The hijacker also survived, and has fled into the wilderness with the CEO’s son in pursuit.

As soon as day breaks, the K-9 teams set out to find both men, and the dogs quickly pick up a scent trail. Meg has used her connections with an investigative reporter to learn as much as she can about the hijacker, hoping to use it when they apprehend him. But first, they must contend with the mountain’s savage fury, and an adversary who will destroy as many lives as possible rather than face justice . . .

Summit’s Edge by Jen J. Danna writing as Sara Driscoll is the fascinating and suspenseful ninth book in the FBI K-9 crime thriller series. The book features Meg Jennings and her Labrador K-9 partner Hawk. They’re civilian employees of the FBI’s Human Scent Evidence Response Team.

Meg and her human partner on the team, Brian Foster are called into Special Agent-in-Charge Craig Beaumont’s office. Meg, Hawk, Brian, and Brian’s K-9 partner Lacey are being deployed to Colorado where a hijacked plane has gone down somewhere in the Elk Mountains of Colorado near Aspen. The plan carried the board of directors of Barron Pharmaceuticals, two security guards, a junior assistant and three crew members. Has anyone survived? Exactly where is the plane? What is the status of the hijacker and who is he and why did he do it?

Meg is compassionate, friendly, wants to help others, and has a keen sense of justice. She also has a fear of heights that she must overcome on some sites. Climbing a mountain is not going to be easy for her. Hawk loves the rescue life. He’s steadfast, determined, and full of drive. He also loves and trusts Meg as she does him. There’s an array of characters from prior books that help with continuity and a sense of visiting friends.

Dynamic characters and fantastic world-building combined with a great plot, intense scenes, and excellent pacing are a standard expectation with this author. She has once again delivered that in this excellent and intense search and rescue deployment novel.

Reading a novel in this series is also a learning experience. Once again, the author provides a definition of an aspect related to the novel’s plot at the beginning of each chapter. In this case, the terms are mountain climbing related. She also details the preparations needed for a mountain rescue, the intensity of the search, the first responders’ actions upon finding the crash site, and the search for the hijacker. Risks abound for the searchers, including Hawk and Lacey, with parts of the mountainous route rated class three and four on a scale from one to five.

The author’s writing style continues to hook me quickly. The prose is well-written and engaging. Readers can tell she did a lot of research to get the details right regarding the dangers and process of mountain search and rescue. I was transported to the dangerous scene and felt as if I was living the events alongside the characters. This is an intense novel and reminds readers of the situations these mountain rescue teams can encounter. The atmosphere is tense and serious throughout most of the novel and it has more technical details than usual in this type of book without slowing the pace. I loved the ending epilogue.

Overall, this tense, engaging, suspenseful, and tragic mystery gripped me from the beginning. It was difficult to put down. I’m a fan of the series and looking forward to reading the next book.

This is the 9th book in the FBI K-9 series, but it is the first I have read and it didn’t impede my enjoyment at all. It did reference a couple of previous cases but I feel like I would still enjoy those if I were to pick them up. I listened to the audiobook for about the first half of this one before switching to kindle and binging the rest. I thought the narrator did a good job, her voice may have been a little flat it really fit the focused nature of the main character. This book takes us to a plane crash in the mountains and Meg and her partner Brian (one of my only complaints of the narration is that her saying Brian and his partner Ryan’s names sounded the same and was confusing) and their search dogs are sent to Colorado to help find survivors but also the high jacket of a private airplane. This isn’t the kind of search they’re used to, but they are sure that they and their pups are up for the challenge. I liked the glimpse at these smart, sweet working dogs and the important work they do that humans can't match. Overall I gave this one 4.5 stars rounded up since I was starting the series late and that might have kept me from becoming fully lost in the story.

This FBI, K-9 series never gets boring. There is always something new to send the teams on to search for answers, victims, and/or bad people. Meg and Todd are getting married in twelve days. But then a corporate plane goes down in the mountains around Aspen, Colorado with reports of a gunshot onboard before the plane went down. The FBI is involved because of the shooting. So, Meg and her K-9 partner, Hawk, along with her partner Brian, and his K-9 partner Lacey are off to join the search. What a wild ride! The team has to deal with a mountain of 13,000 feet, altitude issues and the chance of avalanches. The exact location is not known nor if anyone survived. This is an excruciating, dangerous, tiring, and tense time for the search crews. Can Meg and the group get back in time for her wedding? Great addition to the series.

Meg and her dog Hawk work with FBI search and rescue. Even though they are based in DC and Meg is getting married in two weeks, they are summoned to the scene of a private plane crash in a rugged mountain area of Colorado. Apparently, the hijacked plane's passengers were the CEO of a big pharmaceutical company and his people which (surprise!) was notorious for selling opioids without regard to anything but profit. The book has many exciting details of Meg and the team fighting their way through the rough mountainous terrain with their dogs. Although there were others on the plane, I found myself disturbed that the search and rescue team were risking their lives to basically help a few wealthy executives. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

FBI K9 handler Meg Jennings and her partner Hawk are back for the 9th installment in the thrilling FBI K-9's series. Meg and Hawk are off to the peaks of Aspen, Colorado, where a hijacked plane has crashed somewhere in the Maroon Bells Wilderness area. Joined by fellow agent Brian, and his partner Lacey, Meg and Hawk are on the search for the plane, and any possible survivors. The unforgiving high altitude, and the harsh conditions of the search will test Meg and Brian, and their loyal dogs, as never before. But when every second counts, and lives are on the line, Meg and Brian must find a way to get the job done, preferably quickly, as Meg is supposed to marry her firefighter/emt fiance Todd Wells in less than 2 weeks. Will they find any survivors? Will Meg make it to her wedding? You will be up late reading every night to find out. The suspense and action are nonstop, and the detailed descriptions of what it takes to participate in a mountain rescue make you feel like you are right there on the mountain with the K-9's and their humans. Although you can read this as a stand alone - do yourself a favor and read the whole series. A strong female lead, dogs, excellent writing, and heart pounding suspense make this series and especially this book, a must read.

Full disclosure - I was a volunteer consultant for the Aspen based part of the book, as I have lived nearby for 35 years, and I recreate in the Maroon Bells Wilderness often. However, I am not a climber, or even a serious hiker, so I wasn't much help on that part of the book! But Sara nailed all of it, despite my shortcomings. I have been a fan of the author and this series from book #1, so it was an honor to be a part of this one. Thank you to Sara Driscoll, Kensington Books, and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy.. This review is my honest opinion. but I must acknowledge that this book is my favorite of the series. How can it not be - it's set literally in my backyard, in the mountains that I love. But despite my clear bias - this is an excellent book in a fantastic series!

I liked the plot of the story, but there was very little time spent on developing it. It was more about climbing the mountain in its unstable condition, the freezing weather, and safety measures, that I found myself skimming a lot of it. The parts I liked most were when the K9S Hawk and Lacey were searching. I don't like to say this, but I would not recommend this book.

Summit’s Edge by Sara Driscoll starts off with the intensity of a Barron pharma plane being hijacked over the dangerous, icy terrain of the Colorado mountains.
After the quick prologue that drew me into the story, FBI K9 handler, Meg, her partner Brian, and their amazing dogs take center stage. Meg’s wedding is in two weeks, and she has a fear of heights, but doesn’t let either of those issues stop her from stepping up to the plate. The level of research and awareness had me glued to the pages.
This story raced with a complicated search. The author did a good job at using dialogue to help orient the reader to what the rescue crew was up against, but in some places, heavy dialogue slowed the action. Either way, I like when I learn something new in a story. Although I highly doubt I’ll ever be anywhere so cold there is a snow avalanche, I know now how to handle being buried alive by snow. The team put in a lot of effort to bring Brian back, and the author’s vivid description had me on edge, worried that he might suffocate under the ice!

This is a Mystery/Suspense, and this is the ninth book in the FBI K-9 series. I have read one other book in this series before picking up this book, but I do think you can read this book as a standalone without any problems. I loved this book. It pulled me in, and I could not put this book down. I loved all the drama, fast pace, action, and suspense. This book had me on the edge of my seat while reading this book. I really loved this book. I listened to the audiobook for this book, and I think the narrator did a great job. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Summit's Edge is a high-stakes mission and my first read from Sara Driscoll. The book features FBI K-9 handler Meg Jennings and her trusty partner, Hawk, a lovable black Labrador. The premise is fantastic: Meg and her team are tasked with a dangerous search and rescue mission in the rugged Colorado mountains to find survivors, and a potential hijacker, from a private plane crash. I absolutely loved the K-9 action and the bond between the handlers and their dogs. Hawk is an instant favorite, and the atmosphere of a remote, dangerous search felt incredibly real. My only complaint? The tedious technical details. The step-by-step descriptions of the mountain climb and the prolonged search for the crash site felt more like a manual than a narrative. It pulled me out of the action rather than immersing me in it. That said, as a first foray into the series, I never felt lost, even starting with the ninth book. The core of the story is strong, and if you're a fan of K-9 thrillers and can overlook the slow-burn technical descriptions, this is a series worth checking out. I will read the next in the series. 3/5 stars

A place crashes in the Colorado mountains. Moments before someone on board had been shot. FBI handler Meg Jennings, who is two weeks away from her wedding to a firefighter, and K-9 partner Hawk are called in along with friend/partner Brian and K-9 partner Lacey. Battling weather, altitude, and attempting to locate possible survivors in the dark makes this one dangerous mission.

This book is all about the human and K-9 partners, how they work together and the process they go through to search for survivors and a killer. We are there for all of it including the prep. The level of detail is impressive and you learn a lot about mountain climbing and the process of a search and rescue as well as how handlers and K-9 partners work together. Hawk and Lacey are very impressive! There are also some friends on the outside that help.

The amount of detail, including dialogue from local teams there to assist, sometimes makes the pace feel slow. However, it feels like you're right there on the mountain with them and everything feels so realistic. I really appreciated that.

This is the ninth book in the series and there is some mention of previous cases Meg and Brian have been on. It made me excited to read them as the plots sound amazing and I feel this is a well researched series where you'll learn something new each time!

FBI K9 handler Meg Jennings and her partner Hawk (a black Labrador retriever) go on a dangerous search and rescue mission in the Colorado mountains. They’re looking for survivors of a plane crash, but may also need to track a hijacker...if he survived.

This is book nine but it can definitely be read as a stand alone. Brian and his partner Lacey (a German shepherd) work alongside Meg and Hawk. I enjoyed learning how search and rescue operates and how K9 units work in the field, true partners in every sense they have developed a deep trust and saved each others’ lives many times.

I was left breathless as the teams hiked and climbed a mountain THOUSANDS of feet high, in the COLD. The suspense was NON-STOP. Could the dogs make it over a steep slope? Was an avalanche going to start? Would they succumb to altitude sickness? What about falling debris or unstable footing? Ahhhhhh!! This is all BEFORE they find anyone! Climbing is a HUGE aspect of this adventure and it was helpful to have the definition of terms at the beginning of each chapter. I love when I can learn a little something while being on the edge-of-my-seat!

I adore an animal main character and SUMMIT’S EDGE has TWO. I constantly worried about the fate of the two doggos and their handlers. Sara Driscoll has expertly crafted a pulse pounding suspense ride, with tons of heart and a feel good vibe! Susan Bennett’s narration cranked the thrills WAY UP with her riveting emotive filled performance. I can still hear the fear in her voice as Meg shouted, “HAWK, RUN!” Sooooo EXCITING!! Whew! I felt like I had been climbing the mountain with them. Now I’d like a hot tub dip and a massage STAT to ease the tension. Don’t wait to grab your copy ASAP!

Call outs don't stop - even in the midst of wedding plans, as Meg Jennings discovers when she and her K-9 Hawk, along with her coworker Brian and his K-9, are sent to Colorado to help with the search and rescue, and possible fugitive apprehension, after a plane is hijacked over the Rockies. Not only will the teams have to contend with a hijacker, but there's all the danger related to a possible mountain rescue - snow, icy temps, wild animals, and avalanches. Meg and Hawk will have to work extra hard to resolve this situation if she wants to make it to her wedding.

This is absolutely one of my favorite series! Each book stands alone well, so it's not necessary to read the books in order (but I recommend it for maximum enjoyment). Meg, Hawk, and the rest of her team and supporting characters keep this series interesting, has me turning the pages, and reccommending the books to everyone.

Summit’s Edge, the latest in Sara Driscoll’s FBI K-9 series, is detailed, complex, and engrossing from beginning to end. The author takes us on an intense trek through the Colorado Rockies as Meg and Hawk, Brian and Lacey, along with two FBI agents, and two local Search and Rescue volunteers hunt and track potential survivors of a plane crash and the hijacker responsible for the disaster. I loved the story, was totally captivated, and enjoyed all l learned about trekking and climbing in the mountains.

Meg and Hawk are on a crazy case and it had me reeling with all the emotions. Brian and Lacey were very present and I loved their friendship and how strong the trust between Meg and Brian js. The new techniques, location and danger was fascinating and vividly described. The ending was perfect and had me smiling and tearing up. A great series with action, family, friends and K9s!

This is an absolute gem for fans of high-stakes suspense and action-packed thrillers. Summit's Edge is the latest in the FBI K-9 series. I've only read one of the prior books, but even though this book is #9, I had no problem connecting with the main characters. FBI K-9 handlers Meg Jennings and her work partner Brian Foster are sent on a search and rescue mission in the mountains near Aspen, Colorado. Meg and her dog Hawk are new to mountain rescues and the high altitude and Meg's fear of heights are obstacles that Meg is determined to overcome.

The team is looking for survivors of a crash in which a private plane was hijacked and at least one person was killed before the plane went down. In addition to the hazards of the extreme conditions they're facing, there is more danger to this search since the hijacker could be one of the survivors. The book does a great job of describing both the Colorado setting and the mountain conditions. It's informative about the equipment and skill needed to maneuver these mountains and the dangers of altitude sickness. I thought it was a little strange that Meg and Brian were called in when neither they nor their dogs had experience with mountain rescues, but overall I enjoyed this suspenseful book. I especially liked the ending, which I know readers who follow the series will love!

A very enjoyable audiobook. Mountaineering, K-9 working dogs, and a manhunt are the key actions in this novel. Meg is the FBI agent who lives and works with Hawk, a trained Labrador retriever. Hawk and Lacy, a German Shepherd, are assigned with their handlers to help find a plane crash and the man who caused the accident. The plane was carrying the CEO, COO, CFO, and Board of Directors of a Purdue-like Pharma company selling, nay pushing, highly addictive opioids on doctors and their patients. Gee, someone wanted them dead? Quelle surprise! But they are not all dead and neither is the person who caused the crash. Lots of (literally) high-altitude climbing and dog handling details made for interesting listening. And all this happens less than two weeks before Meg’s wedding. For series readers, I’m sure the wedding is exciting. Since this is the first I’ve read in this 9-book (so far) series, I was not as interested in the Epilogue’s lengthy descriptions of wedding flowers etc. But I can see the appeal and will definitely be reading the earlier books in this series to get all caught up before #10!

Summits Edge is an exciting, often frightening story of the perils faced by the courageous first responders who perform mountain rescues, along with their highly trained intrepid rescue dogs. FBI special handler, Meg Jennings is busy preparing for her wedding, when the call comes about a hijacked private plane that has crashed in the Colorado mountains. Meg, her work partner Brian and their two rescue dogs, Hawk and Lacey are dispatched with other agents to the area. All the information they have is that it was a corporate plane belonging to a pharmaceutical firm, and that someone on the plane was shot before the crash. Their mission is to locate and rescue any survivors, as well as search for whoever fired the shot. Jen J. Danna (writing under the name Sara Driscoll) has written a well-researched, captivating novel that kept my attention from beginning to end. The characters she has created, for this book and the series, are wonderful representations of dedicated first responders. I love the way she starts each chapter with an explanation of the particular rescue technique that is used in that chapter. This is a fast paced, detailed account of what is experienced in a mountain rescue of this type, and the perils faced by both the human and canine heroes that perform this vital rescue. I learned so much from this book! The author has combined the harrowing facts of a rescue, that highlights the bravery of these first responders, and their canine counterparts into an absorbing mystery wrapped with just a bit of romance! In book 9 Summits Edge of the FBI K-9 series, there is a call made from a private plan about a hijack right before the plane disappears. Not knowing if there are survivors or not, the mountain rescue team brings in the FBI K-9 unit. Meg/Hawk and Brian/Lacey are on a mission, taking them into the mountains of Colorado to locate wreckage and find any survivors. The weather, altitude, and treterious mountains might be the hardest and most dangerous missions yet.
The handlers and the K-9s face the complex search as they always do, but is it enough to locate the plane?survivors? The gunman? Will they all make it off the mountain safe? Is the challenge too much?
All the usual characters are helping the search from afar. Todd, who is a firefighter/paramedic and Meg's fiance, helps with medical advice along the way. He needs Meg back for their wedding in two weeks. Clay McCord helps by finding information to help figure out who the highjacker is and why he did this.
I have read all the books in this series, and this, by far, is the best one yet.
I always love the partnerships, trust, and loyalty that are shown in the series. I highly recommend this series to dog lovers and all readers alike.

Summit’s Edge: And FBI K-9 Novel by Sara Driscoll is book nine in the series, and you don’t need to have read the previous novels, since each one is a stand alone case, but I do think starting a series from the beginning is a good way to see the characters develop and to get some of the inside jokes and references.

As with all the books I’ve read by Driscoll, she is amazing at taking a subject and teaching the reader all about it, while writing a fast paced story. Summit’s Edge is about mountain climbing and search and rescue. One of the reasons I enjoy reading is to learn new things, and I always do when I read one of Driscoll’s novels.
Even if it’s a subject you don’t think you are interested in, Driscoll keeps you so engaged with the solving of the crime or chasing after the bad guys, that you may not even realize you’re learning new things!

If you enjoy suspense with a touch of romance and wonderfully developed characters, you’ll want to check out this series or her NYPD Negotiators series.

I’ve enjoyed all the books in Sara Driscoll’s FBI K-9 Series. That is, until I read “Summit’s Edge”.

This was more of a textbook for canine search and rescue in the mountains than a compelling thriller. Far too much technical detail and not enough storytelling.

For example, why not describe the entire hijack scene at the beginning? Let the reader get to know the characters and reveal some backstory as the critical scene unfolds, instead of halfway through the book.

There were blips of good action, but overall, this was dull. It had the potential to be a thrilling story, but fell far short of that mark.

So…this was terrific!
We have a dog (actually TWO, K-9 dogs who work in the FBI search and rescue area!) Meg is Hawk’s handler (and I’ve already fallen in love with him!) And, her partner Brian has Lacey, who is also a sweetie! The four of them work together very well, and when the going gets tough, they know they can depend on each other. As a matter of fact, these terrific K-9’s can do so much more than their human counterparts…at least in several areas. But it’s wonderful to see (hear) how well they work together.

When they get called in for a private plane that’s been hijacked, they set off almost immediately… But Meg is a BIT concerned, as her wedding looms in the very near future…(It’s actually TWELVE DAYS AWAY!!) But she has high hopes that she’ll make it back with plenty of time to spare… 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Ends up that there was a distress call from the plane before it went down, but that’s all they know. Oh…and the plane is owned by (and full of) a big pharmaceutical company that has been in the news lately for some dicey stuff…. Their entire upper management staff is on this plane!

And, the area the plane went down in is in one of the trickiest places in Colorado….where the highest mountains are. This makes finding the plane, and any possible survivors, nearly impossible.

This one will have YOU holding your breath, and hanging on to every STEP as they go!

I believe this is the second I’ve read of this author, and I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more!!

•FBI handler Meg Jennings and her K-9 Hawk are assigned to find survivors of a hijacked plane crash in the snowy mountains of Colorado. With only two weeks to Meg's wedding they have to make it back in time. If the hijacker doesn't find them first.

•Ch. 1: wow, edge of your seat.
•Ch. 2-18: extremely technically detailed.
•Ch. 19-22: that was exciting.
•Epilogue: aww.

•Nicely written with great characters. I haven't read any other book in the series but was able to fall in love with the characters and genuinely hoped they wouldn't die.

•I found the technical details made for odd/clunky dialogue. It made the story drag and feel slow. Although if high altitude summit climbing ever crosses my path I feel very prepared.

•A fun story but maybe start at the beginning of the series to get used to the detailed writing.

FBI K-9 handler Meg and her search dog Hawk (with teammates Brian and Lacey) fly cross-country to aid in a search effort in the Rocky Mountains. A corporate jet has been hijacked (hence the need for FBI) and crashed into a "fourteener" [really high] mountain peak.

This is the ninth book in a series that I have devoured as each book is available. This one did not appeal to me as much as the prior books. Possibly because I share Meg's fear of heights?

Like all the others in the series, the author's painstaking research is obvious: mountain climbing, airplane mechanics, rifles and snipers, high altitude illness, avalanche survival ... You are guaranteed to learn something -- and enjoy doing so -- in a Sara Driscoll book.

This was a very interesting, extremely detailed novel about searching for a suspected hijacker in the mountains of Colorado. I feel like I learned so much about mountain climbing and altitude sickness! As someone who has a fear of heights, the descriptions of the settings were so incredibly detailed that I felt as if I were right there with the team of searchers on the mountain. This is the only book I've read in this series and it definitely worked as a standalone.
I really enjoyed this book!

This was a good story about adventurous FBI K-9 handlers solving a crime involving a high jacking of a plane. The first half did move a little slow for me personally, but the suspense picked up during the second half and it got intense. I’d recommend this book to people who like to read FBI crime novels.

This is the first book by this author that I have read and I have already ordered the previous 8 in the series.

The story about Meg and her canine partner is one not to take lightly! The work they do together, scent detection, is amazing and this story exemplifies its importance.

If you are a dog lover and a criminal procedures book person, this book combines both and it is fabulous!

I was gripped by Book 9 in this riveting FBI K-9 series, set in the Colorado mountains after a plane goes down. Can easily be read as a standalone but will make you want to read Sara Driscoll's whole compelling series, especially if you love dogs and thrilling mountain tales.
