From Bridgett Nelson, the two-time Splatterpunk Award-winning author of A BOUQUET OF VISCERA, POISONED PINK combines the acclaimed, bestselling collections WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? and SWEET, SOUR, & SPICY into one venomous package!
A famous author holds a contest to have characters named after his biggest fans – but after the book is published, the fans begin to die exactly as their characters did. A childhood friendship turns terrifyingly dark, and stalking is taken to a demented new level. A deranged serial killer has a special affinity for a deadly – and heinous – weapon. Two college heartthrobs are thrilled by the completely unexpected sex games their girlfriends want to play…until things go much too far.
Also included is the bonus story, “Ambush,” in which we learn that the creatures of the ocean are even more frightening and dangerous than we thought.

Once an operating room registered nurse, Bridgett Nelson so enjoyed playing with human organs, she decided to turn her macabre interest into a horror writing career. She loves bubble baths (because nothing says spooooky writer like orange-scented bubbles), hates not knowing what’s swimming in the water with her, lives for Halloween season (but loathes chainsaw-wielding dudes in haunted houses), adores her West Virginia University Mountaineers, is very pro-Oxford comma, and thinks bananas are absolutely disgusting.
Her first collection, A Bouquet of Viscera, is a two-time Splatterpunk Award winner, recognized both for the collection itself and its standout story, "Jinx." Deadgirl, the novelization of the cult classic film, is now available from Encyclopocalypse Publications and includes forewords from the film's actors, Noah Segan and Shiloh Fernandez, a Q&A from screenwriter, Trent Haaga, and a fan fiction piece from noted horror author, Jeff Strand. Her latest collection, Embracing the Profane, includes fifteen extreme stories that play on Bridgett's dark humor and twisted brain. She is also the author of Poisoned Pink, What the Fuck Was That?, Sweet, Sour, & Spicy, and Red Inside, a finalist in the 2025 Books of Horror Indie Brawl.
Her work has appeared in multiple anthologies, including the iconic Deathrealm Spirits, Crystal Lake's Hotel Macabre, Edward Lee's Erotic Horror for Horny Housewives, The Rack, GhabaGhoul, To Hell and Back, Evil Little Fucks, Y'all Ain't Right, Splatterpunk's Basement of Horror, Dark Disasters, October Screams, American Cannibal, A Woman Unbecoming, and the legendary Splatterpunk Zine.
Bridgett is working on her first original novel, a sequel novel to her most popular short story, and a collaborative novel with a very funny writer.
When Edward Lee read her story "Giggly," available in the Poisoned Pink collection, he said to her:
"Giggly kicked my ass. Outstanding job! I need therapy now."
Bridgett is mom to Parker and Autumn, three pugs, a Saint Bernard, and a ball python. She is a 2022 Michael Knost WINGS award nominee, won second-place in the '22 Gross-Out contest at KillerCon in Austin, Texas, and third-place in the ’23 Gross-Out contest.
She's a freelance editor. Audiobook proofer. Bookworm. Dog lover. Tarantula whisperer. Bra avoider. ENJF. Amaretto Sour obsessor. She/her.
Bridgett currently lives in Duluth, Minnesota, with Bram Stoker Award-winning author, Jeff Strand, and their ball python, Indie Hellspawn McFangy Serenity Strand.
2.25/5⭐️ Honestly was very disappointed by this!! I usually LOVE female horror authors, but this just didn't do it for me. Definitely NOT a splatterpunk either (with the exception of "Giggly")...just a collection of horror stories. The ending of every story was SO damn predictable which made me feel like it was a waste. I enjoyed "Rewards" a lot, the gore of "Giggly", and the way that the author writes and uses details, but I don't think I will be picking up her work again anytime soon.
Five stars all day she has quickly become one of my favorite authors even though it isn't my usual genre I would read just about anything that this author writer's!!@
This is another prime example of why Bridgett is one of my sight unseen, automatic read authors. Poisoned Pink has a variety of horror stories that has something for everyone. From a story so extreme that I gagged to a ghost story filled with so much emotion it hits all the feels. Each story is masterfully crafted and populated by characters that run the gamut from sympathetic to the pure embodiment of evil. My two favorites were Giggly and Bark Off.
Giggly might just be the most extreme outing Bridgett's done. It was visceral, brutal, and got a gag out of me.
Bark Off is a great ghost story from start to finish and very different from anything else she's ever written. The horror is there throughout the story, but it takes a backseat to the emotion of the story.
This collection is a must read, not just for fans of Bridgett Nelson but fans of horror in general.
Twenty One days it took me to finish this book and not because it was long but because I just had no desire to pick it up. I definitely didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. Out of a collection of seven short horror stories I’d say I really enjoyed four of them, with “Rewards” being my favorite. (Gave strong knock knock vibes) I guess now that I’m writing this out and thinking about it I did enjoy all of the stories and the writing style, however going into this book with “Splatterpunk Award Winning Author” splayed across the cover I expected a lot more hardcore gore. Good read for October nonetheless.
This dark anthology showcases a range of evil and darkness that covers a lot, from sadistic stalkers and deviants of either gender to deep sea terrors and supernatural critters, it runs the gamut. If you like all kinds of explicit darkness and even a hit or two in the feels, this is one for you! Not for the feint of heart!
I read the first story and one page of the second story and had to dnf. I am a horror nut but this is more like torture horror and that’s not at all my thing. The first story has multiple instances of rape and the second story is definitely going to be some sort of killing and dismembering of women with a side of necrophilia . No thanks.
