Almost two decades ago, the Alliance and Earth's Solar Command (SOLCOM) forces waged war upon one another, raining destruction down on Hayden's World. Sorilla Aida, SOLCOM operator, trained the people who fought back against the oppressors and forced them from the jungle planet back to the depths of space. Today, though, the war is a memory as SOLCOM and the Alliance seek a closer partnership among the stars. Some people have very long memories, however, and do not believe in forgiving... or forgetting. Some lessons have to be taught to friends and foes alike.
This book takes up the story decades in the future but it is a great feeling to return to this universe and the MC in particular. I wish these books were 1000 pages but alas I will just have to wait for the next one.
This is a bit of a table setter but it has enough action in it to be satisfying and a complete story on its own. If you have read the prior books in the series you should pick this one up and enjoy.
I was pleased when this book appeared as I had assumed this series had finished and Sorilla’s retirement meant we had heard the last of her. In my review of Among Enemies I mentioned that the author didn’t tie up all the loose ends in the series, perhaps these lose ends will become part of this ‘new’ series. I enjoyed the story, although at times it did feel like it was just ‘setting the scene’ for future books. The book ends with many questions about the intentions of the Ross, ’The People’, will Sorilla continue to be an important character, or will others like Martin and Tee take up the mantle.
Storm Warning: Insurgent masterfully blends interstellar politics and personal drama through the eyes of Sorilla Aida, a revered SOLCOM operator. As alliances teeter on the brink of collapse, Aida's legendary status and strategic mind come to the forefront, navigating a world where past wars shadow the quest for peace. Evan Currie delivers a concise, action-packed narrative that explores deep themes like forgiveness and the enduring impact of war, making Sorilla an unforgettable protagonist in a series that's as thrilling as it is thought-provoking. This novel is a compelling entry point for new readers and a satisfying continuation for fans.
I’m in book 10 here so I’m obviously a fan of the series. The writing was good, as usual from this author. But this book had 2 main issues that I did not enjoy. 1) There was no real wrap ups in the story from the last book…a few vague mentions here and there was all we got. The last books’ ending was engaging… and I really wanted to know (in some detail) what came of it. 2) Nothing is resolved at the end of this book. A few loose ends in a good book that leads to the next is always a good thing and expected. But there should be some conclusions at the end of any book… not all loose ends.
It takes a while to get going, a long time to set out the circumstances for the basis of the story and it's more intrigue than action The Sarge figures heavily in the story as does Jeremy and his family, but it is really about the planet as a whole and their reaction to Earth joining the Alliance The last 30% is where the action picks up and we get to see the Sarge as we know her from previous books Not sure where the series is going, hopefully a bit more action than intrigue in the next one
You are taken to another plant the Hayden world where people are living some from earth , the Alliance forces and the SOLCOM forces all so there. They are fighting over the planet and have aliens and earth people agree with what they want. But this where the people there will fight if they have to , this wear everything goes strange and trouble. The did a good job with the book.
Book is very good Currie writes a good book. And thank god it doesn't read like its video game. Hopefully we will finally find out why the gray faces wanted Hayden and what the sturm ship has revealed after its capture/rescue from being buried for centuries.
I had thought this storyline finished but was so happy to see Aida back at it. Sometimes you need a hero and she brings it like no other. The action was fantastic. Keep up the good work. Please don't water down Entropy.
This is the action heroine that's believable. Marvel should take note.
Aida is one of my favourite sci-fi characters and I was thrilled to see another Aida story after the end of the series. It’s interesting seeing her in a civilian setting and kudos to the author for bringing a little realism to her skill set now that she’s a little rusty. I also enjoyed the complexities of the politics now that the war is over. Things are not simple. An enjoyable read.
Sarge is back. Retired maybe, but still at the center of the action. She built a city so she could keep an eye on the next step in Alliance Human relations. Now she's going to have to keep the peace from turning into another war...if only she can figure out who the enwmy is. More please..
A little sad this is coming to an end. There's so much left hanging in the air. Sorilla Aida is an awesome character. Always coming out with surprise techniques that wreck her opponents. Maybe wecan keep an eye on the Rodd'el and Sturm from another perspective.
I love this series and the major characters in it. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action. I enjoyed the discussion of long term versus short term thinking. I prefer the long term thinking side of the argument. I look forward to the next one.
Few decades after last part that seemed like the end of that chapter we return to Hayden. Here Earth and Alliance are preparing to sign the deal, that wasn't expected for a generation at least. That stirs some resentment and brings back topic of guerrilla fighting. Felt a bit short and story spans short period on Hayden, but by so feels like early books, just in different setting.
Awesome series, hope there are more books of this series in the works!!!!!!
Congratulations to Evan Curie for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories.
Aida is a great character. This series is one of my favorite military series out there. The tech is cool, the action great, and the plots generally are really strong. A great addition.
As always, great to return to this series. I usually describe Evan Currie's original works as a slightly brisker and, well, funner mix of David Weber and John Ringo (especially their collaborations). Can't wait for the next one!
