A deadly trial to keep his throne. A dangerous game to win his heart.

King Heroux was a famed warlord who sought to extend his Merovian lands by invading and conquering foreign kingdoms to create a vast and wealthy empire.

Until Henri killed him.

Now Henri has claimed his entire empire. The desert land of Merovia is different from anything he has ever known. The heat is punishing and the customs are strange. But more formidable than that are the people who do not want to embrace him as their new king, and the other Merovian kings who are keen to exact revenge on him for slaying one of their own.

As former regent and brother to the late King Heroux, Malik understands his people’s hatred toward the foreign king. But with a long-forgotten threat rising in the north, and the pending summit which will pitch all Merovian kings in a fight to the death to retain their kingdoms, Malik has little time to concern himself with Henri. Even if he does find him aggravatingly handsome.

When a highly coveted courtesan known as the Silk Rose is gifted to Henri in the hopes of securing an alliance, motives are questioned and loyalties are tested. But the Silk Rose has her own secrets, and she refuses to be sacrificed in this world of gods and kings.

Set in a rich Middle Eastern inspired world, Of Sand & Silk is an adult fantasy romance filled with intrigue, elemental magic, deities, plot twists, bisexual awakening, multiple POV, and MMF romance.

This is Book 1 in the Divine Tapestry series. It is linked to the Red Wood series.

Of Sand & Silk is perfect for fans of Renee Ahdieh, Anastasis Blythe, and Nisha J Tuli.

One bed? No… ONE CAMEL! 🐪

Obviously curious about this trope and look, it was actually not bad! I really like it when authors test the boundaries and do something new!

This book is filled with politics, magic, plot twists, sexual awakening and it’s very neatly wrapped up in an incredible story complete with plot AND world building!

With a bit of complex love triangle, tensions are high and as a reader I was so invested!!

Just a great well written romantasy and I’m interested to see where book two will take me!

Of Sand & Silk was filled with tension (both romantic & political...👀👀) in the absolute best way! The political drama coupled with delicious romance was really well done! I'd highly recommend for you to check out the Red Wood series as Of Sand & Silk is a spin-off! 👀

This comes after The Red Wood series and follows one of the characters in his next adventures, and wow that was captivating ! I love Middle Eastern settings so it was easy to sell me on this one. As in the first duology, the fantasy elements are pretty discreet but the ending of the book foreshadows more elemental magic use in the second book. And what an ending ! Claire loves using cliffhangers, so be warned. The pacing was a good one, not a dull moment, and the multiple POVs really bring something to the story and the character development. This is also spicier than the first duology. All in all, I can only recommend it !

THAT ENDING?! Claire when I catch you, when I catch you Claire!! This book was so fun to read. I absolutely loved watching Henri bloom and really step up into the title of king. There are so many new and interesting characters in this book and they all have secrets I am DYING TO KNOW!!! Henri and Malik had me swooning. Claire is so good at keeping you on the edge of your seat in all the best ways. I can’t wait for book two. Thank you to the author, Claire Butler for my free advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks so much to Claire Butler for sending me an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. As always all thoughts and opinions written in this review are my own.

I was hooked by the dedication. A friend of mine knew I was looking for more bisexual fantasy stories (after reading and loving the memory of souls) and she saw a post by the author and immediately forwarded it to me and I immediately signed up for the authors newsletter & got the e-arc.
For those curious:
For all the boys who grew up dreaming of the prince instead of the princess
And for anyone who dreamed of having both
This one is for you

I think you can see why I was hooked.

I will just say that I have not read the others other series which chronologically happens before this one. You can read this book without having read the first (as I have) but the ending of the first series is talked about in this book and Henri spends quite some time in this book processing all the stuff that went down in the first series. I'm now super hyped to go back and see what exactly happens and maybe understand Henri's character a bit more - I have a suspicion that I might rate this a bit higher after going back and reading that series & then re-reading this book.

This was such an interesting novel and a lot more politically centered than I initially thought it would be. A lot of time in this book is spent figuring out all the court politics and following the main characters, Henri, Malik, Ele, (and later) Tahlia, as they try to figure out each others motivations & secrets and maneuvering around, trying not to reveal their own while trying to gain leverage and power in various ways. I personally think we need more political fantasy books with a big romance component on the market.

Which brings me to the romance. I really loved seeing Henri figure out his feelings and his bisexuality. I would personally have liked to see him have a bit more time really sitting with the realization and what it means for him. I also really liked reading how both the other love interests Malik & Tahlia were both super comfortable with their own sexualities and with Henri and giving him space to figure it out and not just assuming (or demanding) either way.

I just had a really good time with this and honestly I never wanted to put this book down. Also I NEED BOOK 2 NOW!!!!! that ending my god! (I'm glad I have the other series to hold me over, might see if I can read those & then reread this before the next book comes out).

As a final note: I do think the Middle Eastern inspiration is respectfully done, The author did add a note at the start of the book talking about how she's writing a fantasy book but was inspired by places she visited in the Middle East and did was mindful not to write any offensive/harmful content. That being said, I did just have a quick look to see if there were any own-voices reviewers from the middle east to see if they had anything to say with regards to this matter and I haven't seen any yet (which is fair considering this book has been out for one whole day when I'm writing this review)- but as always I do encourage you to check out own voices reviewers.

I have always enjoyed a politically charged plot, and when it dances playfully next to romance, it is a home run for me!
The setting and characters are beautifully written, and I absolutely loved the Middle-Eastern/Arabian setting. It felt otherworldly, and I couldn't wait to pick it up daily. I am mood reader and often have many books going at the same time.....so it says something when I would reach for this book first!
The story was easy to read and to digest, while the development between they characters felt natural. I find this helps with connecting with the story itself. This has some of the best supporting characters, and I hope to dive deeper into their separate stories in the second book.
The T.E.N.S.I.O.N. between the characters had me swooning and not just from sun exposure while riding a camel.
It is a slow burn and much more than the desert will make you hot...make sure you stay hydrated and apply sunscreen while reading this spicy book!
There is a cliffhanger, and it has me gasping for breath!!!!

I will absolutely reach for the second book when this author bestows it upon us!

5 out of 5 Camels!

Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity. Like always, this review is voluntary & honest.

THIS BOOK. You guys, I LOVED this book. Beginning, middle & end, I was HOOKED. Everything about it was so intriguing, from the world & world-building, political intrigue, characters, character development & the different dynamics. I adored it ALL. Also, it had me a feral mess when it came to the romantic development & I was constantly screaming into my pillow while kicking my feet in the air. I was letting out feral pterodactyl screeches constantly.

Let's start with Henri. I loved his character & his growth when we first saw him in the Redwood Duology, however, my love for him has tremendously grown after reading this book. The way I feel like a proud mama bear after seeing this first part of his story & his new journey, his character is so easy to adore & root for. To want to protect at ALL costs. Henri is such a passionate character, who is haunted by moments of his past while discovering this new world he has be thrust into. However, I can honestly say Henri is barely given a moment to BREATHE, because he is in this state of turmoil due to the constant threats & dangers surrounding him, as well as the new emotions he is feeling. He is such a caring, just & fierce protector, who is realizing those traits of his may just lead to his downfall.

MALIK, the way this man had my knees & legs constantly trembling. His character in the beginning had me constantly guessing what his intentions were & who he was on the inside, behind the masks he showed that were free of any emotions. But when I tell you I fell hard & fast, I mean it! Malik has got his own dark past, memories that haunt & plague him & secrets he is willing to keep hidden at all costs. However, this man is also passionate to the point that you begin feeling feverish. He is wholly loyal & wholly dangerous to those he determines a threat. But his heart is golden underneath all the haunted shadows that surround it. I truly adore him & am rooting for him to the very end.

Our Silk Rose, Tahlia, we meet her later on in the book, but we quickly become enraptured by her & her story. She is a character who has her own secrets & motivations, but also a past that is mixed with its own darkness, her decisions & decisions made FOR her. She is such an intriguing FMC, who constantly keeps you guessing. Who she is underneath the persona of the infamous courtesan, the Silk Rose.

Ele, Kala, along with multiple characters we are introduced to in this new world, were all so intriguing to see again or to meet. Claire truly did an incredible job in the writing of this book & the pace in which the story developed. It was neither too slow nor too fast, it progressed perfectly & left you wanting more immediately. I also adored seeing Claire's growth in her writing & was left in awe of her author's voice in this book. This multi-POV book is filled with slow burn tension, dangerous & deadly politics, twists & turns & secrets at every turn. The spice was definitely spicing, & the MM & MMF romances left me longing for more. I 100% recommend this read! 🧡

I had such a great time reading this book!! It had everything I love; tension, politics, lies and deception, enemies to lovers dynamics, high stakes and such strong characters!

After reading the Red Wood Duology I was so excited to dive in and see where Henri's journey to Merovia took him. Henri is such a complex character, a reluctant King with a strong moral compass, a broken heart and a lot of trauma that he is carrying. He has definitely found himself in a pickle within this new country as he tries to earn the respect of his new kingdom, as well as the other Kings that rule other cities in hopes to make it out of the year alive. Along the way he definitely found his match in Malik... the tension was so good! And then of course they meet Tahlia and the chemistry was crackling!! The dynamic between the three was so fun!

Along with the romance, I really enjoyed the political manoeuvring that occurred between courts, Claire does an amazing job at building a world and lore as well as multi-faceted characters who you don't know whether to love or hate, trust or be wary of... I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

The found family in this book was also such a delight, I already loved Henri and Ele, but it was such a joy watching them build relationships with the other characters in this book and find people they feel they can trust... whether that trust is correct is yet to be seen though...

Please do yourself a favour and pick this book up! I definitely recommend reading the Red Wood duology first but it is not required!

Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC in return for an honest review.

📖: Of Sand & Silk (Divine Tapestry series Book 1)
☀️: Publication day: April 13, 2024

Of Sand & Silk is the first book in a planned duology that is linked to the Red Wood series. I wasn’t able to read this series prior to this ARC but am dying to read all the pivotal events mentioned as this book takes place following the events. I really need to meet Brielle 👀

Tropes/themes:
☀️Multiple POV
☀️Intrigue
☀️Elemental magic
☀️Deities
☀️Bisexual awakening
☀️MMF romance
☀️One 🐫
🌶️: moderate to high

"𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘶𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥.“

"𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵."

Henri is such an impressive character. The former reluctant Prince of the Northern Kingdom now finds himself in charge of a foreign land. He’s wildly charming, self-deprecating yet confident, and endeavors to redeem himself for the mistakes of his past. He refuses to remain complicit to the injustices in the kingdom and really wants to inspire positive changes, if only he’ll survive long enough to see them through!

The multi-POV gives the reader a front row seat to his gradual and steamy relationships with the MMC and FMC. I love Henri’s devoted found family- Ele must be protected at all costs!!

Set against a lush, gorgeous backdrop, we follow Henri as he navigates a foreign land and court. A deadly trial and more betrayals await him and his allies and I can’t wait to see how Claire will wrap up his story! Of Sand & Silk is a fantastic character-driven story bristling with unique relationships, dangerous court intrigue, and adventure.

Huge thanks to Claire Butler for the opportunity to read this ARC! This is my honest and voluntary review.

If you are after a fantasy read filled with angst, political intrigue, fantastic world building and all the sexual tension…then Book 1 in The Devine Tapestry series is for you. I absolutely loved it! I’ve been a bit stressed lately and this was the perfect book to get lost in and take my mind off everything.

Of Sand and Silk follows on from The Red Wood series and centres around Henri, a character who had my heart from the start.

After killing King Heroux, Henri becomes the King of the Merovian lands. An empire unlike anything he has seen before with strange customs, sand as far as the eye can see, multiple gods and unrelenting heat.

Malik is King Heroux’s brother and former regent, who shouldn’t find a foreign King handsome. But with threats to Henri’s life coming from all directions, and the gift of the courtesan the Silk Rose, Malik needs to figure out where his loyalties lie.

The Middle Eastern inspired world, plot twists, secrets, elemental magic and the key central characters make for fabulous read that I highly recommend.

Thank you to Claire Butler for providing me with an ARC

'Of Sand & Silk' is the first installment in her new series, 'The Divine Tapestry'. While it can be enjoyed on its own, I highly recommend reading the 'Red Wood' series first for a deeper understanding and richer context. The story picks up Henri's storyline, where 'To Reforge A Destiny' left off - with Henri venturing into the newfound realm he seized by defeating King Heroux, the Moravian Kingdom. Here he encounters Malik, Heroux's half-brother and former regent.

I enjoyed meeting Henri again, and witnessing Henri and Malik's relationship is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching, as they navigate the treacherous waters of politics and power while grappling with their growing attraction to each other. The addition of the stunning courtesan, the Silk Rose, adds another layer to the story, as her own secrets and motivations are gradually revealed. With the backdrop of a rich Middle Eastern-inspired world, this was just a fantastic read, and I loved how it was filled with intrigue, romance, and a sprinkle of elemental magic. What I don't love is having to wait for the next book!!! Because I need it now!

Claire does it again! Of Sand and Silk is a fast paced, spicy, fantasy romance with multiple POV. Henri’s story is continued from the Redwoods Series (which I suggest reading before this one for backstory) as he assumes his position as Kafei of a new kingdom. Along with learning the customs of his new kingdom, he must figure out who he can and can’t trust while overcoming his past trauma and undoing the atrocities of previous rulers. Henri is a really likeable character who just wants to do what’s best for those depending on him.
New characters are introduced, which bring about political scheming, a battle of wills, and many secrets.
Without giving too much away, there’s a bit of a love triangle and a bi awakening with plenty of tension! I mean, come on, there’s a one camel trope.
Claire leaves us on a cliff hanger yet again!! Can’t wait to read book 2 hopefully later this year!

ARC Review
Recommend reading Claire's Redwood Series first (To Reclaim a Kingdom & To Reforge a Destiny) the main character comes from that duology.

The storyline can certainly be followed without reading those, but they give delicious context to a couple characters and they are great stories anyway.

I really enjoyed this story and the journey Henri went on through the book. There are some magical elements, but not outright fantasy. I like that combination, it makes it easy to digest and leaves more room for the storyline. I have been left dying for another and loved that the story elements didn't feel repeated or copied from anything else I'd read lately.

I'll be keeping tabs for the next book, hope it's soon!

Warnings (sorta):
🚩Cliffhanger the height of Mount Thor in Canada. Be warned, you will beg for more all the same!
🚩Whilst you do not need to read Claire’s Red Wood series to read OSAS, this book contains many spoilers for that series. If you plan to read Red Wood, you may want to start there!

(Want to understand my rating scale? Click here to see my post on IG where I break it down!)

“It’s a fine line that exists between being the hero and the villain. Most people were both, depending on who was telling the story, because even good people could do bad things for the right reasons.”

The way this book had me in a chokehold from page ONE! I loved it so much, I crocheted a custom Camel toy in the book’s honour, which has now found a home with Claire Butler and her family and it was such a fun thing to make.

I fell in love with our main man, Henri, in the Red Wood series and was so excited for him to get his own story because my boy just needs some loooove! Claire does a wonderful job of recapping the key elements of the first series for new-to-her readers, without it becoming repetitive and tedious for anyone who did read them.

Our reluctant Prince has become a King and must travel to his new kingdom to take his throne with Ele, his 10-year-old ward and friend (and occasional spy), in tow. I loved Henri because he felt so relatable… he has a certain ‘court mask’ of confidence and charm, but underneath you begin to see the trauma and the anxiety and the sheer amount of love he has to give to the ones he cares about. He sets out to make some positive changes in his kingdom, only to be thwarted and thrust into a dangerous trial if he wants to keep his throne.

The world-building that Claire has done in this book is awe-inspiring. We have a Middle-East/South-Asian-inspired country, with intricate politics, history and traditions, a polytheistic religion, and so many little other nuances that really show how much thought Claire has put into this book. She has planted many a seed, making my mind run through all of the theories as to what they might mean.

The new characters we are introduced to are all incredibly lovable, and well-developed, nuanced people with realistic emotions, reactions, and secrets. The multi-POV we get throughout only helps to build them all up further and gives us glimpses behind the court masks they all seem to need to wield with perfection. The banter and tension is amazing, and you really get the ‘finally’ moment I think so many of us love!

I am absolutely dying for the next book in the series, Claire! Write faster! I am begging you!

This book!!! If you’ve been following me for a while you know I love a book that makes me feel “all the feels” and this one hit the mark 🥹. It’s full of passion, heart, loyalty, strength, trust, and endurance. It’s also full of hatred, distrust, heartbreak, grief, and betrayal.

Henri was a favorite character of mine in Claire’s Red Wood duology and I was so excited to find out that this new series continues his story. It’s not required that you read the Red Wood series (2 books), but I think I was hooked into Of Sand and Silk very quickly because I was already emotionally attached to Henri. His character goes through such an awesome character arc that I highly recommend you check it out. (Again, not necessary if you just want to dive into OSAS, but I recommend it 😂)

The story follows Henri as he navigates his new role as a King in a foreign land. The people are hesitant to trust and accept a foreign king, so you can imagine how hard everything gets for Henri. Along the way, he makes new allies, including a new love interest who happens to be male as well. This is new territory for Henri and the emotions and inner thoughts throughout this book feel so authentic and are so beautiful to read. Along with being beautiful and emotional, the sexual tension and spice is🔥🥵… so delicious.

I totally vibe with Claire’s writing. Her descriptions are so beautiful and easy to picture. I also loved the way I ended up feeling for multiple characters (it’s multiple POV). The political intrigue, scheming, and secrets keep you guessing and wondering. It’s a fun read. I feel like this book really has it all for such a quick, devourable read.

There are multiple scenes that are going to live rent free in my mind for the foreseeable future ♥️. If you give this one a read, feel free to slide into my DMs to send me unhinged reactions 😂.

I highly recommend this book if you enjoy:
🐫political intrigue
🐫palpable tension and moderate spice 🌶️
🐫MM and MMF relationships
🐫flirty training scenes
🐫found family
🐫sand wielding magic and deities
🐫twists and cliffhangers

I have anxiously been awaiting the release of this one and it did not disappoint. Describing this book as fantasy alone does not do it justice. This story has historical fiction vibes with epic fantasy elements such as battles, assassination attempts and strong political intrigue. This book also has a MM relationship which was portrayed so well. I had never read a book that involved two male lovers before, and this was done so respectfully and beautifully. The character arcs were fantastic and the pace of the story was quick. I found myself binge reading this book at any free chance i had.

I will love little Ele forever. That little man is fierce and strong and determined and if you kill him off Claire, i will come for you :) haha!!

That cliff hanger has me hanging friends. All the theories are spinning through my scattered mind, all those Easter eggs i had been noting along the way written on a pinboard with a thousand different threads trying to fit it all together. AND i still have no idea how to put those pieces together to figure out that ending. Claire’s writing is beautiful. The way she writes is easy to follow, yet you can tell she is an experienced author who knows how to weave secrets and cause suspicion at every turn. I have read so many wordy novels lately, but Claires way of saying so much with limited words on the page is a breath of fresh air.

I am sad that it will be a while before all my questions are answered. But i will wait ever so impatiently and fangirl with your Camels 🐪

The moment I read that this book has a Middle Eastern setting, I knew I’m gonna love this one for sure! But I do think there was some South Asian elements to this story and as someone who’s half Middle Eastern and half South Asian, in my opinion, Claire really did an incredible job with the world setting of this book. I love how she was able to understand the culture, traditions, religions and politics of Middle East/South Asia.

I love all the four main characters of this book- Malik, Henri, Tahlia and Ele and we get multiple POV of these characters throughout the story. The characters were very well written. I was able to connect to these characters, their emotions were so raw and nothing felt forced.

There was a lot of tension between characters. There was some spice going on there but it doesn’t really distract you from the rest of the storyline and Tahlia plot twist was really, reallyyyy good!

And yes, that cliffhanger ?!?! I was so disappointed that it had to end like that. 😭😭😭 Claire really knows how to leave her readers wanting more! I just can’t wait for book two to see what happens next.

I read the “note to the reader” of this book where Claire mentions about her inspiration for this setting being her vacation to Middle Eastern country. I’m extremely curious to know which country I was lol 😂.

Of Sand & Silk is a captivating journey through a richly imagined world. Claire Butler's vivid descriptions and intricate plot kept me hooked from start to finish. Henri's journey as he navigates a foreign land and assumes the role of king is both inspiring and heartbreaking. The development of his relationship with Malik is beautifully portrayed, and their connection is both tender and passionate.

I was immediately drawn to the complex relationship between Henri and Malik. Their journey of discovery and acceptance is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The author's skillful exploration of their emotional depths and the challenges they face individually and later together is stunning.

I particularly appreciated the depth of the supporting characters, especially Ele. Their stories added layers of complexity and emotion to the narrative. The world-building is exceptional, and the magic system is both intriguing and powerful.

If you're a fan of fantasy romance with strong characters and a touch of steam, I highly recommend diving into this enchanting tale. I can’t wait to see what Butler has in store for us in the next book of the series.

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

"I know. And maybe it makes me a villain, but I don't think a line exists that I would not be willing to cross for you." - Malik

"You're enough. You're more than enough." - Malik

This is the first book in new adult Divine Tapestries series, which is a spin off of the Red Wood series. This can easily be read without having read the Red Wood series, but it would spoil some of that prior series. Tropes include secrets/betrayal, political intrigue, one camel, slowburn and bisexual awakening. This is a MMF romance but most of the focus of this book is on the MM relationship.

The Lovely: I loved the lush world building of the environment - it’s unlike most fantasy novels and calls in multiple senses, which brings it to life. There is no info dumping - the background of the world is sprinkled in as the story progresses.

The Mundane: I wish there had been more of a fantasy element to the story. We don’t really see much until some magic towards the end of the book. This focuses much more in the characters and the world, and the resulting plot.

Rating: 4/5 Stars 3/5 Flames

Recommendation: I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This was an engaging read and after the cliffhanger of an ending, I’m already ready for book two. There are still numerous secrets to be uncovered (look at you T) and issues left to be resolved.

This is a multiple POV fantasy political story with a slow burn MMC romance. It is set in the same world as the author’s Red Wood series, but I went into this blind. But I am glad that I did! Henri has become king of Merovia and must navigate this new world and new political foes to secure his claim. Malik was regent to the former king… as well as his brother. The tension between them is high as they get to know each other and what they truly stand for.

The story was beautiful and kept me enraptured the whole time. I love each character’s POV and feel that it rounded out the story in a great way!

The romance was slow but it allowed each person time to grapple with the changes around them and be introspective, which I appreciate. It is subtle and lovely!

And then THE ENDING. Can you say cliffhanger??? I need to know what is going on right now!!

“Life is about choosing a side. If you don’t gamble, you can’t win. You just end up watching from the sidelines, wishing the outcome could be different.”

This was so good, the multiple POV was great and I am so interested to see where this story goes, especially the plot twist at the end!

The tension between Malik and Henri was intense and I felt like screaming at my kindle so many times but ugh it was worth it. Those scenes were hot!!!!

“Tell me how much you want me.” Henri’s voice was low and rough. “F**k, you have no idea.” “I have an idea.”

“You need to stop talking,” Malik growled as he tried to hold himself back. “Then put something in my mouth.”

Tahlia aka the silk rose is very mysterious and I can’t wait to read more about her in book two!

“My talents lie elsewhere. You should see me give head.”

“This is so fucking hot I can hardly stand it.”

Wow, firstly - never did I think that I’d enjoy a MM spice anticipation as much as this. I love the Aladdin vibes that Merovia gives off, it’s reminiscent of my childhood dreams to be Princess Jasmine! The world building you can tell will be built up in books to come in this series but this is the perfect introduction to such a world & the tribulations of King Henri and his loyal council. This was a quick and easy read for me, a slow reader so that goes to show you how I enjoyed it. I couldn’t put it down for about halfway onwards.
Claire you may not have a huge hoard of books behind you but it feels like you do, I love your writing style and I’m so privileged to have been one of your ARC readers, I’m sure this book and series is going to be widely loved!

I love Ele’s character, unspoken unwavering loyalty and warmth, and Henri’s protectiveness over those he deems close. It’s absolutely brilliant! Bring on the next one!!!!!

I really enjoyed this read! It was quite different than my other typical fantasy type books! It’s set in a more Middle Eastern setting. Following multiple POVs (four to be exact - each as fantastic as the next). I absolutely love getting multiple POVs because you just get so much more character development.. and there’s a ton to unpack in this book. I completely loved both MMCs (yes you heard that right 👀) It’s filled with dramaaaaa... Political and romantic. I spent the last few days just totally sucked into this book! The ending is a doozyyyyy though.. cliffhanger for dayssss and I CANNOT WAIT to see what happens next. She really set it up for more magic in the next in the duology. It’s available to read now on Kindle Unlimited!! 🥰🥰😍

I really enjoyed this book. Henri and Malik are everything but all of the characters introduced in this book brought something special to the story. I was left with so many unanswered questions and I can’t wait to read book 2.

Claire has set it up so that book 2 will be a wild ride filled with elemental magic, fighting to the death, answered questions, spice and so much more.

I highly recommend reading this spin off of the Red Wood Series.

OBSESSED!

This was my favorite book that I’ve read so far this year. Claire is an amazing storyteller and is such a respectful writer. I loved learning about this world and the culture. I really was attached to Henri from the Redwood series and I’m so glad that we got to see more of him here. I love his growth! The way that the relationships were handled in this book felt so authentic and meaningful. I couldn’t put this book down! I truly just enjoyed all of this so much. I can’t wait to read more.

I loved Claire’s first two books, and this one did not disappoint!! I loved getting to see a new landscape and more of the amazing world she’s crafted, and Henri remains one of my favorite characters. I can also say that Claire retains her title as the Queen of Spice 🌶️

And ps. what on earth was that ENDING????

I loved the Redwood series and Henri was one of my favourite characters, to follow his journey and see his character develop and remain true to his roots was incredible!

Malik’s character was a highlight for me, he added so much passion and spice to the story, I cannot wait to see how he develops throughout the series 😍

The tension 😏 between multiple characters had me reading this book late into the night as I needed to know what was coming next!
This tension coupled with the political twists and turns will have you hooked from the start 💘

And that ending 🤯🤯🤯 bring on book 2!!

"Of Sand & Silk" by Claire Butler is a novel that transports readers to a richly imagined world inspired by the Middle East, offering a captivating blend of fantasy and romance. Butler's narrative skill shines through as she weaves together intricate plotlines and vibrant characters against the backdrop of a vividly depicted setting. The world building is a love letter to the Middle East, which the author notes that she fell in love with during her travels.

At the heart of the story are Henri and Malik, whose complex, burgeoning relationship serves as a compelling focal point. Their budding romance unfolds amidst political intrigue, cultural tensions, and the looming threat of conflict. I adore the romance; Henri and Malik shine as a couple and I enjoy Tahlia but she's slightly side-lined in this book because she comes in quite a bit later. I also ADORED Ele and his relationship with Henri as his ward and his new-found bond with Kala. I did not get a chance to read the Redwood Duology, but I was still just as intrigued and taken with these characters. I enjoyed the nods to the previous series, but this can absolutely stand on its own.

However, while "Of Sand & Silk" excels in many aspects, it's important to acknowledge a concerning element within the narrative. While the author's good intentions are evident, there is a troubling portrayal of white saviorism in the narrative. Henri's character, as a white outsider, often takes center stage, overshadowing other characters and perpetuating problematic tropes. This issue underscores the importance of sensitivity readers in ensuring accurate and respectful representation, and it's an aspect that warrants further exploration and reflection. By acknowledging these concerns with respect and consideration, we can foster meaningful dialogue and strive for more inclusive and authentic representation in literature. I do applaud the author's note in which she gives her best intentions at the beginning. I am not part of the community that would be affected by this, but this is where a sensitivity reader would be important.

Overall, this book is a promising start to the Divine Tapestry series, and readers who enjoy fantasy romance with political intrigue and cultural depth will find much to enjoy here. It offers readers an engaging fantasy romance experience, enriched by its well-crafted characters and immersive world-building. I thank the author for the copy. This review is based on a complimentary pre-released copy and it is voluntary.

Of Sand & Silk is the first instalment in a political fantasy series. It is set in a desert kingdom and is packed full of politics and scheming as well as a slow burn MM romance (with a bit of MF romance).

The multi character POV offers great insight into the workings of the kingdom as Henri, the new conqueror and King of the land, learns its customs and tries to improve the lives of his subjects. To do this, he must work closely Malik, who is the former Regent and brother to the previous King. While Henri knows that he will be a fairer ruler than his predecessor who was known for his cruelty, he has entered a foreign land with many customs and political rivals.

The story also features Tahlia, a beautiful courtesan with hidden intentions.

The story was captivating and intriguing, and there was a lot of suspense in the interactions between characters. The romance subplot was full of longing and tension and was written so beautifully. Henri was a great main character, who was determined to improve conditions for his people and Malik went on a journey of morals and self-reflection as he decided where his allegiances lay.

The ending had a big reveal so I can't wait to continue with book 2!

Narration: Multi character, third person POV

Tropes:
- MM Romance (with some MF scenes)
- Slow burn
- Political intrigue
- Enemies to lovers / Forbidden romance
- Hidden identity
- Cliffhanger ending

Spice: 2/5
