“Lola Taylor” is a pen name created for the romances I can’t show my grandma without blushing. My favorite genre to write is romantic suspense, usually involving hot werewolves, warlocks, or any other type of paranormal creature. Keep the action hot and the romance hotter—that’s my motto! I’m a horror film junkie, I still love Halloween as an adult (seriously, I think I get more excited for it than some kids do), and what precious spare time I have is spent with my family, reading (everything from sci fi to middle grade), playing the flute, painting pretty pictures, or screwing around on Pinterest or Etsy. Hailing from the South, I currently live in the Midwest with five fur babies and my hubby. You can connect with me on Facebook , Google +, Pinterest, or my email (lolawritespnr@gmail.com). Next book in line in my quest to clear my thousands of unread books' backlog, Fever was one of those free books I grabbed at some point.
What the .... it started so well only to crash so spectacularly. I *wanted* to read about destined mates finding their mate. I wanted to read a werewolf story. But I also wanted a good story where the plot runs smoothly and isn't rushed.
Well, I got destined mates and werewolves, but I didn't get a smooth unrushed story. Danica and Gage had SO MUCH going on in such a short time (and page count) that even I couldn't really root for the relationship or feel bad about any of the traitors or deaths.
Danica is supposed to meet her date at a bar but the guy never shows up. There are a lot of guys in the bar but none of them come up to her even though they check her out so she decides to leave. That's when her date steps out of the shadows and tries to kill her. But Gage, one of the guys from the bar steps in and saves her.
Gage notices the human in the bar but he doesn't have time for a human right now since he has very little time to find his mate. Gage is a werewolf shifter and he thinks that his mate would also be a werewolf shifter but when he saves Danica, he gets the surprise of his life. A human is his mate and her life just became crazy.
At first Danica thinks she's been drugged because some of the things she's just witnessed can't possibly be true. After a little time getting her bearings back at Gage's house, she comes to the realization that it's not a hallucination and her life will never be the same. Gage has to find the crazy shifter that is trying to kill his mate but getting to him brings them both face to face with a lot of danger. The danger doesn't stop them from lusting after each other after the mate marks appear on both of them though.
Gage and his pack are great but there seemed to be a lot of drama going on. They don't really trust Gage to be their alpha because of their last alpha and that causes some problems. Plus the fact that they have to follow some kind of ritual mating ceremony where they have to mate (have sex) in front of the entire pack was a bit weird to me. And she didn't even put up any kind of fight about it. After freaking out at first she just kinda takes everything ok after that which really didn't seem like her personality at all.
I liked the story premise and most of the story was good but parts of it didn't work for me.
This book following Danica and Gage. She is human, he is an alpha werewolf and they are mates. Danica is a loner and recently just got heartbroken by her ex Sett who she mentions a lot. So to get over her heartbreak she chooses to go on a blind date with somebody she meets through a dating site. Of course, she is not that lucky because he tried to kill her but again she got rescued by Gage who is her mate. He needs to get mated fast. He is in his mating fever and if he doesn't mate he will lose his pack. Danica thought she is drugged or sleeping with all of the things happening and that part was funny because how is this all happening must be a dream or something it's not real. Hate to break it to you but it is. We found a little bit about the underworld and what kind of supernatural beings are there in the world. Not a lot but little for this short book. We read about the pack and how it's new and it's not all sunshine and trusting to death kind of deal in this pack with just new alpha. There are mysteries in a story like how did they know about Danica and who wants to hurt Gage and her. We found about that little and I get it it's series that can't do all of the mystery in one short book. I am glad they didn't because it's already fast-paced.
Gage was just so damn hot I needed to change my panties a few times, "it means," Gage said, pulling her to him and staring down into her eyes, "that you are my mate." Danica is just too adorable she's obviously knew to the werewolf world and has no clue what is going on and automatically assumes that is has something to do with her, "Danica nearly growled from frustration. "How? How is that surprising? Is she talking about the type of conditioner I use? It is surprising it works so well, being as cheap as it is." Gage sighed and rubbed his temples." I loved how Gage approved of Danica without even trying, "she moaned, nipping at his lip, and he chuckled. "You're demanding," he said. "Good. My mate needs to be." I liked reading this book it was a quick read.
I love shifter romances, well I like romance in all forms but I particularly like a good paranormal romance but I'm not sure this one fits the bill. It started well and I liked the characters but then it felt rushed a lot of the time and if I'm being honest it was a bit predictable and for me there was just too much crammed into a short book, wolves, yes witches, yes but then all the rest, it was too much and I think that's why it felt rushed. Will I be reading the next book...no I don't think so, I'm being very selective now since I'm locked into so many series and this one didn't really have anything new or outstanding.
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for honest review.**
When a date-gone-wrong turns into an eternal mating... with a werewolf!
Danica is ready to put herself back out there into the wild world of dating after a painful breakup left her wary of relationships. Her first attempt at online dating leads her to a shady bar where her date is a no-show. Fortunately, there is another in attendance and he is everything her naughty mind could dream of. It's just too bad that she thinks she's dreaming...
Gage is running out of time. His position as packmaster is in danger unless he finds his mate--and fast. But every she-wolf he has encountered has left him yearning for another. When he spots a woman in the bar, she couldn't look any more out of place. Yet, something else draws him to the human. A simple touch of his hand reveals that his destined mate is unlike anything he ever imagined.
But Gage isn't the only one with his sights set on Danica. And once Gage's nemesis discovers the bond between the couple, any chance of romancing his mate goes out the window. Keeping her safe becomes just as difficult as explaining the fact that she is about to turn into a werewolf, whether she wants to or not.
While I loved this story, I am sad that it was so short. I wanted more and could have definitely enjoyed another hundred pages of Gage and Danica's budding relationship. I found the paranormal world that the author created to be fascinating and I would absolutely love to read more about it.
The only hitch, and reason for my half-sun deduction, is the ending. I won't give anything away but after so much anticipation for the mating ritual, I was a bit perplexed to see the way it was done. I really hoped for a long and steamy interaction. But what we did get was certainly spicy!
In closing... I am anxious to see what else this author has to offer. 4.5 suns!
Seems like every time I read one of these books, the authors manage to think up something new. This one was really good and the author did a great on with the characters and the story. I am looking forward to reading the second one.
This book was very fast paced & intense, but it was to short of a book for all that came about. Don't get me wrong, I loved the book and it is a five star book for me, but I feel like it was missing something other than a few more chapters.
Wow, great story! Werewolves, witches, Fairies, etc... This book covers it all. I was pleasantly surprised. Although, I will say, I wish it hadn't ended the way it did. I like a more definite ending. Now I will have to read another book to see what else is happening.
Darkness tries to take out a pair before they can mate. Betrayal by one of there own. Attempts on their lives and deaths of fellow pack mates all combine together for a fast paced tale of magic and mating fever.
The author took one of my biggest fears and turned it into the most amazing opening scene to a book! The online dating fiasco couldn’t have been a better introduction to the main characters and set the entire tone of the story. I love the characters! Their connection was immediate, and the fact she thought someone slipped her a roofie just added humor to such an intense moment. The author kept the intensity throughout with danger, betrayal, intrigue, and was that a touch of zombies? The HEA is a hard fought battle, but even sweeter because of them. And that’s just book one! I can’t wait to read what happens in book two, I just know it’s going to be fantastic!
There was some really good quotes in this book. Parts were really raw and personal but most of the book did not follow. Overall the characters were very 2D and needed a bit more depth and feeling. Also the female lead that happily just went along with a kidnapping... can she have a little personality please.
Danica goes to a bar to meet a date but he stands her up. As she’s about to leave she sees Gage, a very handsome man. She goes outside and is attacked, Gage rescues her and when he touches her a mating mark appears on her. Gage is the Alpha werewolf of his pack and has been looking for his mate before the Blood Moon or he loses his pack. He takes her back to the manor but she thinks she’s dreaming or has been drugged. Since she’s been marked she will be turned into a werewolf but Gage has to convince her first. Danica has never had anyone to really care about her or they have left her and she’s scared it will happen again. There are others out there who want her killed so she can’t mate with Gage but he’ll do anything to keep her safe. Really enjoyed the story and characters. It’s suspenseful, steamy and bloody. My first time reading this author and can’t wait to read the second in the series. A little cliffhanger.
3.5/5 stars. This book was fairly cute, to the point and very cheesy. It was very wattpad-esque, it definitely wasn't the best piece of literature I've ever read but I don't think it intends to be. The characters were interesting and quirky, and brought a new spin to the cliche werewolf alpha/mating style of story. The change of perspectives made the book seem a little all over the place, there wasn't much establishment between whether it was told more from Danica's point of view or Gage's, but it wasn't incredibly hard to follow as it did read easily. It was a little rushed, there wasn't much development, but I did purchase the next book to see where the story goes! They're short, cute, easy to read books which are definitely enjoyable, but not something to rave about.
This is a great paranormal read. It grabbed me from the start and I couldn’t put it down until the end. Gage is Pack Leader of the Moonstruck Clan of werewolves and has until the Blood Moon to find his mate or he will loose his pack. Danica is young human women who decides to try online dating and has just been stood up by her date. On her way out she is attacked by someone only to be saved by Gage. The attacker asks why his mate is unprotected before vanishing. Gage is shocked, but when he holds Danica by the wrist, he marks her as his mate. Now Gage has to protect his mate and explain all about werewolves, mating, changing witches and hopes she will stay with him.
This was a good one. I enjoyed it immensely. I do wish it were longer, if only for them to get to know each other better. She was thrown into all of this really quick, I felt like she didn't have time to fully process anything. It's like "being stood up on a date. Guy that stood me up wants to kill me and now I find out that I'm mated to a werewolf, which hahaha jokes on you they don't exist, but they actually do AND I'M FREAKING THE FUCK OUT!!!!" Lol this was a great one.
Not to often a book consumes me like this one did. I started reading this when I was going to laundry mat and pretty soon I was way to excited to do laundry, and I just had to finish it. This book is about Gage who is a werewolf who is looking for a mate when he finds her in a bar. Little does he know she is looking for a mate as well. He marks her and they have to do the deed under a blood moon to make it official. Dania is scared at first but falls in love fast with her wolf lover. I loved this I immediately made plans to read the second one.
I loved how when he first spotted Dannika in the bar and her supposes date had stood her up he didn't even know she was his mate . And even though when he figured it all out thanks to Onyx . He marked her and she thought she had been drugged he still wanted her to make the decision he wouldn't force her to stay and do things she didn't want can't wait to read the next one
Lola Taylor is one of my favorite authors. Every novel is fresh, with rich, deep characters and amazing twists within the plot, that you feel like you haven't read a good book in like "forever"!! Trust me, I have read paranormal romance and mystery books for years. Extraordinary talent.
A slightly different take on werewolves with some action and mayhem.
She's a human, he's a were, and whoops he knows they are mates once he touches her. It's not the way he expected his night to go, and within moments another were tries to kill her to prevent them from becoming mates. Murder and mayhem, kidnapping to killings, what more do you want.
"Fever: a Blood Moon Rising Werewolf Romance" by Lola Taylor is a wolf shifter romance and the first this reader has read from the writer. Characters were not fully developed, but developed enough to get an idea of those whose path we are traveling along - although this reader must admist alppha male Gage 'seemed' blonde in this reader's eyes and she was quite surprised when a reference to him being 'dark' later popped up. Protagonist Danica had her quirky moments that are giggle-worthy, and as she began to understand this new life that had been tossed at her, she began to show more spine, albeit often acting like a stereotypical somewhat spineless female for the most part. New packmaster Gage was shown to have heart, yet a pack that did not trust him - albeit due to their previous packmasters cruelty - and was not shown the respect deserved for his position. His pack refused to follow him without a direct alpha order, which goes against the grain of were shifter romances and wolves in general... they are pack animals and that is always an underlying theme in were shifter stories. Underdeveloped characters and traits that go against wolf temperament made it difficult for this reader to empathize for or with any character.
There were some minor spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, but not enough to toss one from the story. Settings were described well enough to easily visualize; dialogue between characters seemed authentic to each character. Taylor slipped into 'telling' versus 'showing' every now and then, but as this reader stated - she did show more than enough to visualize where we were traveling in the world she created, and enough character description to gain a rough idea of what each individual looked like... her wraiths were interesting! This reader found the beginning descriptions of the witches to be somewhat stereotypical, especially with the entire 'good versus evil' theme weaved into them. Taylor's voice was inviting and caught this reader quickly, yet she never truly fulfilled the promise of the story... this reader lost faith in the story teller and felt the tale did not live up to its earlier promise.
While the romance between Gage and Danica, a happily ever after (HEA) ending did happen, the book itself ended on a bit of a cliffhanger concerning an impending war and exactly who wanted to kill Danica. So, some major questions left unanswered... this reader truly dislikes cliffhanger endings when not warned or made aware of them in advance, so is deducting a star for that reason. Intimate moments started off fairly sensual between Gage and Danica, but to be fully mated at their mating ritual, they had to have sex in front of the entire pack. This reader isn't in to voyeurism but that wasn't the true issue... the scene was so rushed and glossed over, it was downright boring. This story had the potential of a four-star read, but midway that potential dropped and was never regained... while it is better than a two-star read, this reader felt a three-star Amazon and two-star Goodreads as well as a small recommendation would fit as an okay read.
Fever, book one in Blood Moon Rising Romance was a very easy to read novel by Lola Taylor that I read in under 3 hours. Which is not to say that the book was not entertaining. In fact, the story captured my attention on page one and kept me enthralled until I finished the very last word. The storyline is a familiar one where a werewolf king must find his queen by the time the Blood Moon sets or lose his pack. Surprise, surprise, his fated mate is human with no previous knowledge of magic, shifters and soul-mates. Yet, Lola Taylor adds her own creative touches to make this an oldie but goodie story. I found the king, Gage and his mate, Danica , to be very loveable characters. Lola has created the two into multi-dimensional beings in a very short time. Before the book was even to its midpoint I was rooting for Gage to win Danica's heart and vanquish the evil that was threatening their happily ever after. Lola Taylor crams a lot of action into Fever. The mission to protect Danica from evil forces is non-stop from beginning to end. Weather it is escaping evil wraiths or super werewolves, this story will have you on the edge of your seat. In between the action Lola sprinkles love scenes so hot they threaten to melt my Kindle! Lola uses multiple interruptions to ratchet up the sexual tension between the main characters. When the lovers finally are safe enough to consummate their love for each other Danica and Gage are not the only ones to finally breath a sigh of relief! My only complaint is one that many have heard from me in past reviews- cliffhangers! I HATE cliffhangers! I know they are necessary in epic fantasy series! And they certainly keep the fans immediately reaching for the next book, eager to determine what happens next. However, My to be read shelf is so full that by the time I get a chance to pick up the next in series, I will have forgotten most of the first book. I almost always have to re-read the previous book before I can enjoy the next. It is very distracting and frustrating. This ,however, is a personal problem and in no way should detract from another reader picking up this novel and purely enjoy It! See you soon at the next Blood Moon Rising!
New to this author and well its an ok read but I had a few issues with this book. For one thing an Alpha of a pack no matter how new he is deserves respect. This pack though? They had major distrust and I understand their previous Alpha was a bastard but still to not help go after his mate? Thats just a whole lot of disrespect there. When packs get attacked or go to war sometimes people die and they needed to realize that. He took complete responsibility for it but they needed to be a little more supportive. Those wolves who died during the Wraith attack knew what they were getting into and still went. It just goes against the grain of what I know about Alphas and packs and the hierarchy. I have read hundreds of books and this is the first time a pack has treated their alpha and his mate this way. Just seems wrong. Another issue I had was well their intimate moments. They got interrupted 3 times...once or twice even I can understand but 3? Thats pushing it and became annoying the 3rd time. Then when it came to actually mating? That left a lot to be desired. It was boring! The times they "almost" had sex was way hotter than their mating. Also, how the hell is she ok with having sex in front of all the pack? Its like oh by the way we gotta do the dirty in front of everyone and she's like oh ok. Now I have read books where that is the norm. Thats not what I mean. You would think she'd freak out a little. She was nervous of course but I'd be throwing a shit fit yo! The books I have read where they do the mating sex in front of the pack the female takes issue and freaks. Eventually gives in but come on! I really like how it started and I think my main issues were with about the middle of the book and on. A little disappointing BUT I enjoyed the story. This was free but I am not sure if I will be buying the rest of the series. Although its an ok read I'd really like to rate a 4 star in order to buy and this just wasnt a 4 star for me. I'm really on the fence about it. I very much enjoyed the characters Gage and Danica though. As characters they were written fairly well. Just need to be filled out a little more.
1.5 rounded up. Not bad, but not very good either. Definitely glad it was a free Kindle find.
Danica was pretty irritating, honestly. Not one of the strongest heroines I've read. For a pretty short story, she spent a lot of time thinking she was drunk or drugged, rather than starting to accept the new aspects of reality she's been introduced to. Plus, none of the other characters were really developed well. Lots of characters introduced, but none really felt fleshed out. A few were even killed, and Gage is upset about it, but as a reader, it didn't really make any impact. I've had more tears when a pet died in another story than when some of these named characters did.
Some things were pretty stereotypical for this genre, but then there were some points which go against type (wolves disobeying their Alpha?). A little jarring.
HEA for Danica and Gage, but the story itself is part of a larger story arc (involving *snort* Witch Mafia). So, not entirely standalone, if you're curious about how the Big Bad conspiracy gets sorted out.
Fast read, a quick distraction, but nothing really standing out. Not one I'd come back to, nor one I'd look for others in the series.
