Created from darkness and light, I face each day determined not to repeat history. My DNA is equal parts Satan and Saint. I will not allow another woman to suffer at the hands of my family.
So why am I irrevocably drawn to her?
This strong, determined angel deserves so much more than she’s been given. The very last person she should open her heart to…
Isme.
But I can’t fight the feeling, that no matter how risky this is, she’s mine.
Jillian
My life is a fusion of sun and storm. But I’ve learned you have to take the good with the bad.
But that doesn’t mean I have to keep inviting it in.
We’ve been through enough. The very last person I need in my life…
Is him.
But despite the secrets, the heart wants what it wants.

This story was so easy to get lost in - I loved the characters and the plot and could not put it down! This is truly a beautiful story full of love and loss and angst also some very funny moments. There is also a sense of suspense that really kept me interested. I will definitely be reading the next book.
Luca and Jillian meet at a hospital (super romantic meet cute right??) They have instant connection…but both of them are carrying around past wounds and trauma. Jillian is a widow caring for her kids and Luca has moved to the US with his sister and nephew. Neither are looking for a relationship…but the heart wants what the heart wants….
I loved Luca from chapter 1! He was protective and caring and swoon worthy. He is a very talented artist (he is a metal worker) and I loved his relationship with his family and also the relationships he develops with Jillian’s kids. He is a total cinnamon roll.
Jillian is so strong and smart and loving. She has had to step up and take care of her family. My heart broke for her. I did love the nicknames and sweet moments throughout this story too.
✨What to Expect: 🥀 Mafia/crime family 🇮🇹 One 🌶️ Italian 💋 Single Mom 🇮🇹 Some red 🔥 translations 🔥 Overprotective Hero 🇮🇹 Angsty romance based on real life circumstance 💚 Found family 🇮🇹 Some ridiculous side characters
LM Fox took two people who have had such stressful family dynamic situations and tragic pasts, and wrote an absolutely beautiful story.
I was hooked from the very beginning and didn’t want to put this book down. The angst and suspense were addicting for me.
You have Jillian, a single mama with 3 gorgeous kiddos (I adore all of the kid characters), who works her bootie off as an ER nurse. She has walls built up so high after the loss of her husband. And how she has gotten through all of this on her own was mesmerizing to me- she is a strong female character who I have so much love & respect for. A great mama, a great daughter and sister, a wonderful friend, as well as a hard working ER nurse.
And then there is our MMC, Luca aka-Luke! He has come to live in the USA after leaving the crime family he was born into. Trying to run away from his father and all that surrounds his family- he brings his sister, brother and nephew (I love his little nephew so much). He works hard, love the business he runs and the creativity of his art. He is so protective of those he loves and he would never hurt a fly. Though he is made out to be a bad guy at times.
When Luca and Jillian meet- it’s like an instant connection that they cannot fight, even though they both know they should stay away from each other.
The way their story evolves is seriously so beautiful. The trials throughout their time together is very “sit on the edge of your seat” emotional.
I love the nicknames, the times spent with kids, the way Luca puts his all into this family and just everything! Get up and run to grab this book! I can’t recommend it enough!
Some Tropes: 🖤 Nurse FMC 🔪 Touch Her & ☠️ 🖤 Found Family 🔪 Instant Connection
The Characters:
Jillian is a single mom of 3, a full time nurse, and basically a superhuman. She was a young widow learning to navigate life after her husband passed away.
Luca was an artistic, talented entrepreneur who moved to the states in an attempt to escape his family. He takes care of his sister and nephew and tries his hardest to keep a low profile.
My Opinion:
I was absolutely enthralled by this book. It grabbed my attention from the beginning and the story just kept on giving!
I think the storyline of both characters as individuals and together was great. I loved their stories of who they are now and why and I loved the story of them coming together. A++.
I cannot wait to see LM Fox has in store for us with this series because if they next books are as good as this one, I’m going to be VERY happy 😂🩷
DNF @21% I really tried to like this book but it was soooooo bad. Tik tok really did me dirty once again. Like this book is supposed to be dark mafia, but I see absolutely no darkness or mafia elements whatsoever. The main character Luca went in to the hospital and that first had me confused bc if he’s in the mafia why didn’t he just use the family doctor?? Honestly I was able to look past that but then we find out that the MMC works a normal job??? Like why is this categorized as mafia and being dark when that is literally nonexistent. I honestly thought when Luca met Jillian he was going to become obsessed and possessed, but he didn’t. And he was even calling other nurses and women pretty and beautiful. Like WHAT. That honestly was annoying me. And then Luca, who is a total stranger to Jillian out of the blue offers to pick up her kid from daycare AND SHE LETS HIM??? Like what. Honestly this book was so bad and long and for what? Avoid.
"Do not let the behaviour of others destroy your inner peace." Reaching for my phone, I scroll to my notes app. "Who said that, oh wise one?" "The Dalai Lama. Life's too short, Luca. You can't be so focused on protecting those you love that you forget about living."
A light mafia romance and single mam with brilliant kids. This book is a good starter for those who want to start their mafia romance journey then work up to the dark side! Now Luca & his family are on the run from their own Italian Crime Family to start a new life from the darkness that comes with their name. Sister Luna scarred, Matteo wants revenge, and Luca wants to new life with his family...no spoilers
Luca is a VERY talented with metal. He designs beautiful pieces and we get to see business jobs and his colourful members that will make you laugh 🤣 straight off the page you know he is a good man and we see all that through his actions & words.
Jillian is a nurse & single mam, and they are recovering from a past that haunts their dreams especially her and her oldest daughter Myla. Myla has her own little journey and I got very teary eyed! Kids finally found a dad that's loves them and will take on the world for them. She is the most down to earth person ever!! She does a few small prays to God to please help her out when things get tough. And he did in the form on Luca's St. Michael medallion that drop from his meck in the appoitment. St. Michael protected all their loves onesand guided them back together when dangerous challenge came their way...no spoilers 🙏
"I may have been born into a nightmare, but mow...I'm living a fairytale life."
Can not wait to return back into this world and Matteo is next. We got some teases about his past and the choices he made for his loved ones. I love the brother bound that Luca & Matteo share and they both faced their demons. Luca got his "normal life" and hope Matteo and their sister Luna finds their normal life they all wished for & their mam wished for them
Another incredible read by L.M. Fox! This book kept me interested from the start and I stayed absolutely enthralled through it. Both main characters had their own story and together both of their stories were great.
Jillian’s character was amazing. She didn’t let her tragic past take over her life. She worked so hard and overcame it and was the best mother she could be for her 3 children. She knew her worth and I loved that.
For being covered in tattoos, Luca was definitely a swoon worthy, cinnamon roll MMC. All he wants to do is protect and care for everyone around him. The way he was just there for her kids had me melting (that father daughter dance flyer moment with Myla… 🥹).
And also, let’s not forget Luca’s dirty mouth and what the way he spoke Italian .. 🥵 MY GOSH!
There are some heavier topics in this book, but L.M. Fox handles them with such care. The suspense kept me intrigued and I’m looking forward to the next Bianchi Brothers book!
Thank you @authorlmfox & @hambrightpr for this ARC copy 💚
Luca is definitely a looker and the cover model was the perfect choice. Loved this story the attention to detail is on point as always with a LM Fox book. Hard Hat Hottie is another great one too.
First, the nicknames were so adorable I just wanted to squeeze these kids. Nemo and Scar, Tarzan and Tartanuga.
When Luca and Jillian collide at the local hospital, it seems like fate. She finds his necklace, and they run into each other at the well loved pizza place. And they seemed to have a flame burning from their first encounter.
Seeing Luca’s admiration for Jillian’s children, and that this man did not hesitate to babysit her toddler whenever she needed help is just another attribute to this sexy tatted cinnamon roll hero that is hard not to love.
This book shows us love, betrayal, tragedy, family, and lust all in one. And the added elements of speaking a different language added the sexy in the right way!
This is book one of L.M. Fox’s new series, told in dual first person POV and leaves you with a HEA.
Luca was definitely the smexy cinnamon roll who fell first and fell hard. I loved that he was drawn to Jillian from the start. I loved that not only was he swept away by Jillian’s personality and strength, but he was swept away by her children as well and bonded with all of them from the start. He was a protective man, but he was also very sweet and caring when it came to his sister, nephew, Jillian and her three children.
I loved Jillian. I loved that she had a tragic past, instead of letting it take her over, she overcame it, worked hard and was the best mother she could be to her children. I loved that she knew her worth, what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to say or do anything to keep her from getting her man.
The drama and suspense wasn’t quite as much as I expected, but I definitely didn’t expect that ending. I can’t say I was disappointed by it though. I’m excited to see where this series goes and what events take place next. I was provided an advanced readers copy. I used my KU to snag the bonus epilogue (Which i absolutely loved). These thoughts and opinions are my own.
Luca meets Jillian in the ER when she helps him. He isn't looking for a relationship, but the attraction is immediate and mutual. The problem is his past. What a terrific story. Jillian, a working mother of three, struggles, and we see what a wonderful woman she is. Luca is an artist with a complicated back story, but what a man, caring, loving, strong and selfless. This book is full of real life problems, and incidental humour, but the relationship between the protagonists is also very real. It is a romance, though, and the loving is not and magical. My first by this author, and unlikely to be the last!
The vibes were just here for this book! I absolutely freaking loved Luca, Jillian and all the kids. First, the nicknames were so adorable I just wanted to squeeze these kids. Nemo and Scar, Tarzan and Tartanuga, I was giggly over nicknames and I don’t even care.
But seriously, Luca is just a precious man. He wants to protect and care for those around him, even if that means putting his happiness to the side. I loved how much he truly cared for her kids, and was always there to help.
The suspense kept me intrigued, and I still am intrigued to know what happens with his brother. I loved that they got the hea all together. This truly was an adorable, emotional story 🫶🏼
tropes - found family, mafia/crime family, cinnamon roll hero, single mom
This book is dangerous! I devoured it, staying up WAY too late to read it because I just couldn’t put it down!!
The pull between Luca and Jillian is undeniable from the beginning, even when Luca admits that he shouldn’t be with her because it’s dangerous they can’t stay away from each other.
He becomes important not only to Jillian but also to her kids and I love how he brings them out of their shell too. It does move kinda fast like something is always happening and there’s never a lull in the story, and I think that’s part of what contributed to my binge reading lol
This is a single mom, mafia vibes romance that was SO good!
Luca Bianchi , I was not expecting this man to be .. this man!! Luca Bianchi is elite and top tier and I'm completely smitten and in love with! Jillian a single mom to 3 who is trying to coming out of a difficult time in her life and enter Luca. And oh boy what a way they meet. This book was so refreshing and I loved it. The angst in this book is just that I have no words it kept me on the edge and it made it even more amazing. The cameos in this made me squeal with joy!! Can't wait for the rest of the series!
Ooh, I think this just became my favourite L.M. Fox story.
I love a good single mom book (I know the struggles, and I like to think one of these HEA's could happen to me too), throw in a hot Italian man 🥵 umm, YES PLEASE!
Jillian and Luca have this instant attraction when their meet cute happens in the ER that Jillian works in and even though they know they shouldn't try to take things further, they just can't stay away from each other
Luca is a very overprotective man due to everything that he and his siblings have been through whereas Jillian is an independent woman struggling to juggle work and motherhood since becoming widowed. But they turn out to be exactly what the pther needs and are absolutely perfect for each other!
Luca may be the son of a mafia Don, but it's not an over-the-top mafia story, which I think works really well.
The angst and tension is fantastic and I didn't want to stop reading it.
Oh, and don't get me started on the nicknames he has for her and her kids... its the cutest thing.
I can't wait for Matteo's story. I feel like it going rip my heart out 🩷
This page turner captured my attention from the first paragraph. Luca and Jillian had me all emotional. Love the characters and storyline. The kids stole my heart. I enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend reading it. I look forward to reading more from the author.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book is the perfect toe dip into mafia books. It is like Mafia Light. Luca flees a dangerous lifestyle with his brother and sister, and Jillian is working through her own heartbreak. I loved Jillian and Luca together, there is so much angst, and I love it. This book is spicy and sweet, I loved it and cannot wait for the next book!
Yet another book devoured, Luca is definitely a hottie and the cover model was definitely the perfect choice. Loved this story the attention to detail is on point as always with a LM Fox book. I like how you never know how or where the story is going to take you, there's a lot of twists and turns in this one but it comes together nicely, and you even get a smooth talking Italian. Loved it can't wait for the next Bianchi brother.
Instant connection! From the moment the fmc and mic met, there was instant fire. This story was so beautiful and tragic. Both characters are struggling from current / past events but the ending made is so worth it.
Was ok although I don’t really know of many mums who would leave their young children with a complete stranger they had only just met and doesn’t even know his full name 🤷🏻♀️
ARC REVIEW . . . LUCA by LM Fox Series: The Bianchi Brothers (Book 1) Format: E-book Star Rating: 4/5 ⭐️ Spice: 2/5 🔥 Genre: Mafia Romance Tropes: Mafia/Crime Family, Found family, Single Mom, Protective Cinnamon Roll MMC, Suspense, Second Chance, Slow burn *Please check CWs
This was 4 stars for me because I felt the plot development was a bit slow to build for my preferences. This isn’t always the fault of an author and simply a symptom of my impatience as an ADHD mood reader. Once I got to the 45-50% mark I was rolling.
Single mom Jillian, an ER nurse of 3 children, meets Luca during a shift working in the ER. These two have plenty of emotional baggage and their current circumstances make any relationship unlikely. Despite secrets, tragic pasts and danger lurking in the shadows they can’t seem to stay away from each other.
While I enjoyed Jillian and Luca’s story, I have to say Luca’s relationship with Jillian’s kids was my favorite. They had so much to overcome as well and their side stories with Luca were so sweet and endearing!
LM Fox is a new-to-me author and Luca is book 1 her new Bianchi Brothers series. Each book in this series of interconnected stand-alones is available in paperback and e-book. Luca is currently available in Kindle Unlimited. Book 2 of the series, The Hunter, is scheduled to release March of 2025.
I received this ARC for an honest review. Thanks again to The Author Agency for the opportunity.
Luca de L.M. Fox, is the first book in The Bianchi Brothers Series, in this story we will meet Luca Bianchi who is trying to start over, he along with his brother Matteo, his sister Antonia and his nephew Mimmo, arrive in the United States fleeing from the dangers that their previous life represents, now established, try to survive the tragedy that touched their lives. Assuming new identities to try to get away from that past Luca lives with his sister and nephew and his priority is their safety. He also works as an iron artist, making quality and beautiful pieces for different hotels and restaurants, but one day he is in a hospital emergency room with a small indigestion problem and it's there where he sees this woman who leaves him breathless. She is not only beautiful, but she is very intelligent and soon finds out what Luca has, and although he is completely captivated by her he knows that he must stay away because of the dangers that surround him. Jillian Geller is a single mother of a twelve-year-old daughter, Myla, a 5-year-old son, Caleb, and a one-and-a-half-year-old baby, Truitt, which has her hands full. She works as a nurse and her mother is the one who help her with the kids. Since the loss of her husband, she has struggled with the consequences of that tragedy and tries to move forward in the best possible way, and although she has no time for relationships, once she meets Luca she cannot stop thinking about him and when fate seems to make them coincide she finds herself imagining that something could happen between them. But, although their attraction is strong, Luca is afraid of putting Jillian and her children in danger, only that when they spend time together he will not be able to fight with the feelings that this woman evokes in him, he will only have to be honest and hope that when the danger finally catches up with them Jillian will be willing to trust him and allow him to do whatever it takes to keep them safe. This story is wonderful, with drama, angst, danger, a little action and also with a lot of laughter, tenderness, passion and love. Characters that captivate you from the moment you meet them and for which you end up betting and completely falling in love with them. A story where you can enjoy the characters from other series and which you cannot miss, I already want to know what will happen to that other character who is so tormented, so I will be patiently waiting for the next book in this series. Completely Highly Recommended! *Thanks to L.M. Fox for my ARC. I voluntarily leave my honest review*

Completamente Altamente Recomendada! *Gracias a L.M. Fox por mi ARC. Dejo voluntariamente mi reseña honesta*
Had to DNF at 41%…it was just boring and not at all what the TikTok reviews said. I expected to get a rough metal working mafia man but…he’s just a nice friendly man. Story was too slow and still so fast. Not my beer
This book was somewhat good until the end. The ending ruins the story. The plot line had potential but also had a lot of holes. The love between Luca and the kids was phenomenal and well done but the rest was not there.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25 Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Jillian is a mom and a single mother of three and an ER nurse. Luca is a metal worker trying keep his family safe from ties back in Italy which could have deadly consequences. A trip to the ER wasn’t on his agenda, but when the beautiful nurse smelling like blueberries entered his room, there was no where else he’d rather be. This story sucked me in from the ‘meet-cute’ to the epilogue. The tension was palpable. Luca is quite the sexy Italian, but more than that, he is kind, caring, considerate, and protective. His attraction to Jillian is distinct, but forbidden. He can’t be with anyone, even this sexy single mother, without risking their lives. No. It’s best he stay far away from her. But he just can’t fight the pull.
Jillian never expected a typical day on the job to change the trajectory of her life, but I guess that’s what happens when you care for a sexy Italian man with compassion and kindness. Her husband died two years ago and it has impacted her children in a negative way. She hasn’t been ready to be with anyone since then, between her three children and her job, there is no time. Luca though, has been on her mind since he was in the ER. Jillian has something of his that she needs to return, unfortunately, she has no way to find him, which is for the best. Until the powers that be put them in each other’s path again.
This is a slow burn story with lots of tension and longing, desire and forbidden love. There is great respect there as well. A threat looms over them, no matter how cautious they are, eventually reaching and destroying any false hope they had to be together. The chemistry between Jillian and Luca is *chef’s kiss.* I loved seeing the two of them fight, and ultimately cave to the “f**k it” moment! More than that, I enjoyed the interactions with her kids and his nephew. It was like they were meant to be in each other’s lives. Jillian’s children are each delayed in their own way because of what happened with her husband, but Luca’s impact on them…shocking!
I don’t want to reveal too much because this is a story you should experience for yourself. I really enjoyed it and the characters. And let me tell you, I would love to hang out with Jillian’s mom and her bridge club sometime, I bet it would be a blast! LM Fox, mentions Twin festival in Twinsburg, Ohio…I have former students who are twins that would go to that each year, and win! There were a lot of fun mentions, and I need some of those mugs! A huge thank you to LM Fox and HambrightPR for this ARC. I think everyone needs Luca and Jillian’s story!

ok the plot was semi there but even thats a stretch.
jillian is a single mom of three working as an er nurse and luca comes in as a patient with appendicitis. she gets him taken care of, lets him leave the hospital without being discharged to pick up his nephew, and then he gets back in time before shes caught, so naturally shes obsessed with him, and he has it hot for her. she lowk steals his necklace that he leaves behind in the hospital by accident, and then isn’t able to get it back to him, but they bump into each other like a week later, and suddenly they think everything is clicking into place. luca helps jillian with her youngest kid when he gets pink eye and she has to stay at work, he starts showing up for her and her kids, his nephew gets along with jillian’s oldest son, blah blah blah. but they both have dark pasts ofc; jillian’s husband shot himself in their home in the middle of the night when jillian was 5 months pregnant with their youngest, and she found him dead and then their daughter walked in and saw, so now her daughter is mute, and the baby has some developmental delays that jillian thinks might be associated with the trauma and the stress she endured. and luca is the son of this crime boss in italy and he escaped with his sister who had been kidnapped, her son, and one of his brothers, and they all had to change their names and start over in virginia. luca is all “we can’t be together because its dangerous, but i can’t resist you” and gets close to jillian and her kids, and then boom he gets arrested on jillian’s birthday and she crashes out when she watches it happen on the news, but plot twist luca was set up. so he gets out of jail and is like i can’t put jillian and the kids in harms way but im gunna stalk them every night to make sure theyre ok. then luca’s brother and sister show up and explain everything to jillian, so she forgives luca and then they play house for maybe a day before someone shows up at the neighbors house presumably looking for luca and he gets mauled by the neighbors dogs, so luca goes into panic mode and calls his cousin to set up a plan to get them all to safety, and then the surgeon who helped luca with the appendicitis shows up and is like yall can move to jamaica and work at my resort, AND THEY GO ALONG WITH IT. so they all move to jamaica and live their best lives there and everyone is healed and they get married.
this book was kinda ridiculous. all the characters pissed me off, they tried so hard to be quirky but it just didn’t work. and the insta love in this situation is so concerning??? jillian get your ass back to therapy and go consistently. the ending was what really threw me off, it was like they were thrown a random solution and immediately went along with the happy ending, but it just didn’t work.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
★★. I thought this was a mafia book or like a man hiding from the mafia so he’d be like dark and tough? He was the most immature man ever? I swear it’s like he was a teenager with how he spoke and acted. Jillian on the other hand, my god. This woman put her kids in so much danger and didn’t even care? You mean to tell me you allowed some random man to pick up your son at daycare, babysit your children and leave them alone with him without even knowing him?!
The inner monologues I couldn’t handle. There was too much over describing of pointless things. Some words here and there, I cringed. Luca’s whole “I can’t be with you” yet still sleeping together was annoying as fuck. Jillian’s whole “my kids are going to be hurt” yet allowing him back constantly because you got some dick is wild. You uprooted their lives and changed their identities when their lives were threatened which is absolutely insane when all could’ve been solved if you I don’t know, thought with your head and not your pu$$y.
The third act was dumb as hell. No, notes.
The whole narrative of the dead husband was gross. Jillian maybe said ten good things about him and then it was all how he was never around when he was home. How his mind wasn’t there. How he was all fun with the kids and not reprimanding them. How only Skype calls was their communication for so long. How their sex was all just seeking pleasure and that’s it. And then she tells Luca he killed himself and Luca calls him SELFISH. I hate that narrative that a person with depression or ptsd (the husband was in the army) is selfish by taking their own lives and how this was pushed. It is not a selfish act. To them, it’s the only way to find relief and be happy. Jillian going to therapy was good, but happened way too late in the book.
The whole daughter not speaking was so sad because of what she witnessed. I do feel bad for the kids the most. In a fit of rage because of Luca, Jillian throws away the husband’s shirt that her son slept in and then he gets Lucas shirt and all is well. It’s incredibly weird. They replaced the dad when it’s mentioned how the daughter was such a daddy’s girl. I didn’t like it at all. Yes, she was a good mother. Yes, she was there for them. But how for the love of god can anyone read this woman putting her needs above her children’s when even Luca said it wasn’t safe and her inner monologue was “they were tucked away in their bed safe” WHAT IF SOMEONE BROKE IN? YOU HAVE PEOPLE AFTER YOU?
The two stars are for Matteo. I just want his book and I thought there would be a lot of crumbs. There was some. I will be reading his book and I pray it’s nothing like this.
For my safety people; safe. Luca’s been celibate for a while. Jillian’s been celibate since her last child.
4.5 ***** In this heartwarming and emotionally charged novel, we are introduced to Jillian, a single mother of three adorable children, who works tirelessly as an ER nurse. Her strength and resilience, especially after the loss of her husband, make her a character to admire and root for. Jillian's dedication to her children, her career, and her family is nothing short of inspiring.
On the other side of the story is Luca, also known as Luke, who has fled to the USA to escape the clutches of the crime family he was born into. Bringing his sister, brother, and nephew along, Luca seeks to start anew, far from the shadows of his past. His protective nature and unwavering love for his family are evident in every action he takes. Despite the occasional portrayal as a "bad guy," Luca's true character shines through, revealing a man of depth and integrity.
The connection between Jillian and Luca is instant and undeniable, despite their initial attempts to keep their distance. Their evolving relationship is a beautiful tapestry of emotions, trials, and triumphs, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The nicknames, the moments spent with the kids, and Luca's dedication to his newfound family are highlights that add warmth and depth to the story.
Jillian's character is a testament to the strength of single mothers everywhere. Her journey from a young widow to a pillar of strength for her children is both heartwrenching and uplifting. Luca, with his artistic talents and entrepreneurial spirit, brings a unique blend of creativity and resilience to the narrative.
The book is a perfect blend of light mafia romance and the challenges of single parenthood, making it an ideal starter for those looking to explore the genre. Luca and his family's escape from their Italian Crime Family and their quest for a new life away from the darkness that haunts them add an intriguing layer to the story.
The novel's themes of family, redemption, and the pursuit of a normal life resonate deeply. Luca's declaration of living a fairytale life after being born into a nightmare encapsulates the essence of the story. The brotherly bond between Luca and Matteo, and their shared demons, set the stage for Matteo's story, which promises to be equally compelling.
In conclusion, this book is a must-read for anyone who loves a good romance with depth, humor, and heart. The characters are relatable, the story is engaging, and the themes are universal. Whether you're a fan of mafia romances or single parenthood narratives, this book offers a rich and rewarding reading experience.
I absolutely loved Luca, such an easy read full of passion and flirty banter with a super caring cinnamon roll tattooed god of a lead character who spoke dirty in Italian and then backed it up in his actions. Just yes, please!
So while the book has a kind of mafia tie to it, it's essentially not mafia. Luca, the main character, is the son of a big crime lord back in Italy. Not wanting to be a part of that life, Luca fled to America with his siblings and nephew to start fresh because his relatives back home were not good people. Luca is a good guy and does all he can to avoid any involvement with his family's criminal actions, however, he knows they are going to come after him because they see his behaviour as disrespect. So when he meets an amazing ER nurse called Jillian, with whom he has an instant zing, he tries to keep away and fails massively because the attraction and the chemistry are just there in spades, and despite fears on both sides, they can't avoid their feelings, and it was great to see how easily they fit together and worked.
Jillian has her own past trauma, which is touched on in the book, and so she's rightly cautious about letting a man into her life again, especially as she has three children: Myla, who doesn't speak due to trauma; Caleb, who is a whirlwind of a five-year-old; and then baby Truitt, who seems to have a few development delays as he doesn't speak or walk. The kids were great characters in their own right, bringing a mix of humour and emotion, but it was easy to see why Jillian was so protective of them, but she needn't have worried as Luca fit in brilliantly with them and they all loved him. Honestly, I don't think there is anything that man can't do—he cooks, takes care of kids, is great in bed, makes fantastic metal sculptures, and is protective, caring, and hot. Tick, tick, tick.
It's a brilliantly paced book, and their relationship as a couple and as a family progresses really well, and I enjoyed seeing how they grew together. It's not all smiles and laughter though; there is a bit of a hiccup in their relationship, and I have to admit I got a bit weepy over it. I'm not sure if that was a case of hormones or disappointment that my new book boyfriend might not be as wonderful as I hoped. I needn't have worried because, despite some angsty moments, not just from the main characters but from sideline characters like the kids too, we get a very welcome happy ending that I loved.
Created from darkness and light, I face each day determined not to repeat history. My DNA is equal parts Satan and Saint. I will not allow another woman to suffer at the hands of my family. So why am I irrevocably drawn to her? This strong, determined angel deserves so much more than she’s been given. The very last person she should open her heart to… Is me.
But I can’t fight the feeling, that no matter how risky this is, she’s mine.

My life is a fusion of sun and storm. But I’ve learned you have to take the good with the bad. But that doesn’t mean I have to keep inviting it in. We’ve been through enough. The very last person I need in my life… Is him. But despite the secrets, the heart wants what it wants. And it wants Luca.
Review: For Layla's first dabble in Mafia romance, it's bloody brilliant. Its the perfect blend of contemporary romance, meets mafia with a happily ever after. The character back stories for this book was perfect, the way Layla carefully navigated the trauma some of the characters endured, and showing their recovery process, was beautiful.
Luca is a spicy Italian welder who wants nothing to do with the Mafia ties of his family. Hiding away in Hanover Virginia, he doesn't expect to run into the beautiful Jillian and be smitten with her from first sight. Will the pull towards Jillian be enough to endure the danger that he brings with him or will he continue living a life of solitude?
Jillian is a widower and single mom to three children, while working full time as a nurse. While still grieving her husband's kids, Jillian doesn't expect Luca to enter her life and bring happiness like she hasn't experienced before. But happiness comes at a price, and is Jillian willing to pay that price, especially when her children are involved.
I see the words "cinnamon roll" to describe so many heroes. So many that I think the term has almost lost its meaning. Then there's Luca, fresh from the mind of Author Fox, who crafted him as a man who just wants to help his remaining family put the past behind them. He's got the world on his shoulders, and he's constantly looking behind him for trouble. And I realize now that THIS is a true cinnamon roll hero!
When Luca and Jillian collide at the local hospital, it seems like fate. She finds his necklace, and they run into each other at the well loved pizza place. I loved how intellectually deep Luca seems right off the bat.
"As usual, my thoughts try to distract me. I remember something Luigi shared when I told him of my monthly ritual with Antonia. A crowded mind leaves no space for a peaceful heart, he’d said. He’d later shared it was from the poet, Christine Evangelou, and I quickly ordered several of her books. He’s always throwing quotes at me that make me pause in reflection. I started to think I’d need to keep a pencil with me whenever he was near, but now just jot them down in my phone for later."
I also loved that while Luca came from an Italian mafia family, he was a talented iron maker. He came from Italy with his sister and nephew and created a profitable business. And as he got to know Jillian and her children, he let the kids work in his workroom on gifts for their mom.
The story how Jillian and the children lost their Dad was heartbreaking. Jillian worked so hard making a life with kids that were traumatized in their own way. Myla! The way Luca took charge with being her friend and a male figure was amazing. And I laughed every time I read Caleb call out "Nemo!"
The story was wonderful and I'm very happy that the "evil parts" didn't outweigh the core of the story, which for me was a single mom finding happiness again. I learned so many Italian phrases, which was fabulous. Author Fox has a cheat sheet, but I wish she had it in the beginning, not the end. Do you all realize how many authors don't add a cheat sheet? Im ending this with my favorite quote:
“FEAR has two meanings: ‘Forget Everything and Run’ Or ‘Face Everything and Rise.’ The choice is yours.”- Zig Ziglar
