Everyone is ecstatic when a pro windsurfing competition comes to the posh enclave of SeaBreeze Island, Florida. Maud Baxter, the owner of Sand Puppies bookstore, is looking forward to a weekend of tourists and all the dollars they will spend. Unfortunately, the windsurfing competition is marred when the top windsurfer goes missing. Turns out, she's been murdered. Maud and the local sheriff find her body in the dunes on the island.
Maud’s desperate to find the killer and bring them to justice because, frankly, having an outstanding murder is bad for the tourist trade. She enlists the help of her monthly reading club, The SeaBreeze Island Murder Club, to do what the authorities cannot do…track down the killer.
If you want a fun, safe, cozy mystery set in a beautiful setting with great characters, you’ve come to the right place. Death in the Wind will keep you guessing who the killer is, but it won’t make you have nightmares at night.
Death in the Wind is the first book in a new series, The SeaBreeze Island Murder Club. Get this book today and prepare to be entertained.
Please This book was published in 2022 as The Case of the Winsome Windsurfer. The novel as it's published now is exactly the same. So, if you bought this back in 2022, you already own it!
This book is a spin-off of Julia lives in a van and Maud and Annette feature in this new serie. It is nice, fun and light read. I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the next book in the serie.
Death In The Wind is book one in the A SeaBreeze Island Murder Club by C. Richards. Maud Baxter, owner of Sand Puppies bookstore on SeaBreeze Island, Florida, looks forward to the influx of tourists during the upcoming pro-windsurfing competition. However, things did not work out the way she wanted due to her and the Sheriff finding the body of one of the competitors. For Maud Baxter, the most important thing is to find the answer to the murder, and she asked her book club for help. The readers of Death In The Wind will follow Maud Baxter and her friends to discover what happens.
Death in the Wind is an enjoyable, cozy mystery to read on a wet day. It is the first book I have read by C. Richards, and I will read another by this author. I engaged with the story from the first page and continued to the end. I love C. Richards's portrayal of his characters and their interactions. Death In The Wind is well-written and researched. I also like C. Richards's description of the settings, which complement the book's plot.
Death in the Wind teaches readers about being a pro-windsurfer and participating in Windsurfing competitions. I recommend this book.
The story line was cute. A mother and daughter who run a bookstore in the Florida panhandle also host a monthly mystery book club. The ladies are getting bored with reading the murder mysteries, find fault with various things in the books (they watch too much CSI and think they know what real life detectives do) and wish they could solve a REAL murder.
Be careful what you wish for! No sooner than they wish that, the first murder in her 20 years in the community happens.
While there are some humorous lines and incidents (I did laugh out loud once), the people just didn't seem real. Much of the time people didn't "say" they "yelled" or "shouted" at one another. The entire book seemed to be noisy! Who lives like that?
There were some clever lines in the book. I like the repetitive when she'd go into her home she'd drop her keys in the antique bowl on the antique table. Two favorites were: "It wasn’t lost on her that she was horribly out of shape. It also wasn’t lost on her that getting in shape, or just into better shape, might be a somewhat herculean task" and "It was apparent Sylvia spent a fair amount of time in the gym, in front of her dressing mirror, and probably at her plastic surgeons...."
I know this is for ages 12-18 and I liked that part - no foul language, no gratuitous sex, nothing that might cause nightmares - but the yelling (can't people just speak to one another?) made me give this book only 3 stars. If people could speak civilly, I'm sure it rates a 4.
I doubt I will read more of this series.
The author did offer a free ebook from a different series at the end of the book. I will read that an hopefully, the volume of character's discussion will tone down.
I really enjoyed getting to know Maud and her friends better. I’ll admit I’ve only read the first in the Julia Lives in a Van series so far, but I borrowed the second in that series and started reading it while reading this. (I was happy to see Maud and Annette were in that second book.) I knew this was a spin-off but thought it’d be fun to read in the book where this character was (probably) first mentioned. I definitely plan to finish that book and hopefully get back to the Julia series. And I know I’ll read more in this one! It’s great that Maud got a series of her own, she cracks me up! She and her daughter make an awesome team.
I loved how Maud gathered up her suspects at the end. I think even the DA might’ve been impressed. And even a request from her nemesis to be friends? I definitely need to read that next book. They seemed to get along pretty well in this one and made me laugh thinking of TV’s Reba and Barbara Jean and how they liked bickering but were sorta frenemies lol.
This book totally impressed me. The characters and the story lines. Wow. I thought at one point they had it all figured out. But then came the twists and turns. Very mysterious twists and turns. I truly enjoyed this book and now I must keep going. Time for the next book. This is a Good Author and I recommend reading this book.
Okay setting, okay bookstore and single mom making good angle, poor supporting characters unless you want to believe all permanent citizens in this town are old and cranky, trite writing and plot. Really not worth the effort to read. Maud needs to be a lot more interesting. Her character needs to grow and develop more.
A well written story set in a beach town. Follow Maud Baxter, her daughter Annette, her ex-husband's widow Krysteen along with the rest of the Murder Club as they help Sheriff Arnie solve the murder of one the windsurfing contestants. Story keeps you wondering who committed the murder.
I want to join the Seabreeze Island Myrder Club. I love to read and fall into the right age group and am just catty enough to enjoy Maud's remarks and would also like to own one of Princess's kittens. Read this book and you can join too.
I love cozy mysteries. This one was so fun! I loved how Maude owned her own bookstore with her daughter, they had a mystery book club, and the book club was able to help solve a local murder. It was also cute how Maude's cat had kittens!

Very entertaining, good start to a series I now intend to read. Well written. Teaching lesson: Never underestimate little old ladies in large groups :)
Cute cozy mystery club book. Pacing was a little slow, then pretty rushed the last few chapters. Overall an ok time and would read more in the series. 3.5 ⭐️
A fun cozy mystery. I like the characters as they have some interesting relationships. There’s quite a bit of love hate back and forth going on. Maud and Krysteen definitely have a unique relyand a crazy history. One thing that’s a bit different is the sheriff actually welcomes and asks for Mauds help. The murder Club reminds me of the one in Aurora Teegarden series but much more haphazard. They all seem like bored retired ladies with nothing else to do. I look forward to reading the next book in the series
