In the end it was exactly what I wanted from a companion book. It was more of a scholarly perspective of the nag Hammadi that quickly covered its history and contents. One piece I liked in particular was that it did not suggest anything but more so explained what different people are saying about it depending on their beliefs. It built upon itself and was organized quite nicely.
While I did not mind the AI narration I am left wondering about the legitimacy of the author. Who is Trevor Pennington? I have not been able to find any information regarding his qualifications to write on this topic. However, with the little other research I have done I believe it’s good.
