I am a thriller writer, living near London. 'Death Force' is the first in a series of books following a group of mercenaries around the world. It owes a lot to action, adventure writers like Alistair MacLean, and World War Two writers like Sven Hassel. It also owes a lot to Westerns. When I'm not writing thrillers, I write a financial column for Bloomberg, and I write for The Spectator.
Exxciting and fast-paced cyber thriller with memorable cameo characters such as the Somali people-mover. Despite some highly implausible twists in the plot, I couldn't put it down. The transformation of the protagonist from a fairly weedy London entrepreneur into a super hero was remarkable.
The description of this book was intriguing and and I was eager to read it. For the most part the story was believable (though perhaps not your friendly neighbourhood human trafficker)and fast paced. BUT, after completing 65% of the book I couldn't read any more typos or grammatical errors. Lawyer is spelled (or spelt) just like that, not layer (at least 3x), as it was repeatedly. Someone leaned or leans, not lent, as in Paul lent over the table. And worst of all, the name of the main character was chronically written as Paul Tuner not Turner. If you can't get the name of your main character correct you have a big problem.
I won't profess to being the be all end all of spelling and grammar, there may even be errors in my review, but then I'm not calling myself a writer nor asking you to pay for what you read. I'm always frustrated by authors who do not use spelling and grammar checks or editors, it shows a serious disregard for their readers.
I wanted to like this book and I wanted to finish, but life's too short to read bad books.
Loved it. Fast paced thriller with likable characters. Nice plot around a mathematician that was killed and a kid brother being chased by a google like organization and i found myself having problems putting it down. I discovered this writer for his action thriller series about a soldiers unit, but I have to admit that this guy writes very well about other subjects as well. The plot was satisfying and nowhere weak as was the action. The Somalian twist was nice and very well done. If a writer manages to probide this feeling when reading one of his books he has me hooked for the rest of his work as well. iam looking forward to read his other books as well. Well done and recommended.
