Broken Hearted by Leia Stone and Julie Hall is the third standalone fairytale in the Cursed Fae series, brimming with clean romance, high-stakes adventure, and heart-tugging choices. This time, we follow Isolde, princess of the Winter Court, tasked with bringing back the black heart of an Ethereum Lord in order to break the curse consuming Faerie—after both the Summer and Autumn princesses before her have already failed. But unlike them, Isolde quickly learns the truth: the other princesses live, and they are working toward another path to salvation. Fed lies her entire life, she now faces a devastating choice… and her heart is only further complicated by Adrien, the dark Lord of the Southern Kingdom of Ethereum, whose piercing presence unsettles her with every glance. ❄️🖤⛵

───♡─────────────

♡ What I loved most:
• I adored how the premise shifted this time—Isolde already knew the truth, which meant there was no rushed assassination attempt, but instead a more thoughtful unraveling 🌌
• The dual POV was excellent, and I loved how we got Adrien’s perspective much earlier this time 📖
• Isolde stood out from the former princesses: she questioned, doubted, and wrestled with guilt in a way that felt deeply realistic. Her hesitation and inner turmoil grounded the story and made her so relatable. 🌙
“Home. This wasn't my home. My home was in the Winter Court. Back with my sisters and parents and my people. I still couldn't fully comprehend how Dawn and Aribella had just left everyone to die… okay, that wasn't completely fair. They believed there was a way to end the curse for us and future generations and chose not to murder someone to temporarily stop it, which I respected. But to marry and settle down here when our people were drowning in black waters or freezing solid. I could never.”

“It was just… the mate thing was so different to me and my culture. Here you kissed, found out you were mates, got married and popped out a kid? But a couple of weeks ago Adrien and I didn't even know each other and he was engaged to someone else.”

• The romance itself felt more earned this time—not just instant sparks, but tension, work, and gradual softening 😌
• Isolde and Adrien’s tension had me hooked from the start—their dynamic was magnetic ⚡
• I loved that this book gave us sailing adventures! Ocean voyages always bring such a sense of vastness and danger ⛵🌊
• The pacing was quick and addictive—I tore through this story.
• But what really set it apart? The danger. Unlike the earlier books, here Isolde faced tangible, breath-stealing peril, and I found myself holding my breath during some scenes 😳
• The found-family energy warmed my heart—I loved seeing everyone together, especially those small, joyful moments of levity 🤍
“Adrien popped up next to me and took me into his arms, gazing into my eyes. ‘I'm the luckiest man in all the realms.’
‘I beg to differ,’ Zander piped in, and we all laughed.”

✘ What didn’t quite work for me:
• My only lingering wish was for the relationships to be explored more deeply—though this book improved on it, I still craved a richer, slower emotional build 🌹

❀ Overall:
Broken Hearted completely stole my heart. I loved it even more than the first two installments—Isolde’s depth, the real sense of danger, the thoughtful romance, and the sweeping adventure made it my favorite of the series so far. It felt intense yet heartwarming, perilous yet hopeful.
Now, I only regret diving into this series so soon, because waiting for Black Hearted until October feels unbearable! 🥺🖤✨

2.5 stars, graded on a curve.

This was just…well it was something.

First, I’m fairly certain this was written using AI.
Which would also explain how one of the authors manages to release so many new books.

Why do all of them refer to their maids as “my love”? Can they not think of any other cringy terms of endearment?

The title of the page in the grimoire was so ridiculous. I could not stop laughing. How to make and break blood ties. For real? How convenient.

There was so much cringe it was truly difficult to handle. It was difficult to read with all the eye rolling happening.

The writing was not good. It was more like meeting minutes or Cliff Notes. You are not actually in the story. Someone is describing to you what took place. Instead of dialogue, the authors would describe what happened. “He told me XYZ and I told him ABC.” Not the actual conversation but an overview. Like “we talked about our childhoods. He told me what it was like to grow up there.” No dialogue, no details, no real information.

Would I recommend the book? Well…if you have absolutely nothing to do and are bored and not looking for a real quality read, sure. I’d advise not to go in with high expectations. Or even mid-level to be honest.

Broken Hearted by Leia Stone & Julie Hall is my favourite of the series so far! I love how the stories are interconnected and still can be read as a standalone.

I binged this one, what a wonderful romantasy series this has turned out to be, it’s action packed and fast paced.

The curse is spreading throughout the lands and In this book Princess Isolde’s mission is to kill an Ethereum lord to stop it, she’s not looking for love but the connection with her fated mate makes for some interesting moments.

I loved the story and the characters and I especially loved the ocean adventures in this book where we encounter merfolk and sirens.

I highly recommend this series and can’t wait for the conclusion with book four.

I will never not eat Leia’s books up😍👏🏼 as this one is co-written with Julie I just know I need to get into her books too!!

This series follows the story of faerie princesses of seasonal courts, and Lords of Ethereum- both have been fed different stories about the other… think curses, fated mates, secrets, a blight killing the lands, fae of all kinds, witches and more…

The books are so fast paced and easy reading but pack a punch of a story, it honestly amazes me how much can happen in a 300(ish) page book?! If it was any other author I swear it would be 500+ for the amount that happens, hence the fast pace which I just love - perfect for getting you out of a slump too🤭 each book follows a different princess and I can’t wait to get the final pieces of the story in the next book!!🤩

I was really looking forward to this story in particular, but was disappointed because we didn't get to know Adrien until almost half way through the book. So the connection between the two MC's felt too much like insta-love. Enjoyed the plot and the overall series progression, just wish we saw more development between the two MC's.

Isolde and Adrien brooooo.

There were a few parts of his book that were a little cringy, but overall the story is so goooood.

I think I’m pretty easy to please and this reads so easy like a wattpad or AO3 story hehe.

I’m so excited to read the ending broooo.

These are great books to read cause they’re quick and easy and entertaining, I literally finished this book in less than 6 hours :)

5/5

I really really love the concept of this series but I just cannot stand the writing style + so many inconsistencies 😭

writing style: it's SO straightforward which makes it so boring and flat. Also, there's way too much telling instead of actually showing?! On top of that, the authors just describe the conversations between characters instead of giving us the dialogue???? So frustrating.

Super sequel. It is the third book in the interconnected series, and I highly recommend reading it in sequence. All the books follow each couple, but the base story is the same and progresses towards dangerous territory. The concept of the world is extremely addictive, and then adding in love stories with enemies to lovers is just perfect.

This book follows Isolde and Adrien and how their journey to cure the curse takes place. It was full of twists and turns that kept me hooked from the start. You might predict things, but the delivery of each twist is fabulous. The writing is amazing, and seeing all the characters from the past two books is the cherry on the cake.

I am very excited to see how the story will conclude in book four. There was a solid glimpse in the future, but that is a dangerous one, and I’m eager to know how the Fae Queen will behave and how she will be the biggest problem of all. I’m freaking out for Zane as he is an amazing one and I want best for him. Fingers crossed.

✨📚 5-STAR REVIEW: Broken Hearted (Cursed Fae #3) by Leia Stone & Julie Hall 📚✨

WOW, WOW, WOW 😭🙌🏼 every book in this series just gets better and better!! By this point I’m genuinely in love with every single character 🤣 and then the authors introduce new MCs and I fall for them too?! Chaos.

We follow Princess Isolde of the Winter Court, who becomes the next princess to face the curse tearing Faerie apart, after the Summer and Fall princesses disappeared in Ethereum and failed their missions. Now the burden falls to her. Her task? Kill an Ethereum lord and return with his magical black heart.

BUT Isolde knows a truth no one else does: Dawn and Aribella are alive, and everything she’s been told about the Ethereum lords might be a lie 👀🔥

Then she meets the Southern Ethereum lord (hello teal eyes 😭✨), and suddenly she’s caught between loyalty and truth, between duty and the undeniable pull toward someone she was raised to fear. The stakes, the tension, the danger?? PERFECTION.

This book also paved the way for our MMC in book 4 and I’m already obsessed with him, and I haven’t even read his book yet 😭🔥

I loved how the story shifted. Isolde already knew the truth, so we didn’t get that dragged-out “should I kill him??” inner battle. AND the dual POV early on?? Yes please. The romance wasn’t instant either they worked for it, built it slowly, and let it simmer 😏🔥

The world building, the twists, the heart-pounding danger… ALL chef’s kiss. Everything is coming together beautifully for the finale. I’m so excited for book 4… and so sad it’s the last 😭💔✨

✨ Favourite Quotes ✨

📚 “It was the night of the Winter Solstice. The portal was going to open, and I was about to either betray my people or my best friend.”

📚 “I finally knew that it was time. Time to let go of my fears and embrace my future.”

📚 “I love you. I can’t imagine being without you, and I think love is enough. Our love is enough.”

really can’t put this series down!

When Dawn and Aribella appeared in front of Isolde, the Winter Princess, they claimed that the Ethereum lords were their mates and she shouldn’t carve out their hearts as they’ve all been led to believe for generations.

Now Isolde has to decide where her loyalty lies. Can she drive a dagger into the heart of one of these lords despite the immediate attraction she forms with the Southern Ethereum lord with just a glance? Or will she be able to trust the 2 princesses that this has all been just a lie?

It’s definitely starting to get more and more exciting through these books . Isolde is a child traumatised by divorce and I really felt for her. But she’s so strong and so determined and I loved her so much. I love that you also get to read snippets about Dawn and her relationship. I got some Little Mermaid vibes from this book too which I enjoyed!

Another book finished in 24 hours I really can’t put these down!

2.5 stars:

Isolde is the winter court princess & the third princess to head to Ethereum, in order to save their own world, Faerie. The princesses have been told by the summer court queen that in order to cure the curse spreading in their lands, they must take the heart of an Ethereum lord, but are they being told the truth?

Basically each book follows a different princess as she go to Ethereum & my only thing is, it follows the exact same plot each time which makes it predictable & boring at times & I hate to say that as I’ve really enjoyed some of Leia Stone’s books.

Some parts were like reading the last two books however some parts I did enjoy!

Another fantastic instalment in the series. Great storyline involving fated mates, evil witches, a spelled lord, and a winter princess. There is plenty of action and surprises along the way. The ending is most definitely suspenseful. Will the last Lord and princess manage to break the curse, or will it fall to the next generation.
Great strong, well written characters, Isolde was strong and fierce, considering she didn't receive Dawn's training, she managed to overcome many obstacles.

This dynamic duo knows how to write a fast-paced, unputdownable fantasy romance! This is book 3 in this standalone series, but I'd have to suggest reading them in order as the overarching plot starts in book 1 and flows from there.

This installment follows the Winter Court princess, Isolde, while she travels to Ethereum in hopes of finding a way to break the curse without killing one of its lords. She meets Adrien first, but he's already engaged to an awful wench, so he couldn't possibly be her mate, right? How can she and her mate break the curse when she doesn't believe in mates?

Adrien and Isolde are such a fun couple! Adrien has sexy pirate vibes, and Isolde has total Elsa vibes. Opposites attract in this tale of fated mates who don't want to fall in love but have to in order to save both of their realms.

I can't wait to see what Lorelei and Zane have in store for the finale!

4.5 stars. I’ve read each novel in this series as an ARC. My honest review is that I really enjoyed it and it was hard to put down! I like the main characters and while a few elements in this story seemed very predictable, it then took several unexpected turns. Now I’m very eager for the authors to please hurry and finish book 4 so I can find out what happens!

Another great instalment in the Cursed Fae series!

I had my thoughts on the relationship between Adrien and his fiance and I was happy to see that I'd been right! I loved the slow building chemistry between him and Isolde despite her understandable aversion to love.

I'm looking forward to the next instalment and seeing how this series will wrap up and how they will manage to end the curse.

My Initial Thoughts
I was so excited to start the third book in the series and eager to know what was going to happen. To find out what Lord Isolde was going to be fated to! The fact that she fell straight in front of Adrien was a sign I was going to love this and I was not disappointed. Straight away I was able to picture the surrounding areas and build a beautiful image in my mind’s eye.
Plot
The plot has to be my favourite so far! So much danger and Isolde really has to hold her own, with little support and blood witches after her. I just loved how the level of danger really amped up the further into the plot we dived. I couldn’t put my ear piece down as there was never a good time to put the book down!
Characters
Isolde is my favourite faerie princess so far! She has so much fire in her and at times really held her own! I mean she did have to conquer a blood witch for her fated mate and sirens, the belly of the sea and so many other dangers. I liked Adrien but he isn’t my favourite lord, Zane however what a gentleman he was to Isolde! I really love the bond that all the princesses and the lords have and I love seeing how their relationship develops more and more during the next instalments.
Recommend
Yes, everyone who is a fan of dark romantasy needs, I mean needs to read this series!!!
Narrating
The narrating was perfect and really set the vibes for all the characters. How just two people manage this is outstanding!
Overall Wrap up
I’m just loving this series so much! And I’ve now got to the point where I am desperately awaiting the release of book 4 on audiobook so I can enjoy that the same way I have enjoyed the current 3. I really did enjoy how the amount of danger and adventure really amped up and there was not a lol in the storyline. Even as we moved towards the end it was still a huge cliffhanger to end on and the amount of danger we know is moving towards book 4 – hurry up 9th October 25, I need the ending. Like yesterday.
Stars & Spice – 5 stars and this is fade to black romance.

“Worried she’ll never be loved”

“Afraid to believe mates are real”

“Doesn’t want to end up like her parents”

3.5⭐️ - there were elements of other very popular best selling romantasy books (the rebel witch and fourth wing) included in this book.

Broken Hearted is the third book in the Cursed Fae romantasy series. Princess Isolde of the Winter court, daughter of broken vows, child of ice and spell breaker is fierce, brave, loyal, kind, beautiful, curvy and above all resilient. But deep down she has a deep fear of marriage and does not believe in fated mates because of the trauma of her parents, Queen and King consort’s divorce when she was fifteen years old.

It’s her turn to enter the portal to go to the Etherium world to break the curse but the portal takes her to Soleum, the Summer court of the handsome Lord Adrien’s Kingdom and he’s engaged to be married to Elisana.

Isolde is totally focused on her goal to break the curse with the shadow heart and getting back home to her beloved faerie winter court but she’s also fighting her feelings and yearning for her hearts desire and mate.

“I was happy for Dawn and Aribella. They seemed content with their new lives, but I wasn’t going to just shack up with the first etherium Lord who paid a little extra attention to me because we were supposed mates” Isolde

“But even if Adrien was my mate, it didn’t mean anything. I was not going to end up like my parents.” Isolde

I enjoyed the third book, it had summer tropical beach theme vibes with beautiful world building descriptions of Soleum (summer court) and the ocean.

This book had plenty of action, handsome fae lords Adrien, Zane and even Zander and Stryker made appearances in this book, ice wielding and shadow magic powers, blood witches and spells/runes, fated mates, romance (no spice), sirens, pirates, mermaids/merman and plot twists.

I was happy to see the return and scenes with Dawn, Isolde’s best friend and Zander and they were heartwarming. The ending was good with a surprising plot twist and all of the etherium lords coming together to help Zane and Adrien.

“I love you. I can’t imagine being without you, and I think love is enough. Our love is enough.”

If you’re looking for a bit of YA romantasy escapism and short books then check this series out. I will read the final book, Black Hearted to find out what happens with the Spring Court princess Lorelei and hope there’s an original story without similar elements from other popular books. The writing style seemed different in this book compared to the other books.

This book was so good! I felt sad for Isolde because her parents divorced when she was fifteen and it devastated her. Because she was the oldest of seven girls she felt she had to be brave for her sisters. Her mother is the Queen of the Winter Court. And because Princess Aribella never returned to Faerie Isolde had to go into the portal to kill her mate. However, Dawn, Aribella, Zander, Stryker, Zane, & Adrien found a way to project a ghostly image of themselves to explain to her that everything they were ever told about the Ethereum lords was a lie. That they were actually killing their mates & they had a plan to stop the curse. Isolde told no one and trained like she was told. Except she made a crucial mistake. Her words to her mother tipped Queen Lilliana off that she wasn't going to follow the queens plan. Let's face it the queen is a ruthless killing machine. She seems emotionless. Now when Isolde gets to Ethereum she runs into Adrien literally. And he's deliciously without a shirt on the beach. Of course, his clingy wench fiancee isn't too far behind him. Adrien gives her a warm welcome but the wench (I'm just going to keep calling her that because, if the shoe fits) is immediately mean. And unfortunately Adrien caves to all the wenches suggestions. Especially, after drinking a tea the wench keeps insisting he drink. Which raises red flags immediately to Isolde. Isolde learns she needs to wait for Zane to arrive and escort her to the Wise Ones. Everyone assumes they are mates but Isolde feels no special connection to him. When they test the theory it's pretty funny. This leaves them confused. Until they realize Adrien is marrying the wrong woman. Then they figure out that tea is a love potion. Isolde races off to stop their wedding. While Zane goes back to his castle. He found out he has to go to Faerie to help Lorelei. He needs to figure out how to open a portal to Farie. Isolde develops a brotherly bond with Zane who is nothing but kind and sweet. You can tell the poor guy is lonely. Isolde finds out the wedding was moved up & she barely makes it to the wedding on time. Luck is on her side as she sneaks into the castle & finds him. It's a hilarious scene as she shoves him into a closet to try to reason with her brainwashed mate & convince him the wench is a witch. She witnessed her make the tea & use a spell on it. I'll leave the hilarious details of how she solved the problem & kidnapped him from his own wedding. Lol! Now mind you this whole time Isolde is fighting her attraction to him. And she doesn't believe in mates because of what happened to her parents. My thoughts are she didn't marry her mate (her mother) because she never went into Ethereum. The Summer Court champion always went. Isolde never wants to get married so she doesn't have to go through that pain. She was pretty traumatized by the whole experience. Trying to break the love spell placed on Adrien is a horrible experience. It was hard enough to read what he went through. That poor ma had fever, vomited so much he almost couldn't breathe, and had the worst stomach cramps. All while he called out for the wench & practically broke Isolde heart hearing it. When the spell broke they set off for the belly of the sea. There they were to combine their magic into the shadow heart. Pirates attacked on the way. Followed by sirens but Adrien rescued them. And they had a very steamy kiss in order to prove they were mates. Then Queen Lilliana threw Isolde sister through the portal. And poor Seraphina was kidnapped by the wench. Who blackmailed Adrien into taking the potion again. Except this time it didn't work as well because he had bonded with Isolde. While Isolde rushed Seraphina to a healer. The further away she got from Adrien the more painful it was for her. Being so far from her mate made her realize she loved him. She was terrified he would be forced to marry the wench or worse be hurt. This turned out longer than I anticipated so I will let you read the ending because you know I hate to ruin it for you. I will say Dawn & Zander are pregnant with more than one baby. It will be interesting to see if they have all girls, all boys, or a mixture. Normally in these lands they have all males or females.

And the plot thickens! Broken Hearted was a great addition to this series, with an overarching plot of whether the princesses of Faerie and the Ethereum lords will be able to pair up and work together to save their realms from the curse.

This time, it was Isolde and Adrien's turn, and it was just as fast-paced and addicting as the others while still delivering a story of their own. Granted, the biggest difference was knowing that Adrien is already engaged when the story starts, and if I'm honest, it was what made me be on the fence about it, but since we already know there's something off with Elisana and what she's doing, it's certainly not the case of a love triangle here.

I loved the world building, tension, and plot twists that these authors are so known for, and I think it made for an engrossing read that had me flipping the pages for more moments between Isolde and Adrien (their chemistry is so good and that first kiss was perfect!), while also being anxious to see how it all would play out on their journey to collect what they need or figuring out their next steps. I mean sirens, mermaids, and pirates? What more could we want? Lol. The only thing I wasn't as much a fan of was the witches (who play a major part towards the final third), but if you've been following the series, you know that was coming. Still, I loved all the references to summer, the heat/sun and the beach, while also getting to see past characters from the series (like Dawn and Zander, and Aribella and Stryker) while also understanding and getting to know more of Zane, who'll be the hero for the next and final book in the series.

Seriously, I can't believe we're so close to the end, but at the same time, I can't wait to see how it all will be wrapped up. In the meantime, if you've been following the series and impatiently waiting for this one, go grab your copy! You won't be disappointed. ~ 4 stars

This has been one of the best fantasy series I have read! Leia and Julie created pure magic when they put these stories together.

You want to start this series with the first three books; Cold Hearted, Faint Hearted, and Broken Hearted as these build upon each other and will spit you out right where this story begins. This series involves a centuries old curse, several fated mates, forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers, forbidden love….my genre-loving heart was hitting now three times as hard as it was for the first book.

Lorelei, like Isolde, has knowledge of what is going on with the curse, fated mates and the Ethereum lords. She is the sweetest and most gentle of the princesses and is greatly loved. She’s been kidnapped by the summer queen and is being drained of her magic. It will take a bold escape and sacrifice to break the curse.

Zane is the brother and Ethereum lord that is well liked and loved. He wants nothing more than to join his brothers in the finding of his fated mate. His mission is to travel to Faerie and help Lorelei to destroy the curse for good. He has no idea what is in store for him.

This story was phenomenal and just as good as the previous three. It kept me on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen and where we would go next. There were nail-biting moments and times of pure joy. I could not have enjoyed a story or series more. Highly recommend this one and the entire series!
Thank you Leia and Julie for sharing your beautiful gifts with us.

⚜️ Book Title - Broken Hearted
⚜️ Author - Leia Stone & Julie Hall
⚜️ Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Fiction, Romance, fae and Fantasy

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is my honest review.

This interconnected series of books is incredibly easy to binge and each installment flows effortlessly into the next. The writing is quick-paced and interesting, perfect for when you want to get lost in a story without feeling overwhelmed in complex world building or remembering 101 things all happening at once.

Isolde, the FMC , and Adrian, the MMC, make a great duo. Their chemistry on the page was enjoyable, and their dynamic adds depth and intensity to the overarching plot. Whether they’re clashing or getting along, every interaction between them was excellent.

I would recommend this book to others who love Julie or Leia’s other works or easy interconnected series. I’m excited for the next installments in the series, which may be the last and will be keeping an eye out for more works by this author.

Note (How I rate): One is DNF. Two is got there but struggled. Three stars is a good, enjoyable read. Four is an excellent read and five is a comfort read that lingers with me for life (very difficult to get but not impossible)

I liked this one more than the last. The really obvious thing was dealt with quickly and it got on with the story. Truthfully, all conflicts and dramas in here were dealt with quickly. It was a problem/quest presents itself, then it’s instantly solved or undertaken, onto the next. Nothing really builds because of it, because the longest a problem persists (beyond the overarching one for the series) is like two chapters. It’s a super quick read and it ate it up; the fast pacing kept me engrossed and I went with it.
Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas is such a stretch though. These books just put everything out there from the get go, and after that first book there hasn’t been any big twists or reveals. There’s no long game manipulation by a strong character; just a band of fae relying on insta love to heal their kingdoms by basically destroying them first. I could be proved wrong, and maybe the bad guy is actually good and there will be some big betrayal, but it’s pretty straightforward so far. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving it, but there’s nothing in here clever or meticulously devised. This is not sophisticated literature. It’s pretty basic and there’s a lot of telling going on, but it captured me and I didn’t want to put it down.

A good 4.5 stars!
The story flows so smoothly, so much so that if you have forgotten what the first 2 books were, they each give simple recaps that makes it easy enough to follow on.

There’s a few reviews saying it TELLS you what’s going on rather than SHOWING you. I agree. There is a lot of monologuing rather than dialoging. But I just thought that was the writing style. It didn’t bother me much. It was nice in the way that I didn’t have to thing too hard after several world building books. I liked the break of an easy read.
I flew through this book.

All the etherium brothers have such a soft heart. I was worried they were all going to blend and meld together seemingly the same person. But they’re all their own person and personalities.

Dawn and Isolde being such close friends was very refreshing. Knowing that they finally had someone to help them carry through their mission.
There was a lot of back and forth to the territories in this book. Which was fine! It actually made me learn a bit more about the world and the curse.
New characters were introduced.

I can’t wait to find out how they finally defeat the curse killing both realms, and rebuild their homes.
I hope they thwart the Queen and she realizes how much sooner they could have all gone home if they had help.
