FBI forensic profiler Agent Alexandra Darling is known for her unsettling affinity for murderers and their victims.
As she joins a task force assigned to capture a notorious duo of killers, her forbidden fascination with the twisted motivations behind their crimes takes a dangerous turn.
Delving deep into the darkness, she finds herself entangled in a dangerous game that blurs the lines between hunter and hunted, love and obsession. One that would forever redefine her understanding of desire and the depths of her own soul.
She quickly learns nothing is what it seems. Alexandra's journey will test the limits of her sanity at the same time as it challenges her perceptions of justice.
Will she be just another victim? Or do they have something different in mind for their little Darling?
Hunt Me Darling is a why-choose MFM dark contemporary romance. It contains explicit sexual content and straight-up smut. The male leads are not Prince Charming. They are villains with psycho tendencies, and therefore there is stalking, obsessive and possessive behavior, unaliving people, and lots of dark and twisted content. Intended for mature listeners.
Maree Rose is a romance writer based on the East Coast of Australia. When she isn't writing she is reading or spending time with her family. She has dabbled in writing since she was a little girl but finally took the plunge to publish in 2023. She loves a good insta-lust/insta-love story and did experience this with her own marriage.
I just couldn't take the writing style. Such a bummer because I really wanted to like this. Once I guessed who the stalkers are/would be I flipped to the last chapter to confirm and got it in one. Thought about continuing to see why the stalkers/killers killed people, but reading it was so difficult, my brain kept focusing on weird things and tripping over words.
I wouldn't wave anyone off this, I'd say try the sample on Amazon first and see if the writing is to your liking. I know I can be weird with how things are written.
Holy shit, I fucking DEVOURED this book!!! All the twist and turns really messed with my head, I didn’t see half of the stuff that happened coming it took me by complete surprise!!! I don’t know what to say, I’m speechless. It had me in a chokehold right from the start. I freaking loved it!!!!
❗️CHECK TW’S❗️
Thank you Maree for giving me this arc, I can’t wait for more from you ❤️
NO ONE TALKS LIKE THIS! I'm really struggling not to throw my kindle across the room. The dialogue is so unbelievable and polished the characters sounds like they are speaking in some regency drama. I really want to read this book cause spicy serial killers are my favourite, but at 18% I'm struggling.
Did I read a different book than everyone else? This was painful to get through, and I had the stalkers clocked immediately. If you don’t want spoilers, don’t read my highlights and notes because it’s just me ranting about Alex and predicting over and over again who Truth and Dare are..although their names should make that obvious enough.
"Don't be afraid of what you truly want, Little Darling. Embrace the darkness. Surrender."
The twists and turns in this book was mind boggling! I thought I knew who the two stalkers were only to find out I was wrong when it was revealed who they really are 😱 This book definitely made me question my own morals and the smut is INSANE. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes their romance ✨️dark✨️ Just make sure to check out the CWs 🖤
‘The thought of being stalked myself, of being intimately observed by someone consumed by obsession, stirs a strange arousal deep within.’
This is said in the first 2%. Is this not just giving away a big chunk of the plot? Obviously, it mentions the ‘forbidden fascination’ in the blurb, but this is a weird easter egg to drop so early. I also think it came out of nowhere. The book has barely begun.
It's basically saying ‘Guys if I am stalked later on, you don't need to guess if I'm aroused because I have told you beforehand that I definitely will be’. Maybe it was just me, but I assumed this stalker kink would be a revelation, not just thrown in at the start.
I have only read up to 6%, so I can only comment on what I've read up to this point. No spoilers are really included because I haven't read enough to find out any 😅
The personalities are very much Type A, so yeah. Take from that what you will. For me, the cockiness was a little bit much.
I think a large reason for dnf-ing was the writing style. Some of the text came across as a little cliche and sounded like a stereotypical person in law enforcement.
The conversation among the characters sounds kind of awkward, robotic, disjointed and in no way natural.
I may try this book again at a later date because I think the plot is really unique and a little twisted, which I obviously enjoy. However, if I'm not getting on with a book at the start it's hard for me to continue.
If anyone felt similar at the start and felt a shift at a certain percentage/page please let me know 🤞
Omgggggg this so easily could’ve been a 5 star dark romance if it was a bit longer and we delved a lot more into Alex’s childhood with ‘truth & dare’ so I could be more into their twisted relationship as adults!! Definitely could’ve had more of those flashbacks
I was not expecting this to be so dark and depraved. This is DARK, so if you love dark romance you’ll love this, it’s got alllll the tropes and all the triggers
Stalking Noncon/dubcon Primal play Knife play Blood play Doing it around dead bodies 👀 (honestly I’m telling you this is dark) MFM Brothers Masked men
Mixed in with a FBI/serial killer plot, and a corrupt bureau, yep this was fun.
Alex is assigned to a case where there’s been serial murders, and finds herself being stalked by the two men she believes to be responsible for the murders and they start playing all these twisted games with her leading on her a bit of chase to get answers, and wondering who they are.
Alex was lowkey a bit stupid at times in this, and you have to suspend your beliefs that someone would do the things she does and accept her situation so easily etc but had all these been developed it could’ve been soooo good 🌚
Do not read this review if you have thin skin, believe authors should be lied to about the quality of this book or thoroughly enjoyed this book (I have lost faith in you).
“I’m starting to feel like a failure to my FBI training.” At least the fmc is self aware in this regard.
This seems like it was written for children by a child:
“Forensic expert! I want you to catalogue every minute detail!” Their reply “I will catalogue every minute detail of forensic evidence.” (DUH THATS YOUR JOB) “Fbi agent! I want you dig deep into the local town and find out context and motive” Their reply “I will do that blah blah.”
This whole scene was so cringey fr. They were all saying a lot without actually saying anything it’s like someone who understands nothing about how forensics, profilers or the fbi works is trying their hardest to write scenes about those very things. It’s painful.
I will push on… only because I relate to the fmc’s internal thoughts about stalking.
“Alex, you've earned a reputation as one of the best profilers in the field. I need you to dive deep, trust your instincts, and uncover the truth.” !!!! Terrible dialogue!!!!
Idk how much more I can take even for the promise of amazing smut.
If I have to read “delve deep” one more time. It’s like the author is trying to impress us with her thesaurus worthy knowledge of psychological terminology. (Without actually saying anything meaningful or impressive)
I may just hate read this book now.
Soo many big words wowowowowow. L (I’m hate reading now) I hope the suspense is worth it.
Okay; so this is going to be my longest review ever;
- she gets a text that proves they have eyes in her house and she just goes home “to the comfort of her rental house” chills on the sofa and showers. Ok. TSTL
- “I specialize in forensic analysis and evidence collection. I have been working closely with Michael and Emma to ensure we gather every piece of crucial information from the crime scenes.” No shit!?!? Why do these fbi agents explain their roles and responsibilities like it’s a job interview every time we meet someone new. Goddamn it.
- it’s killing me that the author does not share not one bit of evidence, profiling or theories on these murderers (probably because she a. Couldn’t be arsed to actually plot an actual murder or b. Not good enough too)
- so fucking repetitive, every 5 seconds it’s “we’ll get to the bottom of this” “we’ll solve this” “don’t worry we’ll catch them” or it’s “these killers are meticulous” “these crimes are articulate and leave no traceable patterns” “we’ll get to the bottom of these sick and twisted psyche”
Ps. This may be the worst book I’ve ever read and I’m reading it out of spite.
- “I look at Mark, taken aback by his question. His sudden proposition caught me off guard, especially considering the circumstances I am currently immersed in.” THANKS FOR SAYING THE EXACT SAME THING TWICE.
- injected in the neck and immediately unconscious !! Because that’s how drugs work!!! Kill me now.
OMFG!! I was hoping it was the other agents travis and whoever lmaoooo!! You know the elevator boys!?! Haha they were so much more interesting. Wow hahas. Ruined and DNF at like 89%
Note: Some of my goodreads shelves can be spoilers
Overall: 4.5 rounded to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Readability: 📖📖📖📖📖 (This is one I was very eager to get back to – I haven’t been this into a book in a while) Feels: 🦋🦋🦋 Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔 Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡⚡ Romance: 💞💞💞💞 (Some things weren’t romantic to me, they were too gory or over the top – but the things I did love and find romantic were super swoony to me. There is a figure in the opposite doorway, leaning against the frame. The figure is dressed completely in tight black clothes all the way from their feet to the hood that’s raised over their head, even black gloves cover their hands. With a tilt of their head, the filtered light hits their face and all I can see is the detailed skull mask that covers from the nose down.
Should I read in order? This is book 1 in Rose’s The Darling Games series.
Basic plot: Alexandra is searching for serial murderers when they involve her in a game she can’t refuse
Give this a try if you want: - contemporary romance - M/F/M pairing (no M/M) - heroine is an FBI forensic profiler - you don’t mind the plot being very light – this is mostly about the relationship - Dexter vibes – vigilante serial killers - secret identity (heroes) - over the top possessive and jealous mains - pierced heroes - truth or dare texts - very ravishment fantasy - - higher steam – 10 scenes or so - kinks include masked identity, praise kink, pain play, knife play, blood play, throat grabbing, bondage, DP – heroes also do caretaking on the heroine afterwards
Ages: - The heroine is around 28, because she was 8 when she lost a family necklace and it’s been missing ‘for twenty years’, and the heroes a bit older than her I would guess, though ages aren’t stated in the book
First line: The dimly lit room envelops me as I stand in silence, surrounded by the haunting echoes of my thoughts.
My thoughts: Yay for a book playlist!
So I looooooved so much about this novel. This had so much that I was craving and had no idea that I wanted it so badly. Yes to masked men. Yes to primal play. Yes to the dubious consent and stalking and over the top heroes. Yes yes yes. Yes to kinky throat grabbing and forceful acts and also the aftercare and gentleness afterwards. YES. I want to read more like this book for sure. I was sooo anxious to get back to this book when I wasn’t reading it. My parents had to come over during my read and help with a house issue and all I wanted to do was hide and read about Alex getting railed by two masked men.
The book has a few issues but I am here for how books make me feel and this book made me feel THINGS. I loved it. I’d read more from this author for sure, but hoping to find something like this with less….blood?? Not my favorite thing.
Things that didn’t work for me: - detailed murder acts as dirty talk/foreplay. I’m here for all the other dirty talk but not that. - the plot was a farce for the most part – I didn’t mind because I am here for the characters and the fucking and don’t actually care about a good mystery lol but the repeated scenes like ‘we need to keep digging’ ‘there’s something we’re missing’ were rather unsatisfying - the fucking while murdering people on page and flopping around in their blood and using it as lube? It’s too far for me. Luckily there were only a few scenes of that...
Endearments
Quotes/spoiler-y thoughts:Any mistakes/typos are my own
Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.
Locations of kisses/intimate scenes: Safe sex: No and the heroes mess with her birth control so she’s no longer protected from pregnancy and does get pregnant Hows the consent? If you need consent, I would not read this. While the heroine is willing for most acts, there are definite elements of dubious consent, stalking, and feeling of threats of violence to give in to the sex. I went into this with a ravishment fantasy vibe 9% - 🔥 heroine self pleasure (on the short side) I could visualize Derek’s strong physique, his muscular shoulders and arms, his blue eyes filled with intensity.
14% - 🔥 shower self pleasure for heroine (it’s pretty short) It conjures another body pressed to my back, one of their gloved hands wrapping around my throat from behind and squeezing hard as their other gloved hand moves between my legs.
26% - some light touches 31% - 🔥 heroine awakens to oral while blindfolded, then hands are bound behind her back and bj for both men I whimper and gasp again as something brushes the side of my face, a modulated voice then speaking close to my ear. “Awake now, Little Darling? How do you like this for interaction?”
40% - 🔥 knife play while the heroine is at the sink, watching the reflection of one of the heroes. Hero grabs her throat and marks her with the knife, fucks her with the knife handle, then sex bent over the sink then the other hero takes over, binding her hands and fucking her against a wall “I really need better locks,” I snark. He chuckle and the closeness of his body behind me has me feeling it against my skin. The way his voice is modulated gives the sound a sinister edge. “Pretty Little Darling. Do you think a lock would stop us.”
56% - 🔥 somnophilia scene – hero puts a sedative in the air to keep the heroine asleep and gives her oral and begins to fuck her I slowly drag myself out then push back in again. Her moan this time is louder. I can tell the sedative is starting to wear off, I can see the flutter of her pulse in her neck, stretched before me, is starting to flutter faster against her skin.
61% - 🔥 primal play in the forest that leads to sex against a tree, then to the ground with her on top and the other hero does her ass (DP) A chuckle echoes around me. “We feel like it’s time for some role playing, Little Darling. Instead of you hunting us, we are going to hunt you. Through this forest. In the dark.” // “I’m going to fuck you so hard, Little Darling.” His voice is a low, modulated groan. 76% - 🔥 the heroine and heroes murder someone on page and one of the heroes starts fingering the heroine during it, bj for one, then he goes to his knees so the other can fuck her from behind “Do you want to know what I thought when I saw your lips like this?” he asks, his black eyes focused completely on my lips. “What?” I question him in response. He is affecting me more than normal this time, and I have to put it down to all the emotions I’ve been feeling lately starting to get to me. He hums again, “That I can’t wait to see how that color looks smeared on my cock.”
79% - 🔥 her on top, missionary His breath is hot against my ear as he breathes, “Cum for me, and scream my name.”
82% - 🔥 wall sex, then desk sex My lips part and his tongue sweeps into my mouth to tangle with mine. I wrap my legs around his waist, and he uses the leverage to reach down to open his pants.
95% - 🔥 another murder sex scene – the heroine murders someone then fingering o for the heroine, then oral for her while she sits on T’s face and give a bj to D, then doggy, then her on top and anal with the other (DP) “I’m getting impatient too, Little Darling. End it or I’ll fuck you while he’s still watching and bleeding out.”
Extra stuff like what my review breakdown means, where to find me, and book clubs
Full break down on what my ratings above mean here: Overall: How I felt about it everything considered! Readability: How ‘readable’ was the book? Did I fly through it? Did I have to tell myself to pick it back up repeatedly? Were any passages confusing? (I will probably score like (1) is literally unreadable due to formatting/typing errors, etc (2) There were lots of errors that made it difficult to read OR It was extremely confusing and I had to reread passages to make sense of it OR I disliked it so much I had to bribe myself to keep reading (3) I didn’t really want to keep reading and would have preferred to abandon the read and start something else OR some minor continuity issues/confusion (4) I liked it fine, maybe a minor error or 2. I was happy to pick it up when I had time. (5) I never wanted to put this down. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading it. I hid in the bathroom from my kids to read. I threw inappropriate food at my children for dinner so I could read instead.) Feels: Totally subjective to each person but did the book give me any tingles? Any butterflies? Did it rip my heart out (in a good way?) Emotional depth: How well do I feel I know the characters at the end? How much did I feel their emotions throughout the story? Sexual tension: Again, subjective, but how strong was the wanting and longing to me between the characters? A book might have strong sexual tension without a single touch. Romance: Was there romance? Did romantic things happen? This can be actions/words/thoughts of the characters and again is subjective. Sensuality: This is how the intimate scenes are written. Kisses and sexual scenes – how sensual were they? Were they on the mechanical side? Was there emotional pull tied in? Were the details explicit or flowery? These are subjective but generally (1) too short to get a good judgement (2) not all what I'm looking for - very vague or flowery prose (3) either not explicit enough or not enough emotional pull (too mechanical/physically descriptive without the emotions) (4) what I love in a scene (5) absolute perfection - perfect balance of emotional longing and explicit descriptions Sex Scene Length: How long the bedroom scenes are (generally (1) is 1-3 sentences (2) is a few paragraphs to a page-ish (3) is about average, a few pages (4) more well developed scenes, quite a few pages with descriptions (4) the majority of the book takes place in the bedroom. This is always hard to tell for me on audio! Steam Scale: Generally, each flame is a scene. If scenes are super close together I sometimes combine them. If a scene is super short or so vague I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t count it. There’s some levels of grey but generally the number of flames is how many sex scenes there are (I max out at 5 so I’ll put a + after if there’s more than that)
3.5 Stars I rounded up before my boys Truth and Dare!
”I’m Truth,” comes the voice of the figure behind me. “And I’m Dare,” says the one in front of me. “Don’t worry, this is one truth and dare game you won’t have to choose between.”
🔥This is a MFM serial killer stalker romance
FBI agent Alex is assigned on to a case were 2 men are stalking and killing woman. But will this case lead to her own demise once the killers set their sights on her? ‼️I don’t want to ruin the suspense and twists so no Spoilers here.
This was definitely serial killer stalker erotica I’m not complaining but just know that this is ALOT of sex w some storyline. If you’re ok w that then this is for you!
❣️Things I Liked/Loved❣️ 🔥🔥Truth and Dare🔥🔥- damn these boys are OTT JP OBSESSED!!!!!! These men MADE this book! Gah they are ALL ABOUT HER AND ONLY HER! ❤️Sexy times are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 hot as hell 😅 that primal play was 😮💨😮💨
❤️ Super sweet after care ….. swoon💕 like these boys were AMAZING with her after
Things I Did 💔 Not Like -The suspense and mystery could have been better. I wanted more info and breadcrumbs building to the big reveal. I had figured out who Truth and Dare were in the first 2 chapters.
-Way too many repetitive scenes… her in the shower, her getting coffee, her working the case w her partner but w no deets. Just alot of tell not show. It was groundhogs day.
-As things unfold we were given very little deets about the cases and why the guys were after the girls they killed. Breadcrumbs were needed to keep me in suspense.
-More character building for the FMC! This was huge. She struggles w her morals but it fell flat for me cause I didn’t have a sense of who she was at all. No background …no true sense of just HER. So when she gives into her desires it was lackluster. I didn’t FEEL her conflict or the depth cause I didn’t really know her. She could have been anyone 🤷🏼♀️
Safety⚠️Triggers🗡️: ‼️No Virgins/ No history of sexual partners or pasts for any of them. The guys have been obsessed w her for a long time but we don’t know when they were last w OW only that they definitely are NOT V. •No MM •No Cheating or OW •No condoms or talk of STD •Mask Play • Knife Play • Blood Play • Primal Play • Stalking • Bondage • Dubcon • Violence • BC Tampering • Somnophilia •Sexual Asphyxiation • Serial Unalivers • Mentions of past child neglect • Mentions of past drug use (not main characters) • Detailed on page murder • Detailed on page death of a parent •Dry as dirt FMC who has no real personality out side of being sexually depraved 🫣
DNF 36% the writing is so cringe. I really tried to enjoy this, but god it sounds like it was written by a 12 year old girl 😭😭 she has been watching too much CSI, no one talks like that.
This book was so much fun. It was not predictable like so many others. I enjoyed every twist and turn. The mind f*cks in this book were so delicious. The game was played beautifully. It filled my dark kinky heart with joy. I’m ready for more of Alex and her psychos.
Man, I wanted to like this book so bad. Like, the concept is so intriguing! An FBI detective trying to find two serial killers who then turn out to be secretly stalking her? I love that as a concept, but it was just so poorly executed.
The writing is just not good. There's grammatical errors all over, most often missing commas and odd sentence structure. It was really jarring and difficult to read at times. In addition, the author keeps changing between present tense and past tense, often in the middle of sentences. The book is written in present tense, but then suddenly the narration will switch to past tense for a sentence or two and then switch back. That's not only difficult to read, but also just a sign of really poor quality writing. There's also a lot of unnecessary details and repetition. For example, we don't need to know every time Alex wakes up, gets coffee, works, goes home, and goes to bed. It feels as though the author felt the need to narrate each day for some reason and it just became really tiring. Why do we need to know every time she goes to bed? Another example is how the stalkers wear gloves, but we don't need to know that every time they use their hands. Alex makes some comment on how they're wearing gloves at the start of the scene and then for the rest of it she always has to say "their gloved fingers" or "the leather on their hands" or something like that, it's just obnoxious. We also don't need to know what she does at work every day. It's pointless to hear that she and Derek "do interviews and go over every piece of evidence again" every day. It just drove me nuts how almost every time she went to work we had to hear about what she did at work. What's the point if it's not detailed and doesn't add anything? And one last thing, the stalkers keep saying "Little Darling" EVERY SENTENCE. I'm not exaggerating when I say their lines had those two words in them more often than not. It's just not how people actually speak in real life.
The characters also just behave in such unnatural ways, Alex especially. Part of the appeal of a good stalker romance is the tension, fear, excitement, and mystery of it all, but there's just none of that. Alex gets some cryptic messages from the serial killers and instead of feeling fear or paranoia, she masturbates to the thought of masked stalkers in the shower. Fair enough if she gave into her feelings later on, but why does she need to do this so damn early on? It's just not natural. Then in another scene, she meets them for the first time at this abandoned warehouse. No one knows she's there and she loses her gun and gets sedated. She then wakes up again chained to the ceiling. Now...imagine yourself in her shoes. You've just gone to the middle of fucking nowhere, your gun is long gone, and these two serial killers are circling you while you're chained to the ceiling. You'd probably feel terrified for your life, but Alex just doesn't. And she's remarkably calm about the whole encounter too, even managing to put together very long and awkward sentences like "I won't submit to you" and "I won't let you break me". No begging, no screaming, no crying, it's just very odd and unnatural. In general, Alex just doesn't have enough fight in her and it just makes her character very unrealistic and difficult to take seriously.
I also hated how the story progressed. Like I said, Alex acts very unnaturally and not at all like a normal person, which means by the second or third time she meets the stalkers, she already has a repoir with them. She's even joking around and smiling about some of the things they tell her, it's insane. But whatever, eventually she gets this USB stick with all those files, but for some reason she just doesn't examine it for a while. She just glances at it a bit at first, but doesn't come back to it until much later when it's convenient for the story to have her figure out the secret about all the victims in the files. Why not just wait with giving her the USB stick until the story needs her to investigate it, then? I don't get it.
It also just felt way too obvious that it was someone at her work who was stalking her. I honestly think it would've worked better for the story if the stalkers were outsiders and not her coworkers. And what makes it worse is the existence of Agents Decker and Travis. Clearly, and I say this with 100% confidence, the author made these characters purely to trick the reader into thinking they were the stalkers. Their names are way too similar to Derek and Tristian. It's clear the author wanted the reader to potentially connect their names with the names Dare and Truth, but then realized along the way that it was maybe too obvious and so threw in some sleazy and flirty agents with way too similar names. It's just a lose-lose situation, honestly. If it turns out Decker and Travis were the stalkers, then the reader is just gonna think "Well, that was way too obvious", but if it isn't them then the reader is gonna wonder what their whole deal was. And turns out their whole deal was to seduce Alex and make her spill secrets about the investigation, but their efforts are just wasted. They don't seduce her, they clearly just make her uncomfortable. And besides, they only meet her like three times in the elevator. It's pointless, and it's so obvious they were only added to throw the reader off without much care for what they actually added to the story, so the author just had to give them some stupid justification for hanging around.
Next I wanna talk about Derek and Tristian. Tristian's character was dumb because his whole deal was just hanging around the parking garage harassing Derek and Alex about information on the case as he's a journalist. That's fine, but what's dumb is how Alex trusts him way too easily. She's working with extremely sensitive information, but agrees to give it all to him in exchange for his seemingly valuable insight. What valuable insight? He's a fucking journalist wanting to publish a story, what possible reason does Alex have to trust him? Derek sucked too, his only personality traits were to ask "Hey, are you okay?" every time Alex entered the office in the morning and then say "We better get some rest and start fresh tomorrow morning" every evening. His entire character was just boring and pointless. But then, uh oh, big reveal, they were the stalkers all along. And...fine, whatever, but the whole "Oh my god I remember now" thing after Tristian just said "Little Darling girl"... Okay? Having them stalk her since childhood was dumb, honestly. I think the story could've been a lot better had the author taken a step back and just made it a lot simpler. Having Tristian and Derek know Alex from childhood without her knowing and then having them stalk her since childhood, plus all the stuff about James and the criminal organization was just way too much. The story should be a lot simpler than it is, especially considering the length and how rushed everything was at the end.
Speaking of James, that was even worse. Having Alex suddenly remember everything when one of the guys calls James "Uncle Jimmy" was dumb, again. It just ended feeling way too unrealistic and convoluted in the end with these four people all interconnected from childhood, but with only two of them fully in the know. It didn't feel like a big reveal to a mystery, it just felt like the author not knowing what to do with the criminal organization and so just had the big baddie throw himself at Alex, Derek, and Tristian to end his story.
The sex scenes were fine, mostly, but a lot of the scenes were difficult to wrap my head around. Having two guys means there's three people to keep track of and it was hard to, especially when the author didn't describe everything properly. Like, this girl has a guy beneath her in her ass and a guy in front of her in her pussy, but...how? That's how a lot of the scenes were. There were also just some things that happened where the author clearly didn't understand her own scene either. Like in one scene, Alex has her hands tied in front of her and then Derek ties a knot around her neck connected to her hands. It's then said if she tries to touch in front of her that she'll be chocked. But...if her hands are in front of her, then wouldn't that just pull at the back of her neck? That doesn't make you choke. Another thing was how there were two scenes were one of the guys briefly fingered her ass and then pushed his dick into her ass. That just isn't possible, you need to stretch if you're gonna do anal, and it just icked me out that they did it so effortlessly. In real life, that shit would hurt, BAD.
So, yeah. Promising concept, but it just fell flat. The writing is very poor, both in terms of grammar and in terms of quality, the story felt unrealistic, the characters were very difficult to take seriously, and everything was just too complicated. I think there's a great and interesting story here, but the author should've just kept it simple instead of introducing this whole secret criminal organization into it, along with the childhood stuff. Just have the main character be stalked by two serial killers, you don't need to make it more complicated than that.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
2.5⭐️ I did like the first 1/3 or the book, because FBI x serialkillers is a 'fun' trope, but that's it. at least 10% of the book is her taking a shower and 'wrapping a soft towel around my body' 😒🙄
the dialoge felt very flat and not realistic at all... kinda like someone tried to pretend they knew FBI lingo, but actually didn't - which is probably the case since I don't imagine the author being an FBI agent on the side 😂
the book was super repetitive and it felt like I read the same scenes over and over again. I guess if you like the part in Haunting Adeline where he forces himself on her in the beginning and she is scared but her body likes it, you might enjoy this book.
spoiler ahead:
hated the pregnancy trope. the book got so weird at the end and suddenly she was just ki11ing left and right ?? like I get the bad guys deserved it, but it was just very rushed and weirdly paced.
I fell headfirst into this book, DEVOURED it, and I still cannot process what I just read! Maree has just given us a book with so many twists and turns that i think exploded my brain (in the best way possible).
The suspense, the mystery, the twisted criminal minds vibes, the piercing, it doesn’t get much better than this! I’m sure of it!
From page one I was held in a chokehold and when Alex walked onto the new task force unit and a body fell straight in their lap I knew I was in for a wild ride as Alex and Derek worked together (with many a coffees) to try and get to the bottom of this serial killer duo.
From a simple game to truth and dare all the way to hide and seek this book will hold you down until the very end while not only does the plot thicken, but the darkness does too!
Quit @ 26% This book is not complete crap. I absolutely loved the premise, and I was entertained and interested in each of the numerous characters I met in the first 26%. However, I could no longer stand all of the repetition and redundancy. For example, the author mentions how shivers, thrills, and or chills run down, “my spine” 35 times. Also, Agent Darling’s days tended to have the exact same pattern, with her working relentlessly until she couldn’t keep her eyes open from exhaustion. On top of that, a lot of what I read was extremely unrealistic and far-fetched. Agent Darling is trying to track down murderers, yet when she gets text messages from them she never even consider tracing them!?!?! I could tell that this author has talent, the execution was just really poor.
3 ⭐️ It was decent. Felt very repetitive for the first quarter. It did make me questioning everyone at the start though. The spice was excellent! Good dark romance. Would recommend 💋
Хотілось би щось сказати про цю книгу, але в ній хорошого не було нічого, а недолугого надто багато, щоб описувати. Надто примітивно і дуже нецікаво. Хто вбивці вгадала ще в 4 розділі. Жодної інтриги
I couldn’t put this book down! You have Alex Darling who is an FBI agent. She gets assigned to a case to find two serial killers but they end up stalking her and they go by the names Dare and Truth. They make it known that they know every move she makes and even can get to her at work. You meet people throughout the book and you think they all have to potential to be the two stalker serial killers. I loved that it wasn’t obvious who they were cause I was totally off when you find out! I absolutely love the suspense and mystery of this book. When I found out who Dare and Truth are I actually screamed out loud! This book is amazing. The plot and characters just suck you in! The spice🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ read the TWs as well!
My Rating: 3.5 ⭐⭐⭐✨ Series Rating: TBD, but I’m emotionally compromised and dangerously horny
We Have: ✅ Dark Romance ✅ MFM (Yes. At. The. Same. Time.) ✅ Dubcon / noncon-adjacent (read the tags, y’all) ✅ Knife Play, Blood Play, Somnophilia ✅ Stalker Obsession ✅ Pierced Dicks (but WHY won’t they tell me how?) ✅ Dirty Talk That Could End Me ✅ Identity Plot Twist That Took My Breath and My Panties ✅ Dual POV (mostly her, but we get inside the monsters too) ✅ Plot. Real plot. Real fucked plot.
Let me just go ahead and say: I went in blind. I saw the hype. I followed the chaos. And now I’ve emerged on the other side a changed bitch. I need a therapist—not because of the trauma in the book, but because I am devastated that I don’t have my own Truth and Dare showing up to pipe sedatives into my vents and wake me up by eating me alive. I mean that literally. Check my highlights. I can’t even look at my bed the same anymore.
These men? Violent. Possessive. Deranged. And somehow also sweet in the most fucked-up, ride-or-die way that has me questioning every healthy relationship I’ve ever had. I was suspicious of everybody from page one, and when the truth dropped? I gasped. Full-on “oh shit—no fucking way!” levels of stunned. I knew something was off, but still. That reveal hit.
And then the memories? JFC. Eyebrows in my hairline, mouth open, staring like—“Nah. Naaaaahhhh. No fucking way.” That kind of shocked. I wasn’t emotionally broken. But I was invested.
Let’s talk smut. Was the smut smutty? Hell yes. Pierced MMCs, commanding, possessive, deliciously filthy… even if I wished we got more detail on those piercings 👀. It wasn’t quite basement-flooding levels, but it absolutely scratched the dark smutty itch I didn’t know needed scratching.
Truth is a murder-golden-retriever. Dare is a quiet menace with big “I will ruin your life but also rub your feet after” energy. And somehow, the balance works. The banter - yaaassss, the plot twists land, and even though I saw it coming… I didn’t. It was giving “aye yoooo” levels of enjoyment. Not “knock me out” level, but definitely “ooohh that was satisfying” after.
This book is a dark, filthy palate cleanser. It’s messed up in the exact right ways, with a twisty plot that just… does it for me. Solid 3.5 stars. I’ll be diving into book two… eventually. But first, I need a nap, a shot of espresso, and an emergency session with a support group to unpack why I was rooting for the guys who drugged and kidnapped the FMC. aaaaand why I may have been low key jealous….
Holy shit! From the beginning of this book, I was hooked. I devoured the book in less than 24 hours, I couldn't put it down. I kept going back and forth between my guesses but I think that made the book even better. I NEVER would of guessed half of the things that happened.
The spicy was f*** hot. I give it x1000 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶. I've read quite a few MFM but this one was on point. I loved every little part of it. I enjoyed both the group scenes and 1-1 scenes.
Even now, I still keep going back to the book and reading all my favourite parts. I am completely in love with this book. I think it might be one of my favourites now.
I'm so glad I read this book. I seriously recommend you give it a shot!
This book was bonkers but amusing! First, there is no suspense about the mysterious stalkers at all, because our heroine Alex is thirsting for the killers from the very first creepy text they send. There’s barely any yikes oh dear maybe I shouldn’t. Second, Alex is the most lol lmao yolo character ever to be stalked. Every single night she gets strangled and drugged and she wakes up the next morning ready to do it again (after a crisp 10 hours of staring at the wall at work, unable to figure out why the stalkers she’s boinking are killing people).
Then when her creepy stalkers tell her they’ve captured a dangerous criminal, she’s all lol lmao yolo and stabs him.
However, this was all very amusing, but my main beef is that this book is loaded with filler/padding and repetition.
