I found both book one and two to be fascinating as they offered a different twist to the standard vampire paranormal reading experience. Derek, as the newly awakened prince of The Shade, makes such an intriguing character that it's hard not to like him even when he has done such awful things. Sofia, as Derek's mate, makes for an interesting character with heart, conscientiousness, and smarts. I'm looking forward to see what havoc the hunters, Ben, Lucas, Gregor, and the crazy other covens make of Sofia and Derek's relationship.

Omg the ending. .. Holy crap I can't believe it ended that way. I love this series. I can't Wait to read the rest. This is amazing. I love the love between them and the different conflicts in the story. The plot is amazing and I love the writing. Love this

ADDICTING!!!!!!!!!

Sofia has been kidnapped and been taken to an island of vampires. Prince Derek has been sleeping for four hundred years and is being woken. His brother starts attacking Sofia, which is one of the girls being given to Derek upon his awakening. Lucas is stopped by Vivienne, (Derek's twin sister) and reminds Lucas that Sofia is for Derek. Upon his waking, Derek miraculously doesn't drain all five girls. But, he's instantly drawn to Sofia. The girls are his personal harem, to do with what he pleases. But he only wants to hang out with Sofia. She gets to stay up in his place with him and she ends up teaching him all the new technology. Lucas is still extremely obsessed with her and sneaks in one night attacks her then kills one of the other girls and puts the girl in Sofias bathroom. When Derek finds her, he knows that this was more than likely done by his brother. But Sofia says she doesn't remember, only because Lucas threatened to kill the other girls.

Can't wait to get started on the next book. Great start to an AWESOME series.

Absolutely loved these. So much better than Twilight - more grown up. There are plenty of twists and surprises and you're never quite sure what the heroine will decide to do next as she battles her head and her heart. Which one will win? Will she follow her heart and stay in the shades with the vampire she has come to love despite the danger it entails for her? Will she follow her head and go back to a life that she knows will (for her at least) never be normal again?
Bella Forrest has skilfully created an amazing world with complex multi-dimensional characters. It is so much more interesting as it deepens the characters and the plot to read the points of view of the different characters.
I could hardly put these two books down and have already downloaded Book 3 (Castle of Sand) so I can get straight to it.

I absolutely love this author.
This series, all seasons so far to date, has been awesome.
There were a few books along the way that, being honest, drawled on and on... but, I am happy to say, I stuck to it, and read all the way to the 60s books.
I took a short book burn out break. Basically switched to another author, Nalini Singh, and now that I am waiting on her next book, I intend to start back up, and catch up on my SOV books.

Good way to start with the set

The book was awesome, it keeps your attention. It kinda reminds you of Twilight but better I guess because it's a longer series and the love triangle between Derek,Sophia,and Ben. She will eventually have to chose, get book 1 and see if you will want to put it down or not.... I'm telling you NOT 🤗🤗🤗

A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire #1) - 5 stars
When Sofia is kidnapped she finds herself trapped on an island of vampires with no hope of escape and her only hope of survival is putting her trust in one of her enemies.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. Derek was written in a way that the reader was able to sympathize with him and at the same time fear what he was capable of just like Sofia was. Sofia had a strong personality but came off quite rational in the situation she found herself in.

A Shade of Blood (A Shade of Vampire #2) - 4 stars
I liked this one but not as much as the first book. I found ben's parts to be really boring but as a reader of the story I also understand why they are needed.

This is a very interesting series and just as conflicting emotionally for the reader as it seems to be for Sofia.

This book has a really good twist to the original vampires. Like the fact that they are mostly on a sunless island, where the sun is forbidden to shine. The author gives a written visual image of the vampires past, and how she shade come to be.Loved that there was a powerful and dominant ruler that has very hidden sweet side. The heroine was strong willed and persistent with her agenda.I was entertained from beginning to end. Loved that it came as a box set, stayed up all night WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE!

Not sure what all the fuss is about. I really wanted to like these books but I just got bored. Characters are shallow and books that are based mostly on action with poorly written character dynamics just don't hold my interest.

Good start

I like the story, but it's a little strange to see her trusting the vampire Prince so easily. She should be very leary of him. I'm also curious to see what will happen with her friend Ben. Good read.

Yuck. And he was the strongest, handsomest, smartest vampire tortured by the pressure of being The One. She was an innocent, shy, beautiful-but-didn't-know-it girl. They instantly felt a connection. Weak storytelling. Boring, cliche characters.
