Hello fellow readers. I am a new author, trying to make it in this industry. So please please please help me out. i can't do it with out you guys! :)
Ok, now that the grovelling is over, about me. I have a small boy who thinks his word is gold and knows everything!
I love love love to write. Its insane, I'll be sitting down and playing with my son or watching tv or even studying and BAM! an idea for a story pops into my head and I go "Ok...Let's see where this leads" and I head off and see where the story goes, sometimes it goes somewhere, sometimes it doesn't, but that's life for you.
I was fortunate enough to have been able to beta read Olive.
Although the story touches into the taboo subject of student/teacher relationships it was tastefully done.
When everything you thought was, isn't. How do you carry on as if things weren't broken?
A life built on lies, that's what Olivia has just learned, family turns foe, and friends turn traitors. Then there is Evan, Olivia's teacher, but he is so much more than the predator bias defines him to be, he genuinely loves Olivia. I never doubted it for a minute. He gives her the lesson of a lifetime, he changes her perspective of love, her expectations.
For everything forbidden, their is temptation, for every temptation there is a consequence. Fortunately for Olivia there is one person who will catch her when she falls, pull when she pushes, and love when she's lost. Thanks to Evan, she knows exactly who that person is.
Olivia is sixteen and her whole world isn't as she believed it to be, but then she meets Evan….
At first I found the chapters a little too short and they didn't seem to go into a great lot of detail, but then things start to get interesting. The writing becomes more detailed and half way through the book is when I didn't want to put it down. The book takes on twists that I wasn't expecting and I love when a book does that. Just When Olivia thinks things can’t get any worse they do….
I can promise you this book will pull at your heart strings and leave you feeling attached to Olivia and her story.
Just as Olivia gets her life and family back on track again, He turns up turning her whole world upside down again, but will she be truly happy this time or will fate have other plans?....
I received this book as an ARC. I was so excited to start this book and give my feedback. Words can not describe the emotions in this book. I fell in love with the characters in this book and couldn't put it down. The characters in this book felt so real as if this book was based on a true story, and you felt everything they were going through with every turn of the page. I am hoping this is not the end of Olivia's story. I would love to see what her future holds and where her and Axel go. A job well done. Excellent!! Excellent!!
Olive is a heartfelt story, that pulls at your heart strings! You can't help but love Olivia and hopes she finds her happy ending! The details in this story are in depth and leave you wanting more and more... Needless to say I had to stay up late to finish this book, because I couldn't sleep until I knew the end! I wouldn't say this is a taboo book, as it is not the focus of the story, it's a battle of finding ones self in the midst of real life! Amazing amazing amazing!!
I was able to read for the author of this book.. This book is an up all night wandering what will happen next. It will take for a ride through emotions and then shock you towards the end. This will be a must read when released!!!
I've read this book in a day... shame that I didn't have any tissues in the car on our drive up the Bruce hwy! I will update my review when im home. Don't you love smart phones!
Full review... Updated 10/04/2014
Olive is about a sixteen year old girl who is going through a hard time at home, she's lashing out and flunking in class, this attitude brings her to the attention to one of her teachers, Evan, but he's 25 and soon concern turns into a relationship, now I found the beginning a bit vague and rushed, we never get much background to why the rift in the family really happened and I think this is a shame. You are left with all these unanswered questions.
But I think the story and writing gets better once the relationship is outed. I feel Olive grew slightly as the story unfolded, I did feel for her, and Evan's dilemma - the teacher/ student relationship is a hard one to deal with, but there was only 9 years difference... If fate had them meet just a few years later there would be nothing said.
Just when you think things will get better for them, fate intervenes again... I wanted to shout at her family - she's a grown up mind your own business. But then again when do family's do that!
All in all I enjoyed reading this book, yes in cried, but it is a story of Olive holding onto hope - a hope that things will get better - if she just works at it one day at a time. My favourite part is just at the end of the book, in the support group. I really felt for Olive and was happy in how it ended.... With a little hope.
This book will appeal to all readers, who like true to life stories. it does have sexual references, nothing too OTT, it's not 50SOG, so although it's not for younger readers, I guess with a sexual consent age differing from country to country I'd say Young Adult upwards.
I think if the storyline had been more detailed, for example in how Olive found out about the big secret, and also the dealing of working towards building a better relationship with her family. And also how she coped with the aftermath of her relationship with Evan being found out and His punishment I think I would have enjoyed it more.
Olive was interesting, and I had mixed feelings about some of the situations, but it was a good story. Olivia has just found out something that throws her world off, and not having anybody she trusts to go to, because her family has been lying to her for years, she turns to her welcoming teacher. She's a high school student, and he's her teacher. There's a connection, and eventually things get steamy. But they love each other, and later on it the story, their love is confirmed again. People get in the way, and feeling completely lost and broken, Olive does the only thing she thinks will get rid of the pain. She doesn't succeed, and there's a lot more to the story, but if I say anything else, it'll give it all away.
