Rose is a timid healer who’s has been thrust into the supernatural world, a world she’s trying to adjust to. Just as she begins to gain a little confidence in her new abilities, she discovers she’s a fated mate to Maverick, a brash beta from another pack known for his aggressive nature.
When Maverick's pack faces a deadly sickness and he himself lies on the brink of death, Rose must find the inner strength to answer his alpha’s call for help. Now, Rose must decide if she is willing to embrace her role not only as a healer, but as a mate to a man she doesn’t think she could ever love.
When outside forces target Rose, Maverick is pushed to his limits and decides that she is better off by his side. She will have to learn to overcome her fears and accept her destiny before the forces working against them tear them apart. In a world where healing and love collide, Rose must answer the ultimate healer's call. **If you like fated mates, protective males, and strong females, this series is for you. This is a closed-door romance series with sizzling tension and fade-to-black scenes. Each book is a stand-alone and features a different couple but is best enjoyed as part of the series.
A. J. Manney lives outside of Philadelphia with her husband and four kids. Some of her favorite things to do include reading, family days, being a pastor's wife, and watching football on Sunday afternoons with her family
Maverick has been one of those characters lurking in the background of other stories that I’ve really wanted to get to know. I had so much hope that he was more than the angry, brash, somewhat reckless man that he comes off as. Healer’s Call brought that hope to life. ;) Additionally, I’ve been wanting to see Rose come into her own and embrace her own giftedness. How great it is when these two both learn to live. ❤️
This is a YA/NA fantasy. Could be considered PG for 95% of the book with a pg-13 scene towards the end.
Where do I even start? I have been waiting to see what Maverick’s story would look like ever since he popped up at the end of The Dreamer, book two of the Wolves of the Northwood series. I don’t know if I ever would have suspected he would be paired with the sweet, gentle healer Rose, that was saved in The Healer. But here we are, book two of The Healer’s Series, and it is spectacular. Healer’s Call, like the books in The Wolves of the Northwood, is a paranormal romance. Getting a glimpse at Maverick and Rose’s histories and peeking into their thoughts brought so much more clarity to me about their characters. I thought I had a pretty good understanding of Maverick from all of his interactions in the previous books, but boy, was I ever wrong! He feels things deep and bottles all those emotions, locking them tight. But when sickness knocks him down, and Rose is brought into the pack to save him and the other shifters with the mysterious illness, he has no time to prepare mentally for her presence. Rose is so far out of her comfort zone. Leaving the safety of the Northwood Pack forces her to grow and rediscover who she was before she was abducted and embrace her new identity. Watching her resolve to regain control of her life, fight to save the Orlando Pack, and fall in love with the closed-off brick wall of a shifter Maverick was a delight. Watching Maverick fight himself and keep himself from Rose because he felt utterly unworthy and undeserving of her love was hard. He’s not a “nice” guy. But he has a protective and loyal streak like no other, and no matter how hard he tries to hide it, he can’t help how important Rose’s health and safety are to him. When he finally breaks and embraces Rose and his love for her, it’s a beautiful thing. I won’t give away any spoilers because everyone deserves a chance to read and discover Mav and Rose’s story, but there were tears toward the end, even when I went through it the second time and knew what was coming.
What you can expect- Kisses only on the page, but after they are “married”/mated, it is more of a fade to black. This is a paranormal fantasy; you will find wolf shifters as the good guys and vampires as the bad guys. But, like just about everything I recommend, there’s an HEA!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
Loved the 2nd book in this series! Each book is stand alone, and I love that they each have a conclusion but they’re also building to a big reckoning at the end! Maverick was a great character to read about, him and Rose complimented each other well, as I knew they would when introduced in book 1. I was super curious how their romance would unfold as Rose is so timid and sweet and Maverick is so abrupt and rude. But it was very enjoyable, realistic and a nice slow unraveling and they slowly get to know each other better and trust one another. Really great, easy read!
Sooooooo excited for Healer’s Reckoning book 3! From book 1 I’ve been super excited and impatiently waiting to see Ava and Bryce’s story unfold. How will he break down her walls, past all her tough, gruff and dismissive attitudes? They’re both such interesting characters, I love the dynamic of him being an alpha but kind and patient and her being…well her haha. I loved seeing glimpses of them in this book so much, and that scene at the end?! Just made me wish I could jump into their perspective and see what’s going on! As there seemed to be a few scenes/scenarios in this book that might overlap with the next book and be more explained from their point of view (I hope!) well here’s to impatiently waiting another 6 months for book 3 🥹
I loved loved loved this book! Rose and Maverick are just such well written characters with deep backstories. Maverick is from another pack than Rose and he is known for his angry demeanor and aggressive behavior. Rose is a healer who is very timid and meek. When Maverick’s pack members are dying from a mysterious illness Rose is consulted to help. I loved watching the romance between Rose and Maverick unfold. Even when I wanted to shake Maverick and ask him what I’m the world he was thinking. I was enamored with Maverick I loved his gruff exterior and his loyalty. Rose’s character development was such a beautiful thing to watch unfold. She really comes into her own both as a healer and a person. The new pack adds a great layer to the book because they are quite different from Rose’s own. I LOVED the dual pov in this one! This book is the second in a spin off series from the Wolves of Northwood. However, you don’t have to read those first to read these although it would help. Also, it can be read as a standalone but features many wonderful references and appearances from other books. All that to say that I cannot wait for the next book to come out. Content: kisses only
I wanted to love this story. I tried really hard, too. I enjoyed some of the previous ones in this series quite a bit, but...the author skips through scenes too often with no segway, and it gave the story an overall choppy feel. She also leaves a lot that just didn't get fleshed out the way it could have been.
Cade is an idiot in this story and basically goes through the whole book saying thank you for healing us, and I have no idea how or why this is happening. As an Alpha, shouldn't he have more dependable guys to help him figure it out?
Maverick's old pack shows up, but it is never talked about why they came or when they left. Seriously, you left what should have been a main plot hook unwritten. Sigh. It doesn't leave me hope for the next one in the series.
So much more could have been shared about Jacob and Daniel and Jackson. But nope, Maverick just kills the threat and asks no questions. Maybe if the characters would leave someone alive to question, they wouldn't be so clueless. Instead of just being murder hobos any time something looks like it might be a threat.
I just finished Healers Call, which came out last week! This book was so good! It is fated mates, and Mav and Rose have quite a journey to get to their HEA as they are both recovering from abuse. I loved that the story happened organically. They started out more enemies than anything else. Then, through the trials and tragedies they go through, you watch their relationship grow and see them change. They go from total snark and animosity to acknowledging each other as mate and going for the HEA. I finished this book and sat in total contentment. This is by far my favorite couple story in the series. Now to wait for March to see how Ava and Bryce figure things out!
If your looking for your next read put the Northwoods Pack series on your TBR pile and read it. You will be so glad you did! Edit: someone made a good point.....start with the Northwoods Pack trillogy as there is so much background that adds to the story Great GM read with no spice and no language.
“Use your past to fuel your love for your children and your mate. It's the experiences you’ve had that cause you to feel so broken that will make you the mom you need to be." 🩷
I will never tire of her books. I have read all of them, I believe. I will keep reading them. They're entertaining, emotional, full of growth, and love and action-packed scenes. The plot twists were twisting, my friends. The slow burn was sweet, and the romance closed the door. The character development always gets me. She does it so well.
I cried. I did. A few times.
I DESPISED Mav up until I read this book and learned more about him. I'm sorry, buddy. I was hasty in my judgment. 🫶🏻
I really enjoyed the developing relationship between the leads! I loved how Rose slowly became more comfortable- without betraying her anxiety. (1 pet peeve I have is when a main character is suddenly healed from anxiety and never struggles). This is not the case here. Although she becomes more vocal and comfortable, she still struggles with anxiety at moments (which is so real). I think there were some dialogue scenes that could have been cut shorter/less redundant; however, it didn’t impact the enjoyment of the book for me. There was definitely a scene that had me kicking my feet and screaming (cause I enjoyed it so much)!
Content: some gore, fade to black scenes (no explicit content “on screen”)
I'll be honest, I was a little nervous about reading this because so far in the series I wasn't a huge fan of Maverick. Maverick is an alpha hole, or since he is a Beta a Beta-hole? But I feel like she did a good job of making him likeable and she even got me excited to read the next book, which is about another character I'm not a big fan of. So I'm definitely looking forward to that. Maverick is the rough around the edges mate of Rose who isn't so sure about the beta. She goes to his pack to help all the wolves who are sick. Circumstances force the couple to see and understand each other differently. Worth the read.
Rose has been healing those afflicted by a devastating illness in The Orlando Pack
Rose has been saving lives and coming to care about those in The Orlando Pack including her difficult mate, Maverick. Her mate had a devastating loss and terribly cruel childhood. He wants to protect Rose and keep her safe but feels he should never mate her. Rose helps them figure out what was killing their pack members and it is eventually traced back to Vampires who are creating rogue wolves that tat k trying to go after The Healers. Also the Vampires are using the Healers in their experiments. Now the Wolves must prepare for another war against the evil Vampires.
From reading the first healers book I was not as excited for Mavericks story! But I was totally wrong!! His brooding and the slow burn romance where they both grow as individuals and then together was amazing! It was so captivating and had me absolutely hooked from the very first page. The writing style is just amazing! I loved how the story pushed the plot along and connected to past books! I read this book in one sitting! 8 straight hours! Could not get enough! I am so excited for the next one I can’t wait!
I’ve really enjoyed the series as a whole and these 2 characters might be my favorites, but sometimes there are details missing that may eventually show up, but would have made more sense earlier. For example, it was almost like an afterthought much later in the plot that they had switched everyone to bottled water. With people still getting sick after they realized what was happening, but not mentioning the switch, it makes you think they were being stupid. Didn’t help the plot in my opinion.
If you've loved the other books in the series you will love this one too! I loved seeing these characters heal each other and meeting a new family of wolves.
I would recommended reading the books in order because I think you could be confused if you don't understand the characters backgrounds.
This book has great tension and sizzle while staying closed door/ no spice.
I loved this book! This whole series has me hooked. I read the previous series and really enjoyed them too. The characters are awesome and she brings in characters from the previous series as well. But not so much that you wouldn’t know what is going on if you haven’t read the first series. I would suggest reading the first series because it is also really good. This book did end in a cliffhanger, which kills me. And I already can’t wait for the third book to come out.
Better than the 1st book! I read it really fast! Lol
Oh my word! Whew what a love story! And told so very well! I fell in love with everyone in this book! I'm gonna warn you though. I shed some tears with this one! Lol Once again i love that this series is written without the strong sexual content and vulgar language! Im hooked and can't wait to read Ava's story! Lol Awesome job again!
Love these book. Looking forward to reading the rest. I have read all of A.J. Manney books and can’t seem to stop reading them. I can’t put them down. I love how the problems of life we all deal with and know that they are things we can overcome. Please keep writing, and maybe write a little faster. Please. ❤️❤️
Healer's Call was a great book that kept me up reading late into the night. I didn't like Maverick and continued not liking him through a good portion of the book, but I kept reading because I really liked Rose and wanted her to have a happy ending. And, what can I say? He grew on me. I love a good cinnamon roll MMC. Thanks for another fantastic book, A. J. Manney!!
Second in series. Astonishing story and characters. I preordered it and so glad to finally get it. Intertwining plot. Determined heroes and skilled heroines. Could not put it down. Less violence than book 1 but more plot. Close knit packs work together to save each other.
I have really enjoyed this series as each has found their mate. Yet, somehow Mav and Rose story is my favorite so far. I think it has to.do.with all they go through before getting their HEA. It takes a while to warm up to Mav but by the end he had won my heart. Great clean read. I cannot wait to enjoy the journey with Ava and Bryce next.
4.25 — honestly it’s hard to find werewolf that is action packed without smut. But I did with this series which is great for me. I do like some stories and characters more than others.
I love difficult people — and morally grey so obviously this is one of my fav in the series I also felt like I didn’t always know what would happen between them
I enjoyed reading this book. It had just the right amount of intrigue, romance and drama. The characters, while nonhuman except for Rose, have the right amount of emotion as humans. I especially like omission of detailed love making. The implied intimacy left the imagination free to wander. Looking forward to the next book.
I love this Series so much..I read all of these Books 2 times …back to back. Rose lives at( Northwood Pack)…Roses was kidnap by Vampires…and the Pack from Northwood rescue her…Rose finds out many different things about the people in the Pack… much to her surprise…Read to find out what’s going on❤️❤️
Definitely suspense continues to build in the lives of all the characters, I’m enjoying these books so much I can’t even begin to tell you , well written with a story that really works and the characters have a love story that we all want , can’t wait until book 3 is here!!!
I have loved this series so much. You get shifters, romance, and thrills without any smut. I love all of the characters in this series and Rose and Mav’s story did not disappoint. I can’t wait for Book 3 to be released. I hope this series continues on after that, too.
Healers call book 2, this story about Maverick and Rose.
Maverick and Rose story will keep you , wanting more ,the the enter action of their story, the problems , of keeping the pack alive, you just have to read this Book will hold your interest. The Healers series . In book one you will meet the other healers .
If you’re looking for a spice free wolf shifter series- look no further. These stories have strong, protective, alpha (and beta) males and Strong women who love those males. Definitely descriptive kisses but fades to black pretty quick. I will say - the ‘mate bite’ scenes are usually pretty intense. Little to no swearing.
4.5 stars. Another great book in the series. No spice really. But it’s ok because the love 💕 is all it needs. The wolves have a fierceness because of their mates but not so over the top like some shifter series. I like the storyline because it is different as well. I laughed and cried. Onto the next one.
I’m so impressed with AJ Manney as an author. She crafts an amazing story that grabs you and keeps your attention. So many other shifter romances rely on the gratuitous, repetitive sex scenes as a crutch. This author’s style of writing is engaging and refreshing!
