I'd Never Date my Brother's Best Friend

Rate this book
This is a kisses only, sweet romance.

A movie star, a grump next door and a dating experiment gone awry.

My brother’s best friend has always been a gorgeous thorn in my side. He’s the famous Sean O’Connell, rom-com celebrity, owner of a smile that can melt even the coldest of hearts.

My new next-door neighbor is not the man of my dreams.

He’s one of the happiest people I’ve ever met, and to be honest, it’s annoying. I don’t have to be happy or like people. I’m good, thank you very much.

But Sean thinks I need to be happy, and that means being in a relationship. He’s recruited my best friend and my brother to put the “Get Jessica A Man” plan into action.

A makeover and some speed dating were absolutely not on my social calendar. But there’s no stopping him once his minds made up.

As Sean’s sunny disposition starts to rub off on me, I feel myself falling. But for the wrong guy.

Is it possible the thorn in my side is actually the rose I’ve been longing for?

This is a sweet, kisses only, brother’s best friend, close proximity, enemies to lovers, opposites attract, slow burn, and happily ever after. Let yourself get swept up with Sean and Jessica and I hope you fall in love with the two of them and are left wanting more! This book is a standalone.

This was a cute story. Jessica and Sean grew up together. Jessica always had a crush on him but he always acted oblivious to her, and treated her like an annoying little sister.

Sean is a famous actor and he's unfortunately been pulled into media frenzy that was not his fault and is completely inaccurate. He heads home to lie low, while this circus calms down. He's so excited to see his family, his best friend, Jamie, as well as Jamie's little sister, Jessica. If he's being honest with himself though, he doesn't see Jessica as a sister and he's not sure how he feels about that.

Jessica is both thrilled and terrified that Sean is back. She knows he doesn't like her the same way she likes him, so distance is better. Besides that, she's experiencing writer's block and that's making her grumpier than usual. Evie, Jessica's best friend and Sean's sister helps keep her grounded.

The story is fun and light. The characters are great and I liked them all. Lovers of sweet romance stories are going to enjoy this grumpy sunshine book! I know I did. Another new author for me to explore!.

I've read a few of Abby Greyson's books, and they are always super sweet stories. This one is no different. I loved Sean and Jessica's story.

Sean is a rom-com Hollywood star who returns to his hometown for a break from celebrity life. When he gets home, he runs into Jessica, his sister's best friend. Sean is Jessica's brother's best friend, so they essentially grew up together. Jessica has always had a crush on Sean, but he has always treated her like a little sister. Jessica feels Sean will never like her the way she likes him, but soon finds out he has always seen her as more than his best friend's little sister.

'I'd Never Date My Brother's Best Friend' is a fun, cute, and light-hearted read. The characters are entertaining and relatable. Sean and Jessica had an amazing connection and it was fun witnessing how things played out once they finally acknowledged their feelings for each other. Jessica is the grump in this story, while Sean is the sunshine. I enjoyed the storyline, and the speed dating part of the story was fun. This sweet, closed-door romance will leave a smile on your face.

Thanks to Abby Greyson for the e-ARC. Opinions expressed are my own.

I love a good romance novel and this was my first foray into to these new modern day romances popping up everywhere. The last “modern day” romance I read has to have been from the early 2000’s-2010’s. I’m a hopeless romantic and romance novels are my favorite genre to read so I went into this with an open mind to get a taste of what the current authors of the day are publishing. There’s been very, very, very few times I’ve been unable to enjoy a romance novel. Unfortunately, this was one of those times.

Now, I detest spoilers so I will do my best to be as thorough as possible without giving anything away should you choose to read the story for yourself.

To begin, Sean and Jessica’s backstory felt lacking, in my opinion. Their backstory was minimal. The only connection it gave them was that of knowing each other since childhood and Sean tormenting Jessica from the beginning, which was also stated quite plainly in present day so it didn’t really add anything to the story. Personally, when given a character’s backstory like this I should feel their connection to one another and it should cause me to root for them. That didn’t happen for me. All it did was leave a gaping hole in the story and annoy me with certain character’s behavior.

In turn, I feel as though this lacking backstory also contributed to the chemistry between Sean and Jessica to be lacking as well. Their banter wasn’t cute, oh-no-what-am-I-feeling-I-can’t-have-romantic-feelings-for-them, type of banter. At best it was rude, at worst it was borderline hostile. Sean would say things, 99% of the time, with the sole purpose of upsetting Jessica and making her grumpy because he found it amusing. That’s not cute, or sweet, or endearing. It’s annoying and rude. He acted like a six year old who clearly didn’t get disciplined enough. Their banter improved towards the very end of the book but that couldn’t make up for the rest of it.

Furthermore, I couldn’t stand Jessica’s family and friends meddling in her life. It drove me up a wall! There’s a major difference between “wanting what’s best for someone you love” and “not respecting one’s boundaries because you think you know better than they do”. I felt like everyone disrespected Jessica and her feelings and opinions regarding her own love life. Making a public statement about her love life, knowing it would only upset her, but doing so anyway because “you love her and only want what’s best for her”? No, absolutely not. That’s not love. Personally, that felt manipulative because they knew Jessica wouldn’t get truly angry in front of everyone when they said that like she would have in private. Jessica was embarrassed and upset by her family making those comments in a public setting like that. Maybe if her family and friends respected her boundaries more she would loosen up the reins a little bit all on her own and not have to feel so in control all of the time.

I, also, struggled with Sean’s personality. There’s a fine line between a happy-go-lucky guy and being a bubbly Barbie doll. And I feel as though Sean was more bubbly Barbie doll than anything else. I couldn’t get behind it. Whenever he was “serious” I couldn’t believe he was actually serious with all his past behavior. I don’t think he’s actually capable of it. In the very last few chapters, he was less bubbly Barbie doll and more a happy-go-lucky guy which helped but, again, couldn’t make up for the rest of the book.

As far as Sean and Jessica’s “feelings” for one another, I could never buy into how long they claimed to feel the way they did, realizing their feelings for one another, or even wanting to be together. There was nothing to indicate or make me believe what they said or felt for one another. I was never rooting for them and I should’ve been. I never believed they had any genuine connection with each other and I should’ve.

Now, I will say that the manner in which the “Get Jessica a Man” plan was initiated was really well thought out. I actually liked the idea and its execution seemed quite well done other than Jessica’s friends toeing the boundary line one too many times for my liking. Although, I did feel like there was a small plot hole there. Sean and Jessica should have interacted at least once at that very specific point in the plot but a few pages later Jessica claims not have seen Sean all night. That didn’t make any sense to me. Also, I caught a several grammatical errors that would regularly throw me off and disrupt the flow of the story; however, I’ll chalk that one up more to my ongoing annoyance and severe brain fog making me unable to breeze past them as I normally do.

Although, one thing I could never let go was every mention of Sean’s younger brother “retiring” from the military. If I’m to believe Sean and Jessica to be 28-30 years old and Liam, Sean’s little brother, to be “retiring” from the military it simply doesn’t fit. To retire from the United States armed forces you have to serve a minimum of 20 years, a simple internet search confirms that information. For Liam to be genuinely retiring he would have to have joined the army when he was a toddler. Now, he could very easily have served a single contract, maybe two depending exactly on his age and when he enlisted, and simply be “discharging” or “separating” from the military. But saying he was retiring wasn’t accurate and bothered me every time I saw it.

I’d Never Date My Brother’s Best Friend was, unfortunately, not an enjoyable read for me. I have zero intention of ever reading it again and am quite glad I didn’t pay for it. That being said, I do believe that this book just wasn’t a good fit for me. Sometimes books, or authors just don’t mix with certain readers. I do believe that to be the case here. Which is why despite my negative feedback I do believe the story to have earned 3 stars unlike the other books I’ve reviewed that have received a great deal less than that.

If everything I mentioned above doesn’t matter to you, then you’ll love this book and enjoy it a great deal more than I did! And if those things do not bother you, I do encourage you to read this story and enjoy yourself fully!.

Audiobook Review Addition (November 2024):

Zach Young does a brilliant job bringing Sean to life. He really brings across Sean's sunshine character. Lexi Balter also did a great job, but may have been a bit too sunshine for Jessica's grumpy character.

I still absolutely loved this story on my re-read/listen with the Audiobook...

I absolutely LOVED this story! Battled to put it down...

Sean is an incredible character, and Jessica was loads of fun as well.

I loved their connection and banter, and how they each knew how they felt about the other, but didn't want to act on it, or even acknowledge it, even though everyone around them could see it.

I feel bad for Rick though. lol... And I hope we get to see what happens for Jamie and Evie in future books for this series...

A sweet clean love story
I really, really enjoyed this story of Sean and Jessica’s road to finding happiness.
Growing up together their relationship became very competitive, with lots of banter and with them regularly getting annoyed with each other.
I enjoyed that in this story the woman was the grumpy one and the man the happy one, doing everything he could to find her a man.
Things get complicated when feelings get in the way and neither will admit just how they feel.
Will they be brave enough to open up and reveal all?
This is my first time reading one of Abby’s stories, which I really loved.
I’ll be definitely wanting to know what happens in the rest of the series to Liam, Jamie and Evie.
I own the ebook but listened to the audiobook and liked the narration by Zach Young and Lexi Balter.

This was a sweet, brother's best friend, enemies to more, small town rom com. It's a fun and lighthearted story where Sean and Jessica discover each other while trying to get Jessica a man. There was great dialog and funny banter that made me laugh. It's wonderfully written and so easy to fall in love with the characters and storyline. It was just a delight from start to finish. Well done!.

This is my first book by Abby Greyson and it will definitely not be my last! I thought this was such a fun, easy story to listen to. The romance was sweet, clean, slow burn and low angst. I enjoyed every minute of it. I loved the all characters and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. The dual narrators did an excellent job. I highly recommend this book!

He’s her brother’s best friend, she’s his best friend’s little sister, both are hiding a spark for one another with no intention of doing anything about it.
This book is a clean romance novel and includes:
- Brothers’ best friend
- Best friends’ little sister
- Best friends’ brother
- Movie star
- Grumpy x sunshine (she’s the grump)
- Fake dating (with a twist)
This was a lovely romance novel; it wasn’t a long story and could easily be finished in one sitting, which I did, quite happily. The characters were loveable and the writing for their relationship kept me invested, they were funny, they had tension and they opened up to one another in a really sweet and trusting way.
This is a beautiful story of when opposites attract, and I really liked the reverse grumpy – sunshine trope it was an interesting change to a lot of romance books, and it worked really well.

I would definitely recommend this book and gladly pick up more books from this author when I needed an easy, feel-good read.

3.5 rounded to 4 stars. This was a sweet, reverse grumpy x sunshine, small town romance. I really liked the best friend’s brother trope and how both families ere close. I struggled with how grumpy Jess was with Sean especially since she had liked him since they were in their teens and Sean was a little too over the top nice. All in all I think the story line was great and I loved the speed dating event. If you like clean, closed door romance books, I definitely think this is a book you would love.

Abby Greyson's novel "I'd Never Date my Brother's Best Friend" is a charming small-town romantic comedy in which the author cleverly weaves friendship and love together while enchanting the reader with a light and entertaining story.

At the heart of the story are Jessica and Sean, who have known each other since childhood, having grown up together. Jessica, a successful writer, has always been secretly in love with Sean, who has never treated her as anything more than her annoying little sister.

Sean, an actor famous for his romantic films, has been away from his hometown for a long time. When a media circus prompts his team to suggest he retreat from the public eye and take a break until the next filming, he takes the opportunity to travel home to the small town. He is looking forward to seeing his family he has not seen for a long time, as well as his best friend Jamie and Jamie's little sister Jessica.

Jessica is both happy and terrified that Sean is back, because she knows he would never look at her as anything other than her best friend's sister. The writer's block she's struggling with only makes her situation more difficult, making her grumpier than usual, but her best friend Evelyn – who is also Sean's little sister – is always there to help her through the tough times. Meanwhile, Sean is also struggling with his emotions, as he doesn't understand why, but his feelings for Jessica are not sibling-like at all.

When the two families spend an evening together and talk about Jessica's love life, Sean decides to help Jessica find the perfect match. He is partly motivated by selfish reasons, though, as he hopes to sort out his own confused feelings.

The characters are extremely vivid and likable, making it easy to identify with them and get excited about how their lives will unfold. I found it particularly interesting that while in most similar books the male protagonist is the grumpy one and the female the 'sunshine', in this book Jessica is the grumpy character with an almost permanent annoyed frown on her face and Sean is the light-hearted character who brings smiles to everyone's faces.

Overall, "I'd Never Date my Brother's Best Friend" is a pleasant read that I recommend to anyone who likes sweet romance stories that make you laugh. Abby Greyson cleverly mixes romance and humor, and shows how two seemingly completely different people can complement each other perfectly.

Falling for the Forbidden? Buckle Up!
Ever find yourself yearning for a good rom-com that doesn't feel like a cliché? Look no further than Abby Greyson's debut novel, "I'd Never Date My Brother's Best Friend." This delightful tale whisks you away on a whirlwind of laughter, heartwarming moments, and unexpected connections, reminding you that love can blossom in the most surprising places.
Meet Jessica, the guarded realist, and Sean, the infectiously optimistic movie star. Their paths collide when Sean, determined to play Cupid for his friend Jessica, embarks on a hilarious mission to find her love. Sparks fly as Jessica's resistance to Sean's matchmaking schemes melts away under his charming cheerfulness.
Greyson's magic touch lies in her characters. Jessica isn't your typical damsel in distress. She's relatable, flawed, and fiercely independent. Her fear of vulnerability stems from past heartaches, making her journey towards love all the more captivating. Sean, the sparkling contrast, brings sunshine and laughter, creating a dynamic that's both entertaining and emotionally resonant. The supporting cast, from Jessica's sassy best friend to her protective brother, adds depth and humor, weaving a rich tapestry of relationships.
But this isn't just a light-hearted romp. Beneath the laughter lies a deeper exploration of self-discovery, friendship, and the transformative power of love. Greyson tackles themes of trust, vulnerability, and embracing your true self with a deft hand, reminding us that even the most unexpected connections can lead to profound personal growth.
Greyson's writing is a delightful blend of wit and heart. The dialogue crackles with energy, capturing the characters playful banter and genuine connection. Vivid descriptions transport you from the quiet town streets to cozy coffee shops, immersing you fully in the story's charming world.
"I'd Never Date My Brother's Best Friend" is a feel-good gem that will leave you with a smile long after the last page. Whether you're a hopeless romantic or simply seeking a heartwarming escape, this book is guaranteed to warm your heart and reignite your belief in the magic of love.

This is a short sweet read. Like a lot of Rom-Coms it lends itself to a predictable plot. But even with subjects that can be cliche, or plotlines that can be predictable it is all about how the author handles the subject matter, how writing is executed and the characters themselves.

Abby Greyson does not disappoint. I read this novel in a 7 hour stretch in the ER with a child (yes, he's okay). And enjoyed every bit of it. I did skim parts - but to be fair and honest, I do that if there is a scene with too much dialogue, or dailogue that is dragging on - so for the few scenes that did that I skimmed.

I would not say this is an enemies to lovers but more like a frenemies to friends to lovers. Maybe even a second chance type thing. Smallish town - but not so small that everyone is in everyone's business. Both of them had secret crushes on the other. Where this might be a bit different is that Jessica is best friend's with Sean's sister; Sean is best friend's with Jessica's brother.

I believe there is a set up for a book about Jessica and Sean's siblings - I'll have to read the books Abby has written to see if she's followed up with one yet.

Honestly - this book is light, refreshing, scene free and easily enjoyable. The next Abby Greyson book will be enjoyed on the weekend with a cup of tea, not crunched up in the ER with a son having seizures.

Thank you for producing books that are enjoyable, cute, easy and light reads.

I recieved a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Also - I rewrote this because - in my tired state following the ER visit I left too many spoilers in my last review - and honestly, this book should be enjoyed for the writing, and the way the story flows - it should not be spoiled beyond the usual predictability that comes with a Rom/Com (boy secretly loves boy/girl secretly loves boy, one or the other returns home after a long time away....)

Seriously pick it up and enjoy.

I am so excited to say that I got to ARC read for Abby again!
💚💚This review has slight spoilers💚💚
We start off with a scandal for poor Sean and him flying back home to stay under the radar. When he gets home we meet his best friend, sister, parents and Jessica. Jessica is his best friend's little sister and his sister's best friend. She is a Thriller writer who absolutely HATES romance. We quickly realize she has had a crush on Sean her whole life though. My heart hurt for them all with the fact he hasn't seen any of them in 5 years.
Sean is an over the top Sunshine character while Jessica is a dark and gloomy character. As a very introverted person myself I felt drained reading some of it because he has so much energy (I mean this in a good way). He doesn't hold back. However he argues with himself the entire story telling himself he doesn't love her while she tells herself he will reject her instantly.
Their interactions were adorable and funny and like everyone else it was clear they had strong feelings for eachother.
Their "fake" dates were so adorable and I was dying begging them to confess!
This was a very slow burn which was completely fine. I enjoyed the what ifs and adorable moments were they showed how much they cared. Bingo was one of my favorite parts haha Steve is amazing.
This book also makes me think about Jamie and Evelyn being a thing too. They had a lot of chemistry and it seemed like they kept sneaking away together. Though they could have also been trying to help setup their siblings.
It was a very cute story that honestly had practically no drama. (I kept waiting for paparazzi or a crazy fan to appear haha). It was sweet from start to finish where the Grumpy women meets her sunshine man. Together they shine so bright and I cannot wait to read more of Abby's books. Especially Liam's!
I did feel bad for Rick but he probably knew too. Hopefully he finds the right girl and I hope he gets the first copy of her book

Jessica Stewart is a novelist who writes thrillers & absolutely loathes anything resembling romance...especially romantic comedies. Sean O'Connell is her best friend's brother who happens to be a gorgeous rom-com actor now. But shhhh, don't tell anyone she's actually seen ALL of his movies though!

Sean has been away from home for the last five years living his life and making movies when some tabloid rumors have him wanting to lay low. So he heads back home to enjoy some time off to the peaceful, small town life out of the spotlight. He realizes how much he's missed everyone, including his best friend and sister. Not to mention all the teasing he's missed out on towards Jessica, the grump of the group. He decides he can solve all of her grumpy problems, being the eternal sunshine type that he is, by finding her a boyfriend. Let the games begin!!

This is more of a frenemies to lovers romcom and I adored all of the sarcasm & snarky, witty jabs that both Jessica and Sean threw at each other! They know how to push each other's buttons. The imagery conveyed by each 'narrowing of the eye' or 'side eyeing' after each interaction between them made you feel like you were a hidden spectator right there in the room & I loved every hilarious moment of it! Then, after a fun little twist, you get to see them move towards real friendship and finally into something really sweet. I giggled and laughed out loud as well as teared up. A really fun little clean and sweet romance.

I'd like to thank the author for giving me an advanced copy to read and review. The review is my honest opinion. This was a new to me author and I will definitely be reading more in the future!

"I’m doing this for myself, as much as her. I need to prove that whatever is happening when I’m around her isn’t me having feelings for her. I need this just as much as she does...." (Sean)

Oh my goodness, this book was perfect! I started reading it today and could not put it down. Everyone has their preferences when it comes to romances and how they are played out. This definitely was MY type of story.

Sean and Jessica have always had feelings for each other but it seems it was always masked behind childish games, teasing and just getting on each others nerves. When Sean starts noticing he is developing feelings for Jessica he is determined to push those feelings aside by getting her to be with someone else. He decides he will be her dating coach and set her up with the perfect man for her. Jessica also has feelings for Sean, but she's trying to fight them off as well, so she agrees to entertain Sean's dating advice. But all the time they spend together becomes less playful arguments.... and more growing of true feelings. BUT what happens when Sean's dating advice lands Jessica a REALLY good date?! Then what?!

This was a sweet, sweet story. I loved this! And honestly I am hoping there is another one coming in this series. Perhaps Jamie and Evie? Or maybe Liam falls in love?...

***I recieved this for free as an ARC, but the review is all my own.

AUDIOBOOK Review

Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (5/5)
Narration : 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (5/5)
Spice Level: 🌶️ (1/5 Spices – Kisses only)

This book was like diving into a warm cup of cocoa on a rainy day—cozy, funny, and full of heart!

Sean and Jessica’s dynamic hooked me from the start. Jessica’s grumpiness meets Sean’s sunshine vibe, and their banter is one of the strongest parts of this book. Zach Young and Lexi Balter Narration brought so much energy to the story that I found myself laughing out loud more than once. The dual narration where each narrator performs all of their dialogue in the other’s POV makes the story better.

This book has a few tropes that I love in my reads/listens such as, Best Friend’s Brother/Sister, Grumpy x Sunshine (this time is the FMC who is the grump!), and good old fashion Fake Dating!!

This book is perfect for fans of small-town romance, lighthearted humor, and swoon-worthy tension. Jessica and Sean’s journey from frenemies to lovers was such a treat. The humor, pacing, and depth made it impossible to stop listening.

Would I recommend it? 100% yes, especially if you love sweet romances with hilarious banter and a dash of emotional depth 💕.

Oh the banter, I albosuted loved it.

A reverse grumpy/sunshine isn't common and Abby did a beautiful example of how awesome that is too.

Jess and Sean have know each other practically their whole lifes... They have been fighting practically their whole lifes too 😆 but just because they enjoy it.
She has had a secret crush on him since her teenage years. In those years he discretely encouraged posible boyfriends to go away.

In order of letting die a false rumor, Sean comes back home after 5 years of been away building his career, they reunites and sparks fly, but both try to extinguish them because they are just friends and don't want to ruin everything. Jess already have experience and Sean... try to find her a perfect boyfriend. Obviously a great plan 😆

I loved these guys and I'm hoping to read what happend withe Evie and Jamie, Liam, and maybe also a short story of Rick too (I know I'm not asking for much 😆).

- Reverse grumpy/sunshine
- Brother's best friend/ Best friend's sister.
- Small town romance.
- Celebrity romance.
- Friends to lovers.
- HEA.

This was a cute story. Jess had harboured feelings for Sean, who was both her brother’s best friend and her best friend’s brother, for years. When Sean, a famous actor, retreated to his home town for a break, circumstances led him to take an active role in finding Jess a boyfriend…until he realized that he might not be so happy seeing her with someone else. “I’m the one who set up the whole Get Jessica A Man plan. I didn’t think I would want to be that man.” The characters were fun and the romance was sweet. Sean really leaned into the denial of his feelings. He was the sunshine and Jessica was the grump. He even brought out the practice dating. Mixed signals all over the place. “It just feels like there are moments where he’s giving me brght green lights, and other moments it’s a glaring red sign.” There was a bit of a potential secondary romance that look promising but had no resolution, so I’m hoping that may be a future book. One little thing that bugged me in the book was how the characters were constantly “flinging” their water bottles, drink cans, etc in the trash. Recycling, anyone? This was closed door romance with mild innuendo and very brief mild harsh language.

This is a sweet, small town romance. Jessica and Sean have known each other since childhood. Sean is best friend’s with Jessica’s brother and she is besties with his younger sister. Jessica has had a crush on him now for years but Sean is oblivious and treats her like an annoying little sister.

Sean is a famous actor these days and comes home for a visit after being away for 5 years. He realizes that he doesn’t view Jess as a sister but he is not sure how he feels about that. So instead he tries to help Jess get a man. Jess is a famous thriller writer but having the worst writers block of her life which makes her unusually grumpy.

I thought the banter between our two main characters was great and created some wonderful tension. The side characters were well developed and added to the story. I am looking forward to reading more about them in upcoming books. This book was well written and easy to read. I could barely put it down to find out what happened next. If you enjoy a sweet, grumpy vs. sunshine romance then this book is for you.

Sweet, cheesy in the best way, and a RomCom that makes your heart smile!

This book is so cute. Dual POV is always my favorite and this book was no exception. I love seeing characters deny their feelings, especially when it's very clear to everyone around them what they feel.

Jessica is our grumpy FMC. She takes herself seriously, she gets easily irritated (especially when it comes to a certain movie star), and all she wants in a man is someone who accepts her for who she is.

Sean is our super Sunshiney MMC who moves back to his hometown after a Hollywood scandal. He is charming, funny, and loves to give a certain Thriller Writer a hard time.

Both ignore and deny their true feelings and find themselves in a pickle of matchmaking and jealousy.

I thought this story was so, so cute. And I loved the angle the story took with Sean being determined to find Jess a boyfriend and why. These two were really cute and had some great banter.

There are also some really great seeds planted for future couples throughout!

I'd recommend this book if you're looking for a read to make your heart smile and soul to feel just a touch lighter!

This was such a sweet read. I've always loved all the variations of siblings and best friends (best friend's brother, brother's best friend, etc)... and with this one... you get it all! Her best friend's brother is also her brother's best friend, so that was fun! Right from the start, I enjoyed the banter between Sean and Jessica. Their relationship is filled with teasing and tension... and they didn't seem to get along at all. But as they spend more time together, it seems that their might be a little something more behind that tension. This was definitely a slow burn, with both characters denying their feelings like it was going out of style, but it made the wait all the more worth it. And those dating lessons and bingo night? So fun! This was a fairly quick read, but one that I found to be very enjoyable... and that left me wondering what would happen next in the series.

I'd Never Date My Brother's Best Friend is a closed-door romance, with nothing beyond kisses. There were just a few (two) very minor swears.

**ARC received for consideration. Opinions are my own.

Jessica enjoys writing her thriller novels, ok she maybe a bit grumpy and not really keen mixing with too many people at the same time. But secretly she wants a relationship where is no.1, not having to always do what her partner wants, still able to spend time with her best friend and having her own input in things. Secretly she knows the perfect person but he would never look at her that way. Sean loves what he does being famous as a rom com hero certainly draws the ladies. Although he isn't interested with any of the woman as all they're interested in is his fame and money. Going back to his hometown makes him realise how much he misses his family and friends. Jess knows just how to bite back at his teasing and it always makes him happy for some reason. What is about Jess that keeps him thinking about her all the time. This is a sweet story of will he won't he, but I must admit having Jess as the grump is a lovely change. I can't think of anything I didn't like about this book, it's a lovely easy to read book.

This is a fun, funny, and relaxing read that drew me in and reminded how much fun small town romances are. This has a great touch of the humor I love which I call Me Think She Doth Protest Too Much in what i see as a Frenimies to Lovers romance. The connection between Jessica and Sean has such an electric quality that it just singes the edge of the pages and infuses their every look, interaction, and even the room they are in through their banter, wit, and physical chemistry. There is so much emotion here that you know their attraction has been since forever, but was stalled because of a touch of the forbidden. With a great She's the grump and He's the sunshine twist, this book about returning home to find love and reconnect with what is really important will have you laughing out loud throughout the book as they try to deny the atraction and blunder their way to love in the most humorous way!.

A romance actor (sean )goes back to his small hometown to visit his friends and family for a few months and while there he struggles with his romantic feelings towards his best friends sister (jessica). Jessica and Sean grew up together and both have mutual feelings for each other but they both are trying to ignore them and they are both oblivious to each others actual feelings. Sean is the gushy romantic actor and Jessica is the sarcastic smart mouthed thriller author, so they seem to be way to different to work together right? To try and squash those feelings Sean has an idea to set up Jessica with a perfect boyfriend even though Jessica is very adamant that she is just fine on her own.

I really enjoyed this book, it was written in both Jessica and Seans POV which broke it up nice with the 2 very different personalities. I found it to be very well written and I loved the 2 characters chemistry throughout the book.
It could have been a bit shorter, It seemed to drag on a little bit with the repetitive behavior and banter between Sean and Jessica but It was still a great read regardless. Great book to start off the summer!

Excellent audio version of this book.

This novel is a delightful, heartwarming romance that blends tension and charm in a perfect recipe for a lighthearted read.

The reverse grumpy-sunshine dynamic is refreshing, as Jessica’s prickly demeanour pairs well with Sean’s relentless optimism.

Their banter is sharp and full of tension, keeping readers invested as they navigate the transition from frenemies to something more.

The characters are well-developed, with Sean’s playful teasing and Jessica’s stubborn independence creating a dynamic that is both relatable and endearing.

Secondary characters, like Jessica’s meddling family and best friend Evie, add depth, though at times, their involvement can feel overbearing.

The writing is crisp and vivid, making it easy to visualise the small-town charm and emotional nuance.

The story should give us more information about Sean and Jessica’s past to better understand their bond or lack thereof.

Overall, this clean, slow-burn romance is a charming escape, perfect for fans of sweet, witty love stories.

Tropes:
Best Friends Brother/Sister
Movie Star
Small Town
Writer
Friends to Lovers
Fake Dating

Meet Sean and Jessica in this "kisses only" book. Sean is a Hollywood sweetheart who needs a media break from his celebrity life. When his agent says he needs time out of the spotlight, the calls up his BFF and decides to spend the next few weeks in his home town. Once there, his first stop is to his sister's shop, Bake My Day, where he surprises his sister and her BFF, Jessica. Sparks fly with their barbing of one another and a plot to enhance Jessica's dating life is hatched.

I loved watching Sean discover how much he loved Jessica. He knew there were un-familiar feelings there, but didn't know what they were exactly. The story building up to him realizing that he loved her was great. Sub-characters are plotting their own stories and I am so there for them!

Thank you for the eCopy, this is my honest opinion.
