Phoenix Immortal is a story about how a man who cannot die but has lost all reason to live finds it again. It’s also the story about how a server who works the night shift at a diner discovers understanding and intimacy when he’d never imagined that he would. It’s a tale about fire and love, fate and forging your own path.
Midsummer Phoenixes explores the calmer sides of this epic love, the things that happened between all the major events in the main storyline.
These short stories follow Amory and Soyer past the endings of Moonlight Cherries and Black Heart Blooming. We are thrust deeper into the supernatural world beneath and meet new people and old acquaintances both in the Moonlight Diner and elsewhere.
These stories are more slice-of-life and lighthearted, but we all know Soyer kills people on occasion. Proceed at your own risk.
Alexa Piper writes steamy romance that ranges from light to dark, from straight to queer. She’s also a coffee addict. Alexa loves writing stories that make her readers laugh and fall in love with the characters in them. It's so wonderful spending time with Soyer and Amory again. These little sneak peeks into moments they share were such great additions to the series and many made me smile. Especially Soyer meeting Tate. Why do I feel like he and Amory could be friends?
I was surprised that we even got a short from Dwayne's POV! I loved that little insight into his character. And you could tell just how much he cares for his employees, especially Amory.
One story took me a bit to figure out what was going on. I was so confused. But then once you catch on it turns out to be a fun story. Ahh the amazing minds of authors!!
And don't get me started on the art! They were all so awesome even on my black and white kindle! It was cool seeing the pair drawn in different artist styles. For fans of this series this collection of shorts is a must have.
Told through various POV's, we get to see little moments that really round out the romance between the pair and show just how in love they are with each other. Soyer especially, since he thinks of little else but Amory and it's just the sweetest.
Loved the introduction to Tate and hope we can see more of him later. Also, what is the writer up to? Soyer suggests there is more to him than his useless crush on Amory.
Elias is one of my favorite characters in the series, so it was great that he got a fair amount of page time, including a story of his past before he was a vampire.
This has to be read after at least one of the main books and though it doesn't advance any overarching plot, it does add something special to the series, so I wouldn't skip it.
The art inside it was lovely! The glossary of types at the end was useful too.
Sweet glimpses back at one of my favourite couples
I love getting to see little snippets of my favourite couples having their HEA. It’s heartwarming in a different way to the HEA itself. Amory and Soyer were so sweet together. Soyer especially has an innocence to his love for Amory that doesn’t necessarily match his outward personality but also makes so much sense given what he’s been through. It’s so special to see those moments where he’s able to just revel in loving Amory, making him happy and feeling Amory’s love in return. You will need to read the preceding books because most of this won’t make sense without them but if you loved Amory and Soyer then this is going to be a special little treat. The only problem is now I want more!
If you enjoyed reading Moonlight Cherries and Black Heart Blooming then you are in for a treat, all your favorite characters with some new ones. Most of all you get to read more about the behind the scenes characters and know their point of view. This isn't just about Soyer (Black Shuck) and Amory it's about different ones that involve the main characters. I'm so glad we get closer look at Dwayne, Ben, Elias and the Writer those were some of my favorites in the books. Also is it just me or do you also look at the words and say Armory give Elias his chocolate shake, lol This is enjoyable and quick read.
This was a great collection of short stories giving us a better look of what the day to day of these characters lives are like. We got to see Amory first getting introduced to Rae, along with Rae having a Pride dance party in the diner, moments where Soyer is planning surprises for Amory, and we got to see Soyer pretending to be a human. I thought these shorts were great, I finished this collection within an hour and enjoyed reading them. I liked how we got glimpses of what these characters's lives are like outside of the main story.
Midsummer Phoenixes is best read after reading the Phoenix Immortal series because it is a group of short stories that show little snipits of the characters. We are back with Soyer and Amory. I loved seeing these little snipits of life with these two. I love how Alexa Piper brings the characters to life. I loved the art also. This was a quick read that was very satisfying. I look forward to more stories with Soyer and Amory. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
This are all little slice of life shorts from the lives of Amory and Soyer. They happen all throughout the action of the books and are just little scenes or snapshots of their “normal” days. There is also some gorgeous artwork in here of these two who have easily become one of my favorite fictional couples out there. If you like this series and these characters, you need to check this volume out.
We get to check in with Soyer and Amory at different points in their relationship. Some even include a different perspective of something we've read previously. They were all very entertaining to read.
Midsummer Phoenixes is an excellent collection of short stories that happen in and around the first two Phoenix Immortal books. Sometimes it shows a different character's point of view during a scene we've already read, like when Dwayne officially meets Soyer for the first time. Some of the stories contain characters we haven't seen before. I laughed so much when Soyer had to interact repeatedly with a moody teenage girl. And we even got to see more about the infamous writer who comes to the diner every night.
While most of the stories are light-hearted, we also get enough of Soyer's perspective to really feel the weight of profound boredom and loneliness that rests on an immortal. The light and life that Amory brought into his existence is moving.
Don´t bother if you haven´t read the series because it won´t make any sense, but if you read and loved this pair I think you will enjoy this book a lot. Nothing big happens here, we don´t have big announcements, there´s no killing, no burning no shocking discoveries... We have a lot of normal between people, the stuff we live day in day out, but in Amory and Soyer`s lifes. I loved this two, so these momments are a wonderful and quite fluffy read. Knowing how they each see each other and themselves, the more intimate sight is lovely.
It’s lovely to spend time with Soyer and Amory and co., and these stories delve into moments that feel both small and monumental in their own ways. These snippets of the lives of the characters are a delight, and best enjoyed after first reading the Phoenix Immortal series, for context on the world and characters at the heart of this collection.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This collection of short stories from the Moonlight Diner world can not be read as a standalone. So you have to go read the three stories set in our favorite diner to appreciate these yummy pie slices of Amory and Soyer's world. Most are from either Amory's or Soyer's POV, but there's one that is just perfection. Each slice makes the Moonlight world more lush. I love the bakery story as well as the school story, letting Soyer become much more a whole person for Amory.
I love Amory and Soyer so much. But I can't say they're my favorite couple but I have so many couples of Alexa Piper's characters that I love just as much. However, I love reading about them. I can never get enough of them. And I want more! Keep them coming, Alexa!
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS (ART) AND SIMPLY LOVE THE STORIES!
It was so fantastic to be back with Amory and Soyer! These shorts are just so spectacular, I loved to see these phenomenal characters and great stories. Just made me so freaking happy!!
