Η ψυχική κατάσταση των ηρώων, ενισχυμένη από τις λεπτομερείς περιγραφές του περιβάλλοντος τοπίου, φυσικού ή αστικού, αποδίδεται άλλοτε με σαρκασμό και άλλοτε με οδύνη, πάντοτε όμως με καθαρή και διεισδυτική ματιά.

Alexander Grin or Green is the pen name of Aleksandr Stepanovich Grinevskiĭ (Russian: Александр Степанович Грин (настоящее имя — Алексaндр Степaнович Гринeвский)), August 23, 1880 – July 8, 1932) , a Russian writer, notable for his romantic novels and short stories, mostly set in an unnamed fantasy land with a European or Latin American flavor. He was a sailor, gold miner and construction worker, but generally lived a life of a vagabond.

This was pretty disappointing. The title really Intruiged me, but I can't say the same for the actual book. It's a collection of a few short stories, only the last of which kinda appealed to me. Grin was clearly a master of language. Even translated, his use of words is amazing and he's able to create beautiful sentences. Unfortunately, besides my admiration of his linguistic prowess, I didn't care for his stories at all. I don't necessarily blame him for that, maybe these stories are just not for me, but they all failed to capture my interest. So, even though I was amazed by how beautifully written these short stories were, I couldn't wait to finish them.
