A sure-fire hit for youngsters with older siblings.
A young child is playing with his toys at home. With each sound of a motor vehicle, he wonders if it is the bus. Each time he looks out the window, he is disappointed until finally, it is the school bus that brings his sister home.
Koponen's simple repetitive text is just the ticket for youngsters who miss their older sibling while they are at school. Digital (?) illustrations by Katie Mazeika are spot on. They are bright and colorful, filled with all kinds of things usually found in the house of a busy toddler, giving ample opportunity to build word vocabulary with the adult sharing the book with the child. Children will enjoy the guessing game, while adults will enjoy reading the loud sounds made by each vehicle.
This would be an excellent gift book for truck lovers to add to a home library.
I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
This sweet book is not only about identifying different vehicles, but also a celebration of siblings. I love how we get hints of each vehicle for little readers to guess what is coming next and, of course, I love that ultimately, the child is impatient for their sister to come home to play.
