Lancaster Prep #5

אמרת שאני האהובה עליך

Rate this book

❝You’re my favorite person. No one gets me like you do, Daze.❞

I really thought I'd hate this book because Arch was like a mean loser in I'll Always Be with You, but THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK IN THIS SERIES. This year, all my anticipated reads are disappointing me, and the books I least expect from? They're really fun to read!

This book definitely has the corny-cringy scenes similar to the other books, but it had the healthiest relationship. I was positive that it would have problematic and ow scenes like the other books, but nope. A few ow mentions, but otherwise, Arch is the most protective person ever. The first 20% is messy, and I see how it CAN bore some people because it has ex info and some FORCED enemies-to-lovers plot, but it got better.

Arch and Daisy have known each other for years because they are always in competition for the 1st position, but they never talked before. Arch, as a punishment, has to work at the admin office for a whole year, alongside Daisy. They had a rocky start at first but started getting along, becoming each other's confidants, and started spending time together, getting to know each other.

Arch — I thought that no one would top Weston, but Arch is my favorite now 😭 He's the least problematic and NOT A MISOGYNIST. His earlier POVs did kind of resemble the other MMCs of this series when he was talking about his ex – Cadence – but I can see his reasons were pretty valid. He kept on telling her NO, but she was persistent, and she was the actual PICK-ME girl.

Arch's obsession with Daisy felt similar like Crew's. Arch said some mean things to Daisy at first for which she slapped him 🤡 and got suspended, but I liked how he told the principal that he goaded her and took her punishment. He's aware of how badly his words can affect the other person and was disgusted by himself. He wasn't egotistical, and very rarely did he take pride in his last name. He's judged A LOT even though he was the least problematic Lancaster and didn't take advantage of his last name at all. There were many times I thought that he'd be a jerk, as in cancelling plans with Daisy to go to a party with his friend because he told him that he'd come?!! He didn't. He was proud to show her off and was happy when she's connecting with his friends. (adding Agora Hills for Arch).

Daisy — her character is good if you read the overall book because it's fitting, but she wasn't interesting much. She's introverted and shy and had her own insecurities, that's why she never made friends even though she wanted to. At some point, I do relate to her longing to make friends, but she couldn't, and that's just her nature. She evolved in the end and made friends eventually. She's not a pick-me, as Arch told her at first, and she's not a doormat either (there weren't any toxic scenes so...), but she stood up for herself when she was confronted by his ex.

❝You’re my favorite person in the whole world. If I could spend every minute with you, I would.❞

Arch apologized to her for his mean words, and they started talking and spending a little time together. They felt attraction towards each other. For Daisy, I do think her father was right when he told her that it's the first time she's getting attention and she's already falling in love, but I do think she had her reasons to fall in love with him. Arch is thoughtful, patient, kind, and he wants to be better for Daisy. He did everything he never did just to please her and realized he loved to make her smile. He took things super slowly, baby steps because that's what Daisy liked.

🌼 Daisy once left her book at her desk with annotations, and Arch slid a note inside of it because he knew it was her book. They started highlighting their favorite parts or spicy scenes with post-it notes. Daisy wanted the anonymous person to be Arch, and she was happy when it turned out that it was him. Towards the ending, they did it once again, and he wrote her a beautiful letter 🥺

❝You’re like the roses you love so much. They can only grow when they’re fed and watered and basking in the light. Let me be your light, Daisy. And you can be my rose. That was really corny, but you know what I mean.❞

🌼 His love language is hugs, forehead kisses, making sure she's taken care of, safe, fed, and happy. He's super attentive and thoughtful, and his gifts were cute 🥺

❝He’s not just the boy I’m in love with. He’s also my friend. My confidant. He makes me laugh, and he brings me pleasure and gives me comfort.❞

When Daisy broke up with him because of her father, instead of being mean about it because it hurts his damn ego, he didn't become mean towards her or confront her because he knows she's not good with confrontations, he gave her space. When his ex asked mockingly to confirm 'If Daisy had dumped him,' he told her that YEP SHE BROKE HIS HEART (lol I really thought he'd be mean or something, but aaaaghhh nopeeeeee). Later on, he followed her and told her 🥹

❝It didn’t have to be like this.❞
❝Be like what?❞
❝Like you took the best part of me and stomped all over it with your loafers.❞
He actually smiles, but it’s the saddest smile I think I’ve ever seen. ❝You own my heart, Daisy Albright. You can kick it, throw it in the trash, do whatever you want to it, but it’s yours. Whether you want it or not.❞

• This book is similar yet different from the other ones in this series. If you kick out and forget Monica's attempts to make it a bully romance, it's the healthiest relationship. Arch is amazing, and he put Daisy above everything. This book does have some eww scenes 😭, but I chose to ignore it because I love it. The parents in this book are seriously so much better, and I thought Arch's mom would be a bitch, but she was actually pretty great. Daisy's father became TOXIC in the middle, but thank God he came to his senses. The epilogue was cute, and the friends in this book are amazing too.

Thank God there were no cameos of Whit because I would've vomited. And I don't understand this author's obsession with the VIRGIN trope because after Summer NOT Savage, everyone in this series is a virgin 🙃 but yay Arch's a commitment type of guy. 🥰

RATINGS:

• Things I Wanted To Say – 1 star (or 0)
• A Million Kisses In Your Lifetime – 4 stars
• I'll Always Be With You – 5 stars

“What are you doing?” I squeak, leaning over to set the Stanley cup on the coffee table in front of us.
“Taking off your shoes,” he says, as calm as ever. He slips each one off, then my socks, and I try to jerk my feet out of his lap, but he clamps down hard on my ankles, keeping me in place.
“They might stink,” I warn him, my cheeks, my entire body flushed with embarrassment.
“They don’t.” He literally brings one of my feet up to his face and breathes deep, like he’s trying to inhale my toes. “Not at all.”

I also wanted to add for this book the author included a lotttt of things I’m sure she herd on TikTok one of them being the phrase “ pick me girl” …. Look if you don’t know what that means you shouldn’t really use it for a character as an insult when she is actually not the pick me girl and the hero’s EX gf was in fact the “pick me girl”

I swear ppl don’t even know what that word means anymore they just use it all the time for heroines 🙄

DNF at 30% lmfao Monica is gonna milk this series for all it’s worth and each book is just gonna get worse then the next.

This was SO bad. I have so many things to say but wow. Let’s start with the basics. This book is extremely cliche and trope-y AKA CRINGE. The plot is extremely similar to A Million Kisses except it’s 1000x worse. Nothing makes sense in this book. Daisy and Arch hate each other at the beginning for literally NO reason. They’ve never interacted before but they absolutely hate each other. What?? Arch was a pretty unlikeable character but Daisy was INSUFFERABLE. I have never seen an fmc cry as many times as Daisy did. She was absolutely pathetic, zero backbone, and zero personality. She was also unbelievably boring and weird. She had ZERO friends and ZERO interests. The only thing she ever did was cut her roses. Without Arch, she was literally nothing. And I hate saying that because Arch isn’t shit either, but he was the only interesting thing about her. She was so pathetic for him to like her it was so hard to watch. At one point Arch calls her a “pick me,” but a few chapters later he says she’s not a “not like other girls girl.” That’s the same exact thing!? But also I hate that these terms were even used in this book it’s so cringe.

Another thing I hated was the mean ex gf trope. I am so sick of this misogynistic trope being used to make the fmc look better. So many romance books have this cliche Regina George-esque mean girl that is not only extremely exaggerated and unrealistic, but it’s ALWAYS used as a tool to demonize women other than the fmc. Cadence’s character is a caricature of a mean girl, and does not at any point resemble a real human being. But of course, we need Arch to have a horrible ex gf so that Daisy looks like the perfect lovely virgin angel. Give me a break.

Lastly, this book has the WORST third act breakup of all time. It literally made ZERO sense?!? Daisy’s father threatens her to break up with Arch, she does, and then Arch just accepts it??! He literally knew that Daisy’s father was causing problems with their relationship but for some reason he’s too dumb to realize she didn’t really wanna break up with him?? And then they just don’t talk for a month?? And when Arch finally confronts Daisy’s dad he doesn’t even put up any resistance and he’s like “sure you can date my daughter buddy.” This was hands down the worst written third act breakup I’ve ever read. And I’ve read SO many stories that have this exact same storyline lmao. It’s so cliche, overdone and unoriginal. Extremely disappointed in this book.

Random things I didn’t like:
-Why does she eat a salad EVERY day for lunch??!
- Parent disapproves of relationship trope ( so overdone)
-blurting out that her mom died in chapter 1 when it was so unnecessary and weird timing
- so many things happen off page
-fmc reading spicy books cringe
- no development of side characters

Duty bound by the family name, 18-year-old Arch Lancaster is anything but happy about spending another year at Lancaster Prep. He skates through classes and evades trouble simply by being a Lancaster. When Daisy Albright, a scholarship student calls him on his behavior, he’s intrigued by her indifference to his status.

I really loved these two and the evolution of their relationship. Arch was so much more tender, and romantic than I was expecting. It was a nice surprise! I would have liked to see things happen just a little differently with a certain situation. It was nothing that impacts my overall feelings, however. No idea if we will get Eve’s story, but I would love to see more of her!

Monica's most wholesome couple yet!

rating: 4.5
tropes: forced proximity, quiet girl x popular guy, he falls hard, academic rivals

Book 5 of the Lancaster Prep Universe follows Arch and Daisy during their senior year. After starting off on the wrong foot, they both end up working in the office during their free period, which kicks off their relationship.

Arch took me by complete surprise because I thought he was going to be the next Whit Lancaster, but he is so sweet. Don't get me wrong, these two did not get along at first, and he has his mean moments, but he definitely makes up for it, and he falls HARD.

There were so many moments when I just wanted to give Daisy a hug. I am so glad that she found happiness with Arch because he cares about her so much. Even though she's quiet, she's got some spunk in her and does not take heat from anyone. She minded her business, but if someone crossed her lines, she was not afraid to speak up for herself.

Definitely a new favorite from this universe.

Academic Rivals to LOVERS!!! Yes please!!

You Said I Was Your Favourite is the fifth book in Monica Murphy’s series of interconnected standalones, Lancaster Prep.

This book took me by complete surprise! It’s unlike any of the previous books in the series but it was amazing nonetheless!!

Arch ended up being such a softie and I really loved that. It set him apart from the other Lancaster men that we’ve seen before.

The Lancaster Prep world is honestly one of my favourites to step foot into. Thank you so much to Monica and Valentine PR for providing me with an ARC I had a great time reading!!

I really enjoyed it and read the book in one sitting because of their chemistry. 📖

Lancaster Prep Universe Has Lost Its Charm

I hate to ever go below three stars for any book, but I fear that even a two-star rating is being somewhat generous. I feel like Monica Murphy should expand her writing worlds beyond Lancaster Prep at this point as everything after Crew and Wren’s love story has been lackluster and continuously going downhill.

This story felt insular, it felt rushed, and it was a regurgitation of tropes we’ve already read before in this series (that were done better then too).

I literally couldn’t take it anymore. Archibald (that is literally his name) is so disgusting. Honestly rapey as hell. Touching her (the fmc) and making her uncomfortable. He also talked about his little sister's chest. Wtf. He calls women bitches when he doesn’t get his way. He is 18 by the way and the fmc is 17. I think it is messed up to write something like this at this author's age.

Daisy and Arch made me feel like Wren and Crew did and that, my friends, is the best compliment I can give this book.

Book 5 of the Lancaster Prep series (standalone) follows our two smarty pants of school: Arch and Daisy. They are academic rivals competing for the valedictorian spot of their class.

Well, Arch is DOWN! BAD! for Daisy. Oh my god, he is obsessed with her and it is the best thing EVER. He is a literal sweetheart and I absolutely adored him.

Monica never misses and I love her men so much. This was one of those books that I had a hard time putting down, I loved it so much.

You Said I Was Your Favourite is different from all the other books from the Lancaster Prep series but it’s still everything you are expecting.

we are back at Lancaster Prep and I couldn’t be happier. I loved both characters and the way that they make each other better 🫶🏻 I loved Daisy so much and I just wish I could hug her. and then we have Arch. I was not expecting him to be so sweet and kind to Daisy. and he falls HARD for her. It was truly cute to see them together ✨

Monica Murphy never misses in writing these types of books with characters that easily captive you and have you rooting for them. I enjoyed this book so much. The storyline is so interesting that I couldn’t stop reading!

Daisy and Arch are both completely different characters but they bring out the strongest parts of each other. Every moment between them was interesting to read and I liked reading how their characters progressed throughout the book. Their chemistry is one of my favorites written by this author. It really made me miss this series and the characters.

I was very much looking forward to reading this book, and it ended up being everything I wanted it to be.

I just adored Arch and Daisy and I had the best of time seeing how their story unfolded. Everything about this one just really worked for me. I loved seeing them together, how they talked with each other and the connection that they had. I loved seeing them together and how they were ready to do everything to be together. I just loved seeing how desperate they were to be together, it was so lovely.

I had the best of time reading this book and I loved it a lot.
