Addictive, fast paced, dramatic, and hard to put down! The Honeymoon was instantly gripping and sucked me in immediately. Can you imagine finding your spouse cheating on you on your wedding day???????? Talk about a heartbreaking shocker! What's a girl to do but go on her honeymoon alone to lick her wounds and try to figure out what to do next!
Kelly goes to Crete alone after Ryan passionately kissing another woman on their wedding day. The calls and the texts begin to come in from Ryan. Kelly hoped this would be a peaceful trip to figure out what to do next, but it turned into a drama filled nightmare. The shocks, twists, and 'holy crap' moments kept coming in and I was all there for it! I loved every second of it. But like all things, the honeymoon must come to an end. Then there is a shift in the book. I felt as if I had whiplash! Just when I thought I had seen all there was to see, more came in and things got really OTT after that. This is where the author lost a few happy readers, I believe. I sat there shocked as well. The beginning of the book was a five-star read for me. I loved every single page of it. But when things took a turn, I had to find my footing once again. I imagine this is how the character of Kelly felt as well from the day she got married.
This book put Kelly (and this reader) through the ringer in this twist and shock filled book. I thought I knew exactly where this book was going and then *Bam* it took off in another direction. This book may have readers wondering just how well they know those in their lives.
Gemma Rogers piled on the drama, tension, emotions, and catty comments like the pro she is. This book had my jaw hanging open, my blood boiling, and my expectations all over the place. This book was like being on a roller coaster ride. It was thrilling, had me feeling anxious, then left me with the air sucked out of me.
I enjoyed the first part of the book more than the last half but must give Gemma Rogers props for writing a book that I could not put down. I read this in one day as I was glued to the pages.
Addictive, shocking, maddening, and tense!
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
It really annoys me when a book is marketed as a psychological thriller (or any genre) and it ends up going in a different direction. Once that happens for me, I tend to check out. I would say this is more women’s fiction, which is fine but not what I signed up for.
I’ve never read a book by Gemma Rogers until now. The premise sounded really intriguing: Woman discovers her husband cheating on her with her best friend at their wedding, flees without telling anyone and goes on the honeymoon without him. Everything is peachy keen until this loser shows up denying everything.
The first 50ish% was the honeymoon. That’s it. The last 50ish% was after they returned home. The story took a weird turn and I felt like I was reading a completely different book.
When I read a thriller, I expect twists and turns. I expect suspense. I expect shocking moments. This book had none of that. It was fast paced, but probably because I skimmed the last 30%.
I doubt I’ll recommend this one to anybody or read another by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my advanced copy to read and review.
A fast paced unputdownable domestic thriller recommendation!
The Honeymoon by Gemma Rogers comes out this October and I am quite excited for you who are going to pick it up!
I just kept my expectations neutral when I started reading it today and guess what? I just couldn’t put it down 🫣
I made breakfast and lunch together (brunch) so that I didn’t waste any more time without the book. I had so much crazy time reading this one.
Plot: She sees her husband cheating on their wedding day with someone close. Then and there she flies away to their honeymoon destination. But things will get just worse and worse!
Now you won’t be able to trust anyone in your life after you read this thriller!
Such a fast paced read and I am sure I am going to pick up the other books by the author.
The characters are so realistic and yes, the writing wastes no words unless it’s required which I feel must be the main ingredients of writing books specifically thrillers!
The book delivers and yes, go for it when it comes out!
It’s short. It’s dark. It’s twisted. Lots of domestic drama and yes, expect crime and violence.
A new book by this author and I always know there is going to be a twisty tale and a great read to come And I wasn’t disappointed! Imagine being in your perfect world, married for a few hours and so happy…looking forward to your honeymoon and on cloud 9 when you literally see something that shatters everything and changes the direction of your life……. Well this happens to Kelly and so instead of enjoying the happiest day of her life she is leaving it in a taxi headed for Crete, alone I loved the surprise at the holiday resort when Kelly gets yet another shock and really then from that point the story goes deeper and more revelations appear and things get tricker than tricky A really good build up to the end and a surprisingly sad ending even though warranted, Again a fast paced exciting read from this top author whose books never fail to entertain and keep you hooked, loved it.
Enjoyed this fun thriller from start to finish! It did seem a bit slow at times but still was enjoyable and the ending was great! There were a few parts for me that fell flat but still a strong, fun read!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this arc in exchange for my honest review!
Who are these folks giving this book a 4 or 5? I’m not sure what genre this book belongs in, but it’s not a thriller. Did I miss a twist or something? What did I just read?
Ok I love this author her thrillers are always so twisty and unique but this one wasn’t that great for me!
This one started out very strong I was hooked instantly! But around the half way point it became a bit predictable for me and the “thriller” aspect in this book was lacking!
Also I listened to this one on audiobook and the narration was kinda irritating, that being said this author will always be an auto buy author for me, I listened and loved so many of her books last year!
From the moment I started reading The Honeymoon, I didn’t experience any lull in the pace of the story, which can sometimes happen with novels in the Mystery Thriller genre. I really appreciated that I found it hard to put the book down. The short chapters were effective in building conflict and tension throughout the story, which is the reason behind my five-star rating
I’ve been getting into mystery thrillers lately, and this book was right up my street. The Honeymoon was such an easy, addictive read — I flew through it! I really liked the characters and honestly had no clue how it was going to end, which made it even better. It kept me guessing the whole way. If you’re after a fun, twisty thriller you can get stuck into, I’d definitely recommend this one.
The Honeymoon was incredible. Kelly catches her brand new husband in a compromising situation…during their wedding reception. She heads to their honeymoon solo, and all hell breaks lose when Ryan joins her in Crete…there were tons of twists and turns in this book that kept me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the drama.
This was so good. Really fast paced. Definitely a “popcorn thriller” it’s a quick read too.
If you are looking for a quick thriller to get out of a slump this would be great for that. There were a few unexpected twists but nothing too crazy. I like that as everything was unraveling it was fully explained what was going on in the bigger picture.
I enjoyed the way the author wrote it I would read something by her again.
1⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advanced copy of The Honeymoon.
Kelly sees her husband of a few hours sleeping with his best friend’s wife on there wedding day. She is crushed and decides to go on her honeymoon alone. Except a few days later her husband shows up with his best friend and his wife. She starts to realize she does not know her husband as well as she thought.
This book was definitely not what I expected. I feel like I was reading two different books with the first half being about the honeymoon and the second half being a totally different story. The book was trying to tell too many different stories in my opinion. I was not a fan at all.
I was so excited to dive into this book, expecting a gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller—but I’ve been left utterly baffled.
I kept reading, waiting for that rush of suspense or a jaw-dropping twist to pull me in, but it never materialised. The pacing felt sluggish, the plot was predictable, and I struggled to connect with the characters or care about what was happening. I’m honestly not sure what was meant to be thrilling about it; the whole thing just fell rather flat for me.
I really wanted to enjoy this, but it ultimately left me feeling disappointed and a bit confused. Perhaps it just wasn’t my cup of tea, but if you’re after a truly captivating psychological thriller, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.
Atmospheric and realistic. Another great thriller by Gemma Rogers. I felt Kelly was brave to go on her honeymoon alone. I’ve never been to Crete, and the hotel with luxury rooms was very well described. All the surroundings were so visual.
I liked Nico, Janice and Janice’s husband as well as Kelly’s sister Ruby. I felt angry and disappointed in Ryan.
As always, Gemma Rogers’ writing style had me hooked, and the pacing was perfect.
Thanks to Gemma Rogers and Boldwood Books for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
I feel like I been hoodwinked and bamboozled. I went into this book thinking it was a thriller but low and behold it was just women's fiction. Yeah, some shady stuff was going on, but it definitely shouldn't have been listed as a thriller. It started off good because I was invested from jump, but it took a turn at about 65% to try to fit that "thriller" genre I guess and just fell flat. It was a crazy twist that had me shocked for sure, but it was still just okay for me. I wanted to love it so much.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I could not finish this one. Woman finds husband cheating on her at her own wedding. Woman goes on honeymoon alone after hiding husband's passport. Same woman cheats on him while on honeymoon. Husband shows up with the woman he cheated with and her husband!!!! Are you serious?????
The Honeymoon by Gemma, Rogers, when newly wed Kelly steps out at her reception to get some fresh air. The last thing she expects to see his husband Ryan with the best man’s wife, Liz. reeling from the shock and betrayal on what was supposed to be the best day of her young life. Kelly decides to take the only route she can think of and flees to their honeymoon in Greece. The first night there she is worried about Ryan showing up despite hiding his passport, but she still tries to relax at the bar where she meets Nico, who will become her only solace on this crazy trip. because Ryan finds his passport and shows up like nothing happened, and when she tells him what she saw and why she’s leaving, he blows it off and gaslights her or at least tries, but to make matters worse that night at dinner, she’s shocked to see Bobby and Liz, also or joining them on the honeymoon from hell. when she tries to refuse hanging out with the other couple, Ryan tells her to put her big girl panties on because she isn’t leaving him and if she does, it will be to her financial ruin not to mention he helps pay for her dad‘s care. Liz wants nothing more than to catch a flight home but going home may not be the safe Haven. She believes it to be I have skipped a lot of events that happened like how she was almost killed on their excursions and so much more that caused me to believe although worth rooting for that Kelly was an idiot. despite she reacted like a normal person in most situations, there were other things that made me think she wasn’t that bright not to mention at the end of the book. Someone saved her life and not for the first time and yet she tells this person she never wants to see them again… I mean, I guess I get it but not really. Having said that this really was a great intoxicating read that I found hard to put down and I know people say that and don’t mean it, but I mean it this book I found to be a great read and Kelly is definitely a person to root for irregardless of the fact, everyone else turned out to be terrible I definitely recommend this book, if you love great thriller stories with characters that respond like normal people then you’ll definitely enjoy this book. I certainly did. #NetGalley, #BoldWoodBooks, #GemmaRogers, #TheHoneymoon,.
Thank you for the opportunity to preview The Honeymoon. This is not what I expected. A couple who are high school sweethearts have a lavish wedding. No expenses spared. But the bride, Kelly, sees her new husband in the embrace of her best friend. Suddenly she realizes that she’s not the only person who is going to have fun. She goes off by herself to enjoy her honeymoon in Crete. Saddened and devastated Kelly feels like her life is over. But her new husband, Ryan, is determined to find Kelly and stay married. And who does he bring with him on the honeymoon? His lover who is Kelly’s friend and her husband who is his friend. A honeymoon from hell begins. But Ryan has more secrets and lies and soon Kelly realizes she is going to be unhappily married if she doesn’t make some changes. But how can she get rid of her husband and live happily ever after. Not with the the blow up that happens and soon her life is in jeopardy as well as everything she holds dear to her. Nothing is sacred including her life. Good book. 3.5 stars
Thank you to my partners, Rachel’s Random Resources, NetGalley, and Boldwood Books, and the author. I appreciate the gifted eARC, and I am leaving this review voluntarily!
1. 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 - Just a thought I had but I think I would’ve just relocated to a different hotel or resort (or Nico’s place) if I was Kelly. That way Ryan wouldn’t be able to find me so easily.
2. 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐓𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 - Just when Kelly thinks she has discovered the people who have deceived her, she keeps finding more and more people that knew all along. She just couldn’t seem to find her footing in this department.
3. 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 - How quickly one can fall out of love and back into it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, that love switch would be immediately turned off for me, too, had I found my hours-long husband in a compromising position with anyone. And why not find someone new on your solo honeymoon!
4. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 - What ends up happening to Ryan is really just karma. People just need to make some smarter decisions in life and be open with those around them. I didn’t feel any remorse for his demise.
5. 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 - I don’t know for sure, but I feel like this might have been a bit of a cliffhanger, Ms. Rogers. If it smells like a cliffhanger and looks like one, it must be one, right?
Kelly, the main character, finds something out nobody ever wants to find out. I don't know whether is worse in her case, still floating on cloud nine or if it's worse when you have been married for a lot longer.
I understand why she reacts like this and I admire her for it; I would not act like her, oh no. Not at all!!!
When you think this is the biggest problem she has to deal with, you better think again.
I loved the premise and the twist and turns the author has added to make tis a very addictive read.
The author has never disappointed me and she always creates fantastic books. They are never too long, because she does not waste time and space by using too much descriptions and details that do not add anything to the story.
I love her storytelling and am looking forward to her next piece of art. 5 stars
Thank you to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for my honest review.
I inhaled this book in less than a week. It's a fast paced romance that has a beginning that really draws you in.
I like the concept behind this novel. A bride catches her new husband and her best friend hooking up on her wedding day??? What???? Crazy!
This novel is not without flaws. The main character doesn't really have a backbone and there's not a huge amount of character development. I spent a big chunk of time questioning her dumb trust in others and constantly lying to everyone. (Seems like a contradiction, doesn't it?)
That being said, I read until the end and I enjoyed this book. The plot moves at a fast pace and there are a lot of twists and turns.
Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC.
This books was not it, so simple and basic and needed something more thrilling. I’ve read a lot of thrillers now and need someone very out there to win me over. The plot just kept going and going when it could of ended another pointless plot twist was thrown in to drag it and half the time was very unnecessary. It was fast paced and an easy read but I wouldn’t be rushing to to recommend it. Probably the only thing I actually liked about the book was the romance between nico and the main character
