Mr. Aster: Billionaires Club Book 8

Rate this book
I don't believe in love at first sight. But hate at first sight? That I have experience with . . .

Sebastian Aster is a sexy billionaire with a dark, tragic past. He’s also a grumpy, alpha jerk.

It doesn't matter that he's here to help save my parents' winery. Or that making an enemy of him would be bad for my career as a gossip columnist. I can't stand him.

Which is why I suggested the charity bachelor auction. I knew he'd hate it, and I wanted to knock his ego down a peg.

Fake dating wasn't part of the plan. It just sort of . . . happened. But the joke's on me, because the more time I spend with him, the more I realize I misjudged him. Beneath his cold exterior, he's sexy, passionate, and caring. I could fall for him so easily. Too easily.

Because now, I know that my time with the elusive Mr. Aster will either end in happily ever after, or utter devastation—and I'm afraid that devastation seems far more likely . . .

Contains mature themes.

CW/TW: death/grief of a spouse, victim blaming, mental trauma

Rich Single dad Widower MMC. Journalist FMC w parents owning Winery. Both very frustrating characters. Miscommunication, or lack of any communication, goes hard. If you're expecting a single dad romance, this isn't really one. This was an interesting single dad trope because I did like him having a shift in his feelings for her, but kind of hated . But his grief about her was very real. This did have angst and banter but, I found this extremely boring and found myself stepping away from it constantly.

There's an authors note stating there supposed to be a bonus something for them out there, not sure when or where its found, but their story totally felt unfinished as is. Just sucks that it would be separate.

Interconnected to book 1 Jake/Ashley, book 2 Jim/Avery, book 3 Collin, book 4 Alex/Bree, book 6 Spencer/Natalia, book 7 John/Mickey. Having listened to the series, I am one to enjoy the friend group interconnected characters popping up. I wonder if there will be a new series for The Hawk Family with Titus, Colton, and Wyatt.

Audiobook narrators: Laurie West, Christian Black
Dual POV, First Person
Tropes: Fake Relationship, Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity
Notable Microtropes: Bachelor Auction, Miscommunication,
Spice: 1.5/5 (Personal Scale) - 3 Open door scenes however many of them short in length, many closed door and fade to black mentions as well. Explicit sexual language used. Vanilla monogamous sexual acts. No kinks.
Spicy Chapters:

Listened at 1.75-2x speed. It was so boring I had to speed it up.
First time listening to both narrators. Christian Black was very boring to listen to. He has an okay MMC voice but has no expression and lacks range in other character voices, including a girl voice, and I would get lost when other characters are talking to him.
Laurie West was great! She had great sass and expression in her performance. She has an okay male voice and has range for other character voices.

Slow Burn

This one was a really slow start for me I just couldn't get into it until about 40%. I loved their bickering but it just wasn't enough to draw me in like the other books

Seb and Darcy

Can you say book hangover? I love/hate when these books end.

Sebastian has been groomed his whole life to run and take over the Aster dynasty. Note here- if you haven’t read any of the other books, you don’t have to, BUT you should because they are all amazing. If you have read, you know his brothers carved their own paths and wanted nothing to do with the family dynamics. But Seb not only didn’t mind the family business, he craved it. Work was his life. But over the last year, Seb has had a darkness take over him and he cannot find his way out. It has not gone unnoticed. Now..his parents. How do I describe them? They are awful human beings. The wealthiest of the wealthy, they look down upon everyone and treat them as garbage, and so on. Well daddy dearest is tired of Seb’s actions and is sending him to their next project. The Aster’s and the Marshall’s (yes, we see some old friends) have gone in business with a small winery on the west coast and Seb is not at all happy about this, much less having to go there. But his father spoke, and off he goes. Upon arrival, nothing is up to Seb’s standards and he starts barking orders from the start..the Aster way.

Darcy makes a living off the entitled. She writes articles about the elite billionaires in a lifestyle magazine. So full disclosure, her parents own a vineyard and yes, she lives there but she likes to take care of herself. Now her parents..are go with the flow, hippies and Darcy tends to have similar traits.
She does want more for her life but for now, she’s happy. Well, she was, until she walks in her home and The Sebastian Aster is barking orders.

Seb and Darcy hate each other from the start. Seb cannot fathom why he is at this winery, as it is a crap hole to him. Darcy is so sick of the alpha, rich, arrogant, entitled attitude and doesn’t agree with him changing their home. They agree on nothing. But the saying goes, a thin line between love and hate. When the two are forced to spend more time together, they learn there is another side. Their chemistry and banter are Fire.

I love this whole series and so glad we get to see many of the friends appear. There is also exciting news but you will have to read the book to find out.

What can you say about Sébastien Archer he's Rich,Intitled a Snob and a Jerk but behind every jerk there's a story to why there the most unlikable person could it be his parents old money upercrust vile snobs well let's just say the apple didn't fall far from that tree or is his current dark mood to do with the death of his wife another old money person who may have not been the most pleasant person it's a little bit of everything so when Seb's father says jump he says how hi so he's been exhiled to California Wine Country to get himself together and to save a winery that his father has invested in and boy dose he hate it all the nouvo rich upstarts the hippy wine owners and there loud opionated daughter Darcy let's not get him started on her but as they spend more time together he realizes he likes rieling her up she's put life back into him. Darcy is allot like her parents she doesn't really care about money or billionairs she may have to write about them for the lifestyle magazine she writes for but she would never date one ahem and she has the perfect revenge for the intitled Devil that's just decended on her family but it may have backfired on her now there fake dating and getting way more cozy with each other but can they make a real relationship last or will nasty family and too much work make Sébastien a dull boy and a idiot.

This author was a first time read for me I liked all the background characters and the new guys the Hawk Brothers that Titus sounds like he would make and interesting story. This was and enemies to Lovers slow burn romance with some hillerous moments between Darcy and Sébastien she didn't take any crap from him the only thing that I didn't like was how this book ended and Darcy could have made poor Sébastien gravel more.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via HiddenGems and this is my honest review.

The Eldest Aster Brother Finds Love

Sebastian Aster is the eldest brother and did his best to manage the family’s empire, as well as try to corral his younger brothers when they started to stray. His story starts off sad, as he loses his wife and is left with a toddler with whom he has no relationship. After a year of mourning, his father sends him to the west coast to manage the rejuvenation of a winery they have invested in with the Mitchell company. He throws himself into the project, being his east-coast snobby self and insulting the owner family and their gorgeous daughter, Darcy. It’s all complications from that point on, with the unexpected path of love between enemies. Raylin once again develops the characters and their choices with thrills and heartbreaking events. Sadly, the story ends before we have a full view of their future, with the promise of an extended epilogue to come. Love her books and am totally spoiled for the typical 300 pg romance that floods the market.

Mr Aster Billionaires Club

Loved the characters and storyline ,witty ,romantic comedy, even with a the dark emotions and clashes with high society and the people who prefer tacos!! Even Grasshoppers and Charlotte Aster😂
Meet Mr Aster the fourth in line to take over the Aster Empire as his brothers have now completely gone different paths, during the period his late wife Melissa died tragedy passed it was a dark time for Sebastian until his father demands he oversees a business venture and emerging with Mitchell and Associates on a winery that was nearly going under. He meets the Daughter Darcel Brooks or Darcy to her friends .

Meet Darcy Brooks billionaires columnist for a magazine company and writes pieces and her next assignment involves the Aster Family and even her friends had runnin with Margot Aster this assignment was going to be a nightmare. So one evening after being invited to the Mitchell's yacht Darcy gives a idea to Jim Mitchell on how to raise funds 😂

Sebastian & Darcy

I have enjoyed every book from this series. I loved the dynamics of Seb and Darcy’s love story. He came to take over the winery that belonged to her parents and was a mean and grumpy man. Your typical billionaire pain in the ass. She is a gossip columnist who writes about those same stuck up billionaires. They start hating each other until fates turn and a trip to Mexico kicks off a romance that leads to love.

Darcy teaches Seb the finer highlights of living life without being spoiled by the finer things that money brings. She helps him to cope with the hurt of his past and to fall in love with life. Loved their grumpy banter and enjoyed seeing the rest of the billionaires club crew come together again. I love those guys and the girls 😂.

Great story a can’t wait to read the short story to see where they end up.

Worst MMC I’ve ever read

Ok, where should I start this? It’s a long ass book, slow burn and all. The MMC? Terrible human being. Terrible dad, horrible person, horrible husband. The whole book is just a long excuse to some guy that was born into a wealthy family that looks at people like they’re beneath him and has no relationship whatsoever who’s his 2 years old daughter. However, the FMC is accepting this behaviour and goes with him on a holiday and falls in love with his grumpy ass? Please. It’s fictional but can we not excuse toxic people just because they’re the CEO of multiple companies and it’s ok for them to ghost their significant other for 8 months? Also, which 3 years old speaks like that?? The whole books feels like an afterthought, bare research done into it.

I received an ARC copy of this book via Hidden Gems, and I'm willingly leaving an honest review.
Yet another fantastic book in the Billionaires Club series, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Sebastian Aster and Darcy Burke's story.....
Still grieving the loss of his wife, Sebastian was living an unfulfilling life and losing precious time watching his young daughter grow up!
Darcy bought a light into the darkness of Sebastian's life, and slowly, he began to see what he was missing.
Wonderful storyline with great characters and loved the HEA!!

“For you, I would risk everything a thousand times over.”

Loved the banter the witty arguments and the utter displeasure they brought towards each other. I truly enjoy an enemies to lovers that has me cracking up. Such an entertaining read. I was so disappointed with Mr. Aster for his decision and even though I knew it needed to happen for him to heal and finally move on. It was horrible for he did it, especially as he had promised he wouldn't. I received a free copy of this book, and I voluntarily reviewed it.

Raylin Marks doesn't disappoint. This storyline has so many different tropes intertwined- enemy to lovers, second chance, fake relationship, old money guy falling for the normal girl . We also see all our favorite character from the Billionaire Club series.
This is a definitely a book you need to read. Part of a series but it can be read as a standalone and has its own unique storyline.
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy.

Sebastian and Darcy’s love story is so amazing! 😭❤️ Their story was wrote so beautifully that it made the whole entire story so emotionally packed. I plan on reading the other books in the series because it was so good!

Sebastian pushes Darcy away due to the loss of his wife and trauma he has experienced and Darcy continues forward with her own life despite being heartbroken. When they finally meet again, it was so beautiful! Raylin Marks is such an awesome writer!

This book hasn't made it to audible yet. So, I read it :)...I've listened to all the other Mr. books and this one did not disappoint! This may have been my favorite or a close second. I love how Raylin Marks has written all these books and kept the "Mr" family of Mr's engaged with each other. I will have to say I wanted to see Charolette more involved sooner, but she was super cute. I can't wait to read more about Darcy & Sebastian's life together. I want to read about their HEA. OH yes....I will be listening to the audible version to!!

4.5 rating. I really enjoyed this book! Up there with my faves in this series, Mr. Mitchell and Mr, Grayson.
Raylen Marks is one of my favorite romance authors. She didn’t disappoint with this one! I really like just about everything about this story, but didn’t give it a 5 star rating because I wanted Darcy to make Seb work harder for the second chance. Otherwise a great , fun read!

each story line is truly unique

Each of the books makes you feel part of the story like living in their world from rags to riches, sad to happy & developing new friendships. The books/audio’s are fun to reread & listen to over & over which at times catches some forgotten bits in the story.

Loved it!!

Absolutely loved this book. Darcy and Seb’s story was one I couldn’t put down. The billionaire business man and the gossip columnist. Most of this series was the same. Amazing from the start. There was so much love, passion and humour that made you read until the very last page. One of the best series I ever read.

Sebastian is sent to a winery to turn the business around. Having lost his wife, he's in an emotional slump. Darcy, a reporter, is the daughter of the winery. It starts out as a war of minds and ends with a merging of hearts. A decent read.

I absolutely love great dialogue and the banter between Darcy and Seb was fantastic!

I really enjoyed the slow burn!

This book is beefy and worth every minute!

Also, this is my first story by this author and that makes me really happy! I have more, more, more to read and within this series too!

I am now addicted! I have to read all the "Billionaires' Club Series" books!

The story of Sebastian & Darcy has been told time & time again. What makes this a unique telling is how in depth the characters & their experiences are woven into the story. Boy & girl meet. They dislike each other DEEPLY. Things change. One hurts the other, blah, blah. They react differently than the usual enemy to lover scenario. The supporting characters tie it all together. Darcy & Sebastian have to overcome society's beliefs and some of their own. Stopping family cycles, healing, and growing together.

I gave up after chapter 9

I normally enjoy this author, but both main characters were so smug, arrogant and lacking depth, I didn’t care enough to keep reading. Even the ancillary characters were entirely one dimensional. I’m annoyed, not interested.

Sparks fly!

I have to say, I've found the female heroines in the last two books in this series a bit tedious at times. They both seem to be cut from the same cloth - boring, immature, entitled and extremely rude whilst thinking they're far cleverer than they actually are. They don't seem to have a graceful or kind word to say for too many people and often think that being bitchy is attractive. I really couldn't see at first how Darcy with some of her overgrown schoolgirlish traits would have attracted the grieving and sophisticated Sebastian, even though he saw her as a challenge. That was my reaction very much to Darcy in the early sections of this book.
Women in the two books didn't ring true for me quite often and certainly didn't match up to the complex, interesting females in the previous six books in the series. Darcy's constant rudeness to Sebastian really grated on me. However, she did grow on me as she overcame some of her immature traits and became more empathetic and less judgemental so I liked her better than Mickie. I really liked Sebastian a lot, he was a believable complex character and the book did improve as I read more. So I gave the book 4 stars in the end and managed to enjoy the later parts of this tale. It was still a compelling story though and I raced through it.

I really enjoyed the book. It was funny, witty, and romantic. I enjoyed reading about Seb and Darcy. I loved Darcy's sass and Seb's stoicism. There was a realistic quality to the writing and storyline. It just seemed like a more mature relationship. I would read more from Raylin.
