Avery Shaw is on the hunt for action and adventure. The last place she thinks she’s going to find it is at a motivational retreat in northern Macomb County. I mean… how strong can someone be if they’re only eating tree bark, right?
When one of the guests turns up dead, however, Avery gets assigned the story. She’s barely interested… until she realizes the camp is designed like a certain village from one of her favorite movies. Huts dispersed through various trees, with a huge platform and an open fireplace? Sounds like heaven… in a suburb far, far away.
Avery might not believe in manifestation, but she can’t stay away from the village, and as she digs deeper into the murder, she finds an interesting set of circumstances. It seems the dead woman was sleeping with a married man. More importantly, it appears several of the women at the retreat were sleeping with the same man.
Avery isn’t a joiner, but she only has one shot at figuring out who killed her victim. She’s going to have to join the retreat, where she will be expected to talk about her feelings—shudder—and eat something that isn’t cooked in grease and served with a side of chili.
It’s the clean life for Avery… and by the end, she might just be wishing for murder over manifestation. She also just might get her wish.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
Avery Shaw is an acquired taste, very acquired, few people can put up with her brand of snark, she always has to have the last word, has to be right and has to win. For those she considers her enemies her lives goal is to torment them to insanity, her friends however get similar treatment, she's an equal opportunity s##tstirrer. Eliot her husband loves her unconditionally, the only thing he would wish different would be for her not to take so many risks. Once Avery gets her teeth into a story she can't let go, she's tenacious and will not stop till she's got all the answers, she often beats the police to the criminal/murderer. This book sees Avery fulfilling her lives dream by visiting an "Ewok's villiage" also known as a yoga retreat after a body is found...................
Ms Lee is my favorite author and she did t disappoint with this book. I always love a good Avery Shaw mystery. There was a lot of suspense and snark. I especially loved the reference to the Ewoks! The only issues were in editing. On several occasions the victim’s name changed from Bobbie to Bonnie and back again. It created a lot of confusion. Additionally, at one point Elliot tried to convince Avery to stay at the retreat. She put up a fight and the VERY NEXT CHAPTER she insisted on staying at the retreat and Elliot fought her on it. I reread it several times and couldn’t figure out what I missed. Again, so confusing.
This series is so fun. Nobody wants to win more than Avery Shaw! I loved reading this book it had so much sarcasm in it. Avery is a blood hound when on a story and this one was a good story. I figured out the suspect before Avery which was a little weird that she didn't figure it out. But I love this series so much I will stop in the middle of a current novel to read an addition to this series. Well worth it which leaves me sad I am finished with it. Read the series from book 1 to fully understand the characters and their relationships.
We meet the human resources director at the paper. Duncan and Fish are involved and that whole part is really funny. Avery, meanwhile, is going to go to a retreat which just happens to look a lot like the Ewok village which pleases her to no end.
What doesn't please her is someone being killed. Also, there's something going on between haer and judge Campos. There's a guy named Lincoln who thinks he can get rough with Avery but Eliot shows up.
Also, when is a family dinner not a safe place to be for her?
Another great Avery Shaw book. A woman is murdered at a yoga retreat and Avery is determined to find the killer. The yoga retreat promotes so many things that go against everything Avery believes in but she won’t let anything stop her from figuring out who did it. I always forget how much I love Avery Shaw until I read the next book. She is one of my favorite characters.
I've really missed Avery and Eliot (heart) A woman gets multi-stabbed to death at a yoga retreat that's built into the trees. There's a skeezy lawyer (that I think will feature in the next book), an influencer yogi instructor, and a hilarious girl fight between cousins. Grandpa wants to murder a mesh wearing Hollywood and someone gets drugged and kidnapped! I had so much fun! (Only gave it 4stars because I guessed the killer on my first try. Still loved it all!)
I missed reading the exploits of Avery Shaw. Plus her love of everything Star Wars, who doesn't love Star Wars? Ok I know some people who don't, but they don't count. This story had me guessing the wrong person, just like Avery. The twist at the end was a good one. Well, on to the next adventure!💙💚😉
It has always been my dream to visit the Walk village and this book made my little Star Wars heart so happy! I am very jealous of Avery's adventures. Great book and great series. Can't wait to torture Tad and Ryan more.
I have read every book in the Avery Shaw series. I absolutely love her. Her sarcasm is the best. Not to mention I live in Michigan, so I love all the Detroit area references. Amanda M. Lee, keep it up. Just please write faster. Your fans love these books.
Of all the books you've written this series is my absolute favorite. I love the character Avery Shaw. I love how she's written. I look forward to the next installment in this wonderful story.
I couldn’t put the book down! The snark, the expressions ( Amanda is one creative author), I laughed so much! I also enjoy Avery being more accessible, showing more empathy and how much she loves Elliot. I can’t wait for the next one!
Absolutely love Avery shaw and this book didn’t disappoint would definitely recommend to anyone that loves a mystery humour a strong heroine with amazing friendships
Classic Avery Shaw. Lots of fun, mystery, creepiness, new characters , old favorites, and deadly serious moments! Rocky the cat had a tiny mention. More Rocky next time?
I love Ms. Lee's books! Out of all the different books I read she is my favorite author. She has a fun sense of humor that she writes interesting mysteries around. You won't be sorry to buy any of her books.
When a woman is murdered at a yoga and "manifestation", Avery investigates. The woman had been seeing a married man, but so have several others. As usual, I love the snark, and the love.
I always enjoy Amanda Lee's books, but my favorite are the Avery Shaw books . I am always entertainined by her odd sense of humor. Great stories and quirky characters. I would recommend them to everyone.
Another good book in Avery's story. The plot and subplots move quickly. She doesn't back down for anyone. I want to be her when I grow up! Can't wait for the next book!
I want to be Avery Shaw in my next life. She is absolutely amazing and is just the best. I can’t wait to see what she gets into next. Everyone deserves an Eliot. Loved it
I love all the series. But something about Avery just speaks to me. A grown up Nancy Drew who knows who she is and what she wants. The stories are so fun to read.
Avery never disappoints! She can’t resist a juicy story, and the lure of an Ewok Village looking crime scene calls to her. So glad Elliot loves her for exactly who she is! Great book!
