What Goes Around
Ghosted.
It wasn’t the first time, I doubted it would be the last. But damned if I’d give the same guy the opportunity for a replay.
Except, it was him. He of the dreamy eyes and rumbling baritone; a mystery man who ten years ago spent fifteen minutes with me on a balcony sharing dreams, laughter and a visceral attraction.
I thought could be the one. I swore he thought the same.
Except he promised to call. And didn’t.
Now, years later, he holds the key to my career and I hold the key to his legacy.
The dreamy eyes and rumbling baritone are still there. The hot gazes and unexplainable attraction are still there.
But the laughter is gone, replaced with a cold determination–and an arranged engagement that he swears he’s not on board with.
All I want to do is get on with building my brand to the stratosphere. But the further our project progresses and the more I learn about him, about the last ten years, the more I want to comfort him…and myself…in his arms, in his bed, in his life.
He says he wants the same…but I fell for that once already. Can I risk it all again?
Ten years changes a person. Right?
(This is a second chance romance with a splash of intrigue.)
Note: I recently updated the cover; the content and title are identical!

About the author
Tamala C. Jones
3 books20 followersI'm a Southern girl, born, bred, and educated in North Carolina. I'm the daughter of a high school English teacher and a US Army Master Sergeant who was a jump master with the 82nd Airborne. I first tried my hand at writing romance novels when I was twelve and already enamored with Harlequin romance and historical romance. Even then, I wanted to see myself represented in the stories I read. I deferred the dream, starting but not finishing several novels as side projects while earning a doctorate and building a career in academia. In the meantime, I'm living my own romance, married to the man who swept me off my feet over Colt 45 and homemade spaghetti. We have three beautiful children, two cats, and a dog. When I'm not spending time with my family or writing love stories, you can find me reading them or doing the work that, for now, pays the bills.

This book took me through a rollercoaster of emotions and all of them had me either screaming, pulling my hair, then resort to pulling my husband’s hair (he expects this when I read- he’s strong) and if I didn’t spend so much for my nails, it would have me biting them too! I’ll start with all the things I liked and thought were well done.
The representation of the women in ‘What Goes Around?’ - *chef kisses* Each woman that we were introduced to was multifaceted. No two were alike and it was fantastic to read about a ‘villain’ that was not black and white (Liz - definitely not Juanita; Juanita can go sit in hell on an iron chair). As much as we were not expected to root for Liz, the glimpse we go into her life as a wealthy woman raised for the sole fact of marriage to a wealthy man and to only produce heirs and spares - it was enough for readers to empathise with her. What else would you do when you have found that your entire purpose was being snatched away from you?
1. You try to bargain - she did (telling him to be discreet, etc.)
2. You go along with something you KNOW in your gut is off kilter (Juanita & Shanice, looking at you here)
3. You simply resign yourself to your fate, despite not wanting this for yourself
This must be said, but as much as I loathe Juanita, the woman does nice-nasty so well. Very aristocratic of her which was on brand for the character and her background.
I loved all the talk of fashion! The details provided with the fabrics, varying textiles, how styling work, the intricacies definitely made me think either the author is a fashion student herself, or she did IMMENSE research into the world before writing. It truly felt as though I was reading from the perspective of an executive creative director and I fawned over it. That leads me to another thing I quite enjoyed about this story. The focus on both romance and business.
Readers got inside detailed views into the running of the business. Board meetings, CEO discussions, planning, vetting, shareholders, launch events, etc. Usually, authors gloss over the daily lives of their MCs by having them become a shell of themselves once they have found their other halves with a magical author wand (or in this case, pen) ‘Poof! You are now dickmatised forever. You have no life outside of X! Remember that job you had before meeting X? No, well neither do I!’ *insert evil author laugh* It is something I found grating because, well, characters exist outside of each other and yes, we love them and want to see them together, but I want to see them interact with their friends, colleagues and go about their affairs too. I got just that here and you know what? I enjoyed it! I loved reading about our big boss executive in her creative process and getting big things done. OK?!!
Let’s talk about the communication between our MCs. *applause* Yessss!! They are both grown and it. Was. Shown. They had no time for petty misunderstandings and miscommunication. From the onset, Abe (who for some reason in my mind’s eye, I picture as Jalen Hurts- HAWT) laid his intent on the table and Cass/Andi did not go in blind and I loved that. Also, therapy mentioned? The psych major in me is doing the happy dance.
The communication was why the conflict made little sense to me. I can see where Cass was coming from, but it was out of line for her character to not hear him out at all. He had never lied or given any reason to doubt him, so I wasn’t really buying that and this where the story took a turn and started losing stars from me. The plot felt SUPER, SUPER contrived. In a story that had been for the most part believable, this came across as very telenovela and not in a good way. On top of that, the way the villains were revealed was very deus ex machina I didn’t like it and it took me out of the story a bit. The entire last act felt a bit mishandled and a bit rushed. Liz, who had been very rational up until that point did a complete 180 and I guess she had to because the plot was contingent on her being a complete airhead. I found myself rolling my eyes so hard during this act and I couldn’t wait for it to end. Or at least return to the story I had been reading up until everything started going haywire.
Then there was the whole thing about Cass (it was in the prologue) but I don’t think we learned anything about her past. Abe’s mother alluded to knowing about it but then Abe just goes, ‘It’s a long story.’ No sir, tell us the story. So it was like we go that prologue for it to go nowhere and I was most cross because I really wanted to see where that went. The rest of it was kind of just told and we never really saw the villains get their comeuppance for their heinous act-even Liz. After she met up with them at Abe’s place and they told her the truth, it was like she was dropped off the face of the Earth even though she played a huge part in this.
The dialogue was fine, but when the MCs started talking to their friends, Gogo for Cass and Abe with his cousin and they used slangs, it read as unnatural. NB- Full disclosure: Though I am Black, I am not African American so this might only read as unnatural to me and not African Americans. It was jarring and read somewhat stilted a lot of the times. The flow was not there. I know the author wanted to convey the code-switch between the different classes, but I felt that the conversation flows could have been more seamless. In the same vein, I do appreciate how though Abe was wealthy beyond Cass/Andi’s wildest dreams, he had a tightened leash to fulfill his responsibilities to step in for their heir while Cass, though not wealthy, had no such leash. That was pretty well conveyed.
Margeaux’s and Cass/Andi’s relationship was beautiful to read and it brought tears to my eyes reading about how they motivated each other to rise above despite being separated. It was most emotional though short. The chemistry between the leads was also well done. I liked that they were both drawn to each other but not in an immature way. The slow build and eventual succumbing to their base urges was most … salacious. Lol. The spicy scene was good too. That London hotel scene *fans face* which hotel in London was that? Because London hotels are SMALL. Then again, Abe is LEAGUES out of my tax bracket. Overall, I enjoyed the book - that climax, notwithstanding, I oscillated between 4/4.5 stars but that bloody climax really swung the story in a different direction for me and then there were the loose ends that were not satisfactorily concluded for me. 3.5/4 stars.

This amazing story constantly reminded me of why I hate BULLIES! Abe's father and Elizabeth's mother were the absolute worse. Talk about an abuse of power.
Abe and Cassandra had the right to choose who they wanted to be with. But the evil machinations they had to fight against were mind - blowing!!!!
Some authors study to hone their magical writing skills. Others are born with them. Miss Tamala was born with this gift! She developed her characters within an inch of their lives. That's why it was so easy to connect with Abe and Cassandra and to hope they defeated their enemies.
However, just wondering, does Cassandra ever find out who and what happened to her "real" parents? Also the constant use of the "f" word soon became tedious and annoying. Other than that, great story!!!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This story follows Cassandra and Abe. Cassandra has just gotten her dream job. On the day she is to be introduced she finds out the man she shared a brief connection with 10 years ago. Abe’s life changed drastically since he first met Cassandra. After losing his brother he takes on the roles as CEO at his family’s textile business. As dedicated to his brother he fills the role but not without issues. His father and the board members seem to want him to fail.
This was a slow burn. The connection between the main characters was great. I just wish them getting together happened way sooner. Overall I enjoyed this one

The book What Goes Around by Tamala C. Jones is wonderful. It grabs the reader’s attention from the beginning and holds on to the very end. The main characters Abe and Cassandra meet at an upscale event, she is a part of the wait staff and he is one of the attending guests. From the beginning they have a connection, but sometimes life gets in the way. For the two characters it takes ten years before they reconnect. The story has many twists and turns that interfere and enhance their connection. This was a slow burn romance, that is worth the time. Looking forward to reading more from this author

Great Story
Even though I received this book as an ARC I also go it myself on kindle that just how much I loved the story of Abe and Cassandra. Cassandra was amazing over coming all the obstacles that came her way. Abe was your typical rich guy and that made me love him so much more. This story will have you wanting more and wondering what happens next job well done Tamala.

Well this was such a good story from start to end that I immediately began book 2, even though it was 4am.
Life can throw some things at you and you think you won't make it, but then you do and sometimes you say, it can't get any worst. But then something insane happens and you're left to wonder if fate is just intentionally choosing to make you suffer after bringing such joy into your world. That's what happened to Cassandra and Abe after finding each other again. And the negative influence of scheming narcissistic parents should never be understated, especially when they know your dreams and have the means and unscrupulous desire to manipulate your whole lives to suit their own goals.

Subira: Swahili for Patience
Amazing!! A love story with a bit of mystery. First, the chemistry between Abe and Andi was undeniable; the first and second time around. Then, there were the random clues dropped thru-out that kept me intrigued...
I loved Cassandra's character. She was grateful for the opportunity with Heirloom but also realized she'd worked hard to position herself for that opportunity. She definitely deserved it and was up for the challenge presented....
There were questions left unanswered that I'm hoping will be addressed in the second book of this series. Who sent the picture?? Who was responsible for "the prologue"?? Where's JW now?? What's up with BW and JB??
I got this book during the BRAE. It's my first read by TCJ, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. On to Book 2! Can't wait to see the mystery and love continue to unfold.

This was my first book by Tamela Jones, but it definitely won’t be my last I already downloaded book 2 of the series I loved how this book not only had the slow burn of a romantic relationship between the two main characters, but also the secrets and mystery that this book held. I’m intrigued and I can’t wait to jump into book two!!

Loved it!
I really like her writing style, it pulled me in from beginning to end. Although this was not a cliff hanger, I'm anxious to read more about this couple. So I'm hoping for a follow up please.

Some crimes are crimes are opportunity, while other crimes are premediated, carefully (or not) crafted for optimum success. There is an essential question that has to be asked to find the answer ... who had the MOST to gain from the death of a person or persons. When you find the answer to that question, you find your killer(s).
Now ...
During a catering gig, Cassandra (Andi) Williams meets one of the partygoers when he interrupts her short break. She's out on the balcony sketching because she's brimming with design ideas. Abe Walker looks over her shoulder and offers a suggestion that intrigues her. When her break is over, he asks for her phone number and she reluctantly gives it to him.
Abe and his older brother Godrick are celebrating a big night for their family ... both are happy for very different reasons—that night doesn't go as planned for either brother.
Fast forward, 10 years later and Abe is now the CEO of HeirLOOM and he wants to expand their business into fashion. A candidate is selected without his input to create a fashion line for HeirLOOM. The past returns when Andi is the designer hired to take HeirLOOM to the next level in the Fashion World. Abe remembers Andi for both good and bad reasons.
He doesn't need the Andi problem because he's trying to hang on to his CEO job and the only way to do that is to marry the woman that was once engaged to his brother. How ya' like that stipulation! When your heart is slowly starting to embrace a different future—not so much! Highly Recommended: Read It!

What Goes Around is a page-turner from the beginning. It starts with a mystery that spans years. As the title indicates, everything comes around in the end.
The characters make the story. They resonate and are so believable that you forget this is a fictional story. Andi (aka Cassandra), Destiny, and Margeaux will remind you of your BFFs or someone you know. Their vibe is relatable and refreshing. Abe, Vince, and Warrick are so solid that you may get jealous that they are not your friends. Not to name names, but there are some genuinely nasty, despicable folks in this story. Regardless, these characters keep you engaged in the story.
What I like most about this book is that it has a little of everything and melds together nicely in the storyline. The drama is high and intense, and the mystery, though easy to figure out, is intriguing. Sometimes, I laughed out loud, felt the heat of the steamy romance, got irritated with how entitled the wealthy can behave, felt sadness during heartbreaks, and felt elation with Andi's triumph and her and Abe's happily ever after. We were also given an insider look into the Black elite.
What Goes Around is a very entertaining book. It left one mystery unsolved: the "who done it" and why it is presented in the prologue. If it is who I suspect, that individual is even more despicable than I thought.

i could not put this book down!! From the outset readers will be drawn into a world where love, resilience, and personal growth take center stage.
It’s a unique take on a second chance (don’t even know if one could call it that since the first chance was just a seed planted but not given a chance to grow until 10 years later). Nonetheless the plot unfolds with a series of unexpected twists that keep you engaged and guessing.
Jones writing is nothing short of poetic. Her prose invites readers to savor each moment, enhancing the overall reading experience while at the same time not allowing the prose to feel too extra and out of touch. I loved how her style of writing complements the themes of love and redemption beautifully, allowing readers to feel the weight of the characters’ journeys.
Subtly or not so subtly interspersed throughout the narrative are snippets of Black excellence. Although it wasn’t the main storyline, I loved the arc of the FMC and how she was able to overcome so much by her grit and preserverance. I cheered for her without at all feeling sorry for her. While as a reader, I’m so curious about Andi’s family, I respect her decision as a woman that her chosen family is more than enough for her.
And Abe? The way he loves Andi? #swoon

Good debut
This is a really good debut book by Ms. Jones. I loved the characters, Andi and Abe. They originally met many years ago and reconnect after life has hurt them both. I thought the supporting characters were great and I loved their friendships. It was clear that Abe loved Andi and Andi loved him throughout the story. The story opens on a bit of a mystery that never is really solved at the end. And in general, the ending was rushed. I love the way the author took her time with the story which is why I surprised that the ending was rushed and still left some unanswered questions.
Overall I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

surprises all around
Well I really don’t know what to say. How interesting is it when you don’t know who you are because you grew up in the system. This is a very interesting tale of a talented fashion designer who grew up in foster care. Awesome writing and a great page turner. I really enjoyed Cassandra and Abe’s story. Full of love, happiness, controlling, sadness and friendships to die for!
Happy Reading‼️

She never gives anyone more than one time but that looked like it might change with him. He promised to call but he never did and now years later he is the one standing in her way. He needs something from her just as she wants from him. Will they fall in love? Will they both get what they want? See how it all goes

What Goes Around
This was a very good debut novel from this author. It did start off a bit slow for me but it picked up as the story went on. You could really feel the love between Abe and Andi. I loved the side characters (minus the trifling people lol) and the banter between the characters was very realistic. I truly enjoyed this HFN story and can’t wait to see what’s next!

Great read
This was definitely an intriguing story. Kept me wanting to see what happened next. I would love to see what happens next because I definitely think some going on with War and Liz. There were definitely unanswered questions and lots of situations that I'm sure the author intends to address and i look forward to it

Great read!!
I really enjoyed reading Cassandra and Abe's love story. I was so true to life. At one point I really thought this is how my relationship was when I was in my 30's and was just realizing what and who I wanted to be. Well done!

This was a new author and I am sooo in love with her first book!!! I am hoping she will continue with some of the other characters from her story and maybe give us more clarity in an extra bonus or novella about the beginning of the book. Kudos to Ms. Jones!!!

Okay first off this was written so well! I really felt the chemistry between the MCs. I thought the plot worked out well and I also felt that the third act break up was handled so uniquely compared to other romance books out there. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Loved every minute of it!
Honestly one of the top books I’ve read this year. (And I’ve read quite a few) I finished it in two days and I can’t wait to read more from Tamara Jones. I’m left with one question though - who sent the picture to Cassandra’s house? Lol

Abe & Cassandra
As a first-time reader for Ms. Jones. This was a good read story, although Abe was way too old to be afraid of his father.

During the first paragraphs of her new novel, What Goes Around, Tamala C. Jones skillfully grabs the reader’s attention and does not allow for much breathing room for much of her well-paced and emotionally engaging story. When the story starts, we are privy to a mystery that then simmers under the surface of this angsty and complex love story. Abe and Cassandra meet at an upscale affair, where she is a part of the serve staff and he is one of the guests, their connection is undeniable and swift. He gets her number, fully intending to call but life intrudes, and it will be another ten years before they are able to explore their initial connection. When they meet again, they are in very different places in life: Abe is the reluctant head of his family’s fashion empire and Cassandra has made good on her goal to become premier fashion designer. Destiny has put them together once again; however, life and old enemies seem determined to keep them apart. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to others by this author, Ms. Jones has crafted a lovely and well-written story with likable characters and several unexpected twists.

...Comes Around
What Goes Around is the love story of an African-American male, Abe Walker and an African-American/White female Cassandra (Andi) Williams. They meet the first time at an upscale function attended by mostly wealthy Blacks. There's an immediate attraction and though she gives him her number, it's ten years later before they meet again.
Then he's the CEO of HeirLoom Textiles, the company where she's just been hired as the executive creative designer of HeirLoom’s inaugural fashion line. As it was a blind interview process, he doesn't realize who she is until he sees her picture the night he's to introduce her as the Company's Executive Creative Director. He recognized her because of her mismatched eyes though she sometimes wears contacts. Ostracized him but thinks he ghosted her because he never called her.
There are so many minderstandings, unfortunate circumstances and evil and crazy people that keep them apart.
The book was slow in parts and picked up in the last 25%, and then rushed to the ending. They get a HFN but you're left with so many questions that aren't resolved in this book.

The stark, brutal and wretched beginning to this emotive story lends itself to a feeling of trepidation as each page unfolds. The intricate weaving together of the skeins that move the reader through. All the time aware that nothing is as it seems. Both the past lives of Abe and Cassandra leads us to hope but the realities and expectations of their present denotes that hope is for fools especially as the reader is fully aware of what has happened to Cassandra when she was a baby. Treachery, betrayal, hurt, humiliation at every turn. It is really hard to see how light can infiltrate but Tamala does it and does it well. Yeah!
