Haunted Spark
Roxanne May McDonald lives as simple a life as any fifteen year old, she goes to school, studies hard, and she has her crush, Brandon to admire from afar. Roxy's world is turned upside down when her beloved Grandfather dies. She is broken-hearted and can't imagine her life without her only Granda in it. On the morning of the funeral, Roxy gets a surprise. Clad in a pair of moccasin slippers, her Granda pays her a visit. He's just as shocked as she is, after all who expects to see the ghost of their dead grandfather in their bedroom? Turns out its not just her Granda she can now see, someone seems to have told all the stray ghosts in Aberdeen that Roxy is accepting visitors and she soon finds herself helping a number of lost souls including the sad ghost of Carrie, a girl who was murdered by an old headmaster in Roxy's school. While Roxanne is getting used to her new profession she is asked to give Brandon maths assistance, things couldn't get any better! She can't help but feel that Brandon is flirting with her, and as she gets to know him better, she senses something is different about him...but what is it, and why is he constantly eating, I mean constantly?

Free Kindle e-book in exchange for an honest review as part of the Indie June author month.
On her first day of school, Roxanne (or Roxy as she prefers it) is pulled out of school and sent home, only to find out her beloved grandfather is dead. She is in shock and still cannot believe her Granda is gone when she sees him, as a ghost. Soon, realising she can see other ghosts, Roxy goes on a journey to help them move on, and hopefully in the process, she can deal with her grief as well.
Haunted Spark by Nicola Ormerod is young adult fantasy that anyone who has been through puberty and/or has lost loved ones can relate.
For such a heavy topic as dealing with grief is, Haunted Spark is still very much light-hearted and easy to read. Roxy is still just a fifteen year-old girl, dealing with average teenage problems; like bullying and a first crush.
I have to say, I did not expect that twist with Brandon in the end (not going to say what because I don't want to spoil the book).
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. Haunted Spark is perfect for someone in a reading slump, it is very easy to read, and it is not too long. Only 222 pages in Kindle. I have to subtract one star from the rating as it has several typos and grammatical errors. Furthermore, while it is young adult, and the main character is fifteen years old, some dialogues seem overly juvenile and could have been improved.

Included in all this angst is the fact that Roxy can see ghosts and can help them pass over. An evil presence doesn’t want her to help one ghost and the book takes a suspenseful turn. The story takes place in Scotland. There are a lot of phrases that are either wrong and editing didn’t catch them or are typical of a Scottish writer.

I couldn't give this book 5 stars due to some grammatical and punctuation mistakes, and it seemed to me that for a 15-year-old girl, Roxy was living too much like an adult and the insta-love with Brandon just seemed too much. If she had been aged up to at least 17 or 18 the situation with Brandon would've been better and made much more sense (in my opinion).
However, with all that said, I'd say, overall, the story was cute and engaging; it caught my attention and it was quite fast to read through. The characters were interesting and fleshed out. I even teared up near the end. Not a bad story, by any means.

This is a quick sweet read with some mystery, romance, and paranormal elements. Roxy is your typical high school girl. She has a bully to contend with and a crish on a boy. Roxy discovers that she can see and speak to the dead when her granda passes away suddenly and then shows up in her bedroom. She goes on a mission to find others who have passed and helped this crossover.

Not what I expected
I am so surprised by this book. I thought it would be just about ghosts but thr whole mystical side that got brought in and thr world building was amazing. I haven't read anything like this before and really captured my attention. I love the detail in the characters and so happy Rox got her man. Also Brandon was the huge twist of them all I was not expecting hi, to turn out to be what he was. Amazing book

Haunted Spark is a quick read with a great story line.
A young girl discovers she has the ability to see ghosts and helps them figure out how to cross over. But a spirit doesn't like her snooping around his affairs and she sees how dangerous things can get when trying to help out these supernatural beings.
I really enjoyed this book. It has romance, mystery and supernatural elements with a little twist at the end leading into the series.

Very enjoyable read.. i feel as though i was a little too old for this book and it would do better for a younger reader but none the less it has a cute story line.

Haunted Spark was nothing less than charming. The characters were so true to their time and place. There was mystery, romance, paranormal activity and unexpected plot twist you won’t see coming. An excellent and thoroughly enjoyable story.

Not my normal genre, but this book is part of the June indie author take over your TBR event and I am trying to bring more variety to my reading! I truly enjoyed it, the pacing was good, and the story was cute. This feels like the perfect sort of cozy book to read on a rainy day, curled up on a chair with a warm beverage! I wasn't expecting the twist at the end, and I am adding the rest of the series to my TBR for sure!
