According to Cherokee beliefs, opportunity will bless you twice.

September Again, second in the series, September Stories, is the follow up to the hugely popular indie sensation, September Ends. September Again finds Liz Snow Savage leaving England. She follows her daughter Zelda Savage back to America after Zelda’s betrayal of her. More drama ensues as Liz looks for meaning in life while Zelda finds her direction after the tragedy of losing Jack O. Savage, The Poet. Set mainly in Chattanooga, Tennessee, September Again chronicles the rhythm of life's cycles. The ebb and flow of love unravel the mystery of Liz's past. September Again allows a further glimpse into the intricate web of passion and desire which have entangled Liz Snow, Pete Hendrix and Jack O. Savage for years. Will a chance encounter finally reveal the truth? What act will change the destiny of Liz and Zelda forever? The story of sin, salvation and redemption continues in Book 2 of the September Stories, told through a mosaic of prose with a smattering of poetry.

I am a fan of Hunter S. Jones’ previous book, September Ends, so I began reading the sequel with much excitement. After a few chapters I was aware of an internal dialog and realized it was occurring in my mind. It went like this: “Changelings! Hunter S. Jones has stolen her magnificent characters and replaced them with changelings!” “Now, now, they are her characters to do with as she pleases.” “But I want the ones from the first book.” “But you hate cookie cutter sequels.” “You’re right! This certainly is NOT a predictable sequel!” “And…?” “And, well, what a genius of a writer Hunter S. Jones is to imagine her characters about 8 years later as being so different than we readers expected. Being post-Jack O. Savage survivors. Living life without The Poet. I’m still a bit angry about it, but I’ll continue reading this wild imagining…” I don’t know who the “Anonymous English Poet” is, but Ms. Jones is certainly a poet too. Her book embodies one of the poems in September Again and I quote: “Because to give anew’s to live/This joyful dream’s your air borne lift/To give and give and give anew.” She certainly gave us a new story and I look forward to the promised prequel!

Once again this author manages to capture and hold my attention the full 97 pages with a story of love, despair, hope, and joy.
In this second September story we continue to follow the life of Liz and her daughter after the death of the great poet Jack O. Savage. Things aren't easy and the author has managed to bring all the struggles alive in a way that makes the reader root for the characters. The fine details show that the author has either done her research really well of writes what she knows from experience. Either way, it makes for a book with real living characters and scenes.
Her dialogues are never once contrived or stilted and each character speaks how you would expect a person from that age, gender, or social group would.
There is enough detail to the scenes to make them more than just a stage for the characters to play on, but never so much that it drowns out the story. A perfect balance between setting a scene and telling the story from within the character's point of view.
The only downside to this great story is that I read it way too fast, or it was too short. On the other hand, it was complete. Had the author written more detail in it, or added scenes to make it longer that would probably have ruined what is now a perfect story.
Would I recommend this book? The answer to that is a big, fat YES! And I cannot wait to read the prequel to this all.

4 out of 5 Fangs

I received a copy of this story for an honest review for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock!

I have to confess that September Again is such a different animal than September Ends, when I jumped into this sequel I was thrown for a pretty major loop. Where September Ends focused on intense and sometimes crazy physical and emotional love between a woman and the two major men in her life (the one that broke her and the one that saved her), September Again focuses on the power of the parent/child bond and finding the strength to adapt to life when it doesn’t go the way you think it should.

That said the more I read the more I realized a story of midlife should feel different than life in your late 20’s. Author Hunter S. Jones deftly crafts a beautiful tale of a maturing woman dealing with the loss of her husband, a hurtful/hateful child, and facing an unexpected second chance.

What I loved: Emotion jumps off of every page of this book. If you can read this without getting mad, sad, frustrated, happy, and relieved… than your made of stronger stuff than I am. Also, Liz is an amazingly real heroine who manages to balance fragility and strength at every turn. As much as I would love a happy every after for her, author Hunter S. Jones does some better by writing her a life truly lived.

What I didn’t love: Zelda, Zelda, Zelda… Liz and John Savage’s wild daughter really came off as someone only a mother could love. I understand that she’s a troubled teen dealing with mental instability and grief, but I caught myself getting so frustrated with her that I occasionally slammed my Kindle case closed.

Favorite Quotes:
“Oh yes, the whole world loved your father. I just shared him. But that was enough for me.”

“If… maybe… because… it seems my entire life has been lived on the balance of those three words. Wonder if he had managed some type of life maybe after the mess he caused because of me.”

“I was a husk when you took up with me. You put the heart and soul back in me, you did. And I did my best to love you back.”

Overall September Again is a solid read and I would recommend checking it out. If you haven’t already read September Ends do yourself a favor and check that out first.

It Crawled from the South

After finishing Hunter S. Jones' SEPTEMBER ENDS, I was curious to read the follow up, SEPTEMBER AGAIN. She never fails to surprise me. Where the first book in the series brings a new form of reading experience, this book is more of a traditional novel, although poems, emails and diary entries are found, they are utilized in a new manner.

In SEPTEMBER AGAIN we find an older Liz, Pete and Zelda. The Poet is worked into the narrative in a way that will surprise you, yet make you understand how much he meant to his family and those closest to him. Where the first book gave us love, lust and longing this book brings us family dynamics and second chances. "Make things right" as The Poet would say. It rings true from every emotive page. This is a short book that packs a wallop.

I enjoyed the third person narrative used in this book. It is well edited and the Happily Right Now ending works. Has anyone else noticed the usage of Psalm 51, the Miserere, in this book? The symbolism of penitinence jumped out at me, as did the knowledge that this Psalm was used in Medieval England--if you could recite this Psalm, you could not be tried and put to death for a murder.

Ms. Jones takes the Southern roots of her literary predecessors, shakes the dirt off them and gives us a new, global perspective of today's South. Any Southern will tell you, when it comes to music or literature, any new form will crawl from the South. Well done you!

"September Again" by Hunter S. Jones is a beautiful, bitter sweet and also magical novel about love and redemption.
Zelda wishes her mother had been someone else, someone her father loved, but who died tragically 21 years ago. She rejects her mother and moves to the South of the US to get away; but her mother has her own truth to tell and follows her daughter.
The story is cleverly told, in wonderfully poetic prose, with great insight into the mindset of all characters. It unwraps gradually with some excellent scenes, holding the reader in a tight grip of emotional involvement and with unexpected turns of events and revelations.
Jones shows with masterful empathy how we are prepared to hurt the ones we love and those who mean us no harm. The family dynamics, again happening in September, bring redemption to the characters, who struggle through the novel with awkward truths and difficult to fulfill, if not impossible desires.
A section of poems is perfectly placed into the stylish narrative that also includes some great diary entries, allowing for different angles, reflection and new perspectives.
The September series started with a strong opening, establishing a unique style of story telling, and this sequel has not let its predecessor down. A wonderful piece of poetic fiction.

This time Hunter S. Jones has blown my mind one more time. The characters are the same as September Ends but not as I expected them to be. The story is set in the years following the loss of The Pet. Liz has suffered, Zelda is a neglected brat and Pete Hendrix is a new man. I loved the twists and turns this short book reveals. The characters are well developed as are the hidden symbols and motifs in the plot line. The setting in contemporary Tennessee and Georgia offers a real peek into their part of the US. The short burst of poetry is lovely. Be prepared to cry at the end. I look forward to the upcoming pre-quel!

I'll be honest, I loved September Ends, the first of the September stories by Hunter Jones. I loved Liz, Jack, and even Pete. So when I started reading the sequel there were parts that frustrated me, especially around the dynamic between Liz and Zelda (now a teenager). But I have faith in Hunter Jones and her characters and the payoff was worth it. The explanation for the breakdown in their relationship and therefore the tragedy that brought them back together I appreciated all the more. These are stories focused on unwavering love, even when it can be somewhat disjointed and no matter what form it takes. Well done.

I enjoyed the first book, September Ends, so much that I wasn't certain if it really needed a sequel. Hunter S. Jones gave me another ride I didn't expect. This book is set ten years in the future. The characters are just as flawed, but their lives are coming full circle. As a Southerner I understand all the religious and mystic references she uses. Again, she had me in tears by the end of the book. I look for to the upcoming pre-quel. This is a writer who is not afraid to take risks and I am hooked!

After the last book, I had to read the sequel to SEPTEMBER ENDS. What a surprise SEPTEMBER AGAIN is. The glimpses into the characters' lives and how they have changed is so different. This book really made me want to visit Georgia and Tennessee.
SEPTEMBER AGAIN has more surprises. But it’s about how everyone deserves love and a second chance. The prose is poetic and the poetry is placed at the perfect place in the story line. It is well edited and my only complaint is that the book isn't long enough.

September Again has all the players--Liz, Jack, Zelda, Marlowe, bad boy Pete returns--and all the elements--poetry, email, diary entries, even a note plays a pivotal part of the story--but this is a completely different book than September Ends. Liz is a middle age widow left to raise a disturbed child. This is a book that shows the love of a mother for a child, possible Liz's greatest love. Finally it reminds us that life is full of second chances and that love lasts forever.

"Zelda is your Savage spirit, wild and unleashed on the world."

"She knows the call is from him but she answers it anyway. It is time to quit running."

The novel is professionally edited and has a polish to it, from the cover until the end. I enjoyed the third person narrative and the unique dialogue worked the story. As for the upcoming prequel, when will it be published? I'll mark my calendar.

After reading September Ends, I found it impossible not to download the follow up novel, September Again. Much to my surprise, the author and the anonymous English poet have not followed the typical series format. September Again gives a look into what happens to Liz, Zelda and even Pete.

This is a short book and will not take you long to read. Be prepared for an emotional experience. Look for the poetry, email and other modes of story telling found in the first book. Where the first book is about love and loss, this book is all about second chances. More importantly, it reminds us that love lasts forever.

I waited anxiously for this installment. I loved September Ends and thought it the most brilliant way of storytelling through poetry and writing. This is the tale of an older Zelda, whom felt like the most unlikable and miserable little girl. I loathed her and loved her, my feelings were sculpted by the design of the author's portrayal of realistic characters with realistic problems. You can understand her plight, and eventually you'll come to understand why.

Yet I loved this story. It ended too soon, I wanted more, now I will have to wait for the next tale. Its ending came exactly as I wanted, exactly as it needed to be, the way I hoped would happen ever since the inevitable climax of September Ends. The conclusion of September Again left me tearfully pleased.

After reading September Ends by Hunter S. Jones, I could not wait to read the next book in the series, September Again. To my surprise, this follow up story is not a typical second novel. Liz, Zelda, Jack are there, but it's all set up in a style you will never expect.

I found the third person narrative of this book appealing. All the characters are well developed, whether you like them or not. The emails, diary entries, letters and poetry are found in this story but used in a different way than they were used to tell the story of September Ends. The writers usage of Southern culture and beliefs is to be commended.

Well edited, well written and creative. I highly recommend September Again and can't wait to read the upcoming pre-quel!

Book 2 in the series September Stories is not to be missed. We follow Liz Snow back to Georgia and Tennessee as she comes to grips with her own life and wins back the love of her daughter, Zelda Savage. The character in September Ends and September Again are very real. You can relate to their problems and challenges.

My favorite quote from the entire book is:
"The spiral continues and she reaches utter despair, praying daily that her daughter be safe. Zelda’s safety is even more important to her than hearing from her. But, every night, when Liz sees the first twinkling star, her wish is always please have Zelda connect with me soon."

This author continues to amaze me with the plots and twists she brings into her stories. The blending of places, people, legends and her way of visual explanation mixed with well developed characters bring life to the pages of September Again. I believe this story and it's blend of poetry and prose is even better than September Ends. Well done.

September Again is a riveting follow up to September Again. The first book in the series, September Ends, is all about change, love, and loss. September Again is a coming of age story--no matter what age the character is. This is a book about second chances and the power of love. All the elements and characters from book 1 are here, but the story is told in a different way.

September Again (September Stories Book 2) by Hunter S. Jones is a stunning, emotional story about change, love and even absolution. I don’t want to give away the story but there is some change going around in the sequel to September Ends. I found it to be moving and realistic. I took it all in and enjoyed how the characters have evolved. This was a well done sequel and I loved the authors ability to capture a moment. There is a unique quality to her writing. Poetic, beautiful and mind blowing. Didn’t know what to expect but I liked the surprises and the clever turns. I found the family dynamics to be so realistic.

The author’s poetry works well in the story. She weaves a compelling tale. One that had me by my boot straps. Life is not always perfect. Never is. We are all flawed and yet it is those imperfections that make us so interesting.

Quote ~

“She dreams of Jack. Sometimes, he will appear and just pull up a chair and sit down and chat. She can never remember the specifics of the dreams, just that she sees him again. Once, she asked if he remembers her. This dream she does recall….”

Omg, heartbreaking read. I regret it taking so long to finish. Tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Life take you places you would never expect to find yourself. It's so true in this book, so much pain, happiness, heartbreak and heart healing. It's life going full circle. You are going to love and hate some of the characters and then love them. I don't want to give away any spoilers but will say it's going too take me a long time to get over reading this..I STILL can't get rid of the lump in my throat. Hunter Jones this is one amazing piece of work. Thank you.

September Again by Hunter S Jones is book 2 in the series September Stories. It is a beautifully written novel full of love, longing, redemption belnded with poetic prose that simply makes the heart swell with memories. In this sequel Liz Snow returns to the South to repair her life and reconnect with her estranged daughter. The characters are real and so are their problems but the author excels at bringing out the best emotions, poignant and sigh inducing. We all wish on a star!
