Have you ever been in one of those relationships where you love the person no matter how much they hurt you? They leave scars. Permanent, ugly ones that my naive self didn’t see coming. One day it all went wrong. He hurt me and left me more guarded and closed off to the only thing I’ve ever craved. Love. I’ve always been good at hiding my pain, being closed off to the world. I don’t let anyone see the scars from my past or my present. Until Rhett saw them. And yet he still wanted to be my friend. Despite my damaged heart. When Rhett helps me find my happiness again with surf lessons, volunteering at the local orphanage, movie marathons, road trips, and lots of laughter, I start to feel things I never thought I would. Yet he insists on keeping things platonic leaving me with the proven fact that love isn’t real. I’d be stupid to open my heart up again. As graduation looms near, Rhett is headed back home to Florida and I’m stuck here in California. Leaving us right where we started. Nothing more than just friends.

Delicate is the last book in the Sierra Cove series and marks the end of an epic journey of growth for all the characters. Rhett and Maia's story is sweet, heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Maia's need of love and affection is keeping her prisoner in a toxic relationship where love is one sided and she slowly loses herself. She's confused and unsure what's really happening. Rhett is feeling a little left out in his friends circle and in his family since everyone is in a relationship and his brother is getting married. At such fragile emotional state Maia and Rhett elevate their friendship and find out that they have so much in common. Rhett is there to support and defend Maia when she needs help getting out of her toxic relationship and is mending her broken heart. Rhett is guarding his heart and doesn't intend to give it away even to Maia. Because he's going back home after graduation and Sierra Cove is the only home Maia knows. And after a road trip to Rhett's hometown the lines are blurred and their relationship changes but they are confused and uncertain. And after a few months of separation and a help from medling family and friends Rhett is facing his insecurities and apologize to Maia . And with a little groveling he's forgiven. That epilogue was full of so much hope and love and new beginnings. And sometimes you can still have the plan or the dream for your life and the person you love by simply expanding that dream. I loved it that at the end Maia got the love and the big family that she dreamed of and Rhett still has his best friend by his side and didn't left his love behind.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.
Lyssa Cole has once again worked her creative magic and brought us the last book of this series. This story is told in dual first person POV and leaves you with a HEA. This book can be read as a standalone, but honestly….you just need to read the whole series!!!
My heart broke for Maia. Growing up an orphan and not having a family, she found herself in love for the first time and starting the cycle of a toxic relationship. My heart went out to Rhett as well. Growing up in a big family, he felt overlooked most of the time.
I loved that Rhett and Maia finally had a chance to hang out together and really get to know each other outside of their group of friends. Rhett was so sweet, swoon inducing with his love of children and romantic gestures, and hilariously funny and scared of Horror movies. I loved that he jumped at the chance to experience Maia’s passion for helping at an orphanage and supporting her hobbies.
I loved that Maia took an interest in Rhett’s passion of surfing and wanted to learn. She was amazing with kids, knew how to take Rhett’s jokes and could match his hilarity with her own, and was hilariously obsessed with Horror movies. I loved that she clicked with his family from the start and finally got out of her toxic relationship before it was too late.
It’s bittersweet to see this series end, but I know it won’t be long before Lyssa Cole has us on our next heartbreak and repairing adventure. I was provided an advanced readers copy. These thoughts and opinions are my own.
Final Sierra Cove Maia’s is desperate for love and to belong but as an orphan has no sense of belonging. She is blind to her boyfriend, Alex’s, faults and doesn’t recognise her relationship with him is abusive. When her rose-coloured glasses come off, Rhett is there to help pick up the pieces. However, he is determined to remain as friends only as he’s going back home after graduation. A road trip, blurred lines and heartbreak caused my heart to crack. It was so easy to see how these two were meant to be, but it took them some time to figure it out. Sweet and swoony with some spice and humour, but an emotional roller coaster as well. With a beautiful HEA, these two people find love, family and the meaning of belonging. I loved this book and all the other Sierra Cove couples, I’m sad to see the end. This whole series is a beautiful, emotional roller coaster. This group of friends have endured tragedy, loss and grief. Finding themselves and love along the road of recovery. Read it. In fact read them all.
Maia is kind and sweet but her past has schooled her to build walls to not let anyone too close. The exception being an a-hole who deceived her into thinking they had something special. Her past has her desperate to have someone who thinks she is special but her failure to see him for who he is and letting him keep reeling her in had me frustrated beyond reason even as I sympathized for her in her need to belong. Rhett is also kind and sweet but he is not looking for a relationship beyond friends and his struggles with his feelings for her leads to moments of stupidity even as he feels protective of her. The journey Maia travels to find love of family, friends and that special guy who makes her feel all the things is filled with laughter, tears, spice and romance. Her realizing her worth through that love is priceless.
Maia's scars run so deep. Growing up in an orphanage, never really having a family and not really knowing what love is. People will take advantage of that. The way this story was written was a good depiction of how people stay in a relationship that's not working. It gave insight I hadn't thought about. How they come out on the other side is always a work in progress but I know Maia and Rhett will be there to help her along.
This is such a heartachingly beautiful romance. I really don't think anything I can think of to say will prepare you for Maia and Rhett and all the feelings these two are going to send your way. I will say that my emotions were everywhere as I read this story. From tears and sympathy to anger and swoon, you'll experience it all.
Be prepared to have your emotions all over the place. This story was so beautifully written as it follows Rhett and Maia as their relationship forms from friends to lovers. Maia is in a relationship with Alex and even though friends see past his facade, she defends him and continues to stay. Until his true ugliness surfaces. Rhett is a true friend and is there to help her through it all. He hopes she will get the courage to walk away and open her eyes to something more, something better, with him. These two together is truly something wonderful. Rhett is so protective of Maia. And the time they spend together is so special. When they finally give in to their attraction, it is just so passionate. Loved this story!
This story about Maia and Rhett is a real show if friendship and where it can lead. Together they have so much fun getting to know each other and are so perfectly suited together. I loved how Rhett wanted to help Maia with her volunteer work and teach her to surf. I loved how his family instantly took a liking to her and made her feel at home. This was another great read in the Sierra Cove series.
DELICATE is the sixth instalment in Lyssa Cole’s contemporary, new adult SIERRA COVE erotic, romance series. This is college seniors Rhett and Maia’s story line. DELICATE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers
Told from dual first person perspectives (Rhett and Maia) DELICATE follows the building romance and relationship between our story line couple. Maia is in a committed relationship with her boyfriend Alex but all is not well in romance land. Alex is controlling and emotionally abusive, and when Maia is befriended by fellow student and local surfer Rhett, Alex sees red. Refusing to see the real Alex, Maia continues to defend the young man with whom she claims to love until Maia sees beyond the façade, and the monster within. With Rhett by her side as emotional support, Maia walks away, and with a new direction, sees a little more clearly what was happening around her. What ensues is the building relationship between Maia and Rhett, and the potential fall-out when a trip to Florida reveals a friendship that turns into something more.
The worlding building focuses on controlling relationships, struggles to be free, new found friendships, miscommunication and misunderstanding.
The relationship between Rhett and Maia begins as friends in which Rhett see more than Maia refuses to admit. Always the protector, Rhett is often caught in the middle of Maia’s relationship fall-out but Rhett is hoping for something more from a woman who is struggling to walk away. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.
Several of the previous story line characters and couples return in secondary and supporting roles including Holden and Lennox, Everleigh and Landon. We are introduced to Rhett’s large extended family, as well as Maia’s soon to be ex boyfriend Alex.
DELICATE is a story of power and control, emotional abuse, secrets and lies, friendships and relationships, acceptance and love. The premise is dramatic and emotional; the romance is seductive; the characters are determined and animated but our heroine is slightly immature.
Such a chill, fun, and sweet read! The whole book carries a kind of laid-back vibe, Rhett and Maia are the cutest as they struggle between that friends or more line, and how much fun they always seem to have together feels infectious. It has a few more serious points in the storyline, Maia’s ex-boyfriend being the main one, but even then, having Rhett in the picture somehow makes it feel like it’ll be just fine. Maia thought she had a great relationship but what was once flowers and dinner has turned into criticism and fights. Him getting right in her face, a look in his eyes she’s never seen before, it’s enough to have her ending things before it gets any worse. Just add these emotional scars to the ones she’s already collected from being raised in an orphanage. Thanks god she has Rhett, her surfing instructor/closest friend. He’s everything she needs right now, surfing with him, volunteering with him, it’s helping her get over her heartbreak. With graduation looming over their heads and Rhett going back to Florida while she stays in California, it’s the absolute worst time to realize that she’s ready to find love again, and she doesn’t have to look to far because the man she’s willing to give her heart to, is always right next to her. But to let Rhett go back to Florida happy, she’ll stick to the plan, they’ll stay just friends, even though it’ll break her heart all over. Really adorable, like the whole book! Rhett and Maia just click, both in the friends and the lover’s department. They have zero problems making fun of each other, take pleasure in a little friendly torture, and really want the other to be happy. A genuinely fun friends to lovers read!
The final book in the series and Lyssa really send us on an emotional roller-coaster. My goodness this book was sweet, funny and really hurt at times. I love Rhett and this was his and Maia's story. Maia grew in the system and has never belonged or felt loved. So when she finds her boyfriend Alex, he is perfect and she thought he loved her. So desperate for that connection she is blind to his manipulative and controlling behaviour. I would say I disliked her for constantly ignoring her friends and supporting him, but then when one is in an abusive relationship it's hard to leave. Eventually things get clearer and her new found friend Rhett is there to help and protect her. Rhett was amazing with Maia. He was going to be the best friend she needs as not worth getting into a relationship because he is leaving after graduation. I loved how Rhett built up Maia's confidence and brought joy back into her life. Loved their sarcasm and witty banter. Despite neither wanting a relationship their feelings grow. The chemistry was flying all over them both, there was some spice. Can Rhett look passed his plans and let his heart win? Can Maia trust to give her heart away without being hurt again? Read and discover what happens between the two. Loved his family and the fun banter they have at his brothers wedding. Lyssa has written a wonderful, emotional and great series. Can't wait to see what's next.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "DELICATE" What a heartwrench, emotional rollerciaster ride, so full of heartbreak, angst, steam, unrequited love, intrigue, frustration, hurt, humor, twists that keeps you turning the pages. Maia really pulls at the heartstrings what she's been through being raised in an orphanag, not knowing what love really is, being in a one sided toxic relationship she needs to get out of. Rhett saw the damage Maia had been through even though she tried up hide her pain, he still wanted to be her friend help her find happiness again but he put them in friend zone. Maia is heartbroken as graduation nears because Rhett will be retuning to California & she'll stay in Sierra Cove leaving them as only friends. Rhett has been feeling out of sorts from his friends & family his brother is getting married & being away from Maia & help from his family seeing his insecurities, he trys to appologize to Maia, will she forgive him. I definitely recommend to get this heartwarming romance you can't put down, will Maia & Rhett get their HEA, it's a must read to see how things turn out I thoroughly enjoyed their journey. AWESOME HEARTWRENCHING ROMANCE 🖤 🖤
Delicate in title and delicate in life. There are 3 characters in this storyline..Maia, who grew up within the care system and carries the emotional scars some children suffer from it, Alex, her abusive and manipulative boyfriend, Rhett, her friend who sees a lot. A friends to lovers relationship. The story tells of a developing friendship between Maia and Rhett which is originally platonic. Alex's behaviours towards this is concerning, but she fails to see it and despite Rhett's efforts, she constantly mistakes controlling for love. Rhett continues to support Maia, whilst trying to emotionally keep a distance between them, creating events for her to begin to experience something better and enjoy. How the characters deal with their emotions and feelings is well described and balanced, beneath the genuine attraction, there is insecurity, sensitivity, frustration, fragility, a touch of humour and genuine friendship. The writer has produced an interesting series covering various aspects and events in dealing with what life throws at you before you reach understanding and happiness in achieving what you need or want.
This was good and a fitting way to end the series. We find our main female character Maia, hanging onto a toxic relationship, one in which her partner has no respect for her. Having grown up in an orphanage, she’s almost desperately looking for love and a sense of family. She does finally put him in the rear view as the blossoming friendship with Rhett shows her what she deserves from a relationship. They initially keep theirs in the friendzone considering they will be on opposite coasts after graduation. But a trip to Rhett's family home shows her the love of a family, and them, what could be between the two of them. While it takes them a while to embrace the love they have for the other, they get there in the end. I found the language and flow of words a little stilted in the beginning but got into the rhythm and found the reading easy enough. Just a little thing but I really noticed a lot of swearing towards the end, it seemed gratuitous, I didn't notice it anywhere else as being out of place. Overall, a reasonably good read.
Due to her past the one thing that Maia has always wanted was someone to love and who would be there for her. She though she found that in her boyfriend until she the realizes that the truth could not be more different. It is only through the support of her friend Rhett that she managed to pick up the pieces and heal however now he is starting to feel like more than a friend and their futures are leading them in different directions.
Rhett may have his reservations about love, but he wants to be there for Maia as she goes through a very difficult time in her life. He does not want to break both their hearts so a friendship is all they can share as anything between them would have an expiry date.
Rhett and Maia were made for each other as they take us on a journey filled with humor and emotion as they realize that what really matters is love and the right person and everything else will fall into place.
Maia and Rhett’s story evokes so many emotions and reactions. It is an insightful story about relationships and found family. Maia grew up in an orphanage and longs to have love and connection in her life. To that end, she accepts Alex into her life, believing he will be the one to give her the love she craves. Instead, he is emotionally abusive and controlling, though she refuses to acknowledge it or leave the relationship. Others see what happening, including Rhett who can’t stand to see Maia involved with someone who deliberately sets out to wound and control her. His protectiveness leads him to offer Maia his support and friendship. With his help, Maia finally sees Alex for who and what he is, and that she is indeed worthy of love. She realizes that she wants more than just friendship with Rhett, but he is set on keeping their relationship platonic. Rhett persuades her to take a cross country road trip with him to visit his family during the Christmas holidays. The trip leads to a shift in their relationship, one that could change everything between them, for better or worse.
This book was a riveting read, hard to put down and memorable. I enjoyed reading it and the previous books in this series. I highly recommend reading the whole series of books.
Made Whole The crew is working on their senior year of college and it seems that everything is changing. Maia met a guy, Alex, and he seems too good to be true which should have tipped her off. First Love seems to sneak up on you and Maia is in that exact position. She can’t see what her friends see until it’s almost too late. Rhett has watched from afar until he just can’t anymore. Will his protective instincts cause problems for the friends or will it start something more? Volunteering at the orphanage, doing schoolwork and trying to get her life back in order seems to be all that Maia can do until Florida happens. Grab the book and get ready to experience a gamut of emotions in this amazing book.
I enjoyed reading about the orphan Maia, an introvert who meets Rhett. He befriends her and slowly their interests join. He teaches her his great joy, surfing. She invites him to come with her to the orphanage where she is interning. But what really sealed their friendship was their cross-country road trip from northern California to south Florida for his brother's Christmas wedding. Maia was a great hit with Rhett's younger sisters and was welcomed by his whole family. Recommended.
Rhett and Maia's story was so good and I couldn't put it down. Maia's past helped keep her stuck in a horrible relationship but could Rhett's friendship and sweetness make her see she deserves better? Lots of emotions in this book. A wonderful read and ending to a fantastic series.
Simply wonderful. Maia and Rhett's story will make you laugh, make you hurt and also make you want to throw your kindle at Alex's head. But in the end, Lyssa Cole takes her readers on an emotional journey of starting over and finally finding someone worthwhile to give your heart to.
This is the ending of a very amazing series. This story completely captures the story of this series and with all the couples involved. This is written beautifully.
