Highland warrior Alex MacDonald has made an agreement to handfast with Anne in order to bring a halt to the feud raging between their clans. The last thing he expects though is a woman claiming to come from the future, a woman who stirs him on a physical and emotional level to protect, and to even believe.

When Anne finds herself in her MacLeod chief's presence, she chooses to go with him in order to leave a message for her parents. In full pursuit, Alex wages a battle of the heart, and of the very essence of time. Can he defy the odds as Anne is taken from him...to work his own magic and get her back?

I wasn't very impressed with this book not like the novella which was wonderful. The main characters didn't have much depth to them and the romance started far too soon in this book, no sizzling between them left it flat for me. I also didn't feel much excitement going on sorry this one was disappointing. Not sure I will try the next one at all.

Honestly really terrible but just what I wanted. The narrator had a horrible tone for the male character though made me want to stop reading it.

~Spoilers ahead, you have been warned!~

A romance swept up in time!

Anne MacLeod is touring the ruins of Dunscaith Castle, a Castle where her ancestors once lived, when she finds herself pulled through time into the 16th century. While at first confused, Anne quickly pieces together that she has somehow ended up back in time. Upon her arrival she is escorted to Dunvegan Castle where she is expected to handfast with Alex MacDonald in place of her ancestor Annie MacLeod.

In a strange turn of events as Fate would have it Anne and Annie could be each other’s twins. Not only do Anne and Annie look alike but they are also the same age and have both lost their parents in tragic circumstance’s three years past. Their differences, other than a slight difference in their names, Annie was born to the 16th century while Anne was born in the 20th.

In a bid to escape marriage to Alex, Annie makes a wish upon the MacLeod Fairy Flag and finds herself in experiencing life in the 20th century. A week later she is whisked back into what was her room at Dunvegan Castle and brought face to face with Anne. Just after Annie explains the why and how of what is going is on she is once again whisked away and Anne finds herself meeting and handfasting with Alex MacDonald.

Realizing that she has a chance to save her parents’ lives, Anne sets her mind to convincing Alex that she is in fact Anne from the 21st century and not the Annie that he was promised to. In spite of her best efforts Alex is convinced that her tale is just a tale, right up until Annie disappears and then reappears 10 hours later looking several pounds lighter and with a strange metal contraption.

Now Anne finds herself being pulled back and forth in time and uncertain of what year she will land and if she will stay there. Alex desperately tries to send her his own message through time and wonders if he will ever see her again.

So this was kind of a fun book to read and if you’re reading it for fun and as a fantasy then it’s wonderful! There were some bumps in the story some of them were worked out and others just didn’t quite make it. One is how easily Anne accepted what was happening; she was almost too calm about everything that was happening. Another thing was how Annie in the beginning explained how the Fairy flag worked and that it was a ‘give and take’ process, only in the end it seemed to be all take (or give depending on how you look at it.).

Flaws or not I’m still looking forward to the next book in this series. Despite what may not have worked for me, in the end I found that I couldn’t wait to pick up the next book in the series.

Steamy time travel historical romance! An enthralling love story of a woman from the modern time and a highlander from the past. Alex is everything I love in a Highlander hero-sexy, strong, protective and possessive.

After impulsively buying the series solely because it was on sale and it’s a Scottish romance, Madi, Theo, and I decided to dramatically read it. With accents and everything. Of course, we judged the horrible writing, storytelling, and editing the whole time. We got about 20% in and everything escalated very quickly and we quickly stopped and well...if ain’t good folks.
The concept is actually good, well it would’ve been if it was actually written well (which it wasn’t!)

May I wish upon a Fannie Flag where dreams and wishes really do come true!!!

This book's starts out in present day Scotland heroine of this book is New Zealander Anne MacLeod. who has been lost and heartbroken since loosing her parents to tragedy three years previously. Anne now has a yearning to learn all she can about her Scottish genealogy and ancestry so she decides to take a holiday to Skye, Scotland learns all she can about Clan MacLeod. As is also very curious ad determined making her Scotland tour guides a bit bonkers always wondering off even when told something might be dangerous or of strange occurrences. As she is told to careful walk the ruins cliffs and the walled bridge is unsafe and to take the beach access but of course Anne being an adventurous sort doesn't listen just as she is told strange occurrences have happen over time at these ruins and then a flash of lightening and pop she is in Scotland 1590!

Then she meets the most handsome highlander and finds out she's hand fasted to him Alex MacDonald as well in hundreds of your into the past, also she find out all these occurrences have happened due to another Anne MacLeod her ancestor and twin as she she is identical in everyday physically not just in name. And MacLeod of the past she finds out who was unhappy with the handfast and makes a wish on a fairy flag. The hand fasting was ,originally done to keep the feuding clans at peace.

Now Twenty first century Anne feels quite the opposite of her ancestor as she feels the immediate attraction toward her sexy betrothed highlander as does Alex when 21st century Anne come into his world. So basically the two Anne's trade places as her ancestral cousin is amazed at the wonders of the 21st century. The problem is there is no controlling when you are going to pop in and out of world. Plus Anne wonders if she can change past history as well. The attraction between Alex and Anne makes the pages sizzle and I also loved the scenes with Anne and Alex's mother it was so touching as one missed her daughter and the othet missed her deceased mother so the bond was really beautiful between the two women.

I also loved the true history of Dunscaith Castle called as the story was based on with the hero and heroine being fictional character but the feud between MacDonald and MacLean did exist as many feuds between clans existed such as Clan Mac Gregor verses Clan Campbell etc. I love when some true Scottish history is incorporated in the story even if some names might change and fictional characters added. After all it is a Scottish historical time travel romance.

I definitely recommend this time travel Scottish historical romance it was so enchanting and captivating with many twists and turns which all made it a fabulous read. I was given a free copy of this by the author for an honest review and I am so glad I did!

Thank you so much Joanne Wadsworth for sharing your wonderful book with me!

I look forward to future books by this author I can't wait until the next one! I shall be reading and reviewing Highlander's Captive (next, a novella) by Joanne Wadsworth.

Amazing!! I could not put Highlander's Castle down. It was a fun adventure of love, lose and time travel. I loved Anne and Annie MacLeod and their time travel adventure. They are identical ancestors who meet because Annie MacLeod wishes on the fairy flag at her cousin's castle that she will not have to marry Alex MacDonald. It seems fate believes that Anne and Alex should be husband and wife, so Anne is transported back in time to meet and handfast with Alex. The connection between Anne and Alex was almost instant and you can almost see the sparks fly. You could feel all of the character's emotions as if they are your own. As I read each word I watched the story unfold in my mind. I love Joanne Wadsworth's writing and her ability to capture your attention from the first page. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Wadsworth but it sure will not be the last! Thank you for such a wonderful book.

I really enjoyed Highlander's Castle, it is a beautifully sweet romantic book, I loved it.
Anne MacLeod was a feisty character, when she finds her holiday vacation turned into more of an adventure than she anticipated she wasn't fazed at all.
Alex MacDonald, her hand fasted husband was more of a problem, to believe her fantastic stories was hard for any one.
The two characters had a close chemistry and when the scenes got hot the pages sizzled nicely, and off cause love conquers all.
The ending was very touching and I look forward to reading more from the Highlander Heat series.

Time travel love

My complete discussion on this book: https://taquandataylor.wordpress.com/...

Aww a love that can travel through time. This was cute and interesting with the time travel element. I enjoyed the fact that I did not have to look up any words, halting my reading.

I can't..... it just... was so corny but not in a good way.... and this is coming from a girl who likes corny. It was just so unrealistic. She was just totally fine with everything and in love with him the day she met him and gahhhh I literally had a hard time reading this.

Started reading, but only got through the first two chapters before I gave up. The characters were bland and I didn't care to find out more about them. What finally got me to stop reading was the style; it reminded me of awkward teenager-y attempts at writing romance.

This book just wasn't for me. I totally loved the concept of time traveler, but I didn't need the sex scenes. In all fairness, the cover showing a hunky male...should have given me a clue that this book was at least PG-17. I thought the author had a great deal of fun with this story.

Emotionless insta love between cheesy robots

At best this book was cheesy. At worst; a story written only for erotica. There was very little depth to the story and the most unbelievable chemistry and romance. Unbelievable mainly because there was zero chemistry and zero emotional connection between Anne and Alex. It was pretty much insta love and the rest of the relationship after that was sex.

I find authors like Joanne Wadsworth, who make an instant love relationship between two characters, extremely lazy. There is no effort put into the love or the story, no development or twists, no getting to know the characters, their strengths and weaknesses. It's simply dull and unrealistic the way she wrote it. To make a good, heartwarming and 5 star love story you need to put some effort behind the relationship development. Instead of a lazy as f instant love with no depth, corny declarations of love and understanding (pretty much the only dialogue between them) and basically only sex, write a growing love in the relationship. Make the characters spend time getting to know each other, joke with each other, argue and find their right places in the relationship. Not only would it make a believable and likable romance. It would also develop some personalities for the characters. Instead we have these empty of emotion characters that they almost felt like programmed robots.

I found Anne so unbelievable and unrealistic. She could never be angry, scared or confused. Basically any emotion or mindset other than happy, neutral and overly confident did not exist in her world. There were moments where she should have been sad or angry in the book and it really annoyed me that the author did not take it anywhere. When someone tells a person to shut up because he does not believe her, you should become angry. When you think you will never see the love of your life again you should be devastated. Nothing of that though. Anne and many of the characters were pretty much robots when it came to emotion. Another reason why the relationship felt unreal.

The worst part of all was that some things just did not make sense. Now, I did not count the days Anne spent in the past, but I think it was around 5 days at most. Plus the 10 days at present time. So, at around 15 days she finds out she is pregnant? Right me if I'm wrong, I'm certainly not an expert in that area, but can you really find out if you're pregnant 15 days from conception (and that's just assuming that it happened her first day in the past)? It seems very unlikely.

There is only one reason that I give this book two stars and that is for the accuracy, detailed world build and accurate accent of that time. At least, Joanne put some effort into that, but it is far from saving this book. She should have put that effort into the personalities, romance and for the love of god gotten rid of all those super cheesy lines, speeches and ending.

There’s a certain suspension of disbelief one has to have to read and enjoy time-travel romance. Especially anything that travels more than 300 years back in time. (The reason for this is the Great Vowel Shift which changed how English was spoken – and written.) Forget accents… most modern English-speakers wouldn’t register what was being spoken as the same language. Now, I can move past that,I like a good time-travel romance. Some of my favorite stories are time-travel based….However Highlander’s Castle by Joanne Wadsworth takes that suspension of disbelief and stretches it to the point of snapping.

First off, we’re expected to accept that Anne MacLeod just so happens to switch places with her identical ancestor/relative who just so happens to also be named Anne MacLeod. Yeah. No. Not buying it. There are other coincidences and contrivances. And about 3 deus Ex Machinas that if I didn't have a "finish what I start" mindset I would have DNF'ed this.

Then we get into the mechanics… which I will give Joanne Wadsworth her due… the Fairy Flag is a real thing. And I haven’t seen it in Romance before… not to say it hasn’t been used… just that I haven't read it. There is decent research and as someone who has a degree in history with a focus on this time period I appreciate that. But it was about the best thing in this book.

What was not good? The characters. They were flat, cardboard cutouts, with only the barest hint of personality. When one of the side characters has more personality than either of your main leads... it's a problem. I also started to wonder if the MFC was an author avatar... White blonde hair, from New Zealand, similar build... I haven't read enough of Wadsworth's books to know and after this, I won't bother. Even now, less than 12 hours after finishing the book I can't tell you anything concrete about either of them personality wise. The only motivation the MFC has is to save her parents from a house fire -- which I am not getting into the logistics of that. Other than that... they're both blank slates and that meant I didn't have any investment in their travails.

Which was good because pretty much as soon as a conflict was introduced it was solved in the same paragraph. There was no suspense or even concern that the characters would overcome their problem. Everything was wrapped up in a neat little bow and handed to them. Everything moved too fast. From the love story, to the overarching plot, to climax, to the love scenes. Everything was poorly paced.

I checked this book out because I love highlanders and I love time travel. However I can't in good conscience recommend it. The only reason why it has 2 stars is that the technical aspects of the writing were good and that there weren't any egregious no-nos.

But that's not a good enough reason to buy this book. Even if it is Free.

First of all I don't like bashing books, I think of them as people hahha ecah one a special different individual, but this one I just wasn't a fan.
I absolutely love love historical time travel fiction books, and e specially ones setting in Scotland, Highlander books, since of course my addiction with Ms. Diana J. Gabaldon's Outlander books, but I have read a few more on the topic- like the Dreams of a Highlander, by K.Baker or She owns the Knight, by D. Darcy which are also excellent books, highly recommend them!!
This one though is just not good. The story feels like it's rushed, the characters not deeply developed and the story not very interesting. The main character acts like time travel is like going to the grocery store, esay breazy every day thing, the love story has no depth, no cute suspense or romanticism, its just bam she's here shes in love there's a baby the end.
This story has potential to be supper cute, if it would be better developed, better described, the characters better introduced and had some back story, some depth to them and of course more pages and definitely more historical background.
Again I don't bash books and I feel bad for doing it to a time traveling Scotland based book, but because it's one of my favorite genre of literature, I feel I must.
And btw I don't get the many 5 stars ladys are throwing at this, while other great books get bashed.

This book has a really good start, I really like Anna for she being really goofy and sassy LOL. Sassy girl is my fave character of mine!! You GO girl!!

She even surprised Alex, her “supposed intended” by offering friendship and acted so chill about their handfasting. So apparently here, both of their clans have agreed to handfast for a year only (I don’t really understand this part but whatever) to end the feud between their clans. Since Anna knew it’s not permanent she just thought “why not make the best of it?!” I really like her attitude which by the way brings Alex to his knees because of her direct approach have caused him off guard LOLOL!!

There is one thing I don't like about the girl though, I know she loves her parents dearly but COME ON! girl!! their dead for three years already and you should move on with your life!! There was this moment when I thought she's seriously going to leave Alex just to see if she indeed save her parents' life from the accident in the future time!! He friggin cares about you!! Well, although I don't really feel their chemistry when reading it (cause the pace here is too fast) LOL.

Would I recommend this? Maybe If you're in the mood for a quick read then yes I guess?!?

Finally! A highland time traveler who’s actually SMART!

I think I might continue the series, maybe one more book but I wouldn’t finish the whole thing.

I also like how each book is a standalone. I felt fully stated with the story, there were no loose ends or suggestiveness toward who the next book in the series might be about, which I liked. 👍🏻

(⚠️WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!⚠️)

Quotes & Notes/ Reactions:

- Finally! A highland time traveler who’s actually SMART!

(Page. 21): “I don’t fear him. Your son is…” Well he was a strapping warrior and a rather appealing one at that. [Lol! Hahaha!]

(Page. 81): When had she eased her way into his affections so strongly? Or when hadn’t she? Aye, from the morn of their hand fast, he’d not been able to keep his hands off her.

(Page. 91): She carried his Bairn, and the agony of her disappearance had cut into him so hard that to live without her would be akin to death.

⭐️(Page. 93): Age, he desired all of her, and not for a year and a day. Forever wouldn’t be long enough. “I’ll never leave you. I give you my word.” [THE DEVOTION!!! 😭😭😭]

(Page. 121): “I love you, Anne. From the depths of my soul all I have is yours.”

⭐️(Page. 125): Love. Theirs had transcended time. [Quite literally]

This is a sweet story of love found, despite the couple being born centuries apart. There is enough real history to make it believable and the magic of the fairy flag is, simply put, a real part of Scottish history and not one I would discount. The instant attraction between the two set their tale to have a touch of a previous life connection, but this did not happen. The only bit I found a bit impulsive was that Anne's parents simply left their life. A couple of days to put measures in place to preserve their modern lives would have been wise. Although stand alone, I presume the next book in the series continues the story. I look forward to the next book.

I listened to this as an audiobook.
A time travel historical fantasy romance, Highlanders Castle was captivating and entertaining. With just the right amount of spice mixed with sweetness.

Although I enjoyed the story I did feel like Ann accepted that she’d traveled back in time a little to fast. Her immediate attraction to Alex was believable, but it felt rushed. They both agreed not to act on their attraction but in the next moment they were in bed together. I wish there would have been a little more restraint or buildup to the moment especially since she came from the future and wasn’t sure at that time if she would be able to stay.

The ending was perfect!

Can't believe I'm done reading it

I thought the romantic erotic parts of the book were on point!!! However, one could easily get bored reading the story. I had a hard time understanding exactly what was happening in the first chapter. The female lead is not a strong heroine type of character. There isn't really any moment of difficulty for her. If you are looking for a simple time travel romance story,,, then I'd recommend this book.

I wasn't sure what to think about this book going in. This was my first book by this Author. At first I was iffy about reading the whole book but the more I read the more I got invested in the storyline, the Characters. It turned into a page turner of a book. This was a great Historical Romance with a touch of magic. I certainly look forward to reading the rest of this series as well as others by this Author!!

This new-to-me author seemed to write pretty good and the proofreading wasn't too bad (like where you have to go back & re read the sentence a couple times so it makes sense) but after 70% I realized she forgot one very important thing: the story! And I had been so excited to find a new good time-travel author...😥😥😥

Highlander's Castle was interesting... The story line was very intriguing and I want to know what happens next. I kind of like that she took some of the complexities out of time travel and just told the story. After finishing it I did buy the rest of the series. The writing style wasn't my favorite but I'm not a good enough writer to say why exactly or that I could have written it better.

I listened to this as an audio book. I enjoyed it very much. Reminds me of the tv show Highlander. You have time travel and closeness of the family. Anne travels back in Time. She meets Alex and they hand fast. She is aware of the time travel bc she meets Annie. Who she is related to. Check out the book to find out what happens to Anne, Annie and Alex.

Predictable plot, cookie cutter characters, everything moved way too fast. If it weren't for the decent writing aka stringing of words together and semi historical accuracy it'd get fewer stars. The only thing I can really say it is worth the price... Free
