Black Bear Clan Boxset Review
With the first 3 books now in a box set, I’m going to copy/paste my individual reviews into one big post!
💚Book 1: Her Orc King💚
I recently read Her Orc King. This is the first in a new trilogy called the Black Bear Clan. It seems each book will be centered around an orc and his new mate. This first one is all about King Gorvor and his unexpected mate of a human named Dawn. I give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dawn is auctioned off and sold to a pack of orcs. They hope someone will bond with her, they just never expected it to be the king! Not only is the FMC a tough as nails woman who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, the MMC is determined to be a gentleman and let love grow between them. Watching their relationship grow leaves you wanting more! And of course the spice is phenomenal!
What’s even better is the world that is built up around them throughout the story. You learn all about their clan and the issues their kingdom is trying to fight. You’re also introduced to some wide characters who become fast favorites!
I can’t wait for books 2 and 3 to come out!

💚Book 2: Her Orc Guardian💚
The second installment of the Black Bear Clan came out and I jumped on it so fast! Her Orc Guardian was just as good as the first and was so steamy! I give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
After her father’s death, Poppy sets out to find his best friend who can supposedly help her find her way in life. It’s better than staying home with her evil stepmother. Hungry and delirious in the woods, she stumbles upon a camp and steals some of their food. This camp belongs to a couple of orcs, and one of them happens to be the man she was looking for. Her father never mentioned that Steagor was an orc.
After reading her fathers letter, Steagor appoints himself as her guardian and her as his ward. He feels duty bound to protect her and find her a husband… until he scents her as his mate.
Poppy starts to feel the pull towards him and falls head over heels, while Steagor tries his hardest to resist. Poppy, for once in her life, takes control of her fate and stands her ground to be his. While Steagor finally realizes that he deserves happiness. HEA ❤️
I loved this next installment! Poppy taking control of her life was so inspiring! While her father loved her, he did not teach her anything about the real world or how to navigate it… essentially leaving her clueless.
And Steagor has been through so much in his life. He’s the only one left in his family and never felt like he deserved a mate, much less a family. I’m so happy that he opened up to Poppy and let her love him. My favorite line from him was:
“I have waited my entire life to claim a mate. But I never knew how much I needed to be claimed in return.”
Finally, the spice was exquisite 🌶️. If you’re a fan of knotting, this is the series for you 😏. Tropes include: age gap, first time, monster/human, fated mates, scenting, knotting, breeding.

💚Book 3: Her Orc Warrior💚
The third installment of the Black Bear Clan book series is out and I’m once again blown away. I think this is the best book in the series so far! Her Orc Warrior is amazingly sweet and spicy! I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars!
Our heroine in this book is Hazel. She’s trying to get away from the gang that owns her life by stowing herself and her daughter away on a cart to get out of the city. She doesn’t realize the cart they’re hiding in belongs to the orcs and that Vark is the driver. Vark finds them and instead of turning them over to the authorities, helps them to escape. One look and smell of Hazel has him realizing she’s his fated mate.
Hazel is very nervous around the orcs, even though her daughter Wren seems to love them! Vark tells her about the fated mate thing which only freaks her out more. Hazel tries to pull her weight by helping around camp and Vark starts to teach her how to fight so she can feel more secure about keeping herself and her daughter safe. This helps them grow closer.
Over the course of the journey, Hazel realizes how much she cares about Vark and how amazing he is to her and Wren. Vark learns to accept Hazel’s love even though he doesn’t feel worthy of it.
These two are my favorite characters 🥰. I’ve been in love with Vark since book 1 and I’m SO HAPPY he got his mate. He didn’t feel worthy of being a warrior and even less worthy of finding a mate. I love how much Hazel pulls him out of that. She shows him he’s still worthy of everything, including being loved. And Vark shows Hazel that she’s not alone in this world.
Zoe always delivers on the spice! The river scene!!! Vark showing Hazel what he has to offer… my lord 😮💨😮💨😮💨. And of course their romp in the hay loft is absolutely tender and amazing. They work so well together! ❤️

I love this series and I adore a box set because it makes binge reading so much easier! My reviews from when I first read these stories are below, and they were just as enjoyable as a reread!
Her Orc King - 4.5 stars.
Dawn, the female human lead, has been sold as a slave to orcs. When she arrives at their village, she is shocked to find they treat her with respect. Then the king, Gorvor, the male lead, claims her as his mate! She’s worried he will force a physical relationship but he’s determined she will ask for that. They start to build a relationship but Dawn is sure he’s holding something back…
This story is female lead POV, well written, and a great start to a new series. I enjoyed the character descriptions of both lead and secondary characters - there’s so many I hope to see stories for! I enjoyed Dawn’s personality and the fact that she could recognise her own weaknesses and push past them in her search for the truth. I adored Gorvor’s gentleness and back story. I enjoyed the intimate scenes and Dawn’s adjustment from the very rigid, restricted human culture to the more relaxed orc culture. I prefer dual POV but admit that this story just flowed and was such an engaging read as written. I’m waiting on tenterhooks for more from this world.
Her Orc Guardian - 5 stars
Poppy, the female human lead, is desperate to find the guardian her father told her he assigned since her stepmother has taken absolutely all her father’s property on his death. With only a name and a letter, she’s looking for Steagor, the male orc lead, though she doesn’t know he’s an orc. When she stumbles upon him, she’s shocked, and even more shocked to find the letter her father wrote tells him to find her a husband. She doesn’t want any husband but certainly not anyone other than Steagor but he’s convinced he’s too old and scarred for her…
This story is female lead POV, well written, and a great age gap human/orc romance. I enjoyed Poppy’s determination and resilience, her willingness to fight for her own life and opportunities. I enjoyed Steagor’s willingness to do what was asked of him, even when it didn’t suit his preferences. I appreciated his self-sacrifice. I enjoyed the intimate scenes and the character and relationship development. I appreciated the secondary character integration, with previous and future characters entwined and the focus on chosen family. I also genuinely appreciated the recognition that Poppy’s father could be a decent human being without having done the best for her. I do prefer dual POV but this is a great story regardless.
Her Orc Warrior - 5 stars
Hazel, the female human lead, is smuggling her adopted daughter, Wren, out of the town where she’s been part of a gang of thieves because the leader is determined to make Wren join in. The cart she’s stowing away in belongs to Vark, the male orc lead. Vark and his companions are getting supplies for their orc people and their senses are better than humans; he knows almost immediately he’s got company and that Hazel is his true mate. But he is scarred from previous battles and doesn’t feel he deserves a mate, where Hazel is certain males can’t be trusted and that she doesn’t want to go near him. But travel forces proximity and her daughter does love him… and then there’s the gang leader she’s escaping from…
This story is female lead POV, well written and edited, and a great addition to the series. Vark has been a secondary character in previous stories, where he was originally damaged - reading those stories enhances this one but this story still stands alone. I enjoyed Hazel’s determination to save this child she had raised from birth and her grudging acceptance that help would be ideal and sometimes necessary. I was amused by Vark’s struggle to accept the existence of his mate and his own protective instincts. I enjoyed their developing relationship and Wren’s real involvement in their lives as more than a peripheral character. I enjoyed the secondary character integration and the individual character development, especially having watched Vark over the previous stories. I enjoyed their intimate scenes and the gradual building of trust, as well as the happiness of the ending, free from past encumbrances and ready for new challenges.

Collection of the first three books in the Black Bear Clan series featuring orcs who fated their fated mates with human women. Great to have the books together - makes for a richer reading experience to read the stories in order, as there are overarching storylines and returning characters.
Her Orc King:
Dawn (h) is sold at a slave auction to a band of orcs and taken to their remote kingdom as a potential orc mate. Gorvor (H), the orc king, is surprised when he scents Dawn as his mate. He can't let her go even as she struggles against her new life among the orcs which is nothing like she had believed it would be. Gorvor is exceedingly patient and kind to Dawn as he tries to help her see what they can have together. Ultra-hot and steamy sexy action throughout with size difference and knotting. Action and adventure threats drive story forward for Gorvor and Dawn to reach their HEA. Loved this hot and steamy fated mates orc romance.
Her Orc Guardian:
After her father's death, Poppy (h)is forced to flee to a neighboring kingdom and seek out his best friend, Steagor (H). She's surprised when she finds out that Steagor and the neighboring kingdom are orcs and that he's been entrusted with Poppy's future, including finding her a husband. Poppy finds herself drawn to Steagor even as he seems to run hot and cold with her - possessive and attracted to her at times and bent on keeping her away from him at other times. But fated mates will find a way and when Steagor and Poppy come together there's plenty of ultra-hot and steamy sexy action with size difference and knotting. Lovely hot and steamy fated mates orc romance.

Due to her past, Hazel struggles to trust anyone, much less orcs, though as she gets to know Vark, Hazel realizes he'll do anything to protect her and Wren. Plenty of ultra-hot and steamy sexy action with size difference and knotting. Loved this hot and steamy fated mates orc romance.

Trigger Warning: Parental abuse & neglect, extreme poverty, slavery, sexual slavery, violence and physical assault of women and children. None of which is extremely graphic.
Do not get confused (like I did). This is not a bear shifter book. It IS however a spicy and sweet paranormal ORC book. I like Orcs. They're protective, loyal, fierce and determined. In this box set, which contains Her Orc King, Her Orc Guardian and Her Orc Warrior, you will be drawn into a world where Orcs are not the monsters most people think they are, but rather protectors of humans that have been abused and mistreated by society.
The detail and emotional depth of the characters drew me in quickly. The spice is there but for me, it is the longing and sexual chemistry between the characters that drew me in and kept me going. The plot and relationships between our MCs and side characters is also well written and has me looking forward to several characters stories hopefully coming in the near future. When an author can make me want to know what else is going to happen or needing to learn more about smaller characters then that series is definitely going into my "Series to follow" tbr list. Guarantee I will be on the lookout for more stories of this clan.

Spicy Monster Romances With A Happy Ever After
This box set contains the first three books of what is, in my opinion, one of the best series of monster romance novels available. The books can be read as stand alone novels but I would recommend reading them in order.
These stories are set in a fantasy world of Orcs and humans. There are descriptive scenes of a sexual nature between consenting adults. The worldbuilding is great and the characters are relatable.
Zoe Ashwood has an appealing writing style—it’s easy to get lost in her books. Each story is filled with all the things you want in a romance novel; a determined and independent FMC, a large (very large) cinnamon roll Orc male, a little conflict, a little danger along the way, a lot of spice, and a happy ever after. The stories are entertaining and the spicy parts are well written and detailed.
If hot monster romance is your thing, you can’t go wrong with this series.

Her Orc King - This orc romance is absolutely the best! Loved it! I've read orc romances before, and loved them.. but this has been my favorite one! Very spicy and sweet, with an inventive storyline. And romantic.. who would think an orc could be romantic? This one definitely is!
Her Orc Guardian - Fantastic story! I really loved it! Wonderful chemistry and steamy hot romance.. This orc is a big sweet grump... fiercely protective and honorable.. Can't wait for more stories!
Her Orc Warrior - Vark and Hazel. What a wonderful couple! I'm so happy to see Vark find his way again, and to learn more about him.. Love their meeting, and their courtship. A really excellent story.. with lots of zing and adventure..

This was quite an exciting set of stories and I love that they're all fated mates romances. Each book is about a different couple with all the trials and tribulations of two different cultures coming together. The love is there, but so is the danger, mystery, ignorance, action, humour and fab chemistry. I have these books individually but love that the first three are now together in a set for binge reading fun :D

But they also listen and support and encourage their mates to find their own path and fulfillment. They really are just perfect.

I'm a huge fan of Zoe's books and I adore box sets because I like to binge read series! The Black Bear Clan books feature orcs who have human fated mates... and if you love fated mates, you really need to read these books because Ashwood knows how to create chemistry between these couples. Stellar story telling, amazing world building, and steamy romance. 10/10 would recommend!

I loved the books in this collection and the cover, too. These are the first three books in the series, and I enjoy rereading them.
I discovered the author in the story Her Orc Husband, which is part of another series and couldn't get enough of her orc tales. Thanks to KU, I could read all the books in the series and continued hoping that there would be more stories in this series.

Love this series. Decided to physically reread it! There’s the first three books and I can’t wait to get the second book that has the next 3!!!

I recommend if you want something cute and where there’s a lot of obsession and love but they dont want to take the choice away from the fmcs! They are equals!!!

I just love this series and the boxset made doing a reread of it so much easier and more convenient!
This series is full of big, protective, loving orcs and their fated fiesty human mates!! If you haven’t already read this story this is a great way to read it.

I enjoyed these three Black Bear Clan books. I can't wait to read more. There's action, adventure, secrets revealed and lots of romance. And it's happening between human females and Orcs. They all get a HEA in the end.
