The brand new must-read middle-grade novel from the author of Crater Lake. Perfect for 9+ fans of R.L.Stine’s Goosebumps and Stranger Things.
“Deliciously scary and hilarious comedy-horror, perfectly pitched for eight-plus.”
The Guardian
Angelo and his friends have faced some truly fearsome foes, from mind-controlling parasites to deadly monsters of the deep and giant spiders to vampire birds … but their adventures aren't over yet!
Dread Wood High is suffering from an infestation of caterpillars. But these are no ordinary caterpillars. These creepy creatures grow into giant, mutant, killer moths with a taste for BLOOD! They’ll stop at nothing until everything – and everyone – is destroyed. It’s Club Loser’s toughest battle to date. It’s all to play for … and everything is at stake.
Can't believe this book made me tear up. Safe to say I assume this is the final book and it was a great one! Though my least fav in the series, being with Club Loser is always an awesome time.
I hope and pray that we get a future series that is more YA with Club Loser older and having more mysterious horror adventures in high school.
Such a great middle grade series, a new fav. I'll defs be keeping up with any and all releases this author has!
The gang are back together again, the last showdown against the Latchitts. It feels like it's the end of an era.
This time, with one of their own missing and the only people who are to blame are still alluding the police, what will happen? Will they get them back? Or will they payback the Latchitts and their secret entourage.
Wow so good, loved it as usual! The character development, the sneaking around like little teenage detectives, seeing them grow as people has been fantastic. The old enemies such as the parasites and the spiders.. as well as some new enemies.
Oh and Mr C 🥹.
Also very happy there were more One Piece and Jurassic Park References 😂.
I'm so sad the series is finished, it makes me so sad. But what an experience it has been! I feel a bit lost now it's done.
I’m so sad to see this series end. I’ve had a lovely time with Club Loser since I picked up the first book last year.
And the finale was brilliant. I don’t want to say anything really, because I don’t want to spoil a single moment of it. Just know that I pre-ordered both the kindle version and the audiobook, and immediately set it going on release date. It got me through a very stressful day.
I love hearing these sassy kids save the world from terrifying creatures. I’ve had quite the horrible year emotionally, and this series has just been the hot choccie for the soul I needed to get through it.
Jennifer Killick is such an engaging author. While I’m sad to say goodbye to Club Loser, I have already pre-ordered the first book in her next series.
TERROR TOWER is a brilliant ending to this amazing middle grade horror series!
It is a book that balances new elements alongside all the nostalgia of call-backs to earlier books. I really liked that they weren't simply references but meaty parts of the plot, taking the old and weaving it into something new that feels like the finale the series deserves.
There is an epic face off in this book, against monsters new and old. The new beastie in this book is so horrible - probably the creepiest moment in the book was it revealing what it does. The set up lets the book have this multi-level, video game like style as club loser "levels up" towards the big boss ending.
It also lets the book show off how much the characters have grown over the series, both individually and as a team. They can use all their experience of previous encounters to take on monsters that they found super hard in previous books with much more ease - and that's partly how the book is able to fit in so many monsters. Yes, they are all a horrible fight, but they're able to adapt to each one more easily.
The book shows some great responsible parenting. This group ahs been through a lot, and their parents are naturally concerned. Yes, the kids find this annoying, but it's also so clear that this is being done out of love and a responsible level of "you should not have to face this." It's a well drawn line.
Mr C is also a key character once more. I liked that he doesn't get shown to be the villain - and the kids are right in fighting for him. I feel like that twist would have undermined his character and the role model he represents. It was also nice to see the books acknowledge how much he's done for them without ever asking or expecting anything, and the kids to do that too. He's been such a fun character to follow along.
Am I sad this series is over? Yes - I've loved every minute of it for the past six books. However, this does feel like a great way to end it (and there's a new, unrelated series coming soon, so there's that to look forward to!)
I've really enjoyed the Dread Wood books. Both as a reader and as a secondary school librarian looking for books for my students. The books combine horror and humour and feature a great cast of characters. The length is really appealing too as they are long enough to develop a decent story but not so long that they put potential (especially weaker) readers off.
I have to say I didn't find the main creatures in this story as creepy as some of the others. I think they just didn't seem believable enough to me so I didn't feel the peril as much. I did like the call backs to the previous books and it was great to see how the characters have grown since they initially faced the monsters.
I would have liked a few lines at the end about what was going to happen to the baddies but I was otherwise happy with how things were resolved.
WHAT A FINALE! Properly gripping! I didn’t wanna put it down! This has everything that I’ve grown to love about the series - it’s scary; it’s got humour; it’s clever; it made my skin crawl. Club Loser are some of the best characters, and the Latchitts are some of the scariest. I’m so sad this series is over! Featuring some new terrifying creations (that are maybe the worst yet!).
A bittersweet moment! I have absolutely loved the Dreadwood series and I don’t think it could have been finished any better! So much mystery, jumping and genuine grossed out moments. Can’t wait to see what her new series brings
I ABSOLUTELY LOVEEEEEEEE JENNIFER KILLICK BOOKS ESPECIALLY DREADWOOD SERIES I ALSO READ CRATER LAKE RECENTLY AND THEY GROUPS HAVE MY HEART IN JUST TWO BOOK I HOPE TO SEE MORE BOOKS FROM HER LIKE THESE
An epic ending to a fantastic series. Club Loser say goodbye in typically classy and creepy style. Plenty of callbacks to keep Dread Wood fans happy and a satisfyingly chilling end to keep everyone happy (and squirming!). This is a series that is going to keep on finding new readers/victims!
I still think someone needs to get these kids and their parents a really good therapist. A bit of a weak ending to this series in my opinion, but still enjoyable.
This last book gets 5⭐️ from me and it’s well deserved. This one is extra creepy in my opinion - the bugs in this are disgusting to me (I hate bugs lmao) so the horror element was definitely there. I loved the storyline, but it’s these characters that make these books what they are. I love every person in Club Loser and they all bring something different although if I had to pick, Gus would be my favourite as he gives me the most laughs.
The ending definitely leaves room for there to be another book, should the author wish to revisit at any time but for now, I’m pretty content with the series. Definitely one I will revisit in the future!
4.5 stars rounded up. I will miss Club Loser so much. Everything was wrapped up a little fast though... I appreciate the pay off of things being set up in the other books!
What a great finale to a nail-biting, jaw-dropping edge of your seat series. After reading the first three, I had the opportunity to read this one, and I had to take it. Am I sad I didn't wait and read the others first, a little, will I go back and read the others... Yes! There were some things that were mentioned in this book where I thought 'oh they're talking about something that happened in the other book'. It didn't bother me. I love everything about this series so far and can't wait to see what comes next from Jennifer Killick. 5 ☆'s from me.
I really enjoyed this book! It was super exhilarating and exciting, however I was a bit sad to see this amazing and wonderful series come to an end.
For an unknown reason, Dread Wood High School is suffering from a plague of strange caterpillars. However, what the families of Dread Wood High don’t realise is that on the night when a new part of the school building is being unveiled, these awful creatures will hatch into flesh-hungry butterflies! Can Club Loser save the school once and for all? Or will they finally meet their match?
I loved this book! It was so exciting and flabbergasting; I just couldn’t put it down. Again, I loved all of the characters, and I am quite upset to leave one of my favourite realms. However, I feel like this was the perfect ending, and I absolutely cannot wait to read more of Jennifer Killicks work. I feel like this is a great way to engage children into reading horror stories, and if you would like to start reading horror, if you read a book that emotionally damaged you and just haven’t read horror since, then this is the perfect series for you.
