I’m L.C. Emerson, a Latina author who writes romantic fantasies where love feels like magic and punishment all at once. My stories are full of enemies tangled by fate, forbidden lovers, and the kind of tension that hurts in the best way.

When I’m not writing, you’ll find me sipping blueberry drinks or wandering the city with a new story whispering in my head.

Reading Hears of the Cursed as a beta-reader, is a privilege I would wish upon all fantasy readers. At the moment I am falling short on words to describe the feelings currently coursing through my head, but know that I'll be the first in line to buy Heirs of the Cursed when it is finally out in January 2025.

It has been a while since I've read a fantasy book with a strong protagonist, let along two of them. Where one made me feel seen, the other made me feel empowered. The magic system is unique and leaves you enthralled, longing to read more of it.

L.C. Emerson and Denna Selen have done an oustanding job, and I am incredibly proud of the book they have managed to pierce together.

🩷 Dual POV
🏰 Cursed Kingdom
🩷 Strong FMCs
🏰 LGBTQ Rep
🩷 Betrayal and Sacrifice

I really wanted to love this story, but I feel as though it lacks finesse, and after reading, I'm left with too many questions that I think should've been answered in this first installment. Although it is very readable and I never found myself losing interest despite those perceived flaws.

Darcia and Naithea are lost princesses - two cursed heirs - who were stolen from their confinement and whose freedom is threatening the entire kingdom - unbeknownst to them. My largest issue with this story is that I'm just very confused about the curse altogether. I tried to go back and read, and I tried to understand the connection, but I still don't understand the details about why they are cursed and how their stories are interconnected with the royal family. It could definitely be a me problem, but I feel like this wasn't hashed out enough for comprehension.

The twins also have magical powers, but I don't really understand how that magic works because it conveniently seems to give them more power when needed. Frustratingly, they both pretty much refuse to learn to harness and develop their own powers unless it's convenient for the plot progression.

~

Many elements in the story just don't make sense to me, like:

• Darcia is ruthlessly beaten by her stepbrother, which is a major plot point, and their father has absolutely no idea but lives in the same household, even though she's constantly sporting bruises and whip marks. It mentions that she muffles her own screams so that he won't find out, but it feels unrealistic.

• Naithea is a hetaira who is under the strict rule of Madame Dimond. At the beginning of the story, she can't even leave the brothel for simple errands, but soon she's running through the streets trying to solve the mystery of the lost princesses and training with the dangerous knights who are seeking her and her twin sister. It feels like some minor details are lost or overlooked for the sake of story progression.

• The commanders of the king's army were unbelievably naive for supposedly cutthroat war masters. There was just way too much getting past them.

~

I did love the sex worker representation in this story and how Naithea never lets the world get her down. Both of the protagonists are fiercely loyal and wonderful women, so I really appreciate these strong female characters.

One more point I have is that I think certain readers are going to take issue with a tragedy that occurs in this story, just because of how the story is marketed and how it almost brushes off an important part of one of our protagonists' lives. I think how this particular element of the story carries through will have a lot of impact, but I have a sense of where the direction will go... and I don't like it.

I did really enjoy the writing; the worldbuilding doesn't feel too infodumpy (but again, it also feels too incomplete), and I liked the characters, but overall, there was just too much missing for me to want to continue with this series.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book is an absolute gem and a must-read for fantasy lovers. From the first page, the world-building captivated me—rich, immersive, and brimming with unique magic that felt fresh and exciting.

I’m obsessed with both FMCs. Their journeys are compelling, layered with complexity, and filled with moments that kept me guessing. The tension—especially in the enemies-to-lovers-esque arc—is palpable, and the morally grey characters add just the right amount of intrigue. I also loved seeing strong friendships and LGBTQ+ representation seamlessly woven into the narrative.

Read if you like:

• Fantasy with immersive world-building
• Enemies-to-lovers romance
• Morally grey characters
• Sirens and unique magic systems
• Multiple POVs
• Strong friendships and LGBTQ+ representation

I can’t wait to dive into book two and see where this story takes us next!

The first time I encountered this book was back when only the character art was revealed. I was so intrigued that I looked up the synopsis and was immediately like, "Yep, this is for me."
My top favorite books of all time are the 𝘛𝘸𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘴 series by Katherine Webber and Catherine Doyle, and 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳'𝘴 𝘚𝘯𝘰𝘸 by Carly H. Mannon. Both have the same thing that drew me to them—𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀.👥️✨️
After seeing the synopsis of 𝑯𝒆𝒊𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒅, I realized it was exactly my kind of book.

𝐀𝐑𝐂 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐝

Oh. My. Goddess. THIS BOOK! Where do I even start?
The world of 𝑯𝒆𝒊𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒅 is immense and breathtaking. The map alone had me staring at it like it was treasure. And knowing this is just the first part of a trilogy? I am living for the potential to explore every corner of this beautifully cruel kingdom!

While this book focuses on just two towns—Dawnfall and Bellmare—it never felt small. The authors have masterfully woven a backstory for the kingdoms that’s so rich, so haunting, it felt like I was uncovering centuries of secrets as I read.
The stakes are high and tangible: find the Dark Twins, or the kingdom descends into chaos.
It’s not a story of political scheming; it’s raw, grounded in the suffering of its characters and the cold cruelty of the world they inhabit. And yet, despite the darkness, there’s this glowing thread of hope that refuses to let go.

As an adult book, there were some spice scenes. (I personally am not a fan of a lot of spice in books) But in this case, the scenes that were there felt so natural, like they belonged to the story. They weren’t there just to make it steamy for the sake of being steamy. I really appreciated that.

THE CHARACTERS! I can’t even explain how much I loved them because my heart is just a pile of mushy goo right now.
Darcia and Naithea—two queens in their own right—are some of the most relatable, kind yet strong, and heartbreakingly real protagonists I’ve ever read.
They both sacrifice everything for their loved ones, even when it means suffering deeply themselves. Their stories made me want to sob, laugh, and fight the air for them.

Darcia is a mesmerizing illusionist performing under the control of her stepbrother, Conrad, whose cruelty keeps her trapped in the circus. Despite her harsh reality, she clings fiercely to the family she’s made among the performers. Her world changes when she meets Alasdair Hale, a thief with secrets as deep as the ocean. AND OH MY GOD, their friendship! Their bond is everything. I’m obsessed. No romance here, just this beautifully slow and utterly sincere connection that had me squealing every time they shared a scene. The way they bicker, the way they grow to trust each other—it’s the stuff friendships are made of, and I could read about them forever. Darcia’s relationship with her girlfriend, Caeli, is also so tender and grounding. They’re each other’s rock, grounding each other in a way that makes all the chaos around them bearable.

Naithea, meanwhile, lives a very different life. As the highest-paid hetaira in Bellmare’s infamous brothel, her days and nights are filled with smoke, wealth, and dangerous clients. While the world around her sees only her allure and power, she’s fighting a private battle, weighed down by her debts and haunted by a dark magic she barely understands. She protects her fellow hetairas fiercely, but her life changes forever when she crosses paths with Commander Ward. Their connection starts as a bantering clash of wits, but slowly, something deeper and more complicated emerges. Ward is a man of duty, cold and calculated, but his growing feelings for Naithea challenge everything he believes. Their relationship is full of tension, desire, and impossible choices, and I could not get enough of their scenes.

Even the antagonists and side characters shine. Everyone has a purpose here, and their roles make the story richer and deeper. Every single bond—whether it’s friendship, family, loyalty, or romance—feels so authentic that it broke me in the best possible way.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬

This book. THIS BOOK. It’s everything I dreamed it would be and more. From the moment I saw the concept, I knew it would be something special, but WOW, it exceeded every expectation.
I’m giving it a galaxy of stars because five just isn’t enough! The story, the characters, the bonds—it all left me an emotional wreck (in the best way).

✮ 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 (𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰), 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝑯𝒆𝒊𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴—𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸, 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿, 𝗷𝗼𝘆—𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲.✮

Ne pati geriausia istorija, kurią teko skaityti, bet neblogai. Knyga patraukė savo siužetu, kuris skyriasi nuo visko ką man teko skaityti iki šiol.

Heirs of the Cursed is a beyond incredible fantasy book from Denna Selen and L. C. Emerson! If you are looking for a fantasy book to read in 2025, I would recommend it so much! (my review is spoiler free but if you want to see spoilers just open the spoiler parts up!)

Set in Len Rajya, Heirs of the Cursed follows Darcia and Naithea in Bellmare and Camdenn. LC's and Denna's world building is absolutely amazing, I honestly love how I can really see both Bellmare and Camdenn and how differentiated in my head they are yet they both belong in the same world and also I need to mention the absolutely gorgeous map at the start of the book!! Like many readers, I love having maps at the start of the books I read as they help so much to picture everything.

Mentioning Darcia and Naithea, the characters in HOTC honestly are so realistic and so likeable. I really love how the 3rd person POV that the authors have chosen to use really allows us to see in the characters minds and yet also not feel stuck in them. I love how much we learn about each character and also how their relationships with other characters develop and are portrayed.
I think it's really powerful when a book makes you feel a characters emotions and honestly I could feel their emotions, I also really felt like I knew the characters.
Darcia's character is really interesting - even with everything she's gone through in her life, she is selfless and will always choose others over herself.
The Midnight Thief, has honestly stolen my heart, that fictional man is so funny and always knows what to say but is also such an amazing and reliable friend.
Naithea is also a character who similar to Darcia is selfless and will always protect her heteira sisters above herself.
Commander Ward is also one of my favourite characters, I want to say so much but spoilers! All I'm going to say is morally-grey...

The magic system in this book is just so detailed and I really like the concepts about the different types of magic! The attention to detail in every aspect in this book is amazing, it just adds to the depth of the world LC and Denna have created! Also the authors had so much amazing art commissioned as well as the beautiful cover, supporting so many artists and I just love that!

The pacing of the book was just right, I don't think I was ever bored, I always wanted to continue reading and there were multiple nights where I stayed up till 2am reading, because I couldn't put it down. The plot twists honestly were devastating at points (in a good way) and honestly it was so so good!! Also, despite English not being the author's first language I think that this book was really well written, the writing flows and isn't too heavy on description but still builds everything going on extremely well!

If I had to sum up HOTC as a music album it would have to probably be TTPD by Taylor Swift as to quote 'Fortnight' - "I love you, its ruining my life" - I love this book so much but I need book 2!!

If you liked elements from the Throne of Glass series or Twin Crowns, you'll like this book! Though please note it is a New Adult book and contains explicit sexual content - there is a list of trigger warnings at the beginning.

my journey with HOTC
In October 2023, I somehow came across a post talking about Heirs of the Cursed and how LC and Denna were looking for beta readers. I was intrigued and as someone who had never beta read before thought why not, I'll give it a go as this seems really interesting!
I read the copy and I thought "wow, I've not read anything as unique as this before" and it was a really good read! Then fast forward to May 2024 and I'm on the amazing street team and in November we received our ARCs!! I picked up the ARC with a very vague memory of what happened and wow, it had grown so so so much into such a highly developed story with characters who are just so amazing and realistic and funny! I am so proud of Denna and Leigh and I am beyond grateful that they allowed me to be a part of their journey!! I cannot wait for whatever they have in store for us next! 👀

This was a good start to the series!

Every few chapters we got a little more nugget of information in what exactly is happening. The authors did a great job weaving the two different POVs and building up each of their environments without it being an info dump. That being said, I could still use MORE world building, which I'm sure could come in the next installments.

There were multiple romances in here since there were multiple POVs and they both added to the story and the tension in the end.

I am very intrigued to find out what will happen in future books!

Read if you love:
-Dual POV
-Hidden identities
-Political intrigue
-Reluctant allies
-Lovers to enemies
-Queer rep

Thank you to the authors for the eARC of this book. My thoughts are entirely my own.

OH MY GOODESS!!
IT'S ON GOODREADS.

A little overview about the book:

Heirs Of The Cursed is about two young women; one lives in Dawnfall, the other in Bellmare.

Darcia is an illusionist (how cool is that btw??), living with her father and brother (I hate this boy) and working in the circus of her brother.

Naithea is a whore (sorry, but she is. Respectfully.), working together with other SUPER SWEET AND LOVABLE girls in the brothel of Madame Dimond (bitch).

The king of Ro'i Rājya orders to find the two lost princesses (who are cursed to be turned to stone, but somehow disappeared), after the royal family dies one after another.

So soldiers are brought to the cities of Ro'i Rājya, ordered to find the women and bring them to the king.

Enter: Ward (please let me marry this man.)

He's the commander, stationed in Bellmare and please, PLEASE, if this book gets ever turned into a movie or a show, PLEASE let Tom Blyth play him, oh my goodess.

Another enter: THE FREAKING MIDNIGHT THIEF (have my babies)

There's something we all love about mysterious men, isn't it?

Of course, as suspicious and curious as Darcia and Naithea are, they go to look further into the reason behind the appearance of soldiers in their cities, learning things about the people around them and starting to distrust their surroundings more and more.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

GOSH, I LOVE THIS BOOK.
Literally.
I'd marry it.

I love the portrait of Darcia and Naithea. Two women. Both thinking they can't break free from their life's, because they are bound to their destiny.

Still, the way feminine power and the strength women possess, the determination and the endurance until their goal is reached: this is what is so beautiful about it.

Naithea is a whore, yes. But she loves her body. She's passionate. She's stronger. She's not "just a woman, who's selling her body for a living", but one who's determined to change the nation.

Darcia (my love) isn't the girl, who got abandoned, but a woman, who fights for the people she loves.

The magic, the world, the writing, the characters. It all enchanted me so freaking much.

I love about this story, how I got surprised by plot twists. How I was wrong (and I love to be right, let me tell you this). And how I fell for the characters. The diversity. The way the reality in a fantasy world is as broken as ours.

I read this book as a beta reader, and I can't wait to hold the final version in my hands (guys, you can't imagine what's to come for you)!

Denna and L.C., I LOVE YOU, MY DARLINGS.
I'm proud of you!!
And thank you for writing this. Well, not really, because now I simp over more fictional characters. But thank you for introducing me to a story, that is now special and holds a place in my soul.

What an absolutely fantastic read. I was grateful enough to have been a part of the cover reveal for this book, and I just KNEW it was going to be a good one. This one was so unique, and the stories of our FMC’s were so captivating, not to mention an absolutely wild ride. I loved the concept of reading about both FMC’s lives as it made for a very different read and not to mention super engaging. I am DYING for book 2 as soon as possible now! This is definitely a must-read for fantasy lovers, between the amazing characters to the captivating world building with unique magic systems, it really is a must read.

"𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦, 𝘨𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘰𝘶𝘴. 𝘖𝘳 𝘯𝘰 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘳."

We dive into this world meeting Darcia, an illusionist whilst working in the circus living in Dawnfall, and Naithea, one of the most sought after hetaira’s living in Bellmare. Both doing their best to survive despite current circumstances…. That is until chaos unfolds.

I absolutely LOVED our FMC’s Darcia and Naithea. At first, I felt like I had more of a connection with Naithea, personality and all, but as the story goes on, I felt like I easily connected with them both. Both incredibly complex and unique stories, they were AMAZING and so incredibly fierce despite the situations they found themselves in. Both of our FMC’s felt just so REAL! One of my favorite things when reading is finding relatable characters, and it does not happen often for me, so being able to find that emotional connection to both was just a fantastic feeling. I loved Darcia and Caeli’s relationship so much, it felt so raw and so real.. I adore them both so much. Now, onto probably my favorite MMC ever now, Alasdair. I have to say, HE IS THE MAN! I think by the first sentence we got from him, I was instantly captivated. He was such a flirt and I was absolutely giggling every time he was around. His and Darcia’s friendship felt SOOO pure, and it was so refreshing that their connection did not have to involve any romance but rather supportiveness. And not to mention, the banter between them was unmatched. I already know Alasdair is going to be the absolute ROCK in Darcia’s life, and I will be living for it. WARD… Ward ward ward…. Where do I even begin!! The tension, the angst, THE DESIRE between him and Naithea was utterly palpable. I was thriving each time we got a scene with them. I definitely have more to say, but ifykyk.

Overall, the twists and turns, especially in the last, 25-30% blew me away. I was at the edge of my seat every time I turned to the next page. I do look forward to exploring more of this beautifully crafted world that both of these incredible authors have created, and I am looking forward to seeing where our characters' stories go.

Definitely recommend reading if you enjoy the following:
✨ Lovers to enemies
✨ Unique Magic System
✨ Who did this to you?

I was really surprised on how much I enjoyed this book. It has such a slow start but it really picked up and came together at the end! This book was definitely a slow build and had a huge lift of world building and plot building in it. Along with that there was some really good romance and the potential for a fated mates situation. If that isn’t your thing then this isn’t the book for you! One of the FMC is with a girl the majority of the book as well so beware if that isn’t your thing either. Being a gay woman I more than enjoyed the representation! The relationship played out really well on the page and didn’t fall into typical stereotypes or anything. The two main characters, Naithea and Darcia are long lost twin heirs to a cursed kingdom and they are both completely unaware of their true identities. And the current kingdom they live in is hunting them down. Without realizing who they truly are they align themselves with the monsters hunting them.

This book was really good! I enjoyed some of the predictability but enjoyed the unique magic system and hope in the next book the foundation of that is laid out further. Both characters had really good growth and I didn’t feel that they were annoying or in some cases they repeat the same conversation over and over again. I thought the abuse from Conrad was a little far fetch and in my opinion dumb especially since no one even attempted to help Darcia at all. Even more dumb when she said her dad never knew, my goodness most of the city knew I’m confused how he didn’t. I felt the whole martyr act instead of saving yourself and running away from the abuse a little aggravating at times. I’m hoping with caeli being dead (predictable) she will move on from that being her entire personality. I love love loved Naithea and her sisters, her chapters were the best and I feel like she grew the most. She was such a spit fire and enjoyable to read. Alasdair and Darcia’s banter was the best and I knew as soon as he came into the picture caeli was going to die. I really really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the second. It was a rollercoaster and once it picked up I couldn’t put it down.

This was e-ARC given to me in exchange for an honest review.

first of all, i binge read this book in three days which is like a big accomplishment for me!!! the plotline was so entertaining and exciting that i just couldn't put it down. both l.c. and denna did an amazing job at slowly intertwining both our main characters lives and of course at creating the events that led them there. i can't even say how many times i got shocked because of the plot twists!!!
the worldbuilding was also very well thought, rich, and detailed, which i always appreciate!!
the characters... i'm obsessed with both of our female main characters guys. their journeys were tension filled and i was pretty emotional most of the time. commander ward... well i love him. the romance was sooooo tension filled that i was kicking my feet the whole time. and the yearning *chefs kiss* guys when did everyone stop writing these!!! but of course our two authors brought them back and they did an amazing job. however, the trope is lovers to enemies and i'm leaving you at that🤣
well, i loved everything about this book. the plot, the twists and turns, the diversity of our characters, the way feminine power is portrayed, their strength and passion to protect their loved ones.
if you, like me, love high stakes fantasy books with multiple pov's then this is your sign to pre order this book!!! it's gonna be released january first so stay tuned.
thank you l.c. and denna for having me in the arc team🤍

4.5 ⭐️ rounded up

Thank you to the authors, L.C Emerson and Denna Selen for the ARC!

First off, I have to give major props because I know English isn’t L.C Emerson’s first language (unsure about Denna Selen), yet the writing in this was beautiful and read better than some other books I’ve read where the author is a native English writer! Because there are two authors, each POV for our two FMC’s are different writing styles (and honestly I LOVED that)♥️

The world building of this high fantasy was easy to follow along without info-dumps or overwhelming information being thrown at the reader. Getting into the land of Len Rajya was intriguing and addicting⛰️. The twists and turns of the plot had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t get enough of learning more about the characters!

Our FMC’s, Darcia and Naithea, are both strong, resilient women that seek acceptance and want nothing more than to protect their loved ones. As the fate of the land becomes more dire, and theirs lives threatened, they refuse to be mistreated any longer in the cruel world and fight for what they believe in while seeking one another. Usually when it’s dual POV I have a preference for one over the other, but not at all in this book. I was SO invested in both Darcia and Naithea that each chapter was exciting and just made me keep reading late into the night

I’m super curious about the MC’s as well and what will happen in their storylines when it comes to Naithea/Darcia!

The only reason it isn’t 5 stars for me is because I wish the sisters met sooner/had more of a connecting moment when they DID meet, as well as a characters death that I felt maybe didn’t need to die (but I also understand for the sake of tragedy in the plot).

Overall would recommend this for anyone that loves:

- Chosen Ones
- Found Family
- Hidden Identities
- Intriguing World-building
- Sibling bond

thank you so much to the authors for my early copy! all opinions are my own!

when i heard about this book on Twitter and then i entered the ARC team, i never expected to find such a beautiful and wild ride 😱😱
the doble POV was handled amazingly, each one with a small cliffhanger to keep you reading to find out what will happen next. i adored both sisters so much, they're the same and at the same time they have their own goals and desires, their troubled past and how they managed to overcome it. Darcia's journey basically broke my heart, loved reading her interactions with everyone and how freely the LGBT+ romance was explored. the spicy was there but it wasn't exagerated or anything, so i have to thank the authors for that. Naithea's story was the worst for me: as someone who will defend abolicionism until the end of her days, reading about all she had to endure was horrible and i wanted to hug her so badly. but it was my first time reading from such perspective and it was so well done, really respectful all the time. every single side character was amazing, ALASDAIR IS MY KID HE WAS BORN IN THE SAME DAY AS ME I LOVE HIM SO FREAKING MUCH 😭😭😭 and then there is Ward who had my heart on a silver platter from the second he appeared 😭😭😭😭
the dramas and plot twists were amazing, some of them even had me laughing because of how they were being revealed, and my mouth was hanging open more than half the book. not gonna deny, i adored it so much and ended up being a surprise for me, so obviously i'm seated for book two even tho it's still being written. PLEASE GO READ IT, IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL 😍😍

This book was so unexpected. I had no idea I’d love it as much as I did! Each chapter switched between Darcia and Naithea’s POV. Sometimes when that happens you’ll prefer on POV over the other but not with this one. I loved both storylines SO much. Both of the FMCs were amazing. They were both in very different situations that should have made them feel powerless but they both held their heads high! I loved both of these strong female leads. 🖤

Then there’s Ward and Alasdair. One is known as the Midnight Thief and the other is known as the Commander of Death. I mean come on, how could you not love them! Ward was kind of a quieter more broody MMC. He called her ‘love’ 🥹 so cute! I’m soooo interested to see where the story leads in the next book. Alasdair brought some light into this dark world. I’m obsessed with him. There’s a part where he gives Darcia flowers… that’s all I say but that moment was it for me. I love him!

I was addicted to this book. it was hard to put it down! I loved the world. I loved all the unraveling of secrets. I loved all the characters so much! The Found Families!The unexpected allies! The wolves! I’m so excited to read the next one. Please do yourself a favor and read this book if you like fantasy.

Oh and Conrad can kick rocks. 😤

Congrats on your debut ladies! You killed it!! 🙌🏻🎉

𝒜 𝓌𝑜𝓂𝒶𝓃 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝒶𝓂𝒷𝒾𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝒻𝒶𝓇 𝓂𝑜𝓇𝑒 𝒹𝒶𝓃𝑔𝑒𝓇𝑜𝓊𝓈 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓃 𝒶𝓃𝓎 𝓅𝑜𝓌𝑒𝓇𝒻𝓊𝓁 𝓂𝒶𝓃.”

When the youngest royal heir is turned to stone by an ancient curse, the King sends his soldiers on a rampage to find and destroy the source: the lost princesses of the enemy kingdom. Naithea is a hetaira enslaved by a never-ending bargain in a luxurious brothel, while Darcia is an illusionist shackled to her stepbrother’s circus. The chaos created by the King’s soldiers pushes them to unravel the mystery of the lost princesses and forces them to face the darkness within themselves before magic is destroyed forever.

When I first heard about this book I was so excited and it absolutely did not disappoint! If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m smitten for some good world building and the world in Heirs of the Cursed is so rich and beautiful. Not only is world information given to us perfectly well within the story, but the authors have pulled it all together in a quick guide on their Instagram pages and it was so good to have something to refer back to!

The characters themselves felt so real to me. Not just Naithea and Darcia, but the people they cared about, the people they didn’t care about and, of course, the MMC’s. I cared about the people they loved, so when anything happened to them, it was hitting me right in the feels too! I loved them all, especially Alasdair, who became one of my favourite MMC’s of the year after only one paragraph! He’s basically Flynn Rider with daggers and I am but a girl.

The plot itself had me in a chokehold from the moment I read the synopsis! This story has everything a romantasy lover could ever want. There’s a curse destroying a world, political intrigue, light and dark magic, plot twists, lovers become enemies, and there’s animal friends! It was also written in alternate chapters following each sister and they were expertly woven together.

I cannot recommend this book enough and I will be forcing it on to everyone I know! I need book two immediately!

Thank you so much to the authors for having me on the ARC team! ♥️✨

4.5 stars rounded up!

Thank you so much to the authors for sending me an ARC.

I am an avid Romantasy reader and I loved this book so much! It follows two women named Naithea and Darcia. Naithea works in a brothel and Darcia entertains in a circus and has been abused by her step brother her whole life. I really felt for each woman and I found myself loving each storyline equally. Caeli is one of my favorite characters and I thought she and Darcia were such a sweet couple. I also enjoyed Alisdair with his sharp tongue and caring nature. There’s an interesting curse which is killing the royal children and the cursed twins are to blame. I enjoyed the magic and the lore of the dryads and daimonas.

The book was interesting from the first page for me personally. I have been in quite a reading slump lately and this pulled me right out of it. There’s a lot of action towards the end. I’d say around the 68% mark so when things start getting wild. There were some moments I did expect, and other moments that I didn’t expect which were so interesting to see unfold. There’s a bit of spice in this book which I would give a 3 🌶️ rating to. It was well done though!!

I do have one small complaint and that is the word ‘boreal’ being used quite a bit. But that’s just me being picky! Overall such a great read and I can’t wait to read book two now.

ADORED this book! I first fell in love with LC’s writing while as a beta reader for an unnamed project, and going back to read her published works has been beautiful.

I loved the beginning of Naithea’s and Darcia’s stories, and I cannot wait to see what becomes of them in book two!

“Light and Darkness will rise.
Despite two souls being cursed by its bearer.
Among shadows and stones, the northern star will shine in the darkest times.
And the southern shadow will guide us home at last.”

I was a beta reader for these lovely women and let me just say this - THIS BOOK IS SO SO WORTH IT !!

onto my review…

where to begin? I absolutely loved and would recommend this book to every romantasy lover. it dived into friendship, family, love and I absolutely connected with so many of the characters.

the main two protagonists were everything! reading Naithea and Darcia's stories individually and then as one was so beautiful. the background stories behind them but also their everyday struggles were so heartbreaking but made them feel so 3-dimensional and real. they were also such powerful, resilient women.

the romance in this book is super slow burn too. I loved all the male characters too - couldn't choose who I preferred over Ward and Harg but the midnight thief was by far my favourite character, he was so charming mysterious and full of personality.
The tension between Ward and Naithea almost threw me over the edge but it was totally worth it.
I miss the characters dearly and I still think about them and this book months after!

the plot itself was amazing and the lead up to the ending was so suspenseful. there were some really unpredictable moments in this book that genuinely had me shocked especially nearing the end (can't spoil but the main plot twist was insane??).

the ending left me speechless but was very satisfying - I just have to know what happens next!!

this book especially stands out from so many books l've read because of the level of worldbuilding and lore as well as the beautiful, complex writing (I was in awe of the writing - so detailed in the best way). there were so many hidden meanings behind every little thing and the worldbuilding was so clever and complex that it almost felt real. the world itself was beautiful; honestly I wanted to visit Dawnfall and Bellmare so bad.

overall, these wonderful women created such a brilliant masterpiece - I felt so honoured reading it before its release and I can't recommend it enough!!

Rating: 4.5 stars ~ thank you so much to L.C. Emerson and Denna Selen for an advanced reader copy of this delightful fantasy that comes out on January 1st, 2025! We are so close to the release date, I am honored to have been a part of this journey for you both and I can’t wait to get my physical copy on release day!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heirs of the Cursed details the opposite lives of Naithea Utari and Darcia Voreia. Naithea is a woman whose reputation precedes her as she is the favored and highest paid hetaira in Bellmare, tied to her life in the brothel she has been forced into to pay off a debt to their madame. Darcia is a mild mannered circus entertainer living in Dawnfall who enjoys spending time with her father, her girlfriend, and her friends, and who is controlled by her step brother, a tyrant who uses her talents to his advantages. Both Naithea and Darcia are blessed/cursed with a dark power. They have been fighting against their power for their whole lives, trying to strike a balance between using their powers for their gain, and not wanting to hurt and use others.
Their lives get turned upside down when the 7th royal heir turns to stone upon his birth - a curse that is decades in the making has begun. In order for the rest of the royal heirs to survive, the royal family must search for the Cursed Twins that were said to have been dead for 21 years. Only when the twins are found and killed will the heirs be safe from the curse.
Naithea and Darcia must protect those they love while their respective cities are flooded with royal soldiers. They will meet new people along the way, good and bad. They must learn to trust the right people in order to escape the occupancy of these soldiers with their loves and their lives.
I loved this book! I really enjoyed the universe we were thrown into. I felt the world building was similar to that of Crescent City - you kind of get thrown into it and have to figure things out along the way; I prefer this type of world building because it shows that the authors know their readers are smart and don’t need things handed to them on a silver platter. I thought the world was so unique and our main characters were well rounded and extremely likable.
You grow to love the main and the side characters so much over the course of the book. They are multifaceted and change so much as the story progresses. I also love the action and felt the pacing was perfect.
My only complaint is that I wish we had a little more time to feel the ending and to be with our characters. Without spoiling anything, it is a huge moment for the main characters and I want nothing more than to know what happens with them as dynamics have changed completely. I know I will need to keep reading the series I am just feeling impatient!!!
Thank you so much again to the authors of this lovely book for allowing me to read and review Heirs of the Cursed ahead of its release on January 1st. I had a blast with the characters and the world and felt like it was such an interesting and unique story. Overall I can’t wait for the next books in the series.
GENRE: Fantasy
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
FORMAT: eBook Arc
Would I recommend to others?: YES!
"To every person whose wings have been cut off. There will always be strength in your weakness."
"Two keys: one white as snow and the other black as the night itself. Light and darkness. They were bound by an extremely thing, fragile, almost imperceptible rope."
Review:
This book was wonderful! This is written by two authors: L.C and Denna and it is written in 2 POVs, one character for each author. I am only mentioning this from the very beginning as usually, you would notice a bit of changes in author style but this book read through as if its written by one author, which I loved!
This is a high fantasy book set in the world of Len Rajya and the world building is done in such a nice way that it doesnt feeling overwhelming (more than usual because we all know with fantasy, book one tends to either be jam packed with information about the world or just not enough).
We then meet Darcia Voreia & Naithea and follow their two separate POVs as we go through their life. Honestly, I loved Naithea, how much of a strong FMC she is (Darcia is super strong too but I connected with Naithea more). We watch them yearn for a family and for acceptance but they learn as they go to not accept mistreatment. Here are some quotes showing you just how amazing both FMCs are & all they have gone through:
"Some feared the monster under the bed, other the monster hiding inside the closet. Darcia feared the monster she lived with and could never get rid of."
"Ever since she was a child, she had taken on these chores, because part of her believed that, if she did them without complaint, no one would ever leave her again."
I would recommend this book to anyone who like High Fantasy & enjoys multiple POVs. It is a lovely book and was a solid 4 star read for me. I genuinely enjoyed it and cant wait for book two. The only thing that I did wish book one had more of was but I know I'm just being an annoying reader & we will see more of that in the next upcoming book. I'll leave you with another one of my favourite quote:
"Escaping from reality, even the most miserable souls can find a refuge."
4.5 stars for me. What a debut! I absolutely loved this one and can't wait for more!
This is really like 2 stories in one - we have Naithea and her story with Ward and then Darcia and hers, both two women trapped by their situation and surroundings. I especially love Naithea’s story so much, her and Ward, and all that delicious hate to love. No spoilers but OMG I can’t wait for people to read their story.
I absolutely loved the setup here and the world building. This story takes its time to grow and develop organically, and I really loved both women and their resilience and strength.
One thing I need to comment on that I'm still thinking about regarding Darcia is behind this cut.
I believe this is the first book in a trilogy - and the ending leaves you with plenty of questions needing answers to and OMG I cannot wait to see where things go from here!
Adding in a few reminders for myself when the next book comes out.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
