The Single Dads of Seattle #6

New Year's With the Single Dad

Rate this book
A lot can happen in twenty-four hours ...

Welcome to Seattle, the Emerald City and home to The Single Dads of Seattle. Ten sexy single fathers who play poker every Saturday night, have each other's backs, love their children without quarter, and hope to one day find love again.
This is Emmetts story ...

Single dad of Seattle, Dr. Emmett Strong doesn't believe in soulmates. Not since his ex-wife blindsided him with divorce papers, breaking not just his heart, but his daughter's, as well. Eighteen months later, it's just the two of them and he intends to keep it that way. He won't hurt Josie again by bringing another woman into her life. However, fate has other plans and on New Year's Eve, sparks instantly fly when he bumps into the intriguing and beautiful Zara.

Single mom and flower shop owner, Zara Olsen, has no time -- or patience -- for wishy-washy men who can't commit., so she's definitely not going to fall for the unavailable doctor. But when Emmett keeps getting thrown into her path, and the two wind up at the same New Year's Eve party, she wonders if fate is trying to tell her he's not so unavailable after all. He's funny and kind, the chemistry between them is sizzling and it's almost midnight. It must be time for a kiss. But when she finally gives into their attraction, she begins to regret it when Emmett starts acting strange.

Can Emmett set aside the past and reach for the bright future he could have with Zara, or will this New Year's with the Single Dad end up being one Zara will remember, but would rather forget?

**Note: This book can be read as a standalone. It includes lots of steamy scenes, cursing, and of course as with all my books, this has an HEA and no cliffhanger or cheating. If you like single dads who take charge, this book is for you.

A Canadian West Coast baby born and raised, Whitley is married to her high school sweetheart and together they have two beautiful daughters and a fluffy dog. She spends her days making food that gets thrown on the floor, vacuuming Cheerios out from under the couch and making sure that the dog food doesn't end up in the air conditioner. But when the kids are at school and it's not quite wine o'clock, Whitley sits down, avoids the pile of laundry on the couch, and writes.

A lover of all things decadent; wine, cheese, chocolate and spicy erotic romance, Whitley brings the humorous side of sex, the ridiculous side of relationships and the suspense of everyday life into her stories. With single dads, firefighters, Navy SEALs, mommy wars, body issues, threesomes, bondage and role-playing, Whitley’s books have all the funny and fabulously filthy words you could hope for.

Which makes Her wonder if She can take the Chance...
To spend "New Year's with the Single Dad!"

But the aftermath is a huge Stinging Blow...
Maybe "New Year's with the Single Dad" was a BIG Mistake,
Especially as He's treating Her like She gave Him an STD!

I have read and loved each and everyone of the Single Dads of Settle series (this one has been given to me as an ARC); These are all stand alone but for your reading enjoyment and to get to know the characters I would read them all!

Emmett is our next dad – a 40 year ER doctor with a young daughter; he and his wife divorced 18 months ago and he still cannot understand why his wife; his soulmate left him; he felt that he was a good father, husband and provider so when he was served with papers he was devasted. Emmett now mistrusts women, doesn’t want to introduce to his daughter to anyone for fear she will get too attached. But on New Years Eve fate steps in not once but on four occasions on in one day!

How you may ask? In the form of Zara 45 divorced – hasn’t had it easy either and considers that she could have graduated from the school of hard knocks and has become a good observer of people ever since her ex said he didn’t want children then went on to have 2 with someone else. So a year after her divorce she had a son with her gay friend. But Zara hasn’t given up on love and when she first meets Emmett at the coffee shop, then again at the ER then the florist that she owns and final the New years eve party held by Emmetts best friend and her client she thinks that maybe next year is going to be different. The sparks between the two are there but Emmett keeps blowing hot (and I mean sizzingly hot) and cold. When they children go missing out the party and then finally find Emmett completely turns cold to that point that Zara believes that fate got it wrong and she wishes the new year back at home on her own.

Can Emmett’s friends and his daughter convince him to take a chance or will next year be the same as all the rest – lonely!

It is so refreshing that these stories have the hero's and heroines in their thirty to early forties - I particularly wish more books did! Well done Whitely Cox

5 star review New Year's With The Single Dad (The Single Dads of Seattle #6) by Whitley Cox

Every time I read a new book in the series I fall more and more for all the dads in The Single Dads of Seattle series. New Years With The Single Dad is Dr. Emmett Strong and single mom Zara Olsen’s story and what a fabulous story it was.

Their children JoJo and Nolan almost steal the book out from under their parents as they had some of the best lines in the book.

A chance meeting at a coffee shop is the start of Emmett and Zara’s adventures and when they continue to meet, could it be the universe showing them the path it has in store for them? Meeting again at Daisy and Riley’s New Year’s Eve party, Emmett and Zara get hot and heavy together , but is that all it is?

Badly burnt by his ex wife’s lies and betrayal Emmett has no intention of opening himself up to love again, or allowing his daughter JoJo to get hurt. That is until fate steps in and keeps putting Zara in his path.

I loved how fate kept giving Emmett and Zara the chance to meet and connect with one another. Despite themselves, neither Emmett or Zara can ignore the smoldering chemistry and growing feelings that sizzle between them.

There were times when I laughed and times where I wanted to cry. Emmett frustrated me a great deal at times with his one step forward, two steps back behaviour and I admired Zara’s willingness to stand up to him and call him on his behaviour.

I love that we see other members of the club pop up throughout the story; the camaraderie and friendships amongst the men and the women they fall in love with is heart warming.

Will Emmett be prepared to take a chance on love again? Or will his fear of commitment push Zara away once and for all?

I seriously LOVE LOVE LOVE The Single Dads of Seattle series, and I'm pretty sure that I'll NEVER EVER get enough of the talented Whitley Cox's world. The underlying plot is 10 sexy single dads play poker every Saturday night, and all of them have never wanted to get into another relationship, since their first ones definitely left scars on them. However, one by one, they're falling, and it's most entertaining as they do. This is Dr. Emmett Strong's story, whose ex-wife destroyed his belief in soul mates after she served him divorce papers out of the blue. Even worse, said ex really hurt his tiny human, Josie's heart as well, and Emmett won't do that to her ever again. However, unfortunately for his determination, when fate decides to step in, he really has no choice, though he made it difficult more than once or twice. Zara Olsen is a single parent herself, and also owns a flower shop, so she has no time to put up with any crap, or unavailable men like Dr. Strong. I LOVED how fate kept putting these two in each other's path though, as fate didn't give two craps about any wall either of them had built. They have amazing chemistry, which isn't about to be denied, so when Zara finally goes big by taking a chance with said chemistry with the good doctor, Emmett pissed me off by acting completely weird which was totally uncalled for. And this is where I leave you, because you just need to one click on this emotionally charged story which I loved! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Don’t shy away from love simply because your heart has been broken. The heart mends. The heart is resilient. You are worthy of love. You are worthy of being someone’s everything again. Don’t waste the best years of your life angry at what was, and instead spend those years searching and hoping for what could be. — Zara Olsen

I quite liked this novella. Zara Olsen and Emmett Strong have quite possibly the most delightful meet cute I've read in a while. Twin coffee orders, as in identical and spoken in an almost eerie synchroisity. That is just the first of three unlikely conincidences that ahow their alignment. Their similarly aged children with the nicknames Nono and Jojo. Those super cute and adorably manipulative childrens comfort giraffes Zelda and Ziggy. Even their own childhood comfort toys still so present in their lives (Arabella Blossom von Bearson and Dr Arnold Strong respectivly) tied to their grandparents in diffent ways. The novella plays with the fate. The whole piece takes place over around 24 hours (excluding epilogue). In the first twelve they meet four times which includes them seeing each other in their professional settings as a florist and a doctor. This is a seasonal work that uses NYE as a time of growth and change. The plot can be kinda predictable but that really doesn't bother me if a work is as season focused as this.

I'm just going to add a quute dump here...

"Until Valentine’s season hit them like that fat winged-baby’s arrow, that is. Then it’d be all red and pink hearts and more glitter—AKA the herpes of craft supplies." — (Emmett) Omg yes. My besties ex hated like an almost phobia level hate of glitter. It really does get everywhere.
“This might hurt a little. But I’m going to numb the area before I apply the sutures.” Zara swallowed and nodded. “Okay. I’ve been through childbirth. A little sting is nothing compared to that.” — (Zara) This is one the reasons I like Zara she has no filter and I adore it.
"So when I turned thirty-six, I decided I didn’t want to wait any longer to be a mom. Michael and I had Nolan a year later. We lived together, raised him together. Until he met Shane and they got married. Then they moved a few blocks away, and now we share custody of our son and the three of us are raising Nolan.” — (Zara) This is the ultimate love is love to me. Nolan knows
“He’s not dead—as much as I sometimes wish he was. Bastard has two kids with Tobi—with an I—because she’ll tell you. ‘I’m Tobi—with an I,’” Zara said in a baby-doll voice at the same time she tilted her head to the side and cocked her hip. “‘I’m Tobi, with and I and I have the IQ of a lemon wedge.’” — (Zara) Zara is jaded and omg this line makes me laugh so hard.
“Those girls started to be mean to me. Then they took Zelda from me and wouldn’t give her back. Then they started playing tug of war with her and pulled her legs off.” — (Josephine) As someone whose comfort toy was decapitated I can assure you this is most distressing. I can laugh about it now but it can still be a bit of a soft spot if the person who did it mentions it at the wrong time (and I'm 33).
“I’d rather someone tell me I’m doing a great job with my son than say I have a nice ass any day. Looks fade, but our children are our legacy. Our children are a reflection of us … our successes and our failures.” — (Zara) Do know how much this line made me smile. It's nso good to have a woman acknowledge that there is more to her than her looks. Even better that Emmett complimented her on how she raised Nolan first.
"However, I don’t know if I want to wreck my relationship with my florist. Where would I go if the relationship went south? Pike Place Posies? Pffst, no. Zara knows exactly what my mom likes. The relationship between a man and his florist is sacred. I don’t know if I could jeopardize that by sleeping with her.” — (Mason Whitfield) WTF Mason. But okay fair I guess.
grabbing Emmett around the back of the head and, before Emmett could pull away, planting a big, smacking, closed-mouth smooch onto his lips. — This is Mason and Emmett. . The moment just made me laugh and made think that apparently bro don't let bros kiss bimbos.

I got this free as part of a massive kindle giveaway at New Years. So I come to this novella knowing nothing of the wider series, though I do know they can all be read as stand-alone. In this novella, you do see the characters from many of the other books in The Single Dads of Seattle series. The NYE party is hosted by Hired by the Single Dad's Mark and Tori. Mitch and Paige from Saved by the Single Dad are referenced but not present. Mason's novella is Valentine's with the Single Dad, he makes a fantastic appearance including a reference to the shop that is important to that novella Wicked Sister Chocolates. Liam and his relationship with Richelle is the focus of Falling for the Single Dad are somewhat important to this story. Liam is interesting. He's loaded, started the support group and is more than a little jaded. It's a helluva combination. A couple of these are appealing to me. The whole series is a bit unusual with its focus on single fathers over single mothers and some beautiful seasonal themes.

“Do you moonlight as an astronaut? Are you Astronaut Dr. Strong? Because I honestly don’t know what else you could do or be to make yourself any more … ”
He lifted one dark eyebrow, which seemed to also pull at the same corner of his mouth. “Any more … ”
She lifted then flopped her free hand down to the exam table. “I dunno … appealing? Handsome? A catch?” Was she coming on too strong? Too freaking bad.
— Zara Olsen and Emmett Strong (the Officer Astronaut Dr. Strong is the cutest in joke and it starts here)

What are the odds that two people order the same thing at the same time, standing right next to each other? Single dad Emmett wondered that the day he met Zara. When he heard his order being echoed by the other patron of the coffee shop he stopped into before his shift at the hospital. After a quick chat while waiting for their orders, they went their separate ways. Emmett wasn’t looking for anyone. He’s raising his daughter and still nurturing his bruised heart. He didn’t even want to think about a relationship.
Zara’s a little more open to a relationship. Even after her ex-husband lied and cheated, she knew she’d find someone again. Someone who’d want the same things she did.
An interesting story, with both characters having so much in common. It was nice to see the story develop, to see where it would go. I’m not going to give the story away, it’s definitely worth the read.
Emmett and Zara’s story is one of the stories in the Single Dads of Seattle series. I have read one other (Christmas with the Single Dad), but they are written in such a way that you can just jump in and you won’t be lost.
I am fast becoming a fan of Ms. Cox and can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

*I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest and voluntary review.

CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THIS SERIES! Emmett is dad number six in this series, and we have a little insight into him because of his daughter JoJo and the interactions she’s had with other children in the previous books. I loved the level of coincidence that happened where Emmett and Zara continued to run into each other multiple times throughout the day, and that really the whole story is based in a less than 48-hour time frame. Zara has a son as well, and while her circumstances are different than Emmett’s, they share the commonality that they are single parents. As they continue to find that they have a ton in common, they also find that their kids organically develop a close friendship as well in a short amount of time. I really felt for Zara and was so confused with Emmett going hot and cold and felt that Zara’s response was natural, but I’m so glad they have their HEA. I really love the friendship this group has and the support they provide each other, especially since it’s not the norm for single dads to rely on each other and create a support group. I can’t wait for the next story in this series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

The last thing Dr. Emmett Strong is looking for is love, even when he has an instant connection in a coffee shop with a woman who orders the exact same breakfast as he does at the exact same time. Is is fate? What happens when that same woman is the one who your friends have set you up with at a New Year's Eve party - again is is fate? When sparks fly and passion ignites at the party can this be the start of something good for Emmett and Zara? Or will the rules he has put in place to save the feeling of his young daughter be a slap in the face and end the relationship before the clock strikes twelve? This series keeps getting better and better with every new addition. Not only is the reader given a beautifully written love story but also they are given an insight on just how hard it is to be a single parent. I cannot wait for more in the series.

Emmett is a jaded guy after he got burned by his ex-wife and is skeptical to be in a relationship again. But then on new year's eve he met this incredible woman and he's enamored by her. In just 24 hours, they met 4 times. If that was not fate, what would it be? But he is very particular on who he introduce to his daughter.

Zara had her heart broken by her ex-husband. But now her and her son's life is looking up and there's nothing she regrets. Then come this guy order the exact same thing she did and they just hit it off. But the more time they spend together, she discover that Emmett's hot and cold behaviour towards her especially in front of his daughter. For Zara, that's a turn off. She's not into playing games anymore

I loved the characters and the story plot. Their children are just so cute and they even know how to matchmake their parents

Emmett is still reeling from the betrayal of his wife when she left him and their daughter. All he has is questions about why and what could he have done differently to keep his family together. He has decided that the only female he will allow into his heart is his daughter JoJo.

Zara has a painful past of her own and after her divorce she focused on what would make her happy and that was her son Nolan and her career. She wants love and a relationship but in the interim she is content with her life the way it is.

A chance meeting between Zara and Emmett leads to them bumping into each other and there is no denying the chemistry and connection between them but are they willing to open their hearts and lives to each other to see what they could have together?

I love how all these books are about people in their 30’s to 40’s age group. Well done, Whitley 😘
This is a great book and you need to read all of the Single Dad’s, love them all 💋
Emmett is an ER Dr, Zara is a florist.
They have several chance meetings on the same day, is this fate for them or will nothing become of it.

Dr Emmett Strong was part of the single daddy club. Zara owned a florist. On this remarkable New Years Eve Emmett and Zara had four intriguing and interesting run ins in one day. Could this interesting woman thaw his cold heart? Fun read

I really enjoyed Emmett and Zara's story. I loved the idea of fate intervening after they ran into each other multiple times in the same day. I loved how their children really pulled for getting them together, and the relationship that Emmett developed with Zara's son.

I look forward to more in this series!

I really enjoyed this short story, especially seeing another single dad falling. This one is based around new years eve.

I loved Emmett and Zara, they may have met by fate but it was like they was meant to be.

I loved all the interactions between everyone.

I highly recommend this book.

The entirety of this book, except the epilogue, takes place over the course of about 24 hours. It was horribly rushed, there was zero character development, there were SO MANY cheesy coincidences . This book was really hard to get into and invested in because it felt so completely unrealistic. Everything that happened could have been spaced out over a couple of weeks instead of less than 24 hours and it would have flowed a lot better.

We also don't get to see any of their relationship, the book is literally just them meeting and hooking up and then an epilogue that takes place two years later. I felt a little ripped off by this book because once it finally felt like it was going somewhere and picking up, it ended.

The only compliments I can give this book is that the writing itself is good, but it was rushed and ended suddenly and didn't give you what the other books did.

It was a sweet book about two single parents finding love again but it was not my favourite in the series. Not even close. Definitely love at first sight. It felt a little rushed and at times Zara was annoying
So Zara and Emmett meet at a coffee shop for the first time, they see each other again at the hospital where Emmett works, then at the flower shop that Zara owns, and then end up at the same new year’s eve party. By the time of the party, they have only spoken a few times and it all happened within a few days. At the party they get closer and their kids who are at the party become friends. What was annoying was that Zara expected Emmett to introduce her to his kid basically right away. She proposed that the four of them go get lunch and Emmett was not really sure and she got upset and felt like he was saying she was not good enough or some bullshit. It’s so ridiculous. Lady you haven’t even been on a date yet and you want to go out to lunch like a happy family wtf. Yes they get REALLY close during the party but still they have barely talked and only known each other for 3 days. Give him a break.

Flip Switched

When I started this book, I was really into it. I loved the chemistry and banter between Emmett and Zara. They had a great meet cute, they had multiple surprise interactions that all just added to the fire. Then the story slipped alot for me.

Lord save me from unreasonable, over dramatic heroines. The bulk of the story is 1 day. Less than 24 hours. And in that time, Zara has a near meltdown over Emmett's putting distance between them around his kid after she already points out they have been kissing. I'll repreat. They have known each other less than 24 hours and she loses it over this and he has to grovel. Part of that is him explaining his history and his pretty reasonable reasons for being gunshy about any woman and his kid. A conversation that likely would have come out as they got to know each other as people, that they hadn't even had time to have yet. For a 40-something year old, Zara was incredibly immature.

Fate has a plan if only he can recognize it

New Year's with the Single Dad is the sixth book in The Single Dads of Seattle series. I have read several books in this series and enjoyed them. The story of Emmett Strong and Zara Olsen does not disappoint either. Once again the author has written a book book where the characters are wonderful and have deepth. The story-line is emotional, engaging and has your heart breaking and then flying for these two every time their paths cross in the most unexpected and random way. The question really becomes at which meeting will Emmett finally ask her out on a date, as they fate just keeps hitting him over the head about her!
I quite enjoyed this story and found it to be a wonderful addition to the series.

#SingleDad #SingleMom #Holiday

Fate pays a hand bringing Zara and Emmett together multiple times in a day. Their romance is written in third person from alternating dual POV.

Zara is a single mom of her seven year old son, an entrepreneur, and a lady who is still looking for her HEA. Emmett has been jaded by a nasty divorce that resulted in shared custody of his 5 year old daughter and a broken heart. They hit it off immediately. Emmett has to learn to accept that not all things are in his control. I love how Zara is honest and straight with Emmett. She is my hero and all women should have her attitude. Though unfailingly kind, she doesn't put up with the crap and is not willing to take on a project. Emmett figures out fast that he has to get his act together.
There is a lot of heat, the kids are beyond adorable, and there are a few laughs in this single parent romance that ends with a fabulous HEA. I can't wait to read more books in this series.

A great meet cute flowing into an even better HEA

This book was the wonderful mix of sweet, steamy, hilarious, angsty, healing, and swoony. Emmett is an ER physician and a single dad. He’s jaded about love after he was blindsided by his divorce. Zara is a single mom and a florist. She still believes in love. A series of unrelated encounters between Zara and Emmett in a 24 hour period seem to be driving them together and the sparks are undeniable. But to get to their HEA they both need to look at and deal with their baggage. There was growth for both characters and the interactions with their children made the characters more relatable and real. This is a new to me author and I will definitely read more from her.

I liked it

I was looking for a New Year’s Eve book and this was a good choice. Most of the book covers New Year’s Eve and the first day they met. A series of coincidences had them ending up at the same party after crossing paths more than once that day. Their children were at the party, too.

For a series, I like whole single dad group. Several of them make quick appearances in this story. The first few encounters between Emmett and Zara were hot then went cold real fast. Feelings were hurt easily. I think I was not totally okay with the instability between the two not being adequately resolved, in my opinion, before we jumped into the epilogue two years later.

Cute couple

This was a nice little read. I'm not fond of third person writing because I don't feel as connected to the main characters but I still gave it a try because the blurb was intriguing. Throwing in the kids was a great bonus because they always bring humor to the story. Emmett and Zara had an instant connection and the 180 on Emmett's part didn't last long. He was able to pull his head out of his butt and see the big picture quickly. The epilogue was the perfect ending to their story.

Finding the Right One

Delightful read in which single dad and ER doctor, Emmett, and single mom and florist, Zara find each other. They are both good, loving parents, but Emmett must overcome some control and hovering issues to allow Zara into his life. And she's just the strong, independent woman to help him do that very thing. Charming and well written this book makes you believe the right woman can get a stubborn man to learn the errors of his ways and get on the right track.

Emmett and Zara meet at the coffee shop ordering the same thing and it was like fate had a part in their meeting. Zara is an amazing parent and her connection with Emmett is a beautiful thing. Each time they meet the pull draws them closer. I loved this story and knew that it will be one that I will read again because it is heartfelt and have you in their corner cheering for them to get their chance for a happily ever after!

Loving this book!

I loved this book! Zara, after being disappointed by her marriage, decided to have a child with her lifelong friend, A gay man. After running into Emmett four times in the same day, they both realized that they were destined to be together. This book tells hoe Emmett learns how to overcome his actions and learn how to share his love.

Emmett & Zara

They meet while ordering breakfast to go at the local coffee shop, ordering the same exact breakfast at the same time. They chatted while waiting for their orders and flirted a bit. That day was like fate was trying to tell them something because they ran into each other four times. Really sweet story with just a bit of steam

Nice

This is a cute and unassuming book. It's enjoyable, well written and rather uncomplicated, making it an ideal way to pass an afternoon. I really liked the relationship between each adult and their respective offspring.
