Mine was gold, diamond encrusted, and held in place by household staff.
With a trust fund I’d never be able to blow through, I didn’t need to work a day in my life. I sure as hell didn’t need the kind of job I had.
But I wasn’t in it for the money. It was for personal satisfaction. A love of a job well done. What’s that saying about never working a day in your life if you love breaking fingers and burying bodies where they’ll never be found?
I might be paraphrasing, but it was still the truth.
My boss’ wife called me a goon—and she wasn’t wrong. As second-in-command, I did whatever needed to keep Black Resorts running smoothly. That often included the aforementioned violence since Vegas wasn’t short on people who deserved it.
The rarity was those who deserved protection.
Like Mila.
Liar. Thief. And my little ray of pessimistic sunshine.
Her spoon wasn’t silver. Hell, it wasn’t even a spoon. It was a plastic spork that she hustled and fought for, and she’d always done it alone.
But that changed the second she nearly passed out in my arms.
She called me a behemoth.
I wanted her to call me Daddy.
An age-gap romance about finding acceptance, mutual obsession, and a behemoth with a giant… heart. CAN BE READ AS A STANDALONE. This story features a heroine in need of some TLC and a gooey cinna-Dom-roll Daddy who is up for the challenge.
Growing up, Layla Frost used to hide under her blanket with a flashlight to read the Sweet Valley High books she pilfered from her older sister. It wasn’t long before she was reading hidden Harlequins during class at school. This snowballed into pulling all-nighters after the promise of “just one more chapter”.
Her love of reading, especially the romance genre, took root early and has grown immeasurably until it was time to write her own stories.
When she's not writing, Layla Frost is an insomniac with a deep love of iced coffee, tchotchkes, plants, and her hens. She's also the world's okayest mom, but her kids think she's cool... ish.
I have been waiting for this book since I finished Little Dove!
Ash and Mila meet in a not cute way when he catches her stealing in the hotel he works at and wants her to give it back. He already wants to protect her when he feeds her he sees she needs someone to watch over her, but before that can happen, she runs away. Poor Mila girl has been straved, working jobs since she was 15 years old. Being robbed by her bitch mother who doesn't desever a daughter like Mila.
I was happy Mila stood up to her mom and demand her money back but things turn bad when Mila was at the wrong place wrong time being injured and almost killed. She runs back to the hotel and ask for Ash and now that she's back in his hands Ash isn't letting her go.
The relationship is slowish he wants to build there trust since Mila doesn't trust easy and she has put up that wall many times between them. But once that daddy name is tossed in we see them navigate that. And I loved it. They had another kink which was rope play and man it was delicious!! We do have some drama beside the mother it's vegas so we have our fair share of drama.
We get our old couples back. Hehe, I love Juliet and Mila together with great female friendship
No ow/om drama, no cheating, Slight secondary character, Drama, sexy times, virgin gal and no manwhore

TROPES: ~SLOW burn ~strangers to friends to lovers ~age gap ~call me daddy
Let me start off by saying, Little Dove (book 1 in the series) is my favorite book. EVER. I've reread it so many times. But this book? I've been waiting for months for it to be released... and I was very disappointed by it. It read like it was written by someone young with not many writing skills, and I HATE to say that. But this is what reviews are for!
I won't be summarizing the plot for this one, like I usually do. I'll just tell you my thoughts. There is NO sexual chemistry between Mila and Ash. None at all. And with a slow burn like this, you'll expect to see LOTS of chemistry between the h/H to build up to when they finally get together. The heroine is 20 years old but acts like a 12 year old. Attitude problems to the extreme. There's WAY too much push & pull. Even the daddy thing doesn't make an appearance until after 50% in the book, and 70% for actual sex to happen.
Anyways, this was a huge disappointment to me. I expected book 2 to be better than book 1, and it's sad to say Little Sunshine was my most disliked book so far this year.
SAFETY: Ages: 20h, 32H Virgin/celibate: virgin heroine, celibate for a few months hero OM/OW drama: none Cheating/sharing: none Triggers: attempted SA (not by H), physical assault, neglectful parent Kinks: bdsm, daddy kink, good girl/praise, hand necklaces, primal (one chase scene), rough sex, somno, spanking HEA?: yes.
Mila and Ash are not only fire together, they are nuclear!
Within the first few pages I knew this was going to be good. But holy heck I never expected it to totally consume me. I read this late into the night, while drinking my coffee in the morning, and had it in my hand every free moment of the day. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it. I loved that this had a quick pace and a slow burn. Especially when I realized I hadn't been aware of the slow burn at all until the end.
I'm a fan of this author and it's why I gave this book a try since it has a theme that isn't really for me. I think that is the highest compliment I can give an author if I would normally pass up the book, but don't, because I have that much confidence in the author's voice. And it pays off.
Ash is an anti-hero who is obsessed, protective and will do just about anything for Mila. Mila is a heroine who has had a rough life with no-one to turn to. She's honorable but has done things in desperation. For me, these two were the perfect match and I loved their story.
The beginning annoyed my even more on this reread, Mila was resistant to his help for almost half the book and that really annoyed me. I get some initial hesitation but seriously given her situation? Broke, Livin in a shitty apartment in an unsafe neighborhood.....attacked by 2 thugs who knew where she lived.....and still?!!! Like miss ma'am get it together and let that man HELP you!!!ughhhh but when she finally gave in I loved it I'd really like to lower this rating to 3 stars tbh but the second half doesn't deserve that
Spoilers ahead, 3.5* rounded up only because 😑
This is pretty similar to book 1, but hey if it ain't broke don't fix it
Ash is the right hand man of the H of book 1. He meets Mila when she steals the wallet of a hotel guest and is caught. He's instantly captivated by the sarcastic little thief but she's very skittish. Mila has had a lot of bad luck in her life, her mother's distasteful behaviour just makes it worse. Now Mila finds herself fired unexpectedly through no fault of her own. To make matters worse her mother stole her check and her savings. Desperate she stole and was caught but thankfully was let go. She's unable to get the behemoth who took care of her out of her mind but life has to go on....until she's attacked and the safest place she could think of is his arms
****** Full confession I did not enjoy this as much as book 1 Too much internal monologue Nothing pisses me off in this type of trope than when the h is resistant to the help. I get it, I'm full of pride myself but bet your ass if I'm in desperate times I'm holding on to the hand that's stretched to help me. Mila was resistant for a good part of the book The daddy kink, I love me some moderate daddy kink but to me it didn't come across as genuine on the MCs part more like a follow along to book 1 Nevertheless a badass Alpha male determined to get his girl?? Yes ma'am
No cheating Sexy badass mofo H unalived anyone who touched the h Age gap of I think 12 years (don't quote me) I've been asked this a lot....can it be read as a standalone? I never know how to answer this tbh....but this one probably could as there's no overlapping story arch but book 1 was awesome so read it 😂 Virgin h, H celibate for months but I didn't get manwhore vibes
our FMC Mila has had a lifetime of having to look out for herself and making something out of just about nothing, but after being fired from her job and having her home broken into, she’s really down on her luck, feeling desperate, she decides to steals someone’s wallet to get dinner that night, little does she know, Ash, our MMC is watching the whole thing
Ash senses that Mila wouldn’t steal unless she really had to and immediately goes into protective mode, even not knowing her, he wants to give her a chance to not have to worry and to have someone else look after her
after being the only person she could trust all her life, can Mila really let go of the reins and let someone give her everything she wants and needs? not without a fight
seeing the push and pull between the characters was fun but once they finally came together, it was everything😭this book was hot, sweet, a good time, and showcased such wonderful communication! with the dynamics between the two characters, it was something that was needed and was amazing to see
it was such a joy to back in the Black Resorts universe and seeing all of our favorite characters after thinking ‘Little Dove’ would be the only book! also, i was putting some clues together for the next book, if it’s what i think it is, i need that book in my hands IMMEDIATELY😩
Absolutely loved the story! It was well written, paced well, and had a very likable heroine. I loved how she rambled when she was nervous and how he loved it and only wanted to take care of her. The "daddy" aspect wasn't too over the top and I think that even for people who don't normally like it, would still love this book. I liked the two MCs power dynamic a lot and loved their banter. They both brought out the best version of each other. I'm really looking forward to the next books in the series!
Ash is a “goon” and second in command. He’s powerful, dominant, lives by his own rules and craves a woman to take care of.
Mila has been discarded, used, neglected and abused all her life. Raised (and I use that word lightly) by a con woman, she’s built a life for herself to be proud of no matter how many times she gets knocked down. Her worthless mother ends up putting her in a bad spot and this act puts Mila right in Ash’s orbit.
Ash sees Mila and knows from the moment he sets his eyes on her she will be his. He will be her daddy. If only he can convince her to trust him with everything. With the trauma of her past it will take time but Ash is willing to be patient.
”She’s had a lot of monsters hiding in the dark.”
“Now she’s got one in the light, too.”
While this may have started out a bit slow and cumbersome, it picked up nicely around 50% and I really enjoyed it. I’d consider this a slow burn, as a lot of trust has to be built between Ash and Mila. But once they got there, it was kinky and knotty goodness. I enjoyed both characters. Ash with the alpha male deliciousness and protectiveness. And Mila with her sweetness. Overall, a great installment in this series that I’ve been waiting for for what feels like forever!
4.6 stars. This was hot. And so sweet. And a little bit healing. I really loved how he built her up. Also. The ropes. The ✨other✨ option when she turns away from his kiss..? 🫣😏 So hot.
I can’t wait to read the next book. I love a good why choose.
Mila’s life was sad and her mother was horrible. She needed someone like Ash to give her the life that she deserved. He was completely obsessed, protective, and had tons of touch her and ☠️ vibes. I loved getting to see Juliet and Maximo again. The interaction between the two women was super cute. I’m not usually a daddy kink reader but I loved how Ash took care of Mila.
I really enjoyed this. Which is surprising since the first book in this series was a dnf for me.
The H and h are really cute together and they have adorable banter. The fact this whole book takes place within a week or so is really unrealistic-- but the writing flows.
A slow burn, age gap romance that I have some mixed feelings about!
Camila/Mila (h) isn’t just down on her luck, she’s never had any at all. Her mum is a terror on her life and her latest shenanigans have put Mila in a terrible position. In a desperate moment, of which she’s had many, Mila resorts to criminal activity so that she can eat. When she gets caught stealing by the super sexy Ash (H), he doesn’t turn her in… he makes sure she gets the food she desperately needs. Now Ash is determined to look after Mila, whether she likes it or not.
Generally speaking, I enjoyed reading this. Although the pacing was off, I wanted Mila and Ash to get their happy ending. That being said, this was super slow in some parts and super fast in others. Most of the action happens in the last 20%, and that’s not because the romance is developing prior, because nothing romantic happens between them until after 50% (70% for spice). I understood the need to set up the relationship in a way that levelled the power dynamics between them a bit, but ultimately the book suffered for it because that first 50% felt like a drag at times.
I liked Mila’s character and how strong she was, but did feel like the push/pull came off as immature at times and this was seemingly at odds with what the author was trying to achieve (or maybe not idk). Ash was a pretty good H… I expected the Daddy thing with this author and I didn’t mind it, but it didn’t feel like something special between them because Ash had seemingly engaged in this behaviour with all previous women in his romantic history. To me, that kind of ruins the vibe of this unique dynamic. I want it to be something that he only has with Mila, but that just wasn’t the case. This was especially frustrating because she was a virgin with no experience and so much younger (20yrs to his 32yrs). I think that’s possibly why the tension and chemistry between them was almost non-existent. I like the tension of the H realising his tastes are changing or adapting to fit his dynamic with the h, and this did not have that because he has “always been a Daddy”. Mostly, it was just him sorting out all of her problems and convincing her why he should be in control of her life. Then, when it seemed appropriate, they started having sex and trying out kinks. And yet, the spice felt very vanilla and generic to me. It was just him spanking her and tying her up and then them having normal, plain old sex. Maybe I’m the problem here but that just seems so beige in a story that’s built on the Daddy dom/sub dynamics. Am I just a wh*re?? Maybe.
Ultimately, still a decent read and I liked seeing the characters from Little Dove. The had a lot of set-up for the next book, so that will be interesting!
Safety: h is a virgin. H seemingly not a manwhore (no real history given, other than he had been celibate for a few months - I wasn’t as impressed by this as the h was lol) H claimed he had always been a “Daddy” and so the assumption was that all of his relationships prior to the h had the same Daddy d/s dynamics. No ow or om drama. Jealousy and possessiveness from the H. TW*

Sometimes as a reader you get lucky and find an author who writes in a style you really enjoy and you quickly inhale everything they've written and preorder everything the ever write, that's me when it comes to Layla Frost.
I really enjoyed this trip back to Black Resorts, especially getting to focus on our favorite Handsome Goon. 😉 We knew a bit about Ash from book 1, but I'll admit he was a surprise in several aspects of his life/background (and his family is a hoot!)
Mila was so darn feisty and scrappy, she was a fighter and survivor and I really cheered for her HEA the whole way. She really had that trauma bond with Juliet that made their friendship so believable and organic. And her experiences really did bring out the Daddy in Ash, in all the best ways.
I enjoyed the balance of the dark/gritty reality of Vegas life, the fun and funny humor and moments I've come to enjoy in every Layla book, and of course the steamy bits weren't to be forgotten either 😉
The set up for book 3 is sprinkled throughout so now I'm chomping at the bit for her to give us more from the Black Resorts crew, but until then I'm happy to reread often!
WOW, just wow... MIND-BLOWINGLY HOT!!!! I honestly thought Little Dove couldn't be beat on the sexiness level, but I was oh so wrong, Little Sunshine shot it into the stratosphere!
Ash freakin' Copper, hot d@mn, how can a OTT Alpha Daddy, be so darn cinnamon roll gooey centered? Even more shocking is how NOT sweet, but bloody he can be to those who cross him, and dare to hurt his loved ones. Loved every single facet of him!!! Mila, oh my, how my heart hurt so badly for her, not only by her constant abuse from those around her, but also her deep seated loneliness. If there is anyone who deserved the awesomeness that is Daddy Ash it was her.
Adored everything about this story, and even with those EPIC epilogues, I'm already dying for the next book in the series!!!

AHHH I really liked their story 🫂 To be honest the whole 'Daddy' thing for me was too much, but that is just my opinion... It felt a little bit too pervert 😬🫢

In the beginning I felt so bad for her 😭 She is such a cutie & I loved how she found love and got more confident over time 🤍🙌🫂

This guy is 🔥🔥🔥
I really liked him and appreciated that he showed Milla what really love is 🦋✨☀️
Man, this is probably more like a 3.5. The writing was well done, but the story and the characters just didn't really grip me like in "Little Dove". Nothing awful, but not many remarkable moments either. Very slow burn, no kissing until after 50%, no sex until 71%. It did have quite a bit of rope play if that's your thing. I will say I have no plans to read the next book in the series. I hate that everything is becoming a reverse harem. In general, the whole concept is highly unrealistic to the point I can't suspend my disbelief and part of the appeal of this book is the jealous possessiveness of the H, so to have 3 of them sharing one woman feels forced just to try to draw in a new demographic.
When I tell you this was my most anticipated release of 2024…. And it did NOT disappoint. I adored how different Mila & Ash’s story was to Maximo & Juliet’s despite having a lot of similar themes. Re-entering Ash’s world felt like revisiting friends and I loved that we got to see Juliet, Maximo, Freddy, Cole & Marco again too.
My favorite thing about Ash in Little Dove was his sense of humor and how protective he was of Juliet, even though she wasn’t “his.” Both of those traits were brought over into Little Sunshine & Ash’s protectiveness latched on to Mila immediately and I adored it. They joke Maximo has a thing with bringing home strays but I think Ash does as well. 🤭
I can’t blame him though because I also fell in love with Mila immediately. I wanted to give her the biggest hug and take her under my wing and felt the same instant attachment I felt for Juliet. I couldn’t wait for them to meet and become friends because Mila really needed someone and I knew Juliet empathize in ways Ash couldn’t.
I started this book as SOON as Layla sent out the ARCs (and called off work so I could consume it immediately) and devoured it in one sitting. I’m so grateful that Layla provided me with an ARC and that she gave us Ash’s story. The only bad thing about getting an ARC is having to wait for the book to be released so I can snatch up a physical copy 😂 Can't wait to revisit this world again in Little Goddess but in the meantime, preorder Little Sunshine on Kindle, devour it as soon as you can on June 11th and then blow up my DMs with your thoughts!! There are few subjects I adore talking about more than the Black Resorts books!
P.S. Ash’s introductory line into Daddy Kink is just as amazing as Maximo’s “Fuck, you need a Daddy bad” so have a change of panties on standby.
I was very excited for this book, since I LOVE Little Dove and since the first post Layla made about giving Ash a book, I've been thinking about it.
I had the feeling that the book was a bit fast, the relationship between the characters wasn't very well developed for me. But I can't deny that I loved seeing them together and the funny little moments between these two.
Ash is a character I've fallen in love with since Little Dove so I don't have much to say about him, I really enjoyed finding out more about him and his family and I loved seeing the affection and obsession he feels for Mila from their first meeting.
Mila is a character I didn't really connect with, but she's someone I had a slight attachment to. Despite everything she's been through, she remains strong and fearless even though she goes through a lot every day. I was happy to see her finally getting some peace and enjoying the life that Ash is happy to provide for her.
I felt the story lacked a better development, a plot to give it an extra touch. For example, the mystery surrounding the Eternal Sun and the owner of the place left me with a few theories until the end of the book and I hoped there would be a plot involving them, but nothing.
Overall, I have to say that I loved seeing Juliet and Maximo again 🥰❤️❤️😍🥰🥺.
My Review: "Little Sunshine" by Laya Frost is like a ray of sunshine in the Black Resorts series! ☀️ Whether you're diving into this as the second book or starting fresh, you're in for a treat. But seriously, do yourself a favor and read "Little Dove" too – it's worth it!
Ash is like a golden retriever hero, but only for, Mila. 🐶💕 Seriously, he's the epitome of the perfect book boyfriend! His caring and protective nature makes him irresistible. And Mila? Oh, she's been through the wringer with her mom (ugh, don't even get me started), but she's still got this amazing blend of sweetness and feistiness. Watching her open up to Ash after a lifetime of loneliness? Cue the heartstrings tug! 💔😍
But what really got me hooked was the dynamic between Ash and Mila. The whole daddy and the rope vibe? Loved it! It's that perfect blend of sweet and spicy that keeps you turning the pages. 🔥
And let's not forget about Frost's banter game—it's on point! The exchanges between the MMCs are pure entertainment, just like in Little Dove. Oh, and catching up with Maximo, Juliet, and the gang is like seeing old friends again!
“Little Sunshine" is a must-read that'll leave you grinning from ear to ear. 💞 P.S. I read the placeholder blurb for the next book on Amazon, and I'm screaming! Cole, Marco, and Freddy's stories? A why-choose by Layla? Count me in! 📚😱

easiest five stars i’ve had to give ever!!!! i don’t even have the words for this one other than it was a wondrous masterpiece. flawless. execution devoured and ate. mila and ash, you behemoth, you two have my heart!!! little sunshine has everything i’m always looking for in my books and it hit especially hard to see mila suffer the way she did. but the way ash stepped in so smoothly and became her protector and her daddy and her love… that left me breathless at every corner. layla knows how to write and her black resorts series will forever be top tier i cannot wait for marco, cole, and freddy in little goddess!!!!
I do so enjoy Layla Frost books. Most of them have been 5 stars for me. This one is pretty good but it just didn’t quite make it to 5 stars for me.
Ash is a dreamy hero. He’s intense and possessive. Mila is not my favorite heroine. I think she’s well written BUT her prickliness and obstinance about being cared for got really old to me and dulled her shine as a heroine.
I enjoyed getting to see glimpses of Juliette and Maximus. Those two are a hard act to follow for sure!
This is a slower burn, they don’t get it on til nearly 70%.

Layla slayed once again with this one. I loved the last book in this series and was sooo excited for this one to come out. It didn’t disappoint! Mila was such a well written FMC and felt very relatable. Ash was a typical over the top, obsessed hero (which I adore). It took longer than expected for them to get together tbh but I don’t mind. Overall, a sweet, fluffy, spicy romance.
ALSO I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I can’t believe I have to wait until February 2025… But I know it will slay.
This was perfect. I absolutely love that caregiver dynamic and Ash was just amazing. I love how Mila was strong and independent but learnt to be vulnerable with Ash.
