written I devoured it in a day. Best friends lovers soul mates.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
My notes from reading was: So much hate sex, then BAM! Everything works out!
Started this one for the hate sex and I got exactly what I wanted!! New owner of the team X golden player on team. They had a relationship in college. Played on same team. New owner was injured during play and never returned to the sport he loved. Golden player has some family issues, and he’s continued to live a lie. He’s been in the closet. This whole series is a dark sports romance, that was difficult for me to read in the beginning, as I prefer fun, fluffy, light romance. But sometimes you’re just in the mood for enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, closeted mm romance.
There’s a lot going on in this book, and it seems to be the way this series is, lots of hate, homophobia, and wrapping up family conflict too quickly, but it fine, I was more interested in seeing how the two were going to resolve their hate to lovers romance.
