So slow! The action didn't start until 80% through the book! This book had good bones but the vast majority of the time it's stuck in the main character's head and he's also really spineless.

There are a few major plot holes as well. At the beginning of the story, we are told that the reason he has to leave his first bonded woman behind is that they can communicate at any distance. However, at the end of the story, we are told that they only have a limited range. So what's the point of the academy holding one of his women hostage?

The magic system is pretty lame. I think the author was going for an avatar martial arts vibe, but it came off slow and boring. The invention of the gun would soon render this magic dancing obsolete.

I ended up skipping pages of monologue (no seriously, just endless amounts of monologue) to try and find the good bits.

To Pansy

The main character is too much of a pansy he's a wimp allowing some academy and some cult to tell him who he can love and who he can be with I mean I understand the author this is the way he's writing but come on Not just you're a coward you have no spying if you love someone you don't let anyone get in the way of seeing them or never being with them. Screw the rest of the world. I mean if that's your cup of tea you know tea you know tea then go for it but I don't recommend this book when I read a book I want a strong main character who doesn't take crap from anyone who just does what he wants And if he saves the world and that's on him You know from His love

Sooo slow

Such a slow start. World building was so confusing. I'm not sure where the author was going, but i can get past a quarter of the book.

I genuinely enjoyed this one. I read a lot of the criticisms before I started but I can honestly say that I believe they mostly stem from improper tagging. I can't speak to the rest of this series, but this book specifically is absolutely 80% slice-of-life, but it isn't tagged as such or mentioned in the spiel. I believe that would head off a lot of the negative comments since they're mostly about the pacing.

(Edit: If it feels like something's missing here...it is. I've removed a chunk because as I've progressed through the series, I understand how the link between Ryn and Saphi was supposed to work. Ultimately it's not the gaping plot hole I originally thought it was, just poorly explained in this book with contradictory phrasing and terminology.)

Otherwise this is genuinely enjoyable, with fun characters, an interesting world and a semi-unique magic system involving manual mana (ether) collection and martial-arts-esque casting. Admittedly it's a little clunky, and I struggle to picture how it'll work in the thick of battle, but I'm looking forward to reading more. While I've been burned by too many series' that start off incredibly strong and fall off after a book or two to truly get my hopes up, I'm genuinely hopeful for this one and looking forward to more.

An awesome beginning!!!!

I like the slow realistic growth of the MC and his family!!! A unique power structure for mages and the familiarity of magic helped to guide the story well!! I can't wait to read what comes next!!!

I was excited to have the opportunity to read a review ARC of Primal Conjurer after enjoying Rogan's other books How I Met My Hot Alien Girlfriend. The book follows Ryn as he steps into his role as Primal Conjurer by bonding his auxiliaries and mastering his magic. Rogan once again writes a kind and perceptive MC, which is my personal favorite type of hero.

Primal Conjurer is an enjoyable harem story; Each of Ryn's auxiliaries feel distinct and Ryn's relationship with each of his auxiliaries have their own character. I'm particularly a fan of the banter between Ryn and Lena. I would recommend Primal Conjurer to anyone looking for their next harem read.

Tedious, slow-paced light porn with everyone just too frightfully nice for their own good. Oh gosh after you! No after you milord. Was hoping it would be more like the kestrel series. Well the first one.

A fantastic new Series!

This book is fantastic, I love the author other series, and when I saw this book, I was very excited. The characters are wonderful, and the world is cool. The pacing is also fantastic.

However (spoilers)

I don't know if it's just me, but there are some major contradicting plot points. First, it is stated that the MC's first Auxiliary needs to say at the academy so he can always be in contact with her to update them from their mental link from anywhere he's currently adventuring... but then it is stated MULTIPLE TIMES that the link has a distance limit (that's not very big). This is a major contradiction to a main conflict. How is she supposed to maintain the mental link with him when he out adventuring when per the book the link doesn't work over distance...It makes it so she's being forced to stay away from him for no reason..

Another smaller contradiction that goes in line with that is that when she's abducted it specifically says they removed her collar and threw it and then later she has it again and they state it is her collar and that they're very rare. Granted they could have given her another but it reads as it hers. This goes with the first issue about the range of the mental link because they were talking mentally and got cut off because she went out of range.

All in all, the book is fantastic, and the only reason I'm voicing these concerns here is that it's a major plot point that is being contradicted. I don't know if I missing some info or the author made a mistake but I read all these parts multiple times and they read like how I describe them so at the very least the Author might want to reword some of these so the reader has better comprehension.

Definitely looking forward to the next book though!

Good story line with interesting new take on how magic works. But way to slow to develop. Seemed like 40% of the content was the MC internal thoughts on romance. Via classical psychology this approach would appeal to female readers. Its so well done that the authors presented gender comes into question. Finally as to the magic element itself. Spell casting (forms) are " precise and complex dance like move's " IE completing a spell takes several seconds, one gets the impression that it is 3-5 seconds. Yet none of the none casters use ranged weapons or techniques (such a throwing knives) that would give them a significant advantage in reaction time and often/usually prevent the caster from ever getting the spell off. As a combat vet I can say the a 1 or 2 second advantage can be the eternity between life and death.

I'd been looking forward to this one for a long time. The genre needs more non-isekai/non-litrpg.

Meh. Unfortunately this one didn't work for me.

It started off strong. But after the first time skip (which was jarringly annoying itself), it almost feels like a different book. Shifting goal-posts when it comes to what it would take to openly be with Saphi, an outright retcon that undermines the entire way the bond works and why Saphi has to stay behind, and then an obtusely shoe-horned sex scene that is only necessary because the author seemingly forgot that Saphi isn't even wearing her ether blocker...

Really disappointing. It feels like multiple books stitched together, or multiple random drafts stapled together. Not sure I'll be coming back to this one.

EDIT: After checking into it more, I found an explanation from the author about the plot-hole/retcons, so that's fair enough.

Better than expected

Alternate universe, magic, cultivation, save the realm, harem adult situations

Ryn is a rare mage who can use any type of magic; his diversity begins to show as specialists advance further than him due to their exclusive focus. He wins Sophi through kindness, and Lena through dance. A great deal of character and world building, but it works. Once he graduates, he could make Auri another because he'd no longer be a student, and she has to remain at the academy in any event. And curious if he could bond Ashlee as well, as the telepathy could be useful. Lena is literally a firecracker. LOL!

Excellent editing. Well written and engaging. Enjoyed.

Primal Conjurer

I normally give ratings only, but occasionally a book is good enough to make me write some response.

This book was one that the prime illustration turned me off. I am glad I didn’t rely on that illustration for my choice.

This book by Mr. Rogan caught my attention immediately and kept it throughout. Its concept and main character was somewhat new to me, regardless of the numerous fantasy books I’ve downloaded over the past 3 years. It is well written and edited and if there is a sequel, I’ll be sure and read it. Well done.

Good story, but…

Mr. Rogan can spin a fine tale, no question. And while I enjoyed this story, there were some glaring continuity mistakes, plenty of editing issues, and some seriously shaky logic. It’s unfortunate that these authors don’t have someone who can just read through the book once and pick out all the “oops”. (Maybe not the logic. That’s a “writer thing”)

That said, I’ll read the next one, of course. Don’t be silly.

Primal Sleeper

I made 28% into the book and got tired of trying to find it interesting enough to want to read more, but I just can't.
The Primal Conjurer is so sick nice and the Anointed one he's to have sex with is so over the top shy and subservient that its just sleepy!

Quit after a day

Haven’t enjoyed a book this much in a while

For not a whole lot happening in this book, (don’t mean that negatively at all) I enjoyed every minute of it. The MC and the relationships with his women seem so genuine and real. The setting and potential for this series is amazing. Can’t wait to read more!

A surprise find

Well written and paced story. The magic system of this world is unique. There are a few inconsistencies with some of the rules. Will have to see how the author addresses those.

Slow burn that ends in an inferno!

The start of this book was slow, but interesting. Exploring the growth of relationships between characters, and diving into a deep world that’s wonderfully built is always a joy to read.

Oh the fun of a primal mage!

I enjoyed this delve into what it means to be a primal mage! This book has plenty of action and sets up the story for what the mage will be doing in the future books. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Excellent story

A different take on a harem. Slow to develop with plenty of action, the progression is well developed. Could have more sex, more detail, it is after all a harem story.

So Refreshingly Different!

A mage university!
Who would have ever thought of that?
As well as being something new to me, I am very appreciative to the effort that went into making the numerous characters come vividly alive.

This is a really strong start to the series, the relationships between the characters are well developed, the world is interesting and a little bit unique, and the learning of magic in the academy is relatively engaging. Plus once the plot gets going things just get better.
