Since I wrote it, I can't help but think it is an inspirational story about a confused teenager who went to work at a very early age and quit school in the 11th grade to bum around a while before dodging the Vietnam War by joining the U.S. Coast Guard. He literally grew up in the Coast Guard, with older, wiser leaders to mold and shape him despite his self-destructive tendencies. He encountered many obstacles along his pathway to success. He had a disastrous first marriage to a girl who could not accept the restrictions of marriage and continued to run back to her mother after she had her fill of the boring, humdrum life of a married person who had no skills to offer. The young man loved her deeply and took the bonds of matrimony seriously, so he tried over and over through the years, including divorce and remarriage. In the end, the marriage was finally declared over, and the healing process began. As is always the case, the losers were the two young children. Through it all, the young coastguardsman continued his self-improvement efforts, attending some highly technical schools in electronics and marching upward through the ranks. While he was attending his first two-year college course, he met the woman who would provide the necessary anchor and stability that enabled him to blossom. The sad part of this story is that the woman was the wife of a fellow coastguardsman with three small children. As in a lifetime, the seas are not always without whitecaps and must be navigated cautiously. The young man, now mature, is, by the grace of God, able to overcome impossible odds and surmount the challenges. He continues to excel at the game and maximize every opportunity that is presented. Throughout the travails of his life, he is aided by sometimes seen, other times unseen, forces that can only be seen as divine. Upon completing his twenty-eight years of Coast Guard service, the now middle-aged man easily transitions into the commercial workforce, utilizing the skills previously learned.
Here is where, as the author, I can provide insight beyond the book's ending. I have just finished writing Part IV - Retirement Years, which will be included in the book shortly. It has just completed the final review process at the publisher's and will be available soon. This part of the story demonstrates how the Lord, through his Agents, works his will. The book will culminate following the death of the man's inspirational other half (my wife Marie) in 2021. I hope the reader enjoys the experience as much as I did living it.
