5 Words: Intense, hot, shocking, deception, love.

Masked pick up right where Switch ends. And it is one heck of a ride. It's my favourite of the New World Order books so far! But this time the focus is on Bridgette and Roman, with a hint of Missy right at the end.

This is a series that you have to read in order - if you jump straight in you won't know the full picture and it won't be so awesome. But it's also a series you get easily involved in - I need book 3 now! NOW!

This book is so much more complicated than the first. Every relationship, everything that happens, every plot twist, it just blew my mind. And back comes the hot, steamy, sexy romance. Wowsers.

Again, the narrative is split so you get to see different perspectives of the same story. This helps to build the tension and take the whole story in unexpected directions. And it also leads to some shocks and some "what does that character know that I don't?".

Janelle Stalder presents us with yet another New Adult triumph that reads so well and ends with such a "WHAT?!" that you just want to read on. But you can't. Because it's the end. For now.

I want so badly to know Missy's story. The set up for the next book was definitely a success, so I can't wait!

Awesomeness overdose.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

Masked is the second book in the New World series, so this review might contain spoilers from the first book, but I'll try to keep it as spoiler free as possible.

Masked is the story of Bridgette and Roman. After the events of the first book, Bridgette switches places with her sister, and starts working inside the New World Order headquarters as Weapon X. The only problem is that it's becoming really hard to act like her sister, especially when she is around Roman Adamson, second in command of the New World Order.

Masked was just as amazing as Switch and maybe even more. Since we already knew the characters from the first book it was really easy getting sucked inside the story. All those amazing, hot boys Janelle created will keep you wanting more. One bonus in this book is the Archers, another resistance group in New Berlin. I was kind of excited when we met them, 'cause they weren't what I expected and they set the basis for the next couple of books. The two resistance groups are really fun to read about. The were so many hilarious moments, just because they all had to be in the same room. And of course so much action. I love it!

Of course there is also romance. Hot steamy BridgexRoman romance. I love those two. The have such great chemistry, even if they kind of fell in love in first sight. I think I like them even better than McKay and Charlotte from the first book, but that's probably because while I was reading this book Bridgette reminded me so much of me. If only I had Roman, too... Anyways, the big surprise for me in this book is that I actually couldn't help but fall in love with Ludwig, the bad guy... I don't know how Janelle does it but she has a way of working her magic to the readers. She can give a soul to the devil, in our case Ludwig, and can make us fall for him.

This book of course ended in another WTF moment. I was expecting that after reading the first one. But there were also a few other twists throughout the book that had me socked out of my chair.

Anyways, this is an amazing New Adult Dystopian book. With beautiful world-building and such alive and unique characters. I can't wait for more.

SUMMARY (50 words or less)
I really loved the first book and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. Bridgette on the surface doesn’t seem as strong as her sister, but the more we get to know her, the more we learn different. Most importantly Roman. We finally get to see Roman… sigh.

I just have so much questions. I don't seem to understand how people can just switch sides so easily in war especially to become the enemy of the man that took you in and gave you everything. And he wasn't just any man, he is a man that really cared for you and treated you as an equal.

So no simpler thing could be said but this:

So first warning: This is part of a series. If you not read book one, do not read this review. I am serious there are things that cannot be tip-toed around. And i am not going to. I promise I will not spoil this book though.

Second warning: I was given this as an ARC (SUPER HONORED! - sounds like a new awesome super hero.... Super Honored, flying around being honorable....okay moving on) in exchange for an honest review. And that is what I do, is honesty. So good? Good!

Third warning: oh yes, there is a third one: i. love. this. series. i love everything Janelle writes - i swear i would be riveted by her grocery list - I am sure its magic.

Song Choice: "Explosions" by Ellie Goulding (you know what I don't even care this is on the new - well new at the time i write this review for that new commercial for that movie that i forgot the name of), "Not Without Haste" by Mumford and Sons

First thoughts: Seriously? I was livid at the end of Switch - livid, I was out of my mind with just like....my brain exploded. If you read it you understand! I won't give away anything in the first thoughts but my God I was foaming at the mouth to get this book! And the wait - worth it, worth it a 100 times over. It just got better and better as the book went on. After awhile I had to stop every so often because I was trying to pace myself because as much as i would like for things to automatically be on paper that is not how it works. So my pacing plan didn't work, obviously because I am done haha. Who cares- WORTH IT, WORTH IT WORTH IT WORTH IT

Thoughts on plot:
So last book we were left off with Bridge in Charlotte's spot. I was freaking out! How could you not be! So this book was awesomely paced, leaving us hanging at the worst place possible *she says through clenched teeth* doesn't matter kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, and practically - okay literally - screaming when it happened. Oh but it was worth every frustrated moment. The chemistry between Bridge and Roman, whole-y hot damn it would make the biggest chemistry nerd happy - there was so much of it. So much. I loved the suspense in this book, I loved all the new ideas and twists that were presented. I never felt like it was really sprung on us, like coming out of the blue, I think what it did though was explain - give the reader and even the characters - better understanding of themselves, and others. There was a lot of new things introduced but there were old things that had to be dealt with as well. I think that this was just as exciting and just as well written as book one I am BEYOND excited for book three - for reals! I am EEEEEEEEEEEEE SO EXCITED. How do I even? Uh so much love. This is a really truly unique dysoptia with a nice tiny flare of sci-fi <3

Characters:

So I did my picks for these characters in my review for Switch but for a refresher

Bridgette:

and

Roman:

sosososososo okay first off before i do individual characters:

I love Janelle's Characters - seriously all of them. She blurs the line of black and white, good and bad, there is nothing quite as dangerous as a man who believes that what he is doing is right, not matter how wrong it truly is. And the most dangerous of those men are the ones who make you see their points of views. So with that I love the "good" guys in this book and i love the "bad" guys So sososos awesome! Seriously, and the worst part? I don't even hate to love them. I just actually care about them

Bridgette: She was awesome. I really liked in the first book and I was so excited to have the book a little more focused on her in this book. While Charlotte is very sassy, and hard, Bridge is sweet, and loving. Don't mistake her for being weak though she is anything but. She was major badassery, yeah badassery. Bridge though, was full of life, she was really a shining light in darkness and she was so very brave. I could see that passion in her and I loved her so very much!

Roman: He was all sorts of awesome. I mean in book one, he was often painted as the bad guy for us, he was the one who wanted to keep Char and Pete from each other, he always seemed to get in the way or be there when he shouldn't be. But in this book we really do see a whole new side of him probably because we get to see in his head, but there is so much to this man, so very much and i enjoyed very moment learning a little more about him. God damn this man was swoon-worthy! Just damn. hahaha.

Ludwig: Now see even in the first book I was a little bit on the fence about him, I didn't necessarily hate him, but i wasn't entirely thrilled with him either - in the first book i was always leaning more toward hate then love, in this book, I sort of liked him? Does that make me a bad person? He was hard to hate in the book when he so obviously cared for Char.

Douglas on the other hand I hated more then ever, for reals! And that is all i am going to say about that.

Tyler: OH MY GOD. I am so in love with him its not even funny. I barely know his personality but I know that I love him. And um... can I haz him? I will take your silence as a yes, so YAY!!!!!!

The new characters: OH I LOVE THE NEW characters I very excited about them but I cannot talk about them in fear of spoilers so HA!

Ending: :| seriously. SERIOUSLY?! ugh. I am going to go cry in a corner because of that cliffie.

Look here are my fine thoughts: Seriously just read these books I don't know how you can hate them.

**SPOILER ALERT**
**IF YOU HAVEN’T READ BOOK ONE THEN DO NOT READ THIS**

Masked is the second book in the New World series and this time we join Bridgette (Charlotte/Dinah/weapon X’s sister from book one) risking her life by entering the HQ of the New World Order under the guise of ‘weapon X’. Having seen her sister tied to a chair and beaten by their father and leader of the opposition, Bridge is made to go undercover to save her sisters life by completing a task that will supposedly bring down the regime. Once there she waits for more instructions but how will she fit into Charlottes’ life? The mask goes a long way to hide her appearance but what about everything else? How should she act? How should she talk? and just how on earth is she going to be able to remain this close to Roman Adamson? He brings out something in her, a connection, a want… will he be her downfall? Roman knows something has changed with Lottey but he can’t quite put his finger on it, she’s bringing out feelings he never used to have, making him feel things he swore he would never feel and making him want things he shouldn’t… he decides to stay away and focus on the big events coming up for the NWO, namely searching for the rebels and overseeing the arms shipment that will empower the army….if he can only stop thinking about her.
Elsewhere, Charlotte is determined to get Bridgette out of the HQ, so along with her boyfriend – former second in command to her father - she starts hatching a plan to save her sister but they’re going to need help and in these precarious times it’s doubtful whether they will get it but they must try…for Bridgette’s sake at least.

So, I loved this sequel, I’m loving everything about it and I’m loving the series, who would have thought I could get so involved with a dystopian book??
I was really pleased that the book focussed on Bridgette and Roman because they connected in book one and what chemistry they had! They sizzled around each other and I was desperate for them to get together so it was great to get their story. It’s no surprise that I love both characters – Bridgette blossomed in her new surroundings and found out some new things about herself. Roman took a chance on his heart which softened him and we got to know him a lot better and realised that he may not have been in his position, made to do bad things had circumstances been different and he was making the best out of a bad situation. The chemistry between them was amplified from book one and makes for some very charged moments between them, they try to fight it but love will conquer all, so get those fans out ladies, it’s about to get HOT!
The story line was brill! I loved the intensity of knowing Bridgette could be found out at any time, I loved that even though Roman didn’t know it was Bridgette under the mask that he was picking up on differences, be it her shape, feel, attitude, skills, everything… he knew something was up. I loved what she did to him, how she made him feel, the connection they shared and vice versa, even how uncomfortable he was thinking that the feelings were towards Lottey & I was waiting with baited breath for him to realise who it actually was. The romance and getting to know you part of the relationship was lovely and really got the heart pounding with the little moments they shared, desperate for the closeness so they could take it that one step further and loving the sweetness it brought to their harsh world.
I liked where the action part of the plot went, it was just as action packed as book one & you could never say that the plot relied on either just the romance or the action because they were both equally good and both keep you on the edge of your seat. It was all very exciting and I read it with caution wondering if & when the ***t would hit the fan but knowing it would bring some awesome action and it did! There are quite a few revelations throughout the book that make you see some characters in a different light and definitely blurs the lines of who we believe to be good or bad and I’m left very curious about a lot of things. I loved the introduction of the Archers (a new band of rebels that are independent from ‘The General’) I thought they were a very welcome addition to the story and brought something a little different to the table, they make me more excited for future books because I can see at least 3 new stories coming from this new band of rebels. I thought this book brought about a game changer too especially with the revelations & consequences of what happened and I’m really curious to see where it all goes next and of course hoping for a HEA for our next couple – Tyler & Missy … I can’t wait!

4.5 Sensational, New World Stars!
A Perfect Follow Up To An Impressive New Series! Full Of Action, Amazing Characters and Nail-Biting Suspense!

The Review:
As most of my friends know, I'm a huge Janelle Stalder fan. I love her books. She writes such interesting, thrilling, explosive and fantastical stories filled with the absolute best characters. So when given the opportunity to read and review any of her work, I jump right on it.

Masked will rank right up there with my all time favorites by her. I loved this read!

Story/Character...
This is book two in the New World series. In book one, Switch, we left off with Bridgette, Charlotte’s sister, heading off into enemy territory, pretending to be her sister, also known as Weapon X, where she was told to infiltrate the New Word Order headquarters at her father's command. After having beat his youngest daughter, Charlotte within an inch of her life, The General, their father, saw an opportunity to hold Charlotte as leverage and use Bridgette as a tool to spy on his enemy, set to do damage and harm when the opportunity revealed itself.

Bridgette’s life could be in real danger if she’s ever discovered and trying to fool the camp into believing she is her sister might be much harder than she anticipated, even hiding behind the dark mask her sister was made to wear. Add to her anxiety, is the very formidable and handsome Roman, who I have been dying to learn more about since book one. He seems to attract Bridgette in ways she never thought possible and her situation is tenuous at best.

In the rogue camp, unknown to Bridgette, Charlotte has been rescued from her father's clutches by Pete and his band of rebels. Together, they formulate a plan to save Bridgette but needing help, they seek out another band of rebels in another district. Even with the extra manpower, things never seem to go according to plan, especially when they have the General out there with delusions of grandeur.

But there are a lot of secrets and revelations and everyone has an agenda. Add to that, budding romances all over the place and you have one heck of a read! To top it all off, we see a much different side to Ludwig, the “enemy”, who seems to have earned a reprieve in my eyes. I came to love his character.

Thoughts...
This book is filled to the brim with wonderful scenes between all the characters we grew to love in book one, Switch, and also introduced an array of new characters who were a thrill to get to know. I absolutely loved the introduction of another rogue group called the Archers. This group was wild, uninhibited and full of energy. There were love matches going on all over the place and a ton of twist and turns I truly wasn’t expecting.

We see a lot of the sexy Roman and his romance with Bridgette forms into a riveting, angst filled journey as these two embark on the forbidden. Pete and Charlotte are still my favorite so far but there’s a lot of wonderful pairings to choose from in this book.

And best of all, we finally get to know WHY Charlotte is special, along with some other exciting revelations that I won't mention because it would spoil if for you. Yes, I know, I'm a tease. But all the questions I had from book one, are answered in this one with new questions and adventures raised that are a fantastic lead in to the next book in the series, Tested, which I cannot wait for!

The Wrap Up:
This book is a perfect addition to a series I'm already in love with. The characters, the storylines, the plot.. all of it make for a fantastic read and I can’t suggest it enough. And with a cliffy that will shock you and have you wide eyed, book three can’t come fast enough!

After finishing the first book in this series, Switch , I knew that this would be another brilliant read from Ms. Stalder! To read my review of Switch , please go HERE!

Let's first talk about the covers for this series. They are uh-mazing, am I right? This is a cover that just jumps out at you and says

read me photo: Read Me readme-8.png

I love the color of the cover model's eyes. They are like ocean blue! I wish mine were that color:(

So, enough about my obsession with the cover, now onto the good stuff....

The book starts off with an awesome prologue. We get a glimpse at Bridgette's POV from the beginning when the New World Order had killed her mother and taken Charlotte. I loved seeing her side and how it was so easily mistaken that Charlotte was dead.

We then jump to exactly the point where we left off. Bridgette is with the New World leaders pretending to be Charlotte. This was scary for me and I cringed with every word and every action crossing my fingers that she wouldn't get caught. Her attraction for Roman was phenomenal! She was able to pretty much keep her composure around him even if he knew something was different. And oh, is Bridgette different. Bridgette is light-hearted where Charlotte has a tough exterior. Charlotte can be quite the smart ass and Bridgette is kind and caring.

I enjoyed getting Roman's POV and actually fell quite head over heels for him in this book! The guilt that he carries for bringing Charlotte into this world is enormous. We also get more to his story and background and find out how he ended up as a New World Leader in the first place. His soft side shows through and I guarentee that if you did not like him before, you will in this installment! Not to mention the fact that his emotions are all jumbled up inside because he starts to feel things for Dinah that he had never before. He had only looked at her like a sister and now his feelings are changing and he just can't put his finger on it.

We also get to see more of Pete and Charlotte. Their love for each other is endless and I find it amusing that Pete is always trying to protect Charlotte when she really could be the one protecting him!

There is an onslaught of new characters that is more ladies! Woot Woot! And boy are they something! We get small glimpses of each of the new characters and from what I have seen already, they are awesome and the kind of woman that I could see myself hanging with and having a few! I do feel that there will be more "hook ups" coming in the next book and I am super stoked to see where all these new characters lead.

In conclusion, if you enjoyed the first book in the series, (how could you not?) then this is a must read and you need to gobble it up upon it's release. The ending, of course, leaves us on quite the cliffhanger, so you will go through agony while waiting for the next book. But, it's so worth it!

“I don’t deserve to know any piece of the heaven I’ve found with you.”

4.5 very enthusiastic stars! ★★★★1/2

This picks up shortly after book one. Actually, probably a day or two before the ending of book one. This was Roman and Bridgette’s story. In book one; we met Ludwig Tennebris’ second in command Roman Adamson. I really like Roman and it was nice to learn more about how he came to be in Ludwig’s army, though I still wanted more. Roman has done some horrible things and because of them, he feels that he is underserving of love and happiness. When he meets Bridgette he finds in her something that he thought forever gone, she is carefree and happy and a tad innocent in that she still believes despite all she has seen that people can be good.

I’m very pleased we got to also spend more time with Ludwig. He is a cruel man and yet it is clear he feels love for Roman and Charlotte. His dark wounded past has made him the dictator who is and yet he has shown time again that he has a heart. A couple of scenes between him and Roman tugged at my heart strings. Very curious to see how Janelle Stalder will navigate his story. I think of all the storylines so far his will be the most difficult.

I really enjoyed how old and new characters were introduced. Glad it wasn’t just about Roman and Bridgette, I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much if it had been. We catch up with Pete and Charlotte and meet a crew of some kickass women who gave the guys some competition.

The only reason this is not a five star read is this: Bridgette. Let me start by saying that I like Bridgette. In any other scenario I would have been happy with her. There was just something about her which I can’t name and the fact that Roman’s proximity seemed to kill her brain cells that irritated me a bit. All of a sudden she forgot what her mission was because her hormones were out of control and instead of finding it cute, I was annoyed. She was supposed to be pretending to be Charlotte and her behavior was very un-Charlotte which results in me not being 100% sold on the fact that Ludwig and Roman didn’t figure out something was wrong sooner. It took them WAY longer than I expected.

Overall, a nice addition to the series so far. I’m looking forwarding to getting to know Tyler, Missy and the rest of this anti-establishment, anti-rebellion crew.

Thank you Janelle Stalder for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Masked takes off were Switched ended, with Bridgette impersonating her sister Charlotte aka “Weapon X”, she faces obvious the obvious challenges of pretending to be someone else especially since she hardly knows anything about her sister as well as being in the center of the New World government without being discovered.

Things I loved:

-Roman: He has been my favorite character since book 1, even if we didn’t see much of him, in this book we see more sides of him, we see that he is more than the second in command of the New World he is a genuine caring, loving man and unlike many villains he has no problem admitting that he has done horrible things along with being ashamed of them. He shows the world that you can be a tough bad guy but still be a gentleman with the woman you love.

-The inside look we got of the government we were able to see how it worked, how Ludwing handled himself with everything life threw of him, this insight actually make me like Ludwing.

-I’m glad that the old characters were not forgotten and that the new characters promise to be amazing.

-Did I already mention Roman??

-The fact that Bridgette never saw thing in black or white was very refreshing.

Things that didn’t work for me:

-Bridgette: When she was by herself she was an amazing main character but all her wonderful traits were lost when she thought of Roman or was near to him; it’s seemed her brain shut down when it came to him.

-Multiple points of view: This worked perfectly in the first but this time it annoyed me, perhaps it was because I only wanted to know about Bridgette and Roman.

-Charlotte and Bridgette’s parents: seriously what was wrong with them, you’re supposed to love your kids.

-The ending: why do my favorite authors do this to me!! It’s cruel to end your books in a cliffhanger.

I've been looking forward to this book ever since finishing Switch, especially with that cliffhanger of an ending! We were introduced to Bridgette in the first book but were not really given the opportunity to get to know her. She is much softer than her sister, Charlotte, but don't mistake that softness for weakness. She is full of life and love and is determined to live each day to its fullness but is also willing to do what she has to in order to survive. She is a fighter. Roman I was super excited to find out more about. In the first book I was never sure what to think of him. He was such an interesting character, however, that I just could not get him out of my head. And now…he's everything I was hoping he would be and more. Don't get me wrong. He's definitely not one of the good guys, but he is soooooo good! He did what he had to in order to survive, but that doesn't really negate his past acts. So where does this leave us? Definitely confused. One thing I really liked about his character was that he never made excuses for who he was or what he did. The only thing he has now is to try to be better, whatever the cost to himself.

I loved each and every character in this story, and I love how the author is able to take a story where there should be a very clear right/wrong and blur those edges. Her characters make decisions based on their feelings and the situations they are involved in rather than the consequences that might come later. There was a lot going on in the story in terms of plot as well. The fight for survival is ongoing but with new revelations around every corner.

Overall I loved this book and I love this series. There was a very nice setup for the next book with the oh so mysteriously intriguing Tyler, and I can't wait! Thank you to Janelle Stalder for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I fell in love with Janelles writing with Eden. And she's done it again.

Masked is fast paced and action packed.
Masked is romantic and sexy at the same time.
Masked is full of lovable characters (of which we've met most already in Switch)
Masked shows how someone who does bad things isn't always a bad person.
Masked was amazing, and I can't wait for the sequel!

***This review contains spoilers for Switch, the first book in this series.***

Masked is an exciting second book in the New World series. After reading (and loving) Switch, I couldn't wait to find out what happened next!

Masked starts off right where Switch left off - with Bridgette posing as Charlotte (and as Weapon X). She is tasked with planting a bomb in the New World headquarters, otherwise her father has threatened to harm Charlotte (more than he already has). Impersonating Charlotte (even while masked) is difficult enough, but she also finds herself having to fight her attraction to Roman, the New World's second in command.

Meanwhile Charlotte, Pete and the rest of the rebels are trying to find a way to rescue Bridgette before she's discovered - or before her father gets to her.

The negatives:

Somewhat unbelievable.
I had a hard time believing that Bridgette was able to fool everyone into thinking she was Charlotte for so long. First of all, it's not as if she'd been around Charlotte for the past five years to really get that good of a handle on her personality, so I found it hard to believe that she mimicked her even as well as she did. Plus, both Roman and Ludwig noticed some sudden changes in Charlotte, but they weren't suspicious at all. I kept waiting for one of them (especially Roman) to figure it out! I definitely had to suspend disbelief on this aspect of the book.

Insta-lust?
I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that these books feature insta-love, but it's definitely insta-lust that moves pretty quickly toward love. The first book focused on Charlotte and Pete, but Roman and Bridgette actually met in that book and were instantly attracted to each other. Then, in this book, Roman and Bridgette's relationship moved forward and a new couple is introduced - Tyler and Missy, who are also immediately attracted to each other. This time seemed even less believable to me, since they had almost no contact before the attraction developed and since Missy didn't trust men due to a past traumatic experience - I couldn't see any reason why she would feel so drawn to Tyler after just seeing him from across a room (and luckily he was drawn to her too). That doesn't mean I'm not interested in seeing Tyler and Missy's story in the next book - I'm actually really looking forward to it - I just wish the pattern of the "instant connection" could be toned down a bit.

What I LOVED:

Roman and Bridgette.
Since this book centered around the romance between Roman and Bridgette, it's a good thing that they were AMAZING together. I loved that Roman was totally struggling with his feelings because he thought he was lusting after Charlotte. And then, of course, Bridgette was pretty insecure about any feelings that she thought Roman might have for her because she figured those feelings were really directed toward
Charlotte. The sexual tension between these two was pretty much off the charts, and the more I got to know Roman, the more I loved him. Once I got past the instant attraction thing, this was pretty much a recipe for an awesome romance!

Likable villains.
I LOVE the villains in this series! It's actually kind of hard to say who the real villains are. At the beginning of the series, the leaders of the New World Order (Roman and Ludwig) are presented as "bad guys," but by the end of book one, you're already figuring out that it's not that simple. Well, this book definitely blurred those lines either further - Roman comes out looking like a hero and Bridgette even finds herself liking Ludwig. By the end of the book, I actually felt kind of sorry for him. This book makes it clear that Ludwig's intentions are usually good, even when his methods aren't. Does that make him a good guy? Well, no not exactly, but he's not an evil mastermind either. So, is Charlotte and Bridgett's dad the true villain then? Well, for now it definitely looks like it, but I'm not jumping to conclusions - with this series, there may not be any true good or bad guys - and if there are, we might be confused about who they are right up until the very end!

New rebels.
There are some new players introduced in this book - the rebels from the "other" side of town. They turn out to be a bunch of tough, colorful women and I loved them! They're real characters - each and every one of them!

I highly recommend this series to fans of NA and dystopian. This book ended on a definite cliffhanger, and I can't wait to find out what Stalder has in store for us next! 4/5 Stars

Marked Review on K-Books

"I don't deserve to know any piece of heaven found with you. You're far too good for me."

Ever since I read her debut novel, Eden, I have been completely enraptured by the work of Janelle Stalder. She is such a fantastic author and has such a skill and talent when it comes to the written word. Every book is a fast action-packed, romance-filled roller coaster ride and Masked is no different. I thought nothing could quite beat the wonder that was Switch but Masked made me eat my words. Janelle has taken this new dystopic world and upped the stakes by a million.

Bridgette has taken her sisters place in the home of the enemy. Challenged with a task she must complete Bridgette must make sure her identity is kept secret or her life may be threatened. But that is easier said than done when Roman elicts feelings in her nobody has before. Will Bridgette do her job or are her feelings entangled too far already?

I seriously fell head over heels in love with this book. After finishing the first novel in this series I already liked Roman and was looking forward to reading his story. It was not a disappointment and I believe that I may have preferred this book over its predecessor. Right from the start I was pulled into the storyline and I couldn't put it down.

Bridgette is such a great character. She is nothing like Charlotte but that is a great thing. Bridgette has not been hardened by the world and she has a vulnerability. Everyone knows how much I love a tough kick-ass heroine but it is so important to have a heroine that has weaknesses and is vulnerable as well and I think it's something that a lot of readers tend to forget about. Having a character that is very vulnerable allows you more room for character development and growth and Janelle most definitely took advantage of this and the way she made Bridgette the way she is showed just how cleverly planned out this book is. Bridgette definitely goes on a journey thoroughout the book and by the end of the book she is still true to herself and still has that softness but she's a lot more capable and kick-ass. The best thing about this is that we get to experience the things that make her this way with her rather than coming into the story with her already being toughened. I adored that about this book.

Masked was a fantastic journey and I genuinelly loved every single moment of it. Janelle Stalder is definitely one of my favourite authors of all time and there is nothing that this woman can write that I won't devour. If you haven't yet started this series I urge you to do so immediately. You won't be disappointed. This is a fantastic, fast-paced, action-packed and romance-filled dystopia series that is most definitely up there as one of the best in the genre. I loved it.

So, we jump right in where we left off. Charlotte/Dina/X sister’s Bridgette has gone to the inside of the center of the new world war compound, impersonating her, because she wants to save Charlotte. She has no idea what she’s going up against. This characters are all back for some more awesome, and we even get to meet so excellent new characters, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come now that we’ve had the little surprise plot twist with Bridgette. :) Nope, won’t be spilling that little secret. LOL

So, we not only get to see inside Bridgette’s head, who’s not really that much like Charlotte. But I wouldn’t have expected that, with Charlotte watching her mother’s murder, and living in the compound for so long. Bridgette is a little more carefree. And yet, she is so surprised but Roman and Ludwig’s care and concern for Charlotte. I think Bridgette maybe thought Charlotte was living a miserable prisoned life. She got some surprises. She also has the major hots for Roman, and he for her. But then it gets complicated because they are on opposite sides. And she’s supposed to be her sister, so does Roman have the hots for her or for Charlotte? ooooooh, a little drama is always fun :) Plus, it’s pretty cool to see things from Bridgette who’s funny and more spunky than Charlotte.

Roman is awesome! I loved him, even if I thought his well intentioned actions were a little off. He’s hard, but you finally get to learn a whole lot about him. He’s one of my favorite characters. He may be strong, and sometimes cruel, but you also see that he has remorse, and feelings, and he wants to do the right thing, but sometimes you are taught something, and things can change. Roman and Bridgette’s relationship is a really really cute one. I am all for them!

And though we are still mostly about Bridgette and Roman, we are definitely still all about Charlotte and Pete. And Pete’s brothers, and the new characters, and the rest of the resistance. And lets talk bad guys. You know, you will get to see a new side of Ludwig in this one, and I am whole heartedly saying that he’s only kind of a bad guy, the new bad guy that seriously needs to die is Charlotte and Bridgette’s dad. And I know this will sound mean, but Roman gave her mother a mercy killing because with the way these two have treated there kids, it’s just horrible!!!

I am all in for this one. I just love this series! I love the writing, I love the writing style, and I would love to know how Ms J’s brain comes up with these awesome ideas! I love it! Gimme Gimme Gimme more! Always! :) And warning, there’s always a cliff hanger LOL well played Ms J! 5 MAGNIFICENT NEW WORLD RESISTANCE PAWS!!!

Oh my! I just love a book whose plot gets thicker and richer, and Masked certainly is! I was blown away by the twists Janelle added to the story, it added so much rush and thrill, I have to admit I was on an edge from beginning to end. Plus, I very much enjoyed the unexpectedness of it all. I honestly loved this book more than the first one, if that is possible, because the storyline got better, like really good! I just can’t wait for the next installment.

I mentioned this in the review of the first book, Switch, but Janelle’s ability to bring characters to life is superb! I don’t know how she does it, but her characters are so complex and tridimensional. Nothing is black and white, and they definitely prove that you have to know a person, their backgrounds and personal history to understand why they are the way they are. In this book we get to know more about some of the villains, who are so well portrait as a person that is hard not to care for them, and it was great to understand how they came to be, and what got them there. So, because of their complexity you definitely feel for all of them. Except for Douglas Hatcher, he is just despicable, worse than ever! I thoroughly enjoyed the addition of some new characters, like Missy. She was a breeze among all the tough characters, and I’m really looking forward to get to know her better in the next installment. Roman and Bridgette’s love story was lovely to witness. I felt like their romance was built up in a much smoother and slow paced way than Charlotte and Pete’s, even though I loved their story too, and it took its time to develop. It was sweet and hot and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The book, as the first one, is told from different points of view. Mainly from Bridgette, Roman and Charlotte’s but on occasion we get some other characters point of view. I feel it adds so much to the story. It is done spectacularly! I never got confused with who was speaking, and it helped a lot to get what was really going on. Like putting together the pieces of a puzzle. Plus, it helps you get to know and involve with the different characters, which I already told you, are so relatable to.

The writing is smooth, and the story is very past faced. There is no time for boredom, and you get sucked into the plot from the beginning.

Overall, the writing and storytelling is brilliant! You get thrown straight into the action, and the romance is knee weakening. The story is thrilling and unexpected and it will leave you definitely wanting more.

First I would like to thank the author for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Doing so does not sway my review in any way. Honesty is the best policy.

I was thrilled when the author asked if I'd like to be part of her blog tour. I had won the first book, Switch, from a blog tour giveaway and loved it right from the beginning. I was itching to for the second book. Let me tell you, I devoured Masked. I didn't want to put it down!

This time around it's Bridgette's turn to shine. Charlotte and the crew are still around but the majority of this book revolves around Bridgette and Roman. The plot twists and turns had me glued to the story. The different layers of stories going on, separate than intermingling, going this way and that way was powerful. Where in Switch, Bridgette didn't seem like much of a player, in this book she is a powerhouse in more ways than one. In Switch you could see the softer side of Roman, but here you see the true man behind the uniform.

There are a few revelations in this book that Bridgette and Charlotte are hit with like a shovel. Heartbreaking but at least one of the issues seems to be forgiven and allowed to be put in the past. The characters that Janelle Stalder have created are strong, each in their own right, and are full of surprises. In Switch we were given the majority of the backstory to the NWO and how the world functions present day so there was more character study than situational definition.

I can't say that last time I was so impressed with a book. The writing is dramatic but without being overly so. The descriptions aren't as focused on, but not needed since it was done so well in Switch that you already could picture the scenery, clothing, etc. The emotions and feelings that come through the writing is staggering and breath taking. So much is focused on but balanced in just such a way that it all fits together perfectly like puzzle pieces.

This is a NA dystopian novel with its fair share of romance, suspense, thriller and anxiety. I recommend this book to ages 18+. Yes, there are sexual situations in this book but not to the extremes that many NA books have gone and not so much that it bores you. The sexual tension is amazing and you are reading to whoop out loud when the tension cracks and the crash of emotions and physical attraction kicks in full swing.

I look forward to the next book in this series, Tested, which brings us the story of Missy and Tyler who are just discovering a mutual attraction in Masked before a crisis struck.

I'm a huge fan of Janelle Stalder's books -- HUGE, HUGE, HUUUUGE fan girl here. Her gift for story-telling and the complexity of characters she creates is unmatched in today's market. In MASKED we pick up where the very incredible SWITCH left off (check out my SIX star review on my blog, Known to Read) and as a bonus we get to some of the events from SWITCH unfolding from Bridgette's point of view. I really liked seeing things through Bridgette's eyes. She's such a contrast from her sister and is so brave despite her vulnerability and inexperience. And then there's Roman ... happy sigh. He's a great character and a perfect hero for Bridgette. He's in a situation where he'd be viewed as the bad guy by so many, but truly has a good heart. One of the great thing about Stalder's writing is that her characters always have such depth and none are purely good nor evil. This is especially true of Ludwig. He's loathsome in so many ways, but we see a side to him in MASKED that makes you care for the guy and feel pretty sad for him as events unfold. Stalder's books always leave me feeling so conflicted, but in a good way.

Another amazing thing about Stalder's books is that she always has so much going on with a full cast of characters to love, hate or be unsure about. Despite the complexity of her stories, the reader never gets lost or confused. MASKED is another fabulous buffet of layered story lines with engaging characters of whom a reader just cannot get enough. I'm dying to see what happens next and how this all plays out. I can never figure out how Stalder will resolve her plot conflicts and am looking forward to more surprises, plot twist and tasty romance! Yay!!!

***I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.***

We met Bridgette and Roman in Switch. Bridgette is Charlotte’s sister and Roman the man who became her friend in the New World Order. When we left them all, Bridgette had to secret herself into the headquarters of the NWO and that’s where this particular story picks up. BUT their story actually STARTED in Switch. This story’s focal point is theirs, even though we still get details from Charlotte and Pete.

I really liked Bridgette and Roman. Though I tried not to like him because, duh!!! He did some pretty bad things, but at heart, he was a good guy. We still have multiple POVs in this book, like in last one. And honestly, the lines are so blurred on who’s a good guy and who’s a bad guy that I’m all confuzzled. BUT one thing is certain, Douglas has been evil in both books. We also meet a whole new host of characters. And most of them are women and most of them are awesome. They kind of remind me of Gail and her brood from Frank Miller’s Sin City. Only not as gritty. I FLOVED the bunch of them. I wished I could tell you what happened or my thoughts on it. BUT I can’t, to do so would give away too much from book 1 and this book. GAH!

Ms. Stalder’s world of tyrants and those trying to get out from under their thumb is really engrossing. This is the second book in 2 days that I’ve read and I have two more to read, and I can’t wait. Especially with that last little tidbit that Roman says at the end. EEP!!!!! I can’t wait, I CAN’T WAIT!!! I don’t know how I’ve never discovered her before now, but I’m ever so glad I finally have. So would I recommend this book? DUH!!! YEAH!!! I would also recommend this series!

Masked is book two in the New World series. It is a follow up of Switch – which I recommend be read first.

The two main characters in this book are Bridgette – Charlotte’s older sister and Roman – the New World Army leaders right had man.

Bridgette really comes into her own in this book. The former dancer who survived without her family for so many years, realizes that she isn’t as untouched by the continuing war as she thought. In Switch we saw her take the place of Weapon X. During this masquerade Bridgette develops her own special talent that sees her sought after as the new “weapon”.

Roman is a heartthrob. Just like McKay he has done many things in his life that he is not proud of and expects the two most important women in his life to hate him for it. The author portrays his character so well that you just can’t see him as the monster he is supposed to be. He is fiercely protective of Charlotte and Bridgette.

In a similar star-crossed lovers scenario as Switch, Bridgette and Roman’s relationship develops into some very steamy scenes.

We are also introduced to some more secondary characters. How refreshing that the new rebel group are wait for it… women! The characters are unique and individual. I couldn’t help but picture them in my mind as I read through the story because they were so well described.

This was a great second in the series read. The plot continues to develop and I can’t wait till book three is released.

Look out for book three in the series – Tested coming 2014.

Another great read in this series. I really liked the way the author continued on the same story that started in Switch right form where it left off, but now with a different main character. This book follows Bridget as she is forced to infiltrate NWO headquarters in order to save her sister from their power-hungry father. She quickly realises that posing as her sister behind the intimidating mask of 'Weapon X' is harder than it looks. To make matters worse her situation puts her in close proximity to Roman - the guy she seems to be overwhelmingly attracted to and can't stop thinking about. The story moves on from there as Roman and Bridget grow closer, secrets are uncovered, and loyalties are tested. I liked the way the book told Bridget and Roman's story while still keeping up with the other characters introduced in the first book of the series. I also liked the way the author has portrayed Ludwig's grey character: part ruthless dictator who destroyed a third of the world's population, but also somebody with some sort of heart that genuinely cares about both Roman and Charlotte. He doesn't strike me as the true villain of the story the way Bridget and Charlotte's father does. I also liked how there was more detail given about how special abilities were developed. I'm excited to learn where that sci-fi aspect of the story will go next. Overall - a really great read that I think I enjoyed even more than the first book in the series. I'd recommend picking this series up if you're looking for a good dysotopian romance series that is well-written and quick to read.

Wow this book had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next,

I was asked for my honest opinion on Masked by the author and here it is

In true Janelle style the story line was intoxicating, and moments absolutely knocked the breath right out of me.

Charlotte and McKay did not play as big a part in this episode, but they were there and their presents felt, as were a few new additional characters in the mix.

This adventure was all Bridgette and Roman, and I fell in love with Roman and Bridgette as an item and although there were going to be rocks in the situation from the get go, it was inevitable that they would end up having a future.

He helped to keep Bridgette's secret through and solid and although he had the power to totally rubbish her well kept plans he kept quiet, and this is where his character really began to intensify

There was intensity, amazement, thrill, suspense, romance, great scenes and an unforgettable story, I cannot wait for more.

This book could definitely not be read as a standalone it must be read in order otherwise you will not of had the background knowledge from Switch, which is imperative to the story.

Well done Janelle this is another 5 star book.
