FOR HONOR'S SAKE

When Clara became a midwife, she vowed to preserve life above all. She'll keep that vow, even if it means defying a Norman baron by hiding a Saxon slave and her child. Yet when the ruthless lord threatens Clara's village—and her life—she's forced to rely on another Norman to keep her safe.

Kenneth D'Entremont is a soldier, one who takes lives instead of healing them. Clara despairs of finding any common ground with him. But when he begins guarding her, she learns to see him in a new light. His care and compassion make her feel safe…even loved. Can she bring herself to put her secrets, and her heart, under the protection of the warrior?

A light romance set in the days of Normans and Saxons. Overall it did pretty well in catching the feel of the time period, but the faith thread was overly Protestant for the time...they want to read the Bible, then quote lengthy passages that are patently KJV (translated 500+ years later), and there was zero hint of the Catholic culture of the time. No priests or anything.

This book is the second one in the Warrior series. Although it can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the previous one first as there are some references to the story and we meet many characters from this book in the first one.

This is Kenneth and Clara's story. If you read the first book, you already know who they are. Clara has been brought to Little Dunmow to be the healer and midwife, but soon a missive arrives from Colchester letting the keep know that she is hiding something, or should I say someone.
Clara has vowed to never bring harm to anyone and refuses to give up Rowena's location, but Kenneth vowed to his lord to find out where the healer hid the slave and her child.

Obviously, while Kenneth is sent to protect Clara and find out where she hid Rowena, they both start to develop feelings for each other. But how can they both keep their promise without hurting the other one?

Just like the first one, this is a very good story. There is a bit of suspense intertwined with the history and romance and it's just the right amount. It keeps the reader reading and wondering what will happen to the characters.

I'm now looking forward to reading the last installment of this series, Rowena's story!

Ugh! This was such a good continuation of this series! I loved the first book! The second didn’t disappoint! The immediate chemistry between Kenneth and Clara was amazing! I liked how this series has mirror characters. Both side of the romance have to do similar things. In this case, they both needed to surrender their plans to God and trust Him first, then the good people around them! It ended so well and I could feel the genuine love they had for each other! Definitely recommend this whole series!

Enjoyable enough book, but it felt a bit forced. A couple of the same issues as the other book, with 11th century characters who feel very much like 21st century evangelicals, praying about who to marry and "god's will for thier life".

Nothing wrong with that, its just not how Medival people viewed the world. OK as historical fiction, and since it was the second in a series it was good to see the conclusion of some of the character's stories.

A sweet medieval story of lords and ladies and a sassy midwife/healer. Easy reading.

I enjoyed this book. It had a great message of how we can think we are doing the right thing to help someone by trusting in our own abilities and not relying on others to help us, especially God.

The second in Phinney's LoveInspired "Warriors" trilogy introduces us to a fiery midwife determined to protect a young mother and child hiding from a Norman lord. Similar to the first one, Phinney produces a well-done Christian Harlequin, tastefully romantic and filled with just the right amount of adventure and faith. Fun and satisfying, this is the perfect 'bite' in between more serious novels.

I love this time period of the Normans and Saxons ~ well, I love to read about that time, I would not have liked to have lived during it!

I loved the 1st book in this series, so was glad to finally get to this one.

The keep, the surrounding huts in the village, the dark forest, and the damp peat bog were all brought to life well in this story and I felt like I was experiencing life in England 1068.

Clara is a Saxon healer and midwife who has sworn to protect life. Kenneth a Norman soldier who has been given the task of protecting her when her life is in danger from a Norman Lord who wants to know where Clara has hidden his mistress and newborn son.

I'm not sure why but I didn't engage with the characters in this story like I did in the previous one. The story was interesting enough for me to keep reading, and the setting came alive, but while I liked it, for some reason I didn't fall in love with it. I just didn't seem to connect with Clara or Kenneth particularly well. However, that is just me, and I'm sure there will be many others who love this story.

I do still want to read the next book to find out what happens to Rowena, the maid Clara hid.

I won the book in a giveaway and I was happy about it as it has been a long time I didn´t read a Harlequin book and the opportunity to discover a new author.

It took me time to get going on the reading, the vocabulary used is totally new to me. “’’twas” not easy.

The story is very simple, all circling around a promise made between 2 women which later involves more and more people.
It was refreshing by its simplicity and easy going, not going to deep in each personality or the storyline.

I was a bit disappointed by some incoherence I couldn´t explain. All the women seemed to be very simple and religious, but still nobody has any issue with a woman and a man sleeping under the same roof with no relation between them.

it seems there is some political tensions in the background, but they are ignored during the book.

The male character was supposedly a strong warrior in charge of the place, but he comes as big softy with all the nice things he is trying to do for every body and his internal dilemmas.

The beginning was very promising, but then the plot got weaker, with no twist or big anxious moments.

Don’t get me wrong, it is an enjoyable book, easy to read and nice to pass the afternoon. I would borrow it from my library if it was there, but I won’t buy it.

A lovely little read, a wonderful inspirational medieval romance, a beautiful story about stubbornness and pride and turning all of that over to God and learning to trust in Him to bring you help and fight your battles. I enjoyed reading the continuation of Adrien and Ediva's story while meeting new and equally wonderful characters in Kenneth and Clara! I loved little Brindi and am looking forward to reading the next story about Rowena and her baby!! I really enjoyed this sweet novella!

A midwife/healer who gave her word to protect others finds herself causing more trouble than good when she hides a runaway slave and baby from a cruel Norman lord.

Every now and again, I like to venture into this time period, as it reminds me of my favorite Robin Hood stories. The tensions between the Saxons and Normans was shown perfectly, and I liked the details of the story.

Overall, this was a fun read and I enjoyed it.

An enjoyable book about a time period most authors don't cover. I was a little confused but some things in this book. Had a nice solid ending but it was a little too drawn out. Overall I nice story with a good theme of putting out trust in God and other people to help up.
