As this series has continued I’ve come to hate the main character. The anime is a lot more forgiving than the light novel bc here he is a huge asshole. It could be the translation being harsher, but he comes across as a complete pain. He complains about everything, moves further into being an incel, calls so many people a disappointment (while ignoring his many issues), and is a creep. I doubt I’ll buy the other ones when they come out bc the Mc left such a bad taste in my mouth. I tried to finish the rest as quickly as I could bc I wanted it to be over. I still gave it stars bc I love fel, sui, and gon. I also enjoy almost every other thing about the series, except for the internal monologues of the Mc.
All I can say is, this entry into the series was delightfully absurd.
Our party decides to clear the Brixt dungeon, and they got far more than they bargained, and that is besides the treasures and drops. I always enjoyed the dungeon diving aspect of the story, since in another lifetime, I was an avid MMORPG gamer and fan, and this entry did not disappoint. Although, I wished that the fights were more detailed and more experiences in the dungeon could be poured in, but oh well, it is actually more slice of life and food based so I will let it slide.
Our dear Mukohda eventually ended up with another handful of a familiar who is once again led by it's tastebud and this familiar is as incredulous as it is ridiculous. All I can say is that the mythical creatures in this series' world are all so petulant and greedy, but I guess that's what makes it funny and endearing.
Argh, I just want the books to keep coming so I can dive back in more, but I guess now I just have to wait for a bit for the next book, then longer for the one after, and who knows how long for the next. But I will definitely be revisiting in future when it comes.
I’m all like book, book, book yippee!! In Sui-voice and then like pew pew pew it’s all over. Boooo! Make these books longer, like an extra hundred pages or so, give us some more check ins between chapters on what’s going on in Karelina whenever Mukhoda thinks about them durning a chapter. With Gon, around, it’s most likely a quick flight to an undisclosed dungeon is a likely plotline for the book down the line, but first, back home to increase the holdings some more and hopefully hook up with an Eilf! Mukhoda’s spring must bloom at some point!
Still interested but one-dimensional characters make it difficult to love
I kept nodding off while reading the first quarter of this book. It was much of their same antics where cowardly Mukoda gets dragged into a dungeon and the familiars demand copious amounts of food. This and the gods/goddesses' appeal for offerings is getting stale fast. I wish the author would change these points up a bit.
But the story did pick up after the gang meets a new character. I think he adds a nice new dynamic to the group, especially with Fel. There were more reactions from other characters which was also interesting.
At this point, it's Sui the slime that's really carrying the likeability of this entire series. Mukoda and the gang are just so one-dimensional that it's a drag to read when the focus is just on them. The series is interesting when the story is event and plot heavy so I hope the author will add more of it to the next volume.
And there goes Mukohda, gaining yet again a new familiar!
Mukohda just goes, cooks and then all of a sudden gains a new familiar. Nothing new. Just the usual! Lol
But really, it's the same pattern yet again, and it's always so funny. This time, more so, because It's always fun to read about the bewildered people learning about his familiars and this time, it's triply funny because the scale of Mukohda's familiar-bagging is just simply growing lmao I love how that all went down too.
The dungeon diving this time has finally come to an end and it's especially a fun read at the end. All fun!
This was really good! Very refreshing. Also very funny - everything that happened on the last floor in the dungeon was great, especially Fel being petty. Also Mukohda being oblivious was pretty fun too.
This is currently the last volume published in English, so hopefully it won’t be too long before volume 13 comes out. I’ll look forward to it when it does.
Overall, while I do have my problems with this series I do rather like it. It’s very easy to read and pretty fun. Very much a “brain off but still want to read” type of series. Also I highly recommend watching the anime if you haven’t yet.
The food Descriptions in this volume is correct. Very entertaining The character development Is better than the last volume Though the protagonist is still a coward. I will love to see him Develop a backbone at one point. At this point in the story line it makes no sense for the MC not to develop in any way. The food descriptions truly make my taste buds salivate. The Descriptions are so good I'm fairly sure I can make a recipe by reverse engineering it. If you are looking for a relaxed story with no real plot line this is the story for you.
I binge read this. I love the weakness of the main character. It really has the Japanese vibe. Of course being in another world is unsettling and I wish he was not so him. But the story wouldn’t be the way it is if he wasn’t. Like how he is nice to sui or his expectations of Gon, the ancient dragon. He is a different hero and I live for the calmness of the main character plus the adventure of his life! But if you haven’t read a book in a minute, you miss bits and pieces of information that flies by which is why it is only a 4 star for me. But the author does well to remind you at least.

I don't think the author ever heard of something called character development. MC is still a usesle good-for-nothing coward. He complains about everything, never try to participate in killing monsters unless his familiars force him, act like a moron and never stand for himself. Unfortunately, I'm still interested in the series so I will keep reading it. I wonder when will I reach my limit with it and give up on it.
I'm as bad as the disappointing cake and sweets eating goddess, in the fact that I can't get enough of these books! I always finish reading each new book too fast and am left longing for the next one... I guess I am the disappointing bookworm! Looking forward to the next one Ren Eguchi, please hurry 🙏 and thanks for the wonderful story so far.
This was a great volume in that there was a lot less of the cooking details and lot more of the actual story. Hope vol 13 follows more of the 3 high schoolers that got married, perhaps with a run-in with the solitary chef and his gang.
I'm still in awe about Mokouda continuing his adventures with his familiars. I like how vividly the description of the levels in the dungeon were. I believe the god of all creation treats Mokouda as his entertainment. I hope with the ancient Dragon on his side...Mokouda will have more time to stay at home.
This continues to be an enjoyable, somewhat relaxing series. It's kind of sad to me this is the last of the currently translated volumes it seems there's a 13 that was released in Japan, but has yet to be translated. I'm enjoying the anime and re-reading the series is always fun to do.
The dungeon diving continues and I had a lot of fun with the whole adventure. The surprise at the end of the dungeon was great and I’m really looking forward to the next volume.l
Finally we are back to 5 stars! This starts when the crew is back on floor 40 of the Brixt Dungeon. Loved the quote from Fel to Mukoda: "Your frailty never ceases to attonish." I mean this is volume 12 and Mukoda still a good for nothing other than being a good cook. They reach the end of the dungeon and pick up another Familiar...YES! They learn about the Church of Rubanov which will be re-visited on a future installment. Mukoda continues to donate to churches and orphanages. They also learn about the next dungeon on the Kingdom of Vondel which had collapsed but the area is always under war, YES! Can't wait for the next one. It ends on them getting ready to leave and everyone panicking because of the dragon :) Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!
