In the wake of the Sumner Shadows' latest attack, his four former best friends find themselves plagued by his latest reveal. After finally learning the introduction to the mystery of Emmy Walker, the aptly named Slayer Society seek to learn everything they can about this woman and how she came to be connected to a criminally inclined juvenile.
However, more questions swarm around them. There’s the peculiar trifecta of trying to figure out how another patient at Arclan Asylum fits in to Sumner’s perfectly crafted puzzle, who’s aiding Sumner in committing these fresh murders, and if they figured out who their stalker was, why does it feel like someone new is watching their every move?
As the loose ends keep coming and the stakes start to incline, Abram, Alex, Bridge, and Mercer will need help to uncover who’s the marionettist helping Sumner pull the puppet strings. Will the newest additions to the Slayer Society be able to solve the trauma of their lives, or will being engrossed in Sumner’s diabolical shadow make the suffering grow into an even bigger malignant mass?
I love Justin's way of writing! After finishing Sever, I just had to pick up the second book and I'm so glad I did! I think he did a better job of pacing the story and the themes of this book feel more concrete and constructed well. He's definitely on my author's to watch list. Such beautiful language and the story is so riveting! I love that this book feels darker and the stakes feel heavier, all leading to THAT ending, my god, what's going to happen in the next book!? I can't wait to find out.
Following their friend's latest attempt at violence, the aptly named Slayer Society add more members to their misery for the sake of sharing information. But will they finally figure out what's going on or are they too busy dealing with the other woes in their lives to see what's coming next?
