Ryck has proven himself as a warrior and a hero, but in times of peace, that can lead to trouble. Ryck's temper gets the best of him, and because of that, and with a heavy heart, he resigns his commission.
As an old enemy comes a-calling, a new threat surfaces, and Ryck's services are once again needed.
If he fails, all of humanity could be at risk.
Given a second chance to be the man that Humanity needs, Ryck answers the call, determined to make good. This new threat, however, might just be his most insurmountable yet.
I am a retired Marine colonel and now a full-time writer living in Colorado Springs with my wife, Kiwi, and infant twin daughters, Danika Dawn and Darika Marie.

Since then, I have been published in newspapers, magazines, and in book format in fiction, political science, business, military, sports, race relations, and personal relations fields. I returned to writing fiction in 2009, and I currently have over 85 titles published, 52 being novels. I have rather eclectic tastes. I have won awards in photography, cooking, wrting, and several sports, earning national championships in rugby and equestrian events. When I'm not writing, I'm reading, cooking, going to the gym, or traveling. I attend quite a few cons over the course of a year, and love meeting other people who love books.
I write because I love it. I only hope that others might read my work and get a bit of enjoyment or useful information out of my efforts.
As an author, I don't think it is fair for me to rate any other author's books here on Goodreads if that rating is less than five stars. I have certainly read many books that do not deserve five (or four, three, or even two). However, I will not rate any of those here while I am a Goodreads author. Consequently, I will only be listing books that I really like and feel deserve five stars.
IF YOU ARE INTO MILITARY SCI-FI HIS BOOK & SERIES IS FOR YOU.
FEDERATION MARINE 7: COLONEL by Jonathan P. Brazee, like always with is books are well written, and the characters are well defined. He'll keep you interested throughout the book with his twist and turns in the storyline. If a good action-packed, Sci-Fi Military thriller that the series starts out as a young man and his siblings working his small family farm to this young man enlisting into the Federation Marines to serve and protect the known galaxy form different forms of evil as well as providing for himself at the beginning to being able to provide for his family, this series is for you.
I'll have to say, it's really nice to come across an author that uses footnotes in his works to help those (myself included) with all the military and sci-fi acronyms so you don't have to set the book down and look up the acronyms or term used. It really helps with the flow of reading Jonathan's works.
I really have enjoyed this book as well as the previous books in this series and I really can't wait to read the next installment in this series and I hope you'll find yourself feeling the same as well.
What a career! And it almost ends on a sour note! Lieutenant Colonel Ryck Lysander, UFMC, signed his resignation from the United Federation Marine Corps when unloaded a punch square on the jaw of the Commandant of the Marine Corps! You don’t read about that happening every day!
Lysander, as you’ll remember, was the commander of a battalion sent in to do a job which was not suited for the Rangers. He had argued with his superiors long and hard that they were using the wrong troops, but it did nothing but antagonize his superiors; especially the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The mission went forward and Lysander wound up leading the Brigade when his friend, mentor and Boss, was buried under tons of rubble. Under Lysander’s leadership, the Rangers won the day, but he lost a lot of men.
So when the after action reports were written up, his was decidedly different than what the top brass wanted to see. Even when it came time to review the actions before a board, Lysander continues to argue against the position held by the Marine Corps Commandant. One thing led to another and in particular a certain bar, where both Lysander and the Commandant were clearly under the influence, and something was said by the Commandant. The next thing anyone saw, was the Commandant of the Marine Corps lying unconscious on the floor. Rick calmly went back to drinking his beer.
So, that’s how this book starts. Yeah, Lysander is a Lieutenant Colonel with a seemly short, very short career ahead of him. But, things have a way of turning out much different than you would think, especially for usual guys like Lysander. He’s got a charmed life, that’s for sure!
It seems the Trinoculars, which the United Federation Marine Corp fought with Lysander in the lead, won a steady peace of sorts. The Trinoculars had drawn a line in space, “The Blue Line”, which marked their territory versus Federation territory. No one was to cross the line without permission. But, the Trinoculars had somehow captured a movie showing Lieutenant Colonel Rick Lysander as the hero of the war and a mighty warrior. They asked for him to come meet with them not telling anyone their reasons.
So, Lysander has a wonderful turn around in his almost destroyed Federation Marine Corps career. You have to read the book to find out what happened. Stuff like this is pure fantasy and that’s just too darn bad.
If you’ve been in the military, these books bring back memories of the deep camaraderie you shared with a bunch of other guys and gals who shared a common situation. I liked that feeling of belonging to something larger than just you. This book deals with some of those feelings. I really enjoy the writing. The editing is excellent and I especially like the absolutely natural and common place slang used through the book. There is a language only know to military personnel and it comes through in this and all Colonel Brazee’s books.
Please start at the beginning of the series with “Recruit (United Federation Marine Corps, 1)” if you really want an exciting and great military science fiction read. You won’t be disappointed.
Oh, yeah. I was afraid that this would be the last book in the series, but it doesn’t appear so. I think there’s going to be one more book. That’s great, but I’m really sorry to see the series end.
In the novel Colonel, United Federation Marine Corps by Jonathan Brazee, we find Ryck Lysander as a marine who has finally come to terms with himself and his position. Lysander has turned into a great leader, explained by details in the story. This seventh installment in the series is a great read, consistent with the overall arc of the storyline and growth of the character. It keeps your attention from beginning to end.
From Lysander’s humble beginnings, his joining to the brotherhood, his growth through epic battles, facing his own mortality, and his acknowledgement of approaching retirement is delivered with a vividness and gravity not seen in a lot of military fiction.
After striking a superior officer in a bar, Ryck is forced to resign his commission. But when the Capys come asking for help they insist on dealing only with Col. Lysander. Their worlds are being attacked and wiped out by another alien race called the Klethos. Ryck is reinstated into the Corps and off to a Capy world to assist in defeating the thirteen foot tall dino-bird looking creatures who are scything their way through the locals. After battling the Klethos on multiple Capy worlds the enemy brings the fight to humanity. This story could have gone many directions. Ryck was lost in civilian life and after going back to the Corps he finds out he has symptoms of a condition that could lead to his death
As the protagonist has been promoted via the series, I was curious how he still would be participating in actual combat. He does in this book in spectacular fashion.
This book has interesting alien aliens.
I'm waiting for the next book - the enemy from this book has been slowed down - but winning in the log run is a problem. I'm referring to the alien enemy here. Politics and a fascist state are other problems that become more apparent as the protagonist gets promoted. And generals work with politics more than lower ranks.
As we saw in the closing of the last book, after Ryck broke the jaw of the “Chairborne” General who utterly refused to acknowledge the massive losses forced upon the Marine Raiders to “prove” his pet theory that their light infantry could defeat mechanized infantry accompanied by armor & artillery. The 75%+ loss rate was deemed acceptable even though there were better equipped units available.
We will have to see how things develop before deciding whether the Federation is morally bankrupt or not.
Ryck Lysander and the United Federation Marine Corps
A warrior. A man with strengths and weaknesses serving his government even though it is flawed, much like ours. A faithful husband and father. A man who loves his fellow soldiers. A warrior with a gift at doing what must be done, no matter the cost.
Another excellent installment in the Lysander series. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure. Massive battles against strange aliens and back stabbing politicians. I look forward to more from this author
Well I thought his beans were cooked lol with the brick pity we cannot do something like that now.. It has been a fantastic storyline well thought out and now they need to train as Gladiators too a Marines lot is never done. Well worth 5 stars
This story continues the saga and incorporates all of the things Ryck has learned on his rise through the Corps. He has become a great leader and this story details it. A great read.
Always something interesting coming which makes it hard to put it down. Carries the key characters through each of the books yet allows each book to be stand alone.
Alien intervention is the answer. But only because they are getting their butts kicked by someone else. So bring in the person responsible for their last butt kicking to assist fighting their newest battles.
Syfy and reasonably accurate military culture combined with plenty of action rates this book 5 stars even at full price.
Most of us aspire to be decisive and selfless leaders with high moral character. The author shows us in his main characters, who we’d like to be while in his less savory characters we see who we could easily become if we lose our way.
The effects of needless death and the unavoidable loss of civilians should be remembered as we readers sit in our comfortable armchairs imagining the action. It is fun to read about, but the reality is moments of action with heavy mental and physical stresses followed by periods of reflection and anxiety.
Nonetheless, it is a wonderful series of stories. Very highly recommend.
For those who have followed Ryk Lysander from the beginning, it was no surprise that there would be more great action in this volume. Jonathan Brazee does not disappoint in this story with a sudden turn of events and some new nasties to overcome. Great story, well written lots of un to read. Carry on Mr Brazee!
This is a great story to read. Military action, Sci-Fi technology and engrossing descriptions of characters and their thoughts. Very well written series!
It takes a Marine Colonel to depict the Marine ethos, brotherhood, sense of humor and most of concept of honor. Too few sci-fi novels even recognize honor, duty, loyalty.
Keeps you waiting for the next book they read so well I open my iPad and start reading and time disappears then it’s omg no more story. Where’s my next one 😘😄
