Marrying my best friend for money without revealing my hidden feelings for him…How hard could it be?

Everything was going great until my life fell apart. One minute, I had a great internship, I was accomplishing my dream of becoming a storm chaser, and I was happy.

But in one single day, I became jobless, homeless, and deeply in debt, my life stuttering to a crashing halt.

Forced to head home to Meridel, proverbial tail tucked between my legs, things only got worse when I ran into my best friend, Liam—err, ex-best friend.

We’d been friends since we were kids, up until he moved away two years ago to chase his own dream of being a famous country music singer, effectively cutting me out of his life for good.

But now he’s back, and to top it off, his manager has created a harebrained scheme to improve his new bad boy image—marrying me.

If it weren’t for the money promised to me in exchange, I never would have agreed, especially when I’d been hiding the fact that I'd been in love with Liam for years.

But now, I have to marry my best friend, live in close quarters with him, and help him fix his reputation, all while keeping my feelings hidden?

Should be a piece of cake. Right?

“What does your tattoo mean?”
“It’s a story of us, (...) I wanted something that reminded me of home, and all I could think of was you.”
↪ plot:

Liam, Emma's childhood best friend and the one she's been terribly in love with since forever, has built a messy reputation over his last two years in California as a rising country singer. So he gets sent back home and his manager finds the perfect way to save his career after seeing him and Emma together: a marriage of convenience. Now they'll be pushed into situations they've never been in before and realize that maybe they were destined to be more than friends all along.

↪ thoughts:

1. This is what I wanted 'Picking Daisies on Sundays' to be (that's why you saw me updating my review of it) with they way it handled the FMC being "unrequitedly" in love with the MMC. It had dual POVs, incredibly silly and oblivious but kinda endearing thoughts, and the MCs slowly realizing they're deeper in than they thought: 😁👍🏼

2. We got some scenes of them together before he realized his feelings for her but I feel we could've gotten more. For some reason, their first scenes after him acknowledging his feelings felt very awkward: 😬👎🏼

3. It was super cool to read about a storm chaser FMC, especially with my newest obsession with 'Twisters' (2024): 😁👍🏼

4. But it's 2024, why was it enfaziced multiple times that she's not like the other girls, isn't gonna throw herself at him, and doesn't care about things like skin-tight dresses or eating as little as possible? Like, I got the point but there was definitely another way to say it: 😬👎🏼

5. The cover is super cute, fits perfectly with them, and they have some very cute moments and lines ―even at their kinda awkward fake wedding: 😁👍🏼

6. There's this one bit in the epilogue that says: “over the past year we decided to truly date each other and find out who we were as lovers instead of just friends” , and I wished we would've seen that. I thought that they were cute, like I do with any other childhood-friends-to-lovers couple, but there was no spark. I no have big feelings over them, they're kinda cute and that's it: 😬👎🏼

I squealed in joy when I saw I had received an arc for the final book in my favorite rom-com trilogy.
Emily Schneider truly deserves her title as my favorite rom-com author.
Though I liked The Heart Shot and The Mistletoe Bluff more than The Love Chase, it was still an amazing reading experience.
I needed some time to get attached to Liam and Emma. Different to Elsie and Jameson and Maya and Oliver these two already had a long past and it took a while to get to know more about them and their relationship because of it.
This was the first marriage of convenience book I read and I was a little hesitant about it at first but Emily executed it greatly and it made things very interesting.
I had never heard about storm chasers before and that paired with a country star made for a unique combination.
The Love Chase being the last story added an underlying feeling of sadness to the reading experience. I'll miss these characters, their relationships and amazing banter.
Though the three books are technically standalone stories, I'd recommend reading them in order anyway. There are a lot of inside jokes and backstory you miss out on with the cameos certain characters have.

I absolutely devoured this book! It was so sweet and felt so deep. I loved how the story made severe weather out to be beautiful things despite how scary they are. As a girl who loves thunderstorms and rainy days, I loved that! This book had me giggling and smiling and even tearing up at times. It kind of reminded me if the movie Forever My Girl, but I didn't mind that because this was such a captivating and fresh story. Emily Schneider never disappoints with her beautiful stories! If you're looking for a sweet, clean, beautiful book about a two best friends, one a storm chaser and one a country singer, falling in love, go read this book!!

The only thing I have to note is Liam's family being neglecting toward him and not caring about him because he is the youngest in a large family. Coming from a large family myself, I would have loved to see large families put in a positive light because we are often painted in a picture like that, but I understand that not all large families are the same and I still absolutely loved the story regardless.

4.5/5 Stars - A lovely close to the Meridel Trilogy

I am absolutely in love with Emily Schneider's romantic comedies. They are so cute and manage to both be clean and SUPER compelling. I always get invested with the main couple, and, in this case, that couple was Emma and Liam: a financially struggling storm chaser and a county music bad boy trying to fix his reputation. The two were best friends before Liam left to pursue a career in music, but his move caused a bit of an unspoken fallout between them. Naturally, this makes things quite interesting when Emma is wrapped up in Liam's manager's plan to have him get married to save his image...

I often have trouble enjoying second-chance romances and friends-to-lovers rom-coms because I feel like so much of the buildup happens before the book begins. That was NOT the case with The Love Chase. The distance caused by Liam's move made things really interesting as the two attempted to rekindle their relationship. There's a lot of tension between the two that quickly shifts from angry to romantic.

I ate up every bit of this book. I was already super invested, but when the marriage deal was struck, I was sucked in completely. It's almost like friends-to-enemies(kinda)-to-lovers-via-forced-proximity. It's so fun, and if you're a fan of romantic comedies (or looking to try out the genre), I'd highly recommend checking out The Love Chase and the rest of the Sweet Meridel Romances.

this book was fun! it was a simple story with simple characters and an easy premice. the cover is GORGEOUS. in my opinion, there wasn't anything remarkable about this story. the characters felt fairly bland for the most part, and i didn't feel invested enough in their story. i loved liam and emma's dynamic together. i wasn't a fan of the lack of communication being a main plot point, and i disliked the volume of repetition. they repeatedly mentioned that they were 'best friends since childhood', which was made very clear in the beginning of the book, so i don't know why it was reiterated so many times afterward. the other supporting characters were barely mentioned, which lead me to forget about them as a whole and not really care about their story (lowkey skimmed those boring parts along with others lol). other than that, fun, easy to read (read in one sitting).

This lived up to all my internal hype! Once I sat down to read it, I didn’t stop til it was done. It’s a quick read but packed with all the emotions! My heart felt like it was in my throat most of the book, just wanting them to confess their feelings already! Between the pining on Emma’s side and the newly awakening feelings on Liam’s side, it made for the best tension and build up! Small town, country singer, storm chaser, marriage of convenience, best friends to lovers. Literally so many of my favorite things, along with no third act break up made it a very low stress book that I’m looking forward to putting in my re-reading rotation! Haha

I am not ready for this series to be over with. I love Emma and Liam’s story. Growing up best friends to falling in love 😍. This sweet romance was perfect! I’m glad that the other characters from the previous two books are still including in this book. I love reading how their lives are going and how they fit into Emma and Liam’s story. I would love more of Emma and Liam when they actually tell each other their feelings but a book has to eventually end and that makes me sad. I feel like I was apart of Meridel and these characters lives. Emily did a wonderful job writing this series and making me as a reader feel like I was there experiencing it all!

As much as I loved the first two of this series, this one might be my favorite. Maybe it's the second chance, or the childhood friends, or the storm chasing.... I loved every minute of it. I read it in a day and I wish I had more of them.

2.5 ⭐⭐ Our female main character is an aspiring storm chaser? Count me in!

What to expect:
🌪️Childhood friends-to-lovers
🌪️Country music star x storm chaser
🌪️Marriage of convenience
🌪️Small town Iowa

Overall, this was a very cute story. Liam and Emma have been friends since they were five years old, having grown up together in the small town of Meridel, Iowa. A quick disclaimer that I haven't read the first two books in this interconnected standalone series, but I didn't feel as though I was missing anything significant. I was able to enjoy the other characters (Elsie, Emma's soon-to-be sister-in-law and Maya, Emma's cousin and best friend) without having read their books.

Two years ago, Liam told Emma he would be leaving Meridel to pursue his dream of becoming a country recording artist in California. Emma, who has been harboring feelings for her best friend, is devastated, but offers support. The two agree to stay in touch, but over time, their communications dwindle out, leaving their friendship in shambles.

When Emma loses her coveted internship--and her only source of income--she finds herself homeless. She decides to move back to Meridel to figure out next steps. Liam on the other hand has garnered a reputation as a bit of a womanizer. To clean up his image, his manager sends him back to Meridel to lay low. The two run into one another and, eventually, Emma is offered financial compensation if she agrees to a "fake marriage" to Liam to help repair his reputation.

She gets a huge pay out to help cover the debt she accrued having purchased expensive storm chasing equipment for the internship she's now lost and Liam will look like he's settled down; the hope is that it'll deconstruct the womanizer narrative in the tabloids.

Now though the story was cute, I did find the pacing a bit off for my liking. The marriage of convenience takes place . I was surprised because prior to this our MCs had barely exchanged more than a few words--angry words at that. Emma feels abandoned by Liam and he feels guilty over having allowed them to go so long without speaking. Once the marriage happened, I found myself wondering where the real obstacles were.

Spoilers ahead...

An absolute sweet book from start to finish.
I loved Emily’s take on the friends to lovers trope. I had no idea how the marriage of convenience would work but I found myself absolutely enjoying the dynamic. It was sweet, it was sad, and it pulled my heart strings.
If you’re looking for a sweet romance , with swoon worthy moments, and laugh out loud comedy then this book is for you. I’ve loved every one of Emily’s books and I’m grateful to enjoy a romance without the spice.
Her work is clever, unique, and fresh and this one is no exception.

QOTD: What is your favorite book trope?

“The Love Chase” by Emily Schneider (Spoiler Free Review 💕)

Synopsis: Emma and Liam have been best friends their entire lives. They tell each other everything. However, Emma hasn’t told Liam how she feels yet. When Liam is whisked away to LA to pursue a music career, it seems like she never will. Two years later, Liam returns and Emma wants nothing to do with him. That is until she loses her internship, gets kicked out of her apartment, and has a huge amount of debt. All she has to do to solve her problems is marry her best friend, Liam. It won’t be that hard to keep her feelings hidden, right? Right?!?

Thoughts: I was given an ARC of “The Love Chase,” via ebook for an honest review. I purchased a physical copy of the book as well. “The Love Chase” is available for pre-order and comes out July 8th.

This story started slow, but about the halfway point, it became increasingly harder to put down! I always enjoy a good “marriage of convenience” trope. My favorite part is the setup, and how the characters realize their love for one another. This book did not disappoint. There were so many moments I found myself squealing with delight because of these characters. Both characters want to protect their hearts, but also each other. It made my heart feel all warm and fuzzy.

It was so interesting learning about Emma’s passion for storm chasing. I love reading on a rainy day, but would never consider running into a storm to take a picture of a tornado!

I wish there were more books in this series. I loved meeting Liam and Emma, but wish we had more time with the other characters in Meridel. Overall, I did enjoy this book and can't wait to recommend it to my friends.

If you like friends to lovers, marriage of convenience, closed-door romances, and caring characters, I recommend this book to you!

AOTD: The marriage of convenience is my favorite trope. The crazier the reason they have to get married, the better. I love the buildup as both characters realize they love each other.

The Love Chase by Emily Schneider -eARC provided by Author!

This book is the third installment in the Sweet Meridel Romance series! Dont' fret, you can read them all as stand alones, but I suggest you read them all at some point. It's a heartfelt story that captures the essence of love, friendship, and self-discovery. This book kept me engaged and emotionally invested from start to finish.

The protagonist finds herself at a crossroads when her life takes an unexpected turn. Once a promising storm chaser with a great internship, she suddenly becomes jobless, homeless, and in deep debt. Forced to return to her hometown of Meridel, she encounters her childhood best friend, Liam, who had cut ties with her two years earlier to pursue his dream of becoming a famous country music singer.

Liam's return brings a twist: his manager proposes a fake marriage to help clean up his bad boy image. Despite the protagonist's long-hidden feelings for Liam, she agrees to the plan due to the financial benefits it offers. What ensues is a rollercoaster of emotions as they navigate their fake marriage, live together, and try to restore Liam's reputation, all while she keeps her true feelings hidden.

Schneider skillfully explores the complexities of friendship, unrequited love, and the sacrifices one makes for those they care about. The characters are well-developed, with the protagonist's journey of self-discovery being particularly compelling. Her resilience and determination to overcome her challenges make her a relatable and inspiring character.

Liam's character adds depth to the story as well. His struggle with fame, personal growth, and reconciling his past actions with his present circumstances is portrayed realistically and sensitively. The chemistry between the protagonist and Liam is palpable, making their interactions both heartwarming and poignant.

The small-town setting of Meridel adds charm to the story, with Schneider's vivid descriptions bringing the town and its inhabitants to life. The supporting characters, from family members to old friends, enrich the narrative and provide a sense of community and belonging.

One of the standout elements of the book, is its ability to balance humor, romance, and deeper emotional moments. The fake marriage trope is handled with a fresh perspective, and the inevitable complications that arise from such an arrangement are depicted with both wit and sincerity.

The climax of the story, where true feelings are revealed, is both satisfying and emotionally charged, and will leave you swooning! Schneider wraps up the story beautifully, providing a happy ending that feels well-earned and true to the characters' journeys.

In conclusion, this is an amazing addition to the Sweet Meridel Romance series. Emily Schneider has crafted a story that is as touching as it is entertaining, making it a must-read for fans of romance and contemporary fiction. The themes of self-discovery, friendship, and love are expertly woven into a narrative that will leave readers smiling long after they turn the last page.

This novel is a romcom that portrays two best friends that get in involve in fake-marriage. And it is the final installment of the Meridel Romance series.

Emma Beck and Liam Walker are the main characters of this love story. Emma and Liam have been best friends since the age of 5. Two years ago, Liam move to L.A. to follow his dream of becoming a singer. Emma is a recent graduate as a meteorologist, who loves chasing storms and just recently lost her internship and sole income. Emma finds herself in debt, homeless and jobless, and bas to return to Meridel. Liam Walker is a famous country singer, who recently has gotten the fame of being a bad boy and is need of improving his reputation. Liam’s manager send him back to Meridek to lay low until this situation wears off. His manager comes into town and meets Emma, and suddenly comes uo with this elaborate scheme for marrying Emma and Liam. Emma accepts so she can gain financial stability and help her best friend. Because nothing can go wrong, marrying your best friend, who you secretly have been in love with, can’t be that hard, right?

Emily Schneider sets the story in such a witty, funny, lovely way that it keeps you hooked to each page and pinning for Emma and Liam to finally accept they are meant for each together.

Throught the story, Liam and Emma have to face their fears, insecurities and built in walls that prevent them from accepting their love for each other and taking a risk for love. Schneider weaves into the story relatable life situations, such as facing your fears and insecurities, that both characters have to face.

A friend to lovers’ story filled with amazing humor, witty remarks, storm chasing and friendship. (Bonus experience for getting cameos from the characters of the other books in the series). A perfect read for this summer season!

Thank you to Emily Schneider for this lovely story and for the ARC

I got to read this ARC while traveling on a plane today!

I have loved this series and this author since book 1. Emily does a great job of creating tension without spice which I LOVE. I am always looking for clean/closed door romances but sometimes they lack the tension/attraction between the love interests. She does a great job managing that tension.

This story had my favorite trope: marriage of convenience and I really enjoyed how this one played out! I think we got to see a unique perspective into the friends to lovers trope/timeline as well. While everyone around Liam couldn’t understand how he never saw Emma in a relationship way it was nice getting to see his perspective. He didn’t allow himself to previously and we got to see his eyes be opened as he began to see herself in that way. While reading this book I kept messaging Emily about different songs that came to mind until I just made a playlist. I really kept thinking of Invisible String and You are In Love by Taylor Swift!

I hope there are more books in this series or Emily has another series in mind 👀 I liked seeing the characters from the others books in this one and getting to see how their stories have progressed as well in this series.

You’ll love this book if you like:

🚪 closed door/clean Romance with tension

The Love Chase is the third book in the Sweet Meridel Romance series. While you'll see some familiar characters make appearances, this could definitely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

Liam and Emma absolutely won my heart! This was such a sweet friends-to-lovers story that I found myself drawn into right away. One of the things that I really love about this trope is that there is such a great foundation and history there to build upon and that's definitely the case with these two. I just adored them together. The chemistry was absolutely fantastic! Marriage of convenience also happens to be a favorite of mine, so of course, that made it all that much better... I loved all those 'my wife' moments and when he takes care of and defends her? Oh my goodness! I couldn't get enough. I was admittedly a little apprehensive on how I would handle the storm aspect of the story (the FMC is a storm chaser) as I actually have a pretty intense phobia of storms (and particularly tornadoes), but while there are several weather references throughout, there is only one actual storm chasing scene and it wasn't intense at all. I actually surprisingly really enjoyed it and Liam's reactions. I truly loved every minute of this sweet romance!

The Love Chase is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

What a wild ride!

I've read everything by Emily Schneider, and this novel has been the absolute highlight thus far. Each new book reaches new heights, and her writing has developed into deeper, richer character-driven stories.

I found myself connecting with the characters on a deep level. The story was so sweet with deep-rooted emotion that it was hard to put down. It was very much like watching two of your best friends growing to realize they cared more for each other, and enjoying the ride for them. Characters from previous books were tied in, making a welcomed reappearance but not a necessary one. I think this story would have held without bringing in Maya so much, but I understand why she played an important role to Emma, and Jameson you can't escape since he's Emma's brother.

The idea of a "marriage of convenience" was a little stretched for me, though, Emily made it seem a bit more plausible that other novels I've read with this theme. It played out warmly and convincingly, giving Emma the closeness she desired while we also got to see the protective side of Liam. I spent most of the book wanting to bop both Liam and Emma on the head, telling them to just spill their feelings. The tension was wonderful and the pacing perfect for these childhood friends to lovers. I wish there was more and i'd love to see what the future holds

*I received an e-arc for my honest review

Emma loves two things - storm chasing and her best friend Liam. He left two years ago though, and the once strong relationship the two shared has completely fizzled. Having earned her meteorology degree, at least Emma still has storm chasing...until she loses her internship anyway. Financially strapped, there's only one thing left for Emma to do. Sign a contract to marry Liam to help erase the bad boy persona the now famous country singer has acquired. Nothing could possibly go wrong! Right?

Except everything did go wrong. Y'all, I really wanted to enjoy this book. I read one of Emily's books last year and enjoyed it, so I was really hoping to enjoy this one too. I was really excited about Emma being a storm chaser what with all of the Twisters craze this summer and my own fascination with storm chasing. They kept throwing around Emma's love for storm chasing, but when push came to shove, it just wasn't a prominent part of the book.

I also found there to be some issues with the pacing. The whole book just felt really rushed, and the characters also felt really underdeveloped.

This book doesn't have any spice, but it was still a little bit on the steamier side compared to what I prefer.

In the end, I still decided to give this book three stars because it kept me entertained at the very least.

Emily Schneider does it again! This swoon worthy rom-com had me staying up into the early hours to finish.

The Love Chase contained a couple of my favorite tropes: forced proximity and marriage of convenience. I didn’t use to be a fan of friends-to-lovers, but this story easily changed my mind. I couldn’t get enough!

Liam heads to California to pursue his dreams of being a country star, but in doing so he leaves his hometown, and his best friend behind. They’ve lost touch over the years, and when Liam is sent back to his home town, he looks forward to see his best friend… who isn’t as happy to see him as he thought.

I loved how they’re relationship bounced around and the many layers that went into (re)building their relationship. Nothing like a “fake” marriage to bring a couple together:)

I can't gush enough about this book. It has all my favorite tropes in one book, but it's more than that; it's the heart of the story that I love. Learning to love people for who they are now, not who you knew them to be.

Emma's growth of overcoming her hurt and pursuing her passions through it all was encouraging and Liam looking around him when his whole world was falling apart to see what he had was stunning. It still holds the same heart and humor of the previous two in the Meridel series, but this one was a bit heavier, the characters had more hurt and history between them that they had to work through. It was cathartic to read over and over.

I will never stop recommending this series, but this one takes the cake (the wedding cake, to be specific).

I have such a soft spot for MN authors! So I was so happy to read Emily’s new book! Just like the others in the series this was SO sweet! I loved seeing everyone from the other books again, I love how connected they are. This small town is so sweet. This was fast paced and a quick read but Emily was able to pack so much heart into it!!

Liam just wanted to be seen, but he never saw the one person who loved him the most even though she was right in front of him for their whole lives!! Liam and Emma were such a whirlwind!! They went from not speaking to fake married to finally confessing their feelings so quick! It made sense for them because nice they were back together everything just fell into place!!

I can’t wait to see what’s next from Emily!!

✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨

The Love Chase by Emily Schneider

STAR RATING: 5/5⭐️

Review:
The final installment in Emily Schneider’s RomCom series based out of a made up town in Iowa has stolen my heart once more. Emily writes such wonderful, sweet, hilarious, down-to-earth and easy to connect with characters that these love stories always have my tearing up and chuckling. Even laughing out loud, too. These stories are so light hearted, and I adored Emma and Liam! Here’s to their happy love and life.

Favorite quote:
“After everything, Emma had sacrificed for me, I would stop at nothing to make her happy, to help her own dreams come true. Because Emma deserved the world. And I would do my darndest to give it to her.”

I was so upset with myself when I missed the opportunity to read this as an ARC. I've really enjoyed this series, and I am a huge weather geek. A female storm chaser appealed to me so much! I was dying to read it. My problem with actual reading is that I don't have much time. I listen to most of my TBR books and make time for the ARCs. All that to say that I purchaed this when it came out and finally found time to read it.

I enjoyed it. It has one of my most favorite tropes involved. Oh and did I mention storm chasing? Of course I could have used a bit more of that. But that's not what the focus of the book was. Liam and Emma were darling. I had followed the author on Instagram during the challenges she mentions enduring during writing this book. That makes it even more special to me.

I was super excited to read the final book in this series and the story was superb! I loved Emma and Liam’s story and what they had to struggle, face, and power through and this book was a perfect conclusion to this series I am glad I got to dive into! Emily Schneider does not disappoint with her writing and I am also glad she got to finish it, even after all the struggles she had this past year, and it goes to show how dedicated she truly is to being an author! I do look forward to what else she brings out!

I loved this so much. I actually was kinda apprehensive because the Heart Shot was one of my favourite books of last year and sometimes I tend to set myself up for failure in that regard but nope- this was phenomenal. I ADORED it!
Liam and Emma are just so cute and sweet and adorable and I honestly just wanted more of them.
Their relationship is so wholesome and I LOVED that she was a storm chaser- made my little nerd heart so happy!
Basically- I will read whatever the author writes and I love it!

This is the third and final book in the Sweet Miradel series. The Love Chase is about Emma (A Storm Chaser) and her best friend Liam (An up-and-coming country music star).

I love this series. It is just a sweet rom-com in which you can find something in all the characters to relate. I can not relate to some things as someone born and raised in a big city but I understand that people in the mid-west live a vastly different lifestyle. That being said, I usually do not like fake marriages or marriages of convenience BUT I enjoyed it since the characters knew each other and, unbeknownst to one of them **cough cough Liam** were already in love with each other.

This was a nice conclusion to the series, even though I connected less with these characters. The situations felt rushed and exaggerated for my taste. However, it is still a sweet and lovely story!

I'm sad this is the last book set in Meridel.

It was achingly sweet to watch Liam finally get his head screwed on straight and admit what Emma meant to him.

I wish we had more family involvement from Jamison and Maya. Personally I wish there was more either background or proof of current connection that made the conclusion feel more solid. I was left feeling like I vaguely knew who Emma and Liam were.

I loved the 2 other books from this series, and this one as well. I fell in love with Emily's writing as soon as I started the dragon's series, but this light, fun, swoon-worthy novels are also where she shines. I do hope we get more books like this, I did giggle and laugh like a kid when I read it. I can't wait to read whatever she puts out next.

Beautiful story of friends to lovers. I think this shows such a cute story for Liam and Emma! And to see them finally come together and Emma find herself through this story as well even after hardship. Such a precious ending to the Sweet Meridel books ♡
