Now a Maebown, and pitted against a swelling number of Fae siding with Ozara and the Alliance, Maggie is in more danger than ever—so is everything and everyone she cares about. The Alliance is on the move, forcing the original clans across the globe to choose between the enemy they know—Ozara—and an eighteen-year-old human they do not trust.
As the Alliance unleashes its insidious plans, creating havoc the world over, Maggie builds a coalition—the last, best chance to defeat Ozara—but the young Maebown must overcome centuries of distrust the original clans’ harbor for one another. Lines are drawn, sides are chosen, allegiances are galvanized, and friends are lost. Maggie returns to the Weald to force a final showdown.
THE MAEBOWN is the final book in the four-part epic fantasy series, Weald Fae Journals.
Christopher Shields lives in Northwest Arkansas with his family and three dogs. Following what he considers to be his calling, he is a professor of criminal justice at the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville. He loves working with students during the day, and writing at night. Christopher also enjoys spending time with his circle of close friends, playing his sax, and indulging his life-long passion for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
"The Maebown" by Christopher Shields is the final part of this beautiful fantasy series about young Maggie, whose personal journey takes her from being a steward in the first instalment through a sequence of personal growth to finally become a Maebown. The world of Fae has undergone serious changes and has re-grouped in a seriously threatening way, leaving Maggie and her allies to face a strong and overpowering Alliance of Seelies and Unseelies. The beginning of the story takes us from France to Germany, the beautiful alpine foothills near Austria (my place of birth, so forgive me being partial here) where it is decided to meet Ozara and the Alliance head on. Before that happens Maggie gets to learn the one last missing skills. It involves the recurring theme of controlling the elements, something that I particularly enjoyed and which comes to a wonderful conclusion in this novel. The clans need to regroup and accept the 'human' amongst their midst before the ultimate battle at the Weald to settle the fighting once and for all. Maggie is such a likeable, sweet protagonist whom it was a pleasure to watch growing up in the series. Shields has written fun and highly original characters with some great storylines. I don't read much fantasy but this series has been a real treat for me with its charm and endearing writing style. A wonderful tribute to magic, goodness and creativity.
I loved this series, I'm a little older than the average reader but I was hooked as soon as it begun. This last book didn't disappoint and I felt like I was stress reading through all the twists and turns. Again there was an incredible world that was described so well I could almost see every stone in the Weald. The fae didn't get any worse looking either...
All the relationships develop well and suit the fact that the characters are ageing ( yet still young) , only one thing that stood out as horrendously juvenile was deciding to go out for lunch with your mum when the end of the world is less than 24 hours away.
I don't want to give the end away but I was disappointed, I feel like preparation on our heroes part could have solved it but the author did a great job of tidying everything up for us. But oh, how I wish the ending was different.
Loved it. The final book! It was great. Much more battles and strategy, so if that isn't your thing you may think it is a little boring in places. I actually like that stuff. The characters have held their own through the whole series. I still love the main character. A strong young woman, less that perfect, with a fierce loyalty to friends and family. I give it 5 stars. Great fantasy writing. Jr. High and up. No sexual content, mild swearing. I think there might have been a bit more of that in this last book.
Well Ill start off by saying that although I didnt like this book as much as the last two, it was still an enjoyable read. Also a cool end to the series.
Im not sure if the one year gap between books is what did it in for me or not but I didnt find myself caring aboutt he characters. Also Maggie was kinda annoying throughout the whole book.
I kind of felt like I was reading a diary full of unnecessary emotions. Like 60% of the book was just maggie telling us how she felt and reacting to things.
Still a cool series I will more than likely reread one day.
Christopher Shields has continued to showcase his writing talents in this fourth book in his Weald Fae Journals series. The Maebown is loaded with action and suspense as it brings his heroine Maggie to her ultimate destiny. The author has brought his series to a fitting end, or has he???
I really can't force myself to finish this one, and I haaaaate when I quit, especially near the end of the whole series. But I just can't do it, not even curious what will happen- and if you know me, you know that's saying a whole lot.
