While attending the consort selection ball, Eleonora finally met the man known far and wide as the Demon Emperor. Despite his cold demeanor, Emperor Alexei bears a surprising resemblance to the young boy she loved like family in her previous life. While their initial meeting got off to a rocky start, it sparked something between them, and Eleonora finds herself invited back to the castle only days later. Much to her confusion, the man who appears before her now no longer seems like the Demon Emperor she met before…but what could have changed?
I confess I didn't love this volume quite as much as volume one as there was a few places I felt my mind was starting to wander, but the ending was so beautiful that it fully sold me on this volume! I would have given this volume 3 stars, but I got very emotional at the end and am bumping it up to 4 stars simply because of how touching it was!
Rewinding though, I did like this volume! I really loved seeing Ham's happiness once he realized who Pie was because his smiles were so special and really lit up the entire page! Also seeing how soft he was for his woman definitely made me smile and happy more than once! LOL!
I think the hardest part of this volume was Pie's struggles? I think her story was very realistic in her struggle to view Alexi as himself and not as Ham because she had missed him for so long and just wanted to be reunited with him, but not in a new way or even one that was romantic. So I think her going back and forth between the past and the present made sense, but there were times I wished her internal agony wasn't so drawn out or extended quite so long? Her realization of who Ham was though definitely pulled at my heartstrings and my heart went out to her!
I did love their happily ever after so so so much though and I'm very happy and thankful I read this series! It's one I plan to keep and I think I will enjoy it more the next time I reread it because I know that is what happened after I reread volume one!
Also, I want to quickly mention that I LOVED the parts with the magical beasts! It was a very fun part of this story!
Again, I enjoyed this volume and really adored the end! I think if you're looking for a short josei series with two people coming together because of tragedy and then finding themselves together as different people when one of them is reincarnated, this is a beautiful one to check out!
I was going to give this a 2.5 and round it up for adorable unicorn mice, but the ending was just so sweet and lovely that I've decided it's an unequivocal 3. It was worth the narrative shortcuts for that beauty of a happily ever after.
I liked this story. Unfortunately there are only two volumes and it really feels like the second volume could have been split into a second and third volume. There's a whole bunch of time passing and events passing quickly in this second, and final, volume. It almost felt hard to breathe in some ways and a lot of the resolutions came so quickly he almost felt like you had whiplash. But despite that, the story is still sweet and cute. The finale is charming and heartwarming. You get all the warm fuzzies that you're wanting by that point. It just felt incredibly rushed.
I read vol. 1 in April and it was ok, not exactly what I expected when I had read the synopsis months ago. Overall I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. I did like it better than this volume, though. I was surprised that the Emperor figured out who she was pretty quickly and that even though it took her a while, she realized pretty soon as well so it didn't end up dragging for 100+ chapters like so many series do (thank God). I remember being so surprised when I was reading vol. 1 and being so surprised that there are only 2 volumes in this series and only 17 chapters. So then I had the opposite reaction where I was worried that the story will be too rushed, some parts did feel rushed, while others didn't. As I explained in my review of vol. 1 that I wasn't going to read vol. 2 right away because I had heard that it's a very cute romance, which I wasn't in the mood for at the moment.
I like the fairy tale feel of it and I did mention in my review of vol, 1 that it felt like a light retelling of Snow White from the prince's side when he was a kid and Cinderella from Eleonora's side after she's reborn. She says that there's no way her precious Ham could be a bad person, which is very naive. People change when they grow, it's very childish to think they won't. I changed a lot even from when I was 20, let alone from when I was a kid. I know this is supposed to be a short and sweet love story, but these kinds of things always annoy me coming from an adult. I mentioned this is my vol. 1 review as well. Here are my exact words from that review. What I don't like is that for someone who was an adult and then has lived life a second time, she still thinks that people will stay the same as they were 18 years ago as a child, she doesn't seem to understand that people change, even people who were very sweet, things happen that change a person.
Overall, it was a cute heartwarming story if you're in the mood for that/love that kind of romance stories and or if you're just looking for something short and quick tor read in between books or just need two more books for your reading challenge. It was an ok story, nothing memorable or special. I'm not trying to be mean, it's just the truth.
The second volume was also the last. This one had more of a fairy tale feel, complete with a narration and a story-book happily ever after.
The volume starts where the previous ended, Eleanor meeting Emperor Alexei in private. Soon she realises he’s the little boy, Ham, she’d cared for in her previous life in the magical forest. But Alexei is ashamed to admit it, because it’s his fault all the magical beasts died.
But all is not lost. The magical beasts return, and since Eleanor can still communicate with them, she’s made their special protector. The two agree to marry, which happens a year later. Meanwhile, Alexei punishes Eleanor’s cruel family like in a fairy tale.
After the marriage, there’s a skip to the time when their children are born, one of which has a green skin like Pie. But he’s greatly loved and happy. As is the entire empire. The end.
This was lovely and sweet, with beautiful art. There was a brief dubious moment in the courtship when Eleanor insisted seeing Aleksei as a little boy still, but she learned to regard him as the man he’d become, which was basically the main plot of the story. Two volumes was long enough for this.
Overall a cute and simple read, though I think it was a bit rushed toward the end. It glossed over a lot of things, and time skipped (I guess they had 4 kids, even though only 1 is really mentioned…). Her family’s fate was also rather simple and arbitrary. As a ruler he’s a bit…tyrannical. I understand his feelings on the matter, but it’s still necessary to follow the law…
TBH the basic premise of her never losing the accent was kinda silly, but it gave them an easy point of recognition. It’s also convenient that the magical beasts just…take turns and swap out who’s vulnerable..? Apparently it’s at least 17 years before they swap back…I’m going to say that doesn’t make sense, but ok. Killing them all made no sense either, and why they all ran there to be slaughtered…
Just ignore the illogical bits and the basic story was cute. It’s not the best writing, but I gave it more stars because I liked it.

I'm glad they made a point to give us everything we needed to know about their HEA, and they even answered some questions we might have. (Why did she have green skin?!) They even tried to toe the line about how she refers to him as Ham when referring to the affection she felt toward the boy, versus Alexei and the affection she feels toward him as a man. The two feelings were very different, and I appreciate they acknowledged that. This is meant to be wholesome, not weird, after all. Still, there was far too much rushing along the timeline. I didn't really get to enjoy anything as Sergei interrupted all the good parts. And when we got to the good parts playing out, the story was already hopping along to the next timeline. Shame, really. I think this might have been better if it was a present timeline with a flashed forward epilogue.
the premise of this would be way more uncomfortable if they didn't spend as much time on establishing how eleonora sees alexei as family/a little boy, and slowly develops into falling in love with him as the man he is now. I didn't realize this was the final volume, but they wrapped up nearly all of the loose ends in record time! the joke about the chancellor bursting in on them right before they're about to kiss got me every time XD

Torn between rating this higher just for sheer “what the heck did I just read” enjoyment factor, but alas this was way to condensed for me to say I honestly enjoyed the way things wrapped up. Definitely felt like an early cancellation leading to lots of “just explain everything in narration real quick!” time skips that led to very jerky pacing. This series was so weird, though, I still kind of love it.
There was a little too much happening in this volume plot wise and I think one more volume would have totally helped this be fully fleshed out. That said the art was beautiful and the ending was really very sweet. I do wish it had been a little clearer that she loved him for him currently not just his child self as the love she had for him felt so like the love of a caretaker on her part.
I felt a little weirded out by the romantic relationship between the two MCs after the female MC's reincarnation since when they first knew each other he was a child and she was a middle aged adult. I also couldn't get past the silly nicknames they had for each other. The last half of the last volume felt really rushed and as if it was just thrown in haphazardly.
This won me over! I was skeptical of the caregiver turned romance vibe but was very happy with how it got handled. Didn’t realize this was the final volume, but the speed run was fun and there were plenty of cute moments.
This has got to be one of the oddest Shojo series I’ve ever read lol. The art is pretty, but the premise is more bizarre than usual for a reincarnation type plot.
