Two and a half stars: An inconsequential book, okay if there's absolutely nothing else to read. Supernatural element is downplayed to point of being as insubstantial as the supposed phantom. Cast of characters including famous real people is a distraction, not a bonus.

I received this in a box of used books. It just sat around for nearly a year, but now that I'm reading it I can't put it down.

All things considered, this is a good run of the mill period mystery. The characters are a little wooden and the homage to Dame Agatha Christie's famous mystery on the same train is rather obvious, but if you manage to run across a copy it's worth a read...It is entertaining enough for a weekend or beach read. And while I wasn't familiar with the main character (apparently this is the second book in the series), things were easy enough to follow.

I won't say no to reading other books in the series, but I don't plan to intentionally seek them out.

Reminiscent of Agatha Christie's mysteries, with a hint of a ghost. A gentle, enjoyable story.
